Eh what the fuck. Lets go with the Gnoll.

Then, hmmm, one troll follower (stupid smashy one), one draconian follower (healy augmenty and slightly smashy magic one) and one Dark Elf follower (that flips out of the shadows and kills things all ninja like). Which adds up to 9 points for the followes and 1 point for the gnoll so 10 points. Then lets add in one soldier Klackon and one lizardman Shaman.

There, that should make for an interesting party. Very diverse and stuff. Lets hope they don't all kill each other immediatly.

Mana Capacity = 4
each hell hound cost 1 permanent mana

scouts have returned, the mountanious area has a giant spider nest... we lost 3 gnolls scouting there... also, these gnolls dont have jobs, they just idle and eat small rats or animals... no farmers, no builders, no anything, i could order some to start those jobs, the more doing something the more sucessful a job can be...

i can also research new spells, but during the research time i cannot be bothered watching over the gnolls...

Would nature magic allow geomancy? With that we could irrigate the land and maybe collapse the spiders' caves. But right now we should just ignore/ avoid the spiders and focus on improving our home. We should evaluate our followers to see if they have any potential for magic and organize our followers into workers, hunters/soldiers, shamans?, and hunters/scouts.

Of your 97 Gnolls, set 10 to secure, patrol and hunt around the mountains. Take 7 to go along with the remaining hell hounds and yourself to destroy that nest. If they are in one area use your fellow gnolls toll fill the cave with burnable vegetation, then burn the lot of them. If there are many exists for the spiders, collapse all but one with earth to mud first.

20 gnolls will explore and secure territory in the plains. 30 should be organized to begin constructing simple shelters for all the gnolls, and the remaining 30 should begin to develop farmland in the newly secured plains areas. Herding can come later.

I dont really know what the next spell will be, they appear as criptic letters and symbols on the magic book...

these gnolls are pretty dumb, and none of them has any magic power at all, good thing too because i dont want anyone trying to steal my place...

i sent some scouts while researching the next chaos spell in the book, it took them a long while to be back, at least i learned the firewall overland enchantment...

Certainly burninating all of the giant spiders with your amazing powers is on the 'to do' list; however, that does not mean it must be done now. Its much more appropriate to wait till conditions are right, and your spells cause much more pain.

Besides, it'll help keep anyone who thinks they can rise up against you in line when your tale include Spider Queen Slayer as a title.

Until then, have the Gnolls prepare for movement to a more habitable area. Towards the river seems fine.

Also, what does disrupt do?

ordered all gnolls to get some militia training, and a 10 to train using simple spears...

according to the book, those things are phantom warriors, a sorcery creature, they keep multiplying in the area until there are 20...

the disrupt spell has a chance to bring down a construction.

i casted a firebolt on the phantom warriors, took down 5, but the next day they where already replaced...

also ordered one of the female gnolls to take one for the tribe,..., apparently we are not compatible with the hellhounds, and several burns where the only result of the experiment...

first... i dont think i am very good at diplomacy... second, i dont think they understand us at all, while we where at distance they ignored us, but when we got closer to the river, they inmediatelly attacked us, i tryed a firebolt, but couldnt take out enough, my gnolls where slaughtered, but at least i was able to escape...

i affect the weapons made in the city, while im in there, the weapons are a little magical, but not chaotic...

the firewall spell would defend a city, and allow passage for my gnolls, but maintaining it drains a permanent 3 mana.

hear me wise voices... i dont wanna get pregnant and we are not gonna eat ourselves >_<

i sent some gnolls to make a camp on the north shore, the builders, 10 gnolls, are reinforcing the wall, they also wanna build a structure where they could make plans out of wood... which is kinda odd, since we have lived in caves all our lives...

the warp wood spell, according to the magic book, is primarely used to waste arrows and bolts made of wood...

For now lets send our scouts further south to see what they find in that direction.

If he's amenable to the treaties we desire and the price he requires is amenable to the Gnoll nation, then sex is merely part of your hospitality. Let's not anger these guys, he seems to be speaking for a higher group that we may not want to piss off yet. Back to the base we should concentrate on using stone, mud and clay as alternatives to wood as a building material. If not already implemented we should use the river to irrigate the crops near the outpost.

You are a symbol of knowledge and power.
The tribe needs a symbol of heroism and courage. I think you should look among the tribe for anyone who is hero material. Then as a test suggest they go and slay those spiders. Make sure to be subtle about it a hero must act on there own and watch the progress and if they end up dieing...well worth a shot.

ok, updates, the covered people taught us how to work stone, we had to use part of the wall to set up the quary, 'bittergrass' the newly named gnoll farmer i sent to the elf people returned and improved our farming systems... she is bitching a lot about how much trees we cut... so i prefer to keep her busy on the fields north of town...

who would have guessed, that other farmer is starting to understand magic... maybe i should name her too...

the training area is complete, and we have a regular speargnolls army, composed of 20 gnolls and the captain... maybe we have enough strenght now...

my assistant has established regular trading routes with the covered people, and the elf people seems interested in trading too...

You spider people have been forced to live in caves less the outside world strike out against you for things like 'prejudice' and 'spiders are icky'. At the same time, we gnolls have been forced to construct defense walls around our settlement, for the outside world to us has been nothing but aggressive. It's always 'stop disrespecting the nature gods and cutting down trees just because you have to survive' and 'stupid primitives' and 'you have bits of animal dung in your fur'. Well the answer to that is simple we need mounts and we desire to expand our territory.
Now what would spider mounts give us? A significant advantage in combat as we now have a beast that can not only carry us in and out of combat fairly quickly, but can be ferocious in combat as well (and lets be honest gnolls can't ride horses as its like riding a juicy steak into combat.)
What to the spiders get from this exactly?
They will become a beast of burden, which is not a bad thing. The most successful organisms are often those domesticated by a more formidable species and often tend to grow in population exponentially. They also get pretty much a free ride. They get to rely on our protection and hell we could even make them offerings of some of our spoils.

So much for elves loving nature. I guess it means they like nature when it has between 2 to 4 legs, big eyes, and is generally better used as live stalk or a mount.
Offer an alliance both of you would mount an offensive against the elves in turn they could have the forest, you could use the lumber for the trees in moderation of coarse.
While the elf population will be split between the two, with the spiders using half the population for stalk animals what have you and with you making them slaves or foot stools imagine the satisfaction of having a stuck up elf lick your paw and call you master.

Such a war would take a large amount of resources and men though. We would need time to build up forces, as we are sure you would to, especially after our little misinformed skirmish here. How about a temporary alliance of mutual assistance for the issue of preparation and war against the elves, and if all goes well, we can renegotiate a more long term concrete alliance.

Elves are over confident, that is there weakness, I can think of a strategy to defeat them right now.
Step 1: have spiders lay near invisible web on ground.
Step 2: Get some form of lobbing weaponry and shoot at them from a distance.
Step 3: In order to get into range to fire they must travel through web,
Step 4: They get stuck.
Step 5: Enemies mobility removed, can pick them off one by one or in mass or force them to surrender and enjoy elf slaves.

my suggested course of action is: offer her trade lines, propose a rotating change of underlings to show trust and keep a eye on each other, propose to return the eggs you tooked, offer joined trainning sessions for all our units. possibly shared territories when we start to become sucessful, but thats for too long from now.

the pact only becomes relevant to our battle with the elves when, and if, we start to become sucessful. as far as i know, the elves only need one assassin to kill two problems. we cannot have that.

Make sure to be nice and sociable with these new neighbors. Spider dens under your towns eventually? General population friendly terms? I bet spiders on construction teams would really help productivity, and there's probably benefits Gnolls could provide to spiders as well. Perhaps artisan work for them.

But then, I'm thinking long long term, here, when I should be thinking short term. Once you get home, pick someone to go. Probably someone that doesn't look like they'd make a good meal, but with a decent skillset. Masonry, perhaps? Or a cook? Might be useful in a cave. Useful to their new hosts. ...unless they'd be kept in a gilded cage or something. Don't really know their plans.

...unless you have personal servants that aren't common villagers and just attend to your needs. But you strike me as a self-motivated woman that wouldn't indulge in such frivolities.

Yes this. Though we know something about the edge of elf territory. 3;-2 may be just water, and will require a boat to look at in any event. 2;-3 is expected not to be elf territory, and probably deserves checking out too.

send scouts to the cave at 1;2, we might find something neat in there(like metals or something), and block of the entrance to the bat cave(fighting fair is for the weak, lets just starve them).
Also, make some stone tips for spears and some shields from the spider carapace(probably harder and lighter then wood, and I doubt we have enough leather).
Oh and how is the trading outpost coming along?
Also, if we end up getting carapace armor, use red for the soldiers and fashion something out of the green and purple for the captain.

>Have your newfound pact representative act as a bodyguard, I suspect no one will bug your sleep then.

Nice one.

But seriously, ask if the spiders have met with the doombats, which should probably be our next conquest.

My lady, you're starting to get into larger scale here and while the elves would be a great target, they are clearly in possession of a very advantageous area that would make an assault difficult. Especially worrying is that tower and the nodes.

Indeed, I recommend establishing links with more groups and either conquering or allying them. Try and open up some dialog with the desert people, suggest a formal alliance, they were nice enough last time and we have been trading with them regularly. You can ask the spiders if they’d like to come along too.

You know what might be a question to ask Sis though; just what are the spiders eating? They have to have a food source. Ask this on the way to the desert people if any spiders come along for the trip. They’d be more likely to answer if you have clearly eagerly jumped into the allied nature of your pact by inviting them for a road-trip.

Maybe even say hello to your lovely neighbors, the creepy guys in the broken buildings. Just don’t go inside, yell at them from afar with something sweet and innocent like “Hey guys, I know you said you didn’t want us in your place and all so we’re staying out, but as your neighbors, we care about yall. So, anything we can get you guys on our way back from our trip? Our treat!”

If you can make the stereotype that gnolls are genuinely friendly and lovable, your scouts, and yourself, are much less likely to get attacked on sight. You might even be welcomed with open arms if the stories of your splendid kindness get spread around. CONQUER THE WORLD WITH KINDNESS, LADY FIRECLAW! NO ONE WILL SUSPECT THE GNOLLS OF ANYTHING! we will not cast the spell yet, they will know of it. i wish we could do some moralfaggotry to gain our right to be but im pretty sure THEY WANT TO KILL YOU! -_-

we cant really fight head on the elves, unless we somehow already have a readyed army. they have not only the golens but also their usual army. if we gather more forces they will preemptively attack, if we move for ambush or early retreat, they will reposition their army. our chance is that the humans are already poised for a offense, waiting for a distraction.

by the end of the second day id like to make a diversion tactic. send a little one with food for thought with a message, hopefully he will arrive missing hours for the deadline to end. on it, we will request a few useless information to give them the idea we kinda want to cooperate but dont know how, and their threats are only serving to make us nomads.

ask them if:
-we can take sis away to another land
-why she is hated/hunted, as in, crimes, property damage, etc
-what do we do with the shiny rocks
-they are willing to trade anything with us? doesnt need to be wood
-how much will they let us grow? can we mine for coal? can we make our own farm? our own forest?
-what the humans did to get all killed?

and i guess we could entertain them if they appear in person again. ask them about their history and listen, we need to know how much totalitarian they are.

in any way, train some bowmen. if shit hits the fan, we may need to torch the forest to force a retreat in their army.

tell to the new green friend that he does not have a cute butt and that you are not into tail, but would like a lesson in magic if possible. offer him whatever else he requests for the lesson with the exception of your "bounty" or possibly any "treasure chest" that you may have "exposed".

We might have to go full-out warmonger just to survive and push people back enough for us to make a nice safe haven. If we attack the elves first, we might at least be able to get the humans off our back for a little while. Possibly get them at least neutral to us.

spiders: surprisingly was the most reasonable, then again we were probably close to wiping them out. so we held all the chips on that table and then gave some of our chips to them rather then take everything from them, which they are acting grateful.

nomads: will only help if they get all our gold and a decent amount of our food(forever).

and that released merc only interest is to bed with you... he is first and foremost a perv. you might be able to gain a powerful ally through leading him on. he should be given a bed of his own, paid for his services, and given food as part of your force. he may also be graced in your presence whenever you are with your personal guards, at least until you know he can be trusted *wink*. Considering he is well traveled he maybe useful for finding a good new area to settle.

seriously your in the middle of a *beep*fest, either find yourself an area easily defendable (mountain fortress), or move your forces to somewhere less detrimental.

And break that damn awareness spell before it kills you or the rest of the clan, its clear that its a double-edge sword. err sharpen rock on all edges.

I should get everyone together for a planning.... thing... reunion...

but tomorrow... I'm too tired today, I told curiosity to go with the green guy, but the captain and the guards objected to that, even one of the other females that where in the room complained, and some even volunteered, can you believe it?

sigh, I was too tired to discuss, so I just sent one of them, they all like curiosity... just because she is big and heals them,...

I can heal too, I TAUGHT HER THAT... wait, why I'm rambling about this, it doesn't matter.

tomorrow, big day, we should plan and get out of this mess... somehow... ill ask sis what she knows... she is holding most of the awareness spell together... she said it would take time to get used to it...

the biggest fucking problem is that the elves are the major magical power house right now. They have no less than three nodes. On the other hand, the humans have some kind of whacky bullshit going for them to, with their hivemind. They probably the most scientifically advanced as well, with their advanced meatllurgy and fullplate.

*cough*

if noone has a opening argument, id like to recap.

cutepawn, i mean, fireclawn tooken control of her little tribe with no much effort, and proceeded in the next few days to both explore and, uh, extraviate a lot of areas around the villa. after some expansions, we had a really acidic, i mean, rushed encounter with the elves, wich prompted that they did not had sticks up their butts, but in fact, whole trees.

after a incursion in the cave, cutepawn, i mean, fireclaw was suggested to conquer it due to the possibility of mining and a few other business involving mushrooms and baby making in dark rooms. we, however, found sis the dryad queen, after suffering minor loss.

a parlay was made and someone forgot to tell us that there was a elven child filled with vermin, waiting for that to take a explosive diahrea to the fan. now the elves wanna put sharp sticks in our butts, the humans want to pretend we are target practice and we are very underpowered.

fortunadely, the nomads mindraped cutepawn, i mean, contacted fireclaw with a offer that we may just not refuse. they want lots of food and other stuff for a year to reallocate us to a better area.

we cannot grow enought to even properly parlay with the elves, sadly the most rational of the warring side. ideally, we should take alliance with any large nation that could teach fireclaw how to rule her people without getting zerg rushed before being able to rush by herself.

since thats not a option, if sis agree, we should move with her.

Alright ladies and gentlemen. The elves have responded to our spider/gnoll alliance far more rapidly than had been hoped. They have a large elemental hanging just on the edge of their forest, within striking distance of this capital, and incidently, also your cave, Sis. They are demanding that we break the alliance by the day after tomorrow or they will level the city. The humans have demanded that Fireclaw break her "alliance" with the elves, or THEY will destroy us. Frankly, not much loss in complying there, except that the elves will have no reason not to crush us. So, short of throwing ALL of Lady Fireclaw's alliances out the window, SOMEONE is going to want to kill us.

Our third neighbor has offered us some advice to relocate, and some non-specified sort of help in exchange for free access to our only trade good for a year, and all of those shiny rocks called 'gold' we have, which I think is none. They seem the most reasonable and accomodating of the three, but I fear accepting their offer would bankrupt us.

The final result of whatever we do must be the eventual destruction of the elves, and laying claim to their Nature, Sorcery, and especially Chaos fonts should be attempted.

Lets start by going over what we have to work with. Dragon guy, we need to know what you can do in the way of magic and fighting. Sis, we need to know what you can cast, as well as how many spiders you will have ready two days from now. Then we can think about if we are going to fight, try something sneaky, or just *gulp* run.

Is it possible for us to ask the humans for defense against the elves?

I'm of the opinion that they should be the first to go when the Gnoll/Spider alliance gets strong enough. Yes, they may have done the small service of hastening our learning of farming techniques, but they deny wood for expansion of the village, oppose our alliance with Sis, and are about to try and destroy us. They may claim to be on the side of nature, but are we not life as well? Is not nature meant to provide for the needs of all? We lack the power currently to show the elves the error of their ways. Ergo, we have four options.

One: We find a new home for both the spiders and the gnolls. This would mean forfeiting all progress we have made so far, and would send a message that the gnolls can be pushed around, wouldn't it? We would survive, but we don't know what may be out there. These may just be the lesser jerks out there. Travelling to Myrror may buy some time, but there are most likely dangers there as well.

Two: We could ask the humans for assistance against the elves. Yes, they're creepy, blunt, and prone to interrupting. However, they hold no love for the elves. If we stand with them to fight the elves, they may lose interest in us for a while once the danger has passed. Or, they may turn their aim on us next. This plan may be dangerous.

Three: We ask the Nomads for assistance. Their prices are steep. All our gold, and food for a year, one let slip. However, depending on the method used, we might not have to worry about the humans or the elves for a while. They might also just solve this one problem and leave us to die for the inevitable retaliation.

Four: We could build up our forces, arm everyone, hunker down, and prepare to defend our homeland against the coming attack. It would be hard. It would be bloody. However, we would still have our pride. If we succeed, they may be more hesitant to attack in the future. If we fail, we might be able to retreat and survive... or they might decide to genocide us and show how shallow their ideals really are.

Each path has its good points and its bad points. Does anybody have any input on the situation?

On a less serious note... just how fluffy and adorable are bouncing baby gnollpups? Do they bite ankles, resulting in a need to show them who's boss?

Here is my suggestion.

The caves in which the spiders reside: how well dug are they? I would rather have to fight in the mountains the on a plain field, especially against foes with greater magic and martial forces. More importantly, we can help the spiders dig. Out on the planes, we will die if we try to face the elves or human. But in the mountains, where we will have winding tunnels to hide and ambush prey in, we may have a chance. We have at least three mages of negligible power- Sis, Fireclaw, and our fair dragon friend here. Together, with our combined forces, we may be able to fortify the mountains and make a hold there. The Earth Titans will still be a problem. But who knows- maybe combined we will be able to fight them back with limited casualties.

As such, I vote we mine into the mountain with the spiders, fortifying it as best we can. Perhaps we can... set up some farms somewhere close, far enough to get good crops but close enough so if we are attacked the farmers can flee to the fortifications...

No. 264732 ID: 1bbfe6

if sis cant leave then we are in big trouble.

if we obey to the elves we break alliance with sis, further contact can be used to show the humans we are allied with the elves. with luck, we can actualy argument that it was our last talk, and that we are no longer anything noteworthy. this is likely to fail, because the humans are retarded and on magical steroids. meanwhile, the elves will argument that the cave is now a active issue since their former decision to ignore it failed and may take violent actions against sis directly.

we can, indeed, hole up on the caves. simply dig new rooms and transfer what we can to it. when the humans and elves come by we play dead or the likes of it. fire and bones would really help by then. collapsing the cave entrance after the chamber filled with dead spiders can give the elves the impression we had a last stand and eliminated each other. the humans shouldnt give a damm, since it will look like either a elf invasion, occupation or stationary army.

we then proceed to further investigate the caves, hoping to go undetected. however the awareness spell would detect us thus possibly foiling our plans, gnolls werent made to live in cavesand when stress kicks in we will have gnoll versions of enraged dorfs, we dont know how to work on stone alone let alone the farmers will relearn their trade and lastly, this put us directly against 2 really big nations. we would need some deep, and i mean deeeeeeeeep spy network just to know if we can go outside.

I recommend that if we cannot figure out anyway to avoid hostilities from one side, we attempt to align with the Human Collective. aww fuck, both sides have a lot of magic. if they wanted to they could crush us easy. evac may be the best bet. send a scout north to confirm if that is indeed a portal tower and if it's all clear to check it out. but observe it from a distance and maybe throw rocks towards it to see if it reacts or anyting comes out to make sure it's clear then enter and see what is on the other side. if it has ocean to south-east then we wont need to worry about the elves attacking us by water for a while and if we can close the portal down after we go through it then that would be even better.

Thaaank you Sis! :3 What is that over at +3,+2? (I honestly can't tell from the super zoomed out view if that is a giant tree stump like a ruined elf city, or a hole in the ground)

It might be time to see if those fishergnolls can figure out how to make wood floaty things without drowning themselves. [we are voices in an orb and kinda busy right now]

But my suggestion would be to strike a deal with the humans, and work out a joint plan against a mutual enemy. The elves are willing to commit a significant chunk of their military strength to hitting us. If the humans attack while the tree huggers are spread out, they have a chance to strike a decisive blow AND distract the elves enough to keep us alive. It is dangerous, but no more so than offering to pay the nomad's a price we cannot afford, for their non-specific help, no matter how friendly they may seem compared to the others.

Given that there's a possible Island we can see peering over the sea, perhaps it'd be worth trying to build a boat to explore the sea in an 'exodus' plan? Yes, it'd be better to stay in our home and if we can we shall; but with two and possibly more powers breathing down our necks, being able to isn't a certainty. I'd rather set up on a peaceful island and let the Elves and Humans fight over our former lands then have the Gnoll tribe all die.
>>
No. 264937 ID: 6360b2

we could just "expand" to the island. so who got the best doggy paddle?

we don't necessarily need a boat, just something that can hold whatever weight necessary to hold things not sea worthy above water.

suggested materials that we know how to use. light, long, wood that floats. and rope or twine, or anything that can hold that wood together. a leaf and stone that weigh the same would have tremendously different effects on water. try to mimic the leaf as much as possible, get as much "surface" as you can while making it still sturdy enough to float. there maybe some lost at sea though, but its better to try something and learn from there mistakes then to all die from something else right?
------------------------------------------------
honestly making a boat is impractical, we have a very limited amount of time and to build enough to move our entire population may take sometime, and who is saying there isn't some force already there.

if anything build 2 rafts for a 4 man crew, 1 of which should be some sort of diplomat or decent talker and the rest dedicated scouts/explorers which are ready for a fight. and have some way that they can easily report back, maybe a focus for you like a bowl or something, that once they put water or some other reflective substance in it you can then see/hear them.
------------------------------------------------
as for the node, you should try to make an object that glows brighter depending on how strong the magic is being used.

well id like to say this:

Harden. The. Fuck. Up.

we choosed the gnolls. we knew what we were into. seriously, do they look like cutebolds or maybe dorfs? i mean, we lost so many of them just exploring the surroundings.

we are not leaving. oh no, we dont want JUST to get a nice place were we can be ignored. we dont want to plainly get lucky with RNG and hope that this time xom favors us yet again. we most surely dont want to grow bored trading with kobolds, gnolls and the ocasional brave dorf. i mean, jesus, do they even have what to trade? and the dorf would buy the village with 2 rings and a bucket of dyed socks.

we do have few options. but just because we cant say "DEFORESTATE EVERYTHING!". so be a bit more realistic and try to come up with non game breaking solutions.

how about the creation of yet another magical circle in the mountainhome? this could be used to further trick our enemies that we died. if we cant make a backup circle we are doomed anyway. living in a hidehole can still bring attention to sis, and if we lack materials to build a army, we are forked. not that much changed, but if you want the elf/human dead, play dead would be a good start.

we can "beg" to the humans for help. they look so absorbed in their "PURGE THE UNCLEAN!" that we can set up a small war, possibly to buy time, or take some resources from the elves uselves. considering the setting, this is somewhat likely to work. sadly this may fare bad for sis and us, we may get a army of them marching trhu our village. and we would be next. maybe. definitively.

sis will have to accept defeat and either come with us or stay behind. this is likely 100% to work, even more so if you consider sis as a NPC. we can make other alliances, she can make other enemies, we cant face these elves.

The situation is indeed dire. At the current stage, we are 'effed. Or rather, Fireclaw is, but since she's pretty much the only Gnoll around here with enough brains to even possibly run this show, it's still pretty boned. And, we've got a couple people poised to kick our shit in. Like >>264998 proposed, we need to see about developing an additional circle, so we can have some where maybe a little tougher to retreat to. Obviously, we don't want to wholly abandon the settlement.

Now, I know our glorious caste system has given our Gnolls much more focus than before, but considering we're very possibly going to be fighting to the last dog-man soon, we need to make sure everyone at least knows which end of a pointy stick to poke with.

Also, we need better stuff. I understand the tribe hasn't exactly been very crafty before now, but you're going to need some development. Basic ranged weapons are a necessity. Slings, bows, maybe some lighter spears for throwing. Tip your heavier spears in sharp stone tips. Shields if we can manage them, too. Wood or tanned hide. Hardening some hides for armor for our warriors is also good. Did we take any giant spider carapace to make into armor? That would also be good. As the dragonman if he happens to know anything that might help equip your people better, but be wary of what price he may enact for this information. Very much the mercenary type that one.

If it comes down to it, we're gonna need some war tactics. And since you guys barely have a sense of an economy at this stage, its unlikely to involve our superior industry. And with our low ratio of casters, I'm thinking were going to have to go with waves upon waves of speargnolls. To that end, err, what exactly is the tribe's 'breeding situation'. Actually, how fast to Gnolls mature anyway? Depending on how that goes, they might not play enough into our plans. Even now, they're a little in the long game.

How much silk can Sis's progeny produce? A few layers of silk, backed with leather (or wood lamellar) over a layer of thick padding is an astonishing effective form of armour, weight-for-weight.
>>
No. 265081 ID: f37758

well we could use the silk to make some bow and arrow. altho a crossbow is more favored.

if we can use fire arrows on several parts of the forest, we can prevent most of the elves from reaching us. this would leave with the golens only in the war.

id still like to hole up before anything else. sis can make extra chambers for everything we need? later on we will worry with a network of tunnels to get in the forest.

Setting the forest on fire only works if its real dry. Or if we douse it in oil first, and I don't think we have any flammable oil technology. Which would be good to have, because then we can have torches and lanterns.

Divide our forces. Send half to the humans, half to face the elves... and then have both forces retreat toward each other in false-flight, hopefully luring both enemies after us.

And then pursuing Humans blunder into pursuing elves. We let them fight it out, and Gnolls+Spiders jump the winner.

This is a good tactic, if we can pull it off. We'd need some fast and stealthy (For escaping once we draw the two groups together) scouts or warriors to get right, and a good spot on the map for them to meet.

Though didn't the humans just shoot at the last scouting party that pulled to close to human territory?

3 gnolls upgraded to science-gnolls

(3, 2) ruined elf city

2 gnolls sent to far coast

8 scouts deployed to the tunnels

all idling gnolls sent to finish the wall.

The elven woods has one weakness. It's outer force is solid earth but for a weak city, which is little more than a tree. If the tree is felled, the elves will fall.

Even if it is felled it would take a number beyond reckoning, hundreds, to storm the woods.

Maybe thousands!

A new power is rising!... You just need more gnolls.

Take all opportunities to breed, focus on food and breeding, try and raise an army as soon as possible. Expand the farms and create the largest army they've ever seen!

I would suggest trying to go for those interplanar favors. We are facing extermination- the elves still have a rather large earth titan pointed directly at us, and gods only know how many supporting forces. Quite frankly if you do not, as they say, 'take one for the team' your very race may die.

Oh, damn, I thought I forgot something. Yeah, I totally agree, we need to build up on the mountain slopes, because its real hard to fight uphill like that. Throw in some more pallisades, and it'll be hard for man or elf to get at us. Caves are good too, but could end up being collapsed on us. Much harder to level a mountain.
>>
No. 265177 ID: 9a5057

Well the good news is it looks like nobody but the elves are going to be around to yell at us for hunting those deer things. Maybe have a couple spear gnolls hunt one tomorrow and see how they are. I bet the human villiage that used to be over there was razed for overhunting the delicious deer-meats.

>>265108
Remember, we only have to fight ONE of them. Human agression is contingent upon being allied with the elves. If they are worried about fighting eachother, they will have less time to worry about us. And they have that lovely grassy field to fight over if we can just make it more costly to go through us than around us.

Hidding in the mountains might be a good way to pull that off, unless the humans made that their only route to elf land or something silly like that.

recapthe titan is coming directly for us. and will reach our town in one more day by the looks of things. i'm assuming that those grey things w/ light greenish yellow things are defensive towers of some sort maybe... the space +3,+2 looks to be a destroyed elven city.

Idea #1 - maybe the earth titan can be redirected at a new target. we just need to severe the magic bonds it has to its master then give it new orders to say um attack the humans. how hard can it be w/ 3 races of wizards, and a "cleric" helping to channel. maybe just finding out what it objectives are would be good enough, cause it seems kite-able. If its objective can be kited. Otherwise there a hard fight on our hands I'm sure.

Idea #2 - Find the missing nearby node,

Idea #3 - Or take the elves nearby node at +3,+0
perhaps it will give us just enough power to cause nothing but problems to the human/elves.

Idea #4 - Tell the elves they have absolutely nothing to gain from killing us other opening the lands for the humans to more easily attack you. And Sis is clearly not the real problem.

Idea #5 - Take up the nomads or draconian offers. 1. wants all our resources for a year. the other yourself...

Idea #6 - Move to a new location, hopefully w/ an unclaimed node. Assuming that is even possible.

Idea #7 - Kill the titan, then if we have a sizeable force capture the elves node. Who knows, sometimes reckless aggression will get you further ahead then curdling in a corner in hopes of something that may never arrive.

If we have to fight the Earth Titan I think it would be a good idea to use the Earth to Mud spell.
Also, how does Warp Wood work? If it can be used on living wood you could potentially kill the Titan very easily by disengaging that green thing in it's chest.

Urg.. so much I wish to argue with in one place.

The titan is standing in one place. It has been standing there for a couple turns, it will likely continue to stand there until our time limit is up. The elves have demanded a response by tomorrow. "Just" severing the magic bond to its master to redirect is is almost certainly outside of our abilities right now, maybe ever.

Taking the sorcery node near our city would be nice, sure, but don't expect to summon a titan if we do. The caster has to be aligned to the magic to get the really fancy summons, and Fireclaw is most suited to the chaos node way over there.

The humans think we are allied with the elves because officially we are. We have had a non-agression pact, and done limited trading. They were trying to mentor us in their snooty, irritating way. A simple awareness spell reports that level of political relationship. All the humans have required is that we break our alliance with the elves, which will be taken care of in no uncertain terms as soon as we start attacking eachother. After that, it should just be a matter of staying out of their way.

Blaaaa! the humans believe we are allied with the elves because they have been PAYING ATTENTION. If they use their same powers of PAYING ATTENTION, whatever they may be, to watch us getting in a FIGHT with the elves, they will no longer believe us to be allied with them.

In other news, genre savy: Playable races come from cities. World spawned monsters hang out in caves, ruins, lone buildings, etc. until they have been cleared and looted by a race, like the Nomads have done to that little building by our villiage. Undead spawning to attack a village is consistent with world spawned monsters. I suppose it could be a very powerful caster with nothing better to do hanging out in the church casting death spell after death spell just to harass some remote settlement. But that would be unlikely for a caster attached to a large and powerful empire.

[fine, telling you wouldn't change anything, and it confirms that you are... something new...

at the beginning, there where 3 kingdoms in this continent, and hundreds of them around the world, the world was ruled by the Great Dragons and the Primal Elementals, after a series of events that are not important now, all the archmages joined forces, and defeated them, but the price that was paid was too much for some of them, The Elven Ruler went Paranoid, at that time the southern Human Kingdom was ruled by a loved Queen, that was everything for their vassals, when she was slain... they where devastated, they vowed to destroy the elves, so they turned to forbidden magic... the rest of the world, fearing a great war would destroy the fragile peace they just achieved, decided to lock this continent from outside... the Northern Human Kingdom, the Nomads, tried to fly their own kingdom before the lock, but it was too late... The elves turned to their own forbidden magic to turn the human lands and cities to mud, and the rest of the world to deserts... the humans found a way to survive without their archmage, and the nomads, they blamed magic for everything...

and there you have it, two irreconcilable sides, in a war for hundreds of years...]id snap out of it! are you even paying attention to me?

now that the gnolls made contact with the village, I can tell you, they are humans, but not like the other ones, they are neutral, they said that they would join us for protection, one squad of speargnolls and one squad of hammergnolls have been sent to the doombats cave...

Alright human village, we have a pretty limited capability to transport large numbers at the moment. If you will accept it, I think the biggest help we can offer in the short term is to get a budding archmage and spell circle set up, along with a small honor guard to help with your defences. Maybe. Things are a bit hectic over here too. :(
>>
No. 267090 ID: cc8627

well you really shouldnt have send the gnolls to the cave, the humans could need it. ask them if they can get help from the main human faction, or at least get us under their wing.

i think we have how to do this, but we will have to break the rules. maybe all of them.

sorry for spacing out but in short we just got a lesson in world history. trying to sway under any side will damm us nonetheless.

the humans got butthurt because their ruler died and resorted to black magic. almost all of them are some sort of lich or undead creature. they really hate the elves too, so you may get under their wings if you promisse to help against them; in the long term we may have issues with taxes or even control of our own dead.

the elves are paranoid, as we already knew. they want to destroy all nature that does not belong to them. if we get under their wing, we will get population and resource controlled, plus recruitment for wars against the other "natures" that doesnt belong to them.

the nomads are racists. but they are the nicest people in the bunch. staying under their rule will negate magical growth, if that much. they blame the current mess to magic, you see. its likely where we go we wont have any magical shenanigans at all.

unless you can somehow kill the paranoid elven king, ressurect a lot of undead humans and reverse the damage done to the land, we are pretty much in a lose lose situation

[ok now seriously. thank you. i has a barrel of questions.]

[is the elven king hearing you? is there a equivalent in the human side?]

I believe the best way around this situation is by disabling the doombats' wings, so they cant fly and drop their fire goo/saliva/whatever on top of your troops heads. This means that speargnolls have flank and poke holes in the doombats' wings, while hammerbros smash the wing bones.

Although researching tech shouldn't really be done on the eve of battle, we may get some good stuff that could be useful, i.e. mines, molotovs, that could be useful against the earth golem.

However, it looks to me that the earth golem is there to scare you to join back into joining with the elves and being their vassals. If we do manage to take down the golem, the elves may fight you seriously and will probably try (and succeed) to kill you and all the gnolls. ( See what they did to the human queen )

do not tease them. they can squish our little unprotected village somewhat easy.

ask them about what happened between them and the humans, and that the humans have also been pushing us. we havent been able to do anything about our allies as well because alike you, she is actualy nice. what is your bone with the humans and the chaos creature?

yus. we must buy time. then we must try to get under the wing of SOMEONE. or we get the nomads to port us out.
>>
No. 280521 ID: 09bcfa

>>280427

Right now, you need to buy time.

First, get on your crystal ball and tell the humans that the elves are not your allies. Look, elf-made bastard golem is attacking you.

Secondly, get the teleport channel up, if you can get your non-combatants out and human archers in, you go into the battle better prepared.

Third, you'll need to cast stone to mud on the golem's feet, to basically slow that guy down. I've no doubt that it wont slow the big guy for long, but because it seems like they are only sending in one golem, albeit a big one, to scare and cow your people to surrender. If you slow down the advance but make it seem that it is still winning (i.e headed to your city), the humans may help you faster, like in one, above, as it would look like the elves are going to conquer another race. However, if they don't, the teleport channels mean you've got your civilians out of danger and have a military force that can probably escort you and Sis to the fishing port.

Fourth, buying time lets that crazy gnoll develop explosives which could prove useful.

As you are in the middle of 3 superior forces, including the nomads, I don't see any way to topple the status quo, either through words or force of arms, without major consolidation and expansion of forces.

TL;DR: slow earth guy down, get your guys out to annexed town.

If that thing's on solid ground, Earth to Mud! Make it sink under its own weight, or at least slow it down considerably.

As for actual damage, at least it was considerate to bring ammunition for us. Warp Wood next the next time it tries to pick up a tree, sink the roots in and bind it with its own weapons!

Don't worry, they've just suddenly become competent.

Order the scouts to ambush the archers just as the Captain flies over and starts to clear cut the forest around the golem. That should stop it throwing more trees at you, at least. Yo, Scales, lay off for a minute. You want the real prize, right? The real prize, of course, being the sexy lady in charge of this place. Well, if you want her, first off she's going to need to survive all this, and you've got an opportunity now to put her something like in your debt. Show off what you can do, make yourself indispensable and impress her with how you saved her bacon, and she'll melt in your arms like honey.

Curiosity magic feeds off of emotion. Fireclaws powers clearly feed of her rage and her unstable personality. In turn the magic she is teaching you I would presume is tapped into the same emotional state.

In a nutshell try manipulating the magic with a less aggressive overtone. Maybe one of protective. Look at your tribesmen dieing. Don't you want to protect them to save them from harm. Now take that and use it.

Also, though some basic training among those who have potential would help, making it so fireclaw knows who can be trained would be the greatest help. She might be a little worried about a 'successor' trying to dethrone her down the line.

Bows work on tension, and its release. You have seen how tree branches will bend, and then swing back if let go? That is how a bow works. That is why most bows are made of wood. When the string on a bow is drawn back, it forces the bow to bend. when the string is released, the bow tries to return to its original state, and forces the string to snap back with it. The arrow is thrown by the string when it moves.

Good bows, strong bows, are made of wood or other materials that are hard to bend back, because they throw themselves back into shape much harder.

Some bows use horn and bone as well, because those can bend too. Of course it's very difficult to shape and stick them all together so they won't just fly apart.

Long animal tendons can make good bowstrings as well.

I am not liking our position, we're being laid siege by the elves golem, don't know whether the humans are about to attack us or the elves but either way its not good, if they do attack the elves we at least won't be caught between 2 fighting forces, just next to.

(the elves wont try to attack from across the river it's suicide, much safer to cross the river while it's in their territory. The humans wont try to attach through the mountains filled with spider caves, also suicide. Attacking us on foot would leave those troops vulnerable to ranged attacks from the other major power)

BUT I'm worried what will happen if the two side start an all out fight, we will be prime strategic real-estate, a fortified position that allows whoever conquers it to attack the enemy from an additional angle.

We should start planning for an exodus, start tearing down our fences to build rafts to take us and as many spiders as we can across to our anexed village, as soon as fireclaw wakes have her use the Move Magic Circle spell to change our capital and make a retreat.

I know we have built alot but now we have had some practice we should be able to repeat it faster and better up north, anyway we are out of natural resources here, no trees to fell, no caves to plunder (at least not without taking down elven forest or human tunnels)

Once we get there we can clear out the doom bat cave with impunity thanks to our anti-flaming-blood-spit armour and give the spiders a new home.

This plan sounds eminently sensible. I'm a little concerned about dissembling our defenses, but those defenses aren't much good against the current assault methods being literally thrown at us anyway. Turning them into transportation is likely the best plan.

It looks like the elves might end up with more to worry about than our little Gnolls and their Spider allies, since it looks like the humans're gearing for all-out war. If the two superpowers preoccupy themselves fighting each other, this will give us time to develop ourselves more and possibly take over the weakened remainders.

We don't really have a means of 'killing the elves' though. Burn the woods, sure, that'll kill some, but it won't get them all. Likely to piss them off even more and make them take us more seriously as a threat.

That they only deployed a single Earth Titan shows that they don't really take us seriously. They're deploying the minimum necessary for border defenses and the destruction of our town. Basically taking an easy and lazy zero-risk strategy in their eyes. If we do something as drastic as burning down some of their woods (and I find it massively unlikely that we'll manage to burn them all down), it'll just piss them off.

We've seen only the smallest part of their forces. If they put any real effort into it, they could've destroyed us in a single day. Best not to spur them to do so.

I think an escape plan is the best bet for survival. Prepare our escape while waiting to see if the humans end up engaging the elves in full out warfare. If they do, evacuate both ourselves and the spiders during the confusion. The elves might hate us and the spiders, but we'll be a far smaller priority than fighting off the humans. Hell, their minimal use of forces already showed we aren't that high a priority.

>>295246
Good point. Yeah, those would be good. Though the river might be too close to the elves' woods. Best to do a test run. If they pepper the test raft with arrows, we should just evacuate overland. Our scouts've been able to reach that human town after all, and they aren't exactly water-faring.

they deployed their ONLY earth titan. it is the thing that has been keeping them in this cold war with the humans, as long as it lives they risk losing far too many people to attack. kill it and the cold war will chatter and the humans will probably charge. military strategy says to attack when the enemy is weak and losing their super weapon will make them the weakest they could be.

I think we really need to evacuate, since who knows what will happen if we manage to tip the balance of this war in the favor of the humans.

To me, it seems wiser to flee and leave them in their stalemate, while we go elsewhere to become more powerful. It is doubtful that the humans will stop at just killing the elves.

Oh, I think I might have missed this, but what exactly is stopping Sis from leaving the cave? I mean, if the elves were capable of killing her as soon as she leaves its safety, I doubt we would still be alive(though under siege).
And if it is risky, why not just have the dragon-thing fly her to the other town?

it could be she is under a instant death curse where if she is exposed to sunlight she dies instantly. and the only way to break it is to kill the elf that cast the spell. or she could literally be trapped in it by a magic force. she can get to the entrance but just ends up looking like a mime against the doorway.

also, if you never played MoM before you can't relocate anyone but nomads. relocating is their special skill. we can found a new city and then transfer our people but we need the city first.

or she is a matriach not willing to abandon her children. we need to save two towns, not 2 characters.

burning the forest means less cover for the elves, if we suceed in igniting it, if the elves dont have ice spells, etc. helping the humans could means "certain" death later, but we may actualy be able to get out of that part.

we cant really flee because of sis. we should at least warn the humans we are in need of help, but without means of comunication we are very close from getting plastered by both humans and elves.

hoping fireclaw gets better may not be enought. we should work something out by uselves. i agree on seeing the captain, we need at least to know on what foot we stand. later lets try curiosity to get some diplomacy going.
>>
No. 295453 ID: 282611

Rereading over this thread, I'm going to lay out the following priorities:

1. Scouting the area around the human village. We should do this right now. If we can get Sis to cast that spell there that'd be good, but it might only work on the area around where she is. We need to find a good location for another gnoll town if we can't just share the human village.

2. Start moving some of our gnolls across the sea to get things set up for us over there. Relocate the most important people.

3. Figure out how to evacuate Sis and her children.

4. Mass exodus. Everyone out of the area.

Aside if we can manage the time for it: conquer the chaos bat cave. There was a light at the back of the bat battle pictures that suggested a possible Chaos Node. But we might not have enough of a chance now to do it.

we cant move the town. if the magic circle is gone its game over.

the best we can do is to accept the wanderer's offer to be teleported elsewhere, but that comes with string attatched as we dont know where we are going, we would go without sis and the wanderer's themselves dislike magic.

>>
No. 295463 ID: bd2a40

>>295433

Yes, well, since we do not know what is stopping her from leaving the cave, we can ask her that and plan depending on her answer.

The spell to move the magic circle is also known to us, so once Fireclaw is back in action, our capital can be moved and then our people relocated as well.

(Now, I admit I have not play MoM before, yet it seems to me that the spiders are not a playable or town owning faction, making it possible to relocate them, since they do not have a capital. At least I think.)
>>
No. 295478 ID: 282611

Agreed. A good next move would be to talk to Sis. Tell her about the plans to move, ask how we could help her move in secret (so the elves don't find out), and ask her if she can cast that map-revealing spell again to reveal the area north of the sea. I think we should do this now while we're at the cave.

Also mention the possibility of a Chaos Node in the Chaos Bat cave.

(The spiders are something that hasn't really been seen in MoM, really. But there're some other elements that don't exist in the game, like the hivemind, etc. So while this quest's heavily based on MoM and one can take some things from familiarity with that game, one shouldn't take everything for granted. The author's so far mostly been explaining the relevant elements anyway for those unfamiliar with MoM.)

We cannot evacuate for one simple reason... the rest of the world has used their power to LOCK this continent away... to trap the insane elves and the evil magic using humans... the nomads were trapped here before the lock went up and were unable to escape since.

Also, I am glad the population debate died out because we are dealing in days here and population growth takes years.

right now the situation is stable, our archmage is recovering and when she is recovered her magic will be stronger. When that happens she should, in theory, be able to fry the titan or the forest.
The protective spell our draconian friend cast protects us from current titan attack...

Our human town annex is current being beset by undead coming from evil church, else they would have sent more help to our main city... Ideally we would want to use the days while fireclaw is recovering to fix the problem at the human town... when that is taken care of they should be safe and could send some forces to our capital. When fireclaw recovers she contacts the humans to suggest that she draw the bulk of the elven forces by setting destroying their titan and setting the forest on fire... when the elves retaliate the humans would go behind them to attack their settlements.
Then let the elves know the humans are flanking them and watch the two armies clash.
>>
No. 295729 ID: fa517c

I don't think that is the ocean it's too small, and if it is then the other land would probobly still count as part of the continent because A) we have been there, and B)just how big a continent is, (to be a continent a land mass must be bigger than Australia which holds the title of worlds smallest continent AND worlds largest island at nearly 3 million square miles.
We are currently at 129 squares, Don't know the scale, I'd assume no more than 1 mile a piece, but even using 5x5 squares we're no where near close.)

Or we could just relocate to the town we already own, help deal with the minor undead menace and see what else is up there while we gather our strength and hope the elves/humans kill each other off.

Really though, once we are fully invested in the other town and have moved all our people there, it would be dangerous for the elves to attack across the water. Namely, they would have to leave their human front completely open just to move against that town since it is one the side as opposed to on the path to the humans.

We don't even know what the chains are there for. Perhaps we shouldn't be so hasty to break them. Barbed wire is good when it is used to protect you from an enemy... same as any other weapon...

heck barbed wire can be used to herd cattle...

But it is possible that it means something bad in this context... it should be pointed out that she WILL finish this without us, if we interfere 2 things happen.

1. she finishes slightly earlier.
2. We might drastically alter her personality; not necessarily in a good way.
>>

>>300070
But not necessarily in a bad way either. Fireclaw has issues, dude. She won't tolerate other magic users, she's insecure, we bugged her into being self-conscious about her tits... Bunch of things that are holding her back. These are probably representing by the chains. Sure, we can study, but if we don't know what's what I go for removing all the chains.

It could just as well result in her becoming an overconfident megalomaniacal bitch who doesn't listen to us. I advise caution.
>>

The chains are likely linked to her powers in some way, because they are attached to her tattoos, which also seem to be associated with her powers. And since the nomad princess (unless she was lying) broke the barrier on Fireclaw's power, it is fairly likely they do something useful.

Rather than breaking, see if we can drag them with her!
-Her form draped with chains, not bound, but loose, the chains are hers, she is not the chains, pull and hold, chaos in the links. Remember You are and were Fire Claw, a Gnoll, but NOW You are the Mistress of Fire and Chains, AWAKEN!-

Madcap attempt at breaking the chains, freedom/ultimate personality wipe, fixing them maintaining self, then changing them so that they drape themselves on her form, seizing power.

I think its whats important to her,
Magic and Knoweldge are both very clear and readable.
Power isn't as important but could be repaired to make it much more so.

I think 'defining' might mean more than just looking at it more closely. It likely makes it more prominent as well.
