It's not so much a desert area as it is a barren wasteland.

What am I doing here? Well, I'm an Engineer. That means I solve problems. To be more precise, I'm a Computer Logistics and Debugging Engineer, s'why I have the fancy head ornaments, along with an operator board back. Makes the job loads easier when you're cyborged.

...actually I don't think you -can- do the job without being cyborged.

I'm an Ascendi, and part of a TechnoFirm who specializes in remote planet outposts. Been sent here to the lovely little mudworld of Shokoval because the locals apparently tried hobbling together their own code for the entire east continent's power grid, and surprise surprise, it's spazzing out at random intervals.

The person holding the callboard up is my contact.

What kind of tools do you have?
You don't have to escape, you just have to render them unwilling or unable to take you wherever they're going.
If you can't escape, then the next best tactics are attracting attention and MAD - start destroying the vehicle, prioritizing drive, control, and safety systems in that order.
There is a good chance that this vehicle is equipped with an emergency response system that will contact emergency services if a major fault is detected. There are likely safe-fail modes as well, so the vehicle will stop once operation becomes dangerous.
If you can set the car on fire then do so immediately.
If you can hack the car's on-board systems, then do so and sow chaos.

Before I can even react, panels slide from the roof of the cabin, aerosol spewing from emitters. Can't breathe. I pound on the windows, the doors, but they don't budge. I'm just a tech. Pleas for help fall on deaf ears, as I feel the strength being robbed from my body. What did I do to deserve this? Am I dying? Are they going to kill me? My throat burns. I feel tired. So tired.

Forced to file and save and encrypt and decrypt and retrieve and send. The raw data of this place flows through my head like a raging river. "Well then if it's not to help you escape then what the fuck is it?"

"I want to blow this place to kingdom come. Five years, Chloe. Five, long, years. That is quite the time to plan and prepare. There is a nuclear detonation device buried beneath this complex, meant to be used in only the most extreme of circumstances. We're going to...create those circumstances. And I will be doing this through you."

"Yeah, but why me? Why not anyone else?"

"Look at you. You were created for this kind of work. I have seen your files, Chloe, I know you more than you know yourself. That's all very good and nice and it's always good to help out family and stuff. But that just leaves two tiny small details. Number one, how the fuck are you going to get to a safe distance before the blast? Number two, what the fuck are you supposed to do afterwards?

The second one doesn't really matter unless the first one can be fixed. But if you survive you're really going to need to know where you can go for aid, how to get offplanet and how to get funds and all sort of important shit. So don't do fucking anything before you have those two clear for you.

"So what's stopping me from busting you out of here right now and high-tailing it?"

"So single-minded...ugh. For one, the bases computer systems would go dead, without a central core to control them. Two, the whole base would be put on high alert then, bringing the whole brunt of the Military Wing down upon our heads. Three, I would be very, -very- dead if you attempted to disconnect me. And without me, you wouldn't get anywhere fast. You'd be recaptured or killed."

"And why did they go and grab you and turn you into a computer? What's the point?"

"The brain is a far more advanced computer than anything man could create. It adapts, it learns, it -thinks-. Combine that with someone who already has a natural affinity for computers, -and- can directly interface with machines...well...you can see why."

"So say I go along with your little 'plan'. What the fuck about me? A nuke? How the fuck am I supposed to get the hell out of the way of THAT?"

"Hell if I know, and Hell if I care. You're a clone. You're nothing but a tool. A facsimile of me spliced up with space shark. You're a weapon, an instrument, a fake, nothing more. I could care less what happens to you after you've served your purpose."

"I'm a FREAK, I'm a MUTANT, I'm a MONSTER, all my memories are FAKE, I'm not even on the planet I thought I was raised on, I...I just...I can't..."

I break. Hard. Emotions hit me like a truck, and I fold to the floor. I don't even fight the tears that come.

"I never asked for this, I never once asked for this, oh god..."

Leona is silent, leaving me to my heaves and sobs. Everything just hits me at once. I'm alone. Everyone I ever knew or met doesn't even exist. They were just parts of a computer program. All my memories are fake. I know nothing of my past, my REAL past. Maybe she's right, maybe all I am is a weapon, meant to destroy and kill. Maybe that's the only thing I'm good for. And then I feel something I haven't felt, haven't TRULY felt before.

Fear. Fear of my existence. Of my purpose. Am I really a monster? I've killed...and I felt no remorse. And it felt -good-. Like an ecstatic high. My stomach lurches, threatening to expel whatever it holds at this thought. And so I weep. I weep and mourn for a life that never should have been.

And then the silence is broken.

"I'm...sorry. I didn't...I didn't mean to...look, there might be a...another way. One that wouldn't result in either of us being killed."

"*hic*Why would you f-fuckin' care about me. I'm just a f-fuckin' clone like you said, a monster, a living w-weapon, my l-life ain't worth shit t'anyone."

"I wasn't...thinking. I've been here for five years...that's a lot of time to let your anger and hatred get the best of you...I...you're not a monster, okay? You're...gifted. Look, everything has a reason to happen in the grand scheme of things. God or Fate or whoever wouldn't have let you come to be if there wasn't a reason for your existence. And well...even if you're a clone, you're still...blood. You may not have come from my loins but...hell...you're the closest thing to kin I have in the place right now. I'm the closest thing to kin you have right now."

Tell her to use her smarty computer brain to figure out a way for both of you to get out. Demand that revenge be a secondary priority to escape. If she can crash the computers in such a way that nobody will be alerted for ten minutes while you run away carrying her (possibly sans limbs, if she's as firmly locked into that frame as she looks) then that's a plan.

You can pick them off one by one later. (Or at least, tell yourself that)

"There are three substations within this facility that hold the bulk of the firewall which keeps me from taking absolute control of the entire computer system. Two are within the Science Wing, and they're fairly unprotected - two guards and an automated defense turret. The third is somewhere in the Military Wing - they've kept me dark about that part of the facility on purpose. I have no idea where it could be in there, but you can sure as hell bet that it will be quite fortified. To disengage the safety locks that's keeping me out, you'll have to procure the Master Control Keys from both guards at each station. Then use them to gain entrance into the substation room itself, and then disable the firewall programming from within."

"So...relatively simple then. Should be a piece of cake."

"Do not let your newfound abilities get to your head, Chloe. This isn't the simulation anymore, you -CAN- die here. And I can't do anything to help you out here until you have those substations disabled. I would suggest you raid Chemics and R&D before tackling this head-on. Hrm...
After we're done here, we should go pop as much Counter-Suppress as we can find. After that we should return to that scientist we captured and pump him for intel - and by pump, I mean we explain to him that space sharks can read minds but you aren't so great at leaving everything in working order, and he can either tell you everything he knows about the facility and be rewarded by being placed back in the safety of the cylinder, or you can rip the information from his mind and potentially leave him in unfathomable torment for the rest of his life.

Ask Red if this is an all or nothing thing, or if she'll get more control with every substation we hit. If it's all or nothing then we want to hit the military wing first; it's got the heaviest guard, but if they catch wind of something going wrong then they'll be able to harden security much more than any other wing. Plus we might be able to seal the access points to prevent them from being able to send aid to other wings.

Also ask why she'll die if she's removed. Push the issue if she resists, and tell her you need time to think of possibilities that wouldn't occur to her.

Before you leave, give her a hug and say "Thanks, mom". We want her to emotionally invest in you so she won't just set-off the nuke as soon as she gets control.
>>
No. 268683 ID: 8bdb6a

Attempt to shapeshift yourself a disguise. Stop if it hurts or gets fucked up.

Ask her about the alert status of the military wing. Might you be able to take them unawares? Disable the firewall without having to fight your way in and out?

If neither of these ideas work, you'd better go for the weaker ones first in hopes that you can improve your abilities by the time you have to fight the military wing. But you should ONLY do that if you're totally certain you can't get to the military one without a fight.

Leona handily highlights both Chemics and R&D on the minimap for me. Looks like they're right next to each other.

Right now we have a total point pool of 5, set in a balanced configuration: 2 in Attack, 1 in Defense, and 2 in Speed. Fleshwhips are easy for me to shift, blades and spikes take a little bit of time, and even then they're not very impressive in terms of size. I'd be best at quick, speedy attacks if I came up against any sort of opposition. I can redistribute the points in ATK, DEF or SPD if I'd like, but at least one point has to remain in a single stat, and it will take time for my body to adjust to the new role it's being coerced into.

"You said the one in the Military Wing was heavily fortified. How fortified are we talking?"

"I haven't a clue, they keep my blind in that area of the facility. You know how the Military is - they don't want anyone snooping around their business. All I can tell you is that, in your current state, heading in there would be suicide. Each substation you remove from the equation means more subroutines I can control - right now, I can open only the most lowest of security locked doors for you, as well as monitor the cameras. As you remove the blocks in place, I'll be able to have almost limitless control over the facility - overload EPS conduits, lock doors, unlock bulkheads, turn on and off power to various sectors. It's kind of an imperative you do these things before going all gung-ho into the Military quarter."

"Uh-huh. And why exactly would you die if I decided to hack you out of that metal throne of yours?"

"It's a nano-explosive implanted upon the surface of my brain. If I'm removed or my intended function is severed, it detonates. It's...not a very pleasant thought, you understand."

...right. Okay then, are we done grilling Big Red?

Space sharks can do some amazing surgical procedures, so if we get enough CS we should be able to clean that muck off her brain.

Actually, just ask her to tell you everything she knows about the explosive.

Make sue to ask Big Red if the enemy might realize our mission objective. Red is immobile, and CAN be shutdown with the flick of a power switch, or even a bit of liquid short-circuiting the system.

Big Red may be our most valuable asset now, but she is also our most vulnerable asset. We can always find ways to escape, but she's stuck.

We NEED to have a plan C, one that covers getting around the explosive, or at least making sure Big Red survives and we still escape.

Ask if we could go uplink ourselves with her again at a later time with one of those pods. Immediate training and skills uploading sounds matrixy, but useful.

I'm not even a quarter confident in my abilities, and I'd really rather not risk turning the brain of the only ally I have right now into either A) mashed potatoes or B) a smoldering crater. Maybe we can see if we can't find anything about getting her out from that harness safely, but for now let's just focus on our task at hand, okay?

Suppress lethal to regular humanoids, but when used on a xenological lifeform like a Valcien, it merely suppresses their natural abilities, and with large enough doses, forces them into a comatose state, whereas Counter-Suppress is the exact anti-thesis. It breaks down whatever components of Suppress linger in the system, but not entirely - if a given creature has enough Suppress within them, it would take more than several injections of Counter-Suppress to completely purge the Suppress from their system. I've handed out samples to each of the labs which have the proper equipment to study them. Oooh, there we go, much better.

Making these tendril thingies and altering my flesh seems to come a lot easier now. And I seem to be able to make more things out of bone...spikes and spines mostly, claws look a bit sharper too. And I think...if I concentrate enough on it...I could do some really weird shit. Like...launching spikes or something, maybe even some sort of chemical spit thingy. It's weird, but it's like...I dunno, the more I clear this shit out of my system, the more my body seems to 'speak' to me and let me know what it can and can't do.

>POINT POOL INCREASED TO 8!
>EXOTIC ABILITIES UNLOCKED!

>Exotic Abilities (EXO) is a point-buy system. You cannot shuffle points into Exotics like you can with Attack, Defense, and Speed. These are like "Talents" of most MMOs - pick which ones you want, and they'll remain available until you shift those points into a different set of Exotic Abilities.

>Right now, you have one point in Exotics that you can spend. Only the first tier of abilities is available to you, but as Chloe gains in strength, higher tiers (as well as more expensive) abilities will become unlocked.

>Your choices are:
>PARALYZING TOXIN - A biochemical agent which induces paralysis to a localized area on contact, total paralysis if injected into the bloodstream.
>VISCOUS ACID - Acid glands are developed in the back of the throat, allowing Chloe to spit a burning, sticky, tar-like glob of acid at a foe.
>BONE DARTS - Creates specialized muscles which allow Chloe to launch small sharpened darts made of bone at high velocity.
>ULTRASONIC BANSHEE - Alters the vocal cords to allow for a high-pitched sonic screech capable of debilitating the hearing of those in immediate range, often times stunning them for a short period of time.

>You may also choose to shuffle Chloe's primary stats around at this time. A balanced powerset would be values of 3/2/3 (ATK/DEF/SPD).
>>
No. 278061 ID: fd61dd

The toxin would be somewhat useful for capturing people, but don't think we need that here.
Acid is often a versatile tool, though we might be able to just FIND some instead.
Bone darts... probably won't compete well against an actual gun, but while we have nothing would be much better than resorting to knives in a gun fight.
Ultrasonic would be a great surprise weapon against personal, but probably useless against robots.

I'm leaning towards Ultrasonic Banshee.
>>
No. 278066 ID: f6360f

>>278051
Paralysis isn't hugely useful beyond what we can already do, that is, beating the crap out of someone.

Acid would be a ranged weapon and could have utility in terms of burning through locks or hinges, that sort of thing. Could definitely go for that.

Bone darts would be a nice ranged weapon, but frankly as soon as we run into a guard we could just take their gun and accomplish the same thing without using our upgrade points.

Banshee could be useful; area-stunning enemies is always handy. It would mark out our location extremely obviously whenever we used it, though, and we're still trying for some stealth here.

Overall, I'd say go for the acid.

As for our point distribution, go with 2/2/4. Speed remains of the essence, but let's put enough points into fighting to remain capable if we run into trouble. I'm not going to lie, 1/1/6 is highly tempting.

With that done, I think we're done here unless this computer will let us pull up a detailed map of the section that might have the security station labeled. We need to keep moving, and looting random chemicals doesn't seem terribly useful. We could probably scrape up something handy, but it would cost us irreplaceable time.

There's quite a few that are ammo based and then one or two which look energy based. At least, I think they are. They havr these vertical slats instead of a normal barrel at the front...and there's no place for a magazine to go in, just some metallic contacts on the bottom of the grips.

The thing is I don't even know if these are in working order. Some of them have ammo in them, others are completely missing the magazine. And if memory serves me right, firing a gun makes a rather loud noise...I thought you wanted me to be stealthy?

If stealth fails you'll want a backup plan, and backtracking is a pain in the ass.
Anything that's loaded is working well enough to be loaded; rapid fire might not be wise, but taking shots one at a time is unlikely to cause a problem.
I'm a bit iffy on taking experimental energy weapons even if they're entirely functional; MASER weapons would bounce off metal walls like nobody's business, while LASER weapons require protective eyewear.
Let me do some math here...
Solar irradiance= 1400w/m^2
-Per mm= 0.0014w/mm^2
Minimum pupil diameter= 3mm
-Area= 7mm

Retnal exposure rate= ~0.01w

So when the sun damages your vision it's doing so with less than 1/100th of a watt.

To compare, an energy weapon needs to deliver enough energy to cause serious damage. Lets lowball it and use a bullet's energy.
Energy=1.5kJ

Lets also assume the same duration of impa-fuck it, this is too much work.

TL;DW: Physics says directed energy weapons will blind you if you so much as look at the point of 'impact'. That's not an unsolvable problem, but if it's not deployed then we don't know if it's solved or not.

Grenades are always fun. Hopefully these actually work.

I'm loathe to test any of these things as guns equal LOUD NOISES. So I nab the energy pistol which looks to be the most intact out of the weapons here. Hopefully THAT works too.

>LAZERZ WILL BLIND YOU BRO
Ehh...fine, I'll take one of these regular projectile ones too. Crybabies.

I am rapidly running out of pocket space.

Alright, computer time! Lessee...data files...search "suit"...loading...c'mon you piece of shit...there we go!

>SENSO-MORPHIC MISSION SUIT >Designed for Project THESIS >All-Purpose combat suit for Subject C-703. Utilizing reverse-engineered fabrication methods, we have been able to craft a complete suit out of Material C-4421A, or "Synthetic Sensory Morphic Fabric". The suit should be able to reconfigure itself to allow for C-703's budding morphic abilities, as well as allow us to keep tabs on her utilizing the tracking technology obtained from Object E-922302C. In addition it will also sport a small compact subspace radio, as well as monitor C-703's biology. A small automated ChemKit was proposed, but the higher-ups believed that it would simply get in the way of C-703's shapeshifting prowess. >PROJECT STATUS: 90% Complete. The suit shifts a third time, seeming to finally settle on something static. Not too revealing, though not too restrictive either.

>Try to shapeshift a tendril
Huh, nifty. It formed a hole in the back before the tentacle even erupted out...

>Try to shift the suit itself
I attempt to do so. Nothing happens. Either I can't exert conscious thought over this thing or it'd deciding to ignore me.

>Pockets on demand
Yeah, that is kinda nifty...but it's done more than just made pouches. It made itself a belt and there's clips for my grenades on it, as well as holsters for the two guns I picked up! Maybe it's supposed to be some sort of adaptive cloth that makes clothing related things as the wearer needs them?

>Body armor
Erm...this stuff is like the consistency and feel of spandex almost, just thicker. The most it's done as far as defense is some *ahem* strategically placed padding. I highly doubt it was meant for full-on armor.

Okay, well, that was fun an interesting. To recap, I've got two smallish pouches at the rear sides of this belt thing which looks like they could hold a couple small items, some holsters for the guns which frees up some more space, and then built-in clips for the grenades I nabbed in the previous lab.

So now we can either go to the Propulsion one or check out the Electronics lab.

Idly push more buttons on the womwom while moving. If you can't get it to turn off, ditch it. It could be a tracking device or something, and WHATEVER it does, we don't really want it to both make noise and light while we're sneaking. Even if it's a cool forcefield.

Ask him if there is anything at all he can do for you if you leave him alive.

If he doesn't have a VERY good answer, break his neck and beeline for the server at the top of your enhanced speed, snatching anyone in the way, breaking their necks, and dumping the bodies inside random rooms so that they're not immediately visible in the halls.

Get password to access the counter-suppress, or where you can find the passwords or whatever you need to gain acces. Then it's necksnappy time for him and his companion. They're a unacceptable liability if left alive. Besides, they're among the responsible for your situation, yours and your mommies. Merely 'threaten' them with tentacle rapey death. These guys are nerds so they most likely have seen more than their fair share of hentai, should shut them up nicely, especially if your tentacles make the motions to.

Other wie tell them to calm the fuck down, and ask them what they have to lose by helping you. I mean, seriously, you're already out of containment, whats the boss gonna do, fire em for helping you under duress?
and who knows, one of them just might HAVE a tentacle rape fetish for reals, and will become a willing, if creepy ally.
