In the course of history, there are people who are special. Chosen by some unknown force, they carve their own path, achieving great things, or bringing the darkest plights upon the land.

Presumably he trusts himself just fine. You don't know what goes on in his head.

Tyrn: "What are you going to do? Just run off into the wastelands?"

Otto: "Anything I must."

>>210204
You don't want to put him off. He seems on edge.

Tyrn: "Are you sure it's a good idea to leave all on your own, if it's so dangerous? You're the least experienced of us all."

Otto: "I am fine. I will not be able to rest until I find out if I am right or not."

This still seems like a horrible idea. Maybe it would be better to find Master and reveal what's going on. Two apprentencies who have just mastered one spell are really not ready to brave the wastes and look for something that spells certain doom.

no, the master is too old and set in his ways. he will say 'blah blah impossible blah blah too young blah blah' and nothing will happen and we will all die.

And he probably has a point. These kids are not ready to tackle big stuff yet. And Otto himself said that the tower should be safe. If they explain it well to the master the message might get sent on through to people who can investigate the threat.

After Haru left the room, I rested. Jathura tried to go after Haru, but I ordered him not to. I fully recover, but gave Haru a few extra days to prepare. Des isn't talking to Haru anymore. He barely says anything or eats with us anymore. When I ask, He always says he's fine.

Des cancelled his classes. One night, I peeked into his room. He had painted Haru onto a punching bag. I'm worried about him.

Haru is quiet when I ask him about his parents. From what you've told me, his parents were really controlling. Right now, I'm practicing magic. We're supposed to leave for Haru's parents in an hour.

You want a reason? Demons are hunted in this realm. If more people know that there's a shapeshifting demon on the prowl, it would make people search for me more closely. They would have a better chance of finding out I'm a demon. Therefore, I would die more easily.

Actually, to tell you the truth, I'm very afraid someone would kill me if I'm found out. I was terrified when Torus figured it out. And another thing. Averna isn't my true name. That's all I'm going to say.

You awaken. It is a slow and arduous awakening like one after too long of a sleep. As you become aware of your surroundings you are welcomed by an unfamiliar sight. The sun beats down upon you on a rocky and barren mountainside. Behind you some five yards away is a cliff and below it a long expanse of rocky wasteland.

Before you is a strange sight. Some few yards in front of you hovers a small metallic orb. It floats in the air without any movement at all. You’ve never seen anything like it before. And though it’s very quiet, you hear a light and feminine voice talking. You think it’s coming from the object. It is too quiet for you to make out what the voice is saying but you detect a hint of anxiety in its tone.

You struggle to make some sense of the situation but find it an arduous task. You can’t remember what you were doing before this. You feel it right at the tip of your tongue, like the answer is right there and if you just FOCUSED you might be able to grasp it. What’s more, there’s a strange sensation at the base of your neck. It’s not painful but it’s certainly peculiar. Perhaps an EXAMINATION is in order?

Please suggest an action.

“I’m… Yeah, I think I’m alright.” Hell no I’m not, you think. “This just might take a little getting used to.” There is nothing that is okay about this. You can hardly believe that she’s just talking about this like it’s just some ordinary occasion. But what the hell do you do about it? You have no idea where you are and just the slightest idea of what’s going on around you. But you’re not going to panic. You’re going to figure out what’s going on, get a game plan set, and then go from there. No sense panicking just yet.

You catch something, a memory. It’s a painful one. Adam. Yeah, you remember who Adam is. It’s funny, in a macabre way, but Adam’s probably not even his name. But there’s no way you could forget that kid. His blood soaked image haunts you as you recall the time and you hear a voice though you never heard him speak. “Murderer.” Yeah, that’s right. You killed that little boy. And you never forgave yourself for it. You didn’t even know his name and you killed him. Like hell you could just let yourself forget that. “Going to go and kill more people, murderer?” His voice haunts you but you know it’s nothing more than your guilty conscience. You killed him back-

“Mr. Thomas?” Elizabeth inquires again. “Are you quite certain you’re all right? You took the adaptation process rather well. I’ve seen others react quite poorly to it in the past but you seem to be in good physical condition. But are you alright.” She sounds genuinely concerned. You almost wish she were more callous. It’d be easier to think of her as an enemy.

“Yeah, I’ll be alright,” you say again. You breath deep. Focus. Survival first. “I’m gonna try and move now.” You hold back a warning for her to hold on as soon as you remember that she has no arms. That and that thing isn’t really her anyway. You tense your leg up and you step forward. You’re rewarded with the feelin

“I’ll do what I can,” you tell her, a weak attempt to come back at her dark humor. “I think getting properly armed will give us a good start on that. After that, I’d like to get a look at the terrain and see if I can’t find a suitable area for the MOCS to fight in.”

“Excellent, Mr. Thomas. Then we’ll want to proceed to Headquarters. You see the walkway up the mountain there?”

You nod and smile as the MOCS does so in turn. Funny, there’s something charming about the machine. “Yeah, I see it.” Looks like you’ll be able to access it you just make your way up the ramps leading up the Devil’s Teeth. They’re big enough to easily accommodate the MOCS too. “Let’s keep going then. Popularity, success, I’m guessing this has to do with the show, right?”

“That’s right sir!” Elizabeth cheerily declares. “I’d say that the two go hand in hand, really. Doing well in the world of Showtime is much more than just surviving battles. After each challenge you’ll receive a certain amount of money as a prize. At this stage, I’d expect a 1,000 credit reward. That’s what an acceptable contestant would make at this stage. But a great contestant would procure five times that with ease!”

“Y’see if the footage of a challenge is particularly enthralling or fantastic there’s a chance that it could be aired on television. In such an instance, you’d be paid a bonus dividend as incentive to continue to perform at that level. What’s more, once Platinum Star or any of the other big name companies get their eye on you you’re certain to get all sorts of special offers and invitations to VIP events! All that leads to more fame, which leads to more money, which leads to more power and success!”

The MOCS continues to make steady headway up the mountainside. You’re paying attention to Elizabeth but you keep questioning whether or not you want to push the MOCS. Things

The sample size for your hypothesis is too small to draw any conclusions besides "super weapon brinkmanship requires lots of super weapons."

Even from a game theory point of view, brinkmanship only works if all players are actually rational. And we know leaders of nations are not always rational. It's a crazy idea to be an advocate of.
>>
No. 209180 ID: 69f105
>>209177
Leadership of a nation usually selects for rationality. Not always, as Zein demonstrates for us, and I'm leaving the decision as to whether or not to pursue it, as well as the information on the risks and benefits, to Kanes and the girls. To sum up briefly again in case Kanes got confused by the discussion: Probably usher in a new era of peace for mankind. If the wrong person gains leadership, guarantee an end to all war because nobody will be left to wage it. It puts all our eggs into one extremely tough, but not indestructible, basket.
>>
No. 209243 ID: 732129

It puts all your eggs, and all your opponent's eggs, and all the eggs of every generation that follows, in the same basket made of woven toilet paper. The trouble is that a cold war takes the status quo away from being a matter of if a super weapon capable country gets a crazy leader, and turns the status quo into a situation of waiting for when a country involved gets a leader crazy enough to let the midnight clock chime.

The only way to avoid an eventuality like that is to disarm the cold war as soon as possible. The two sides involved in the Sol III cold war did so by engaging in economic warfare, causing enough lasting damage to one economy to collapse the government. The other side did systemic damage to its internal economy, and the fallout from the economic war left the entire world economy in a much more fragile state than it needed to be in.

These are factors I had sorely missed. Would they still have occurred if there had not been smaller non-nuclear nations to bully, however?

Disregard this question, I've had the time to do the appropriate research and found that the economic erosion still would have taken place in a relatively simple political system like the one we're observing here. They'll discover nukes on their own anyways, but Kanes? Disregard my previous recommendations about creating a "cold war" scenario, as this other spirit is a bit more observant than I am. I made similar recommendations while my voice sounded different; it's too difficult to explain why, but at some point my voice would have sounded like "69f105" for part of the conversation, where it now sounds like "db60d0". If that made any sense to you.

Thistle Glen, your home town, and the only place you’ve ever known. It seemed a well off enough village, at least until recently. The woods were never safe. For the woodsmen who worked there, their axes were just as much for safety as for chopping down trees. The people of Thistle Glen are superstitious of the woods, and not for good reason. It wasn’t that rare that once or twice a year some poor fool would wander into the woods an never come back. Some say that a great wolf prowls the forest, keeping in free of human “taint”. Others believe the trees themselves are alive, and revenge themselves upon the woodsmen and their kin who fell the mighty oaks. What ever the reason, the woods have never been safe, and it just became a lot more dangerous.

A week ago several rat-men, as they are called by humans, came to village telling of ruins in the forest where an old witch lived in a tower, hording gold to sate her greed. She had long ago died, but her wealth remained. They promised that any who would accompany them to acquire this gold would receive a fair share enough that wouldn’t have to work a day in their life afterwards. Several men were enticed by such a promise, and after gathering their weapons and gear, set out to in the forest to gain new wealth. They have not been seen since.

Last night, you made a bold proclamation to Merta, the local tavern wench. Her father had been part of that excursion, and you promised you would go to the woods, and find the men, and return them safely. Maybe it was the alcohol, maybe it was the way Merta filled out her clothing just right that night., but you declared on your honor in front of the whole bar (Which was most of the town,) that you would get them back. Today, in order to save face an hopefully Merta’s love. You are currently in your house. There is a cloak on your chair, your hat on the table, and clothing in the dresser.

Let me clear this up for you so you stop looking bad to him. This is Lichblilm before he went back in time to stop his tribe from being killed by a monster and even before he turned into a lich. If you want, ask me for specific details in spoilers.
>>206178
It sounds like you really are stupid. They have a church in the town of... Magun's castle. Not everyone goes there at once. May Shaw hasn't threatened to make me her slave at all. I still hate her.

I think I might be able to escape this town. It's night, so almost everyone is asleep. The only people I have to look out for is the night watch. I think it has 40 or so people. Can you help me?
>>
No. 206426 ID: c4c313
Did I ever imply I didn't know this was Lichblim?

>>206381

No not you. Everyone else. What spells can you cast? How big are your mana reserves? Anything for concealment, darkness, blindness or invisibility? The night watch should have shifts to check on each other. You can sneak past them when they meet together for the changing of the guard. You can also disable one of the watch and escape if you do it right after they meet so nobody realizes a watchman is missing until you're gone.
>>
No. 206494 ID: 34470e
>>206426
No one else thinks that. They say she's just annoying and stares at people until she gets what she wants. I have enough mana to cast Torment twice before I run out. Mary Shaw never taught me any debuffs or anything like that. Only attacking, which is stupid. I probably won't be able to do it good at all.

I haven't memorized the routes they take on the night watch. Mary Shaw doesn't let me out of her tower after dinner. I quietly get out of bed and start heading toward the door to the stairs.
>>
No. 206502 ID: c4c313
>>206494

When you get outside stay away from the roads. Avoid making noise at all costs, but you can go across people's property if it won't make noise. Shadows are your friend.

We'll have to teach you something worthwhile sometime if Mary Shaw isn't going to. If you run into any people, use Freeze immediately. Mary can dispel it later but by that time you'll be long gone. That way nobody can sound the alarm (hopefully).

How does Mary Shaw normally keep you from leaving the tower now? If she doesn't actually stop you, you might want to spend a few days to learn the watch's patterns. If not though, nobody's going to make you out in the cover of darkness until they get close enough for you to Freeze them.
>>
No. 208581 ID: 34470e

Okay, I got it. And Mary Shaw has someone guard door at night. I've never tried to escape here more than twice. Once the door guard caught me. The other time, I got to the front gate, but there were 2 people standing near there, so I couldn't escape. I don't know what to do with them.

I slowly make my way down the stairs, making sure I'm not making any noise. When I make it down the stairs, I quietly creep to the door. Since there's a person at the other side of this door, how should I go about doing this? If I fail at this, I'm going to have to try tomorrow. I don't want to wait another day doing stupid sfuff.

Since the RED ARMY usually takes forever to make a move, we're going to cheat and go first :P

So where should we move?

... urgh. What the hell happened?
>01010111 01100101 01101100 01100011 01101111 01101101 01100101 00101110
You have a vague memory of a falling sensation... nothing before that.
>01010100 01101111 00100000 01111001 01101111 01110101 01110010 00101110
You're in a forest... lush, and green, and wet, like the forests in fantasy novels. "How do I know that?", you wonder. An oddly-coloured mist wends it's way through the threes and around you; it's cold and moist, but not threatening.
>01000011 01101000 01100001 01101111 01110100 01101001 01100011 00101110
You look down at yourself, and discover that you are female, wearing a bright red changshan with golden embroidery in a pattern you can't quite make out, over equally bright silk pants. With this you are wearing a pair of soft, slip-on shoes with open backs - your mind makes you think "Like Yan-Wang in Souten no Ken", which is odd, because you have no idea what any of that actually means.
A quick glance back shows you that you have long, fiery red hair that travels untamed to your hips, like a river of magma.
>01000100 01100101 01110011 01110100 01101001 01101110 01111001 00101110

The numbers suddenly unfold into your ears and you wince, then look up - there's a boy standing there, around your age, over by a large oak tree, glaring at you.
He wears an open olive-drab cargo vest with silver zips, equally plain cargo pants, black sneakers and socks, and a grey beanie on his head. His face is almost... bestial; you get the impression of "Hunter" from him. For his part, he growls, raising fists tied in bloodstained white handwraps.
"Just what we need, another one? State your business, Entity."

What do you do?

"Nope."
Justimon is short with you, almost business-like. At least he gave you a straight answer.

Now what?

Excuse me, coming through with maybe an okay-ish story of a patient in a mental health ward that learns a dark secret and has to do something about it.

[I'm a newfag here and by no means good at drawing, so don't eat me]

in that case, paperclip, rubber band, and bandage.

Unless bandaids have magical healing properties, take the paperclips, chewing gum and floss. Chewing gum can make a quick cement stronger than a bandaid's adhesive, floss can be used as twine, and paperclips as hinges or pokey things.

Anyway, now check under the bed! There might be monsters after all.

Great job! It counts as 5 because there are most 5's rolled. I was dissapointed myself to the roll I did but you guys created a sufficient glitch for a generous continuum for the quest. I'm off town so the next update will be a several days later. My cousin is playing starcraft 2 next to me so I'll take some inspiration there. And oh! The beta is on for a few days still before the release date. Or maybe even after! Haa. Dunno. Cheers!

You pick it up and light it with the match, then toss the match.

You should probably get going.
