on a distant planet, in a distant alien constellation, in the distant future, a scout vessel slams hard against the scorching sands, skidding along the dunes and slowing to a halt under the binary sun.

"Awaken, child!" the AI commands through the console's speakers. it can't read her vitals but its sure that she survived. the navani would never be so disrespectful of their ancestors to die by way of crash landing. "awaken , do not let your end come from gravity and the hand of misfortune!"

The Navani reluctantly opens her eyes. the first ting she notices is the heat and dryness. it comforted her and reminded her of her homeworld, Navarr, though she had never been there personally. the second thing she notices is the concussion and the blood snaking its way down her forehead.

Apply pressure to the wound and find something to bandage it with, or if you have some kind of awesome futuristic first aid healing spray use that instead.

Do you remember how you crashed? Were you shot down? Out of fuel? Fell asleep on the wheel?

>why did you make me remember that show?

a voice. no. voices. the Navani hears voices. she is unsure what that could mean, but does not question it. instead she turns her attention to her injuries. "SiD. give me a report on my Vitals."

"I can't." the AI replies, "my systems were damaged in the crash. you'll need to just eyeball it."

The Navani looks herself over quickly. the most major injury is the concussion, but other than that, she can only see very minor cuts and bruises and she doesn't think she has any internal injuries. she could easily fix all of this with the medkit in the ship's outer compartment. definitely not broken bones or anything.

...well not many at least.

in any case the Navani decides to make mental note of the items available to her. under the ship's console is the standard Navani survival kit: a hand hatchet, a bust gun, and a large knife. normally a bust gun is used to blast the windshield off if it gets stuck, but it can also turn an unarmored target into gorey confetti if used at close range. she has a cartridge filled with 10 rounds.

I guess splinter you finger and wrap your head to stop the bleeding should be the first things you do. as for what to do next you got any idea on where you are (like what planet) or what your goal is or is it simply do die at this point because if it's the latter, stick to the shade of your craft, wait for nightfall and then head of to the mountains unless you see something else that looks like better destination to walk towards.

Hold the bust gun with your left hand-thing, and press your right hand-thing against your wound. Now, carefully try to step out of the cockpit and head for the exterior compartment. Watch out for shifting sand, unknown desert planets seem to always have monsters in the sand.

Alright, you should get that medkit and work on your injuries. After that maybe you can head to the mountain in the distance. That would be more habitable than a desert.

Do what you can, medically, and gather what useful supplies you have.

Before heading away from the ship though, you want to get every bit of useful information out of your AI as possible. What brought us down, what parts of your ship still work, is it capable of broadcasting a distress beacon (or is that a good idea? If you were shot down by hostiles, it might not be).

the Navani chooses to believe that the voices are the voices of her ancestors, guiding her in her time of need. this is a more comforting thought to her than that the voices stem from her headwound.

"SiD, what can you tell me about the crash?"

"8:15 AM Galactic standard time; You were called to an unknown planet's orbit by a Navani distress signal. 12:21 PM galactic standard time; you were ambushed by Murderscrub privateers. 12:30 PM Galactic standard time; ship received critical damage and was forced to make a crash landing on the planet's surface."

"SiD, what can you tell me about this planet?"

"ZxS5221. you can tell it's Uman because it's a bunch of random numbers and letters. there's nothing in the archives about it except that it's a Uman mining colony."

the Navani breathes a sigh of relief. if she had crashed on a Kosh or Kriil planet she would probably be better off in the desert. Umans are normally quite hospitable, even to PoW's.

"SiD, can you put out a distress signal? maybe there are some Umans in the area listening in."

"you think that's a good idea? the 'scrubs might hear it and come back for round 2."
>>
No. 523073 ID: 5d4146

Hrm...Right. They probably will be closeby...Then again, how good are you with desert survival? If you can last a long time out here on your own with what you have, I'd say the distress signal is a bad idea...
Hrrm. I don't suppose any Umans might be in sight?
>>
No. 523076 ID: 23b97a

Right. Hostiles in the area. No distress signal, for now.

Are we still picking up the original distress signal? An idea how far away it's broadcasting from? Or what direction?

How functional is the ship? What still works? Is there any hope of getting it airborne, again, with what we have?

Did the computer or ship note anything interesting on our way down? Did we have downward facing cameras active? If we're stuck on foot, an areal view of our surroundings might prove useful.

And remember to make with the first aid.

"well most others don't have the same regenerative ability of the Navani." the AI explains, "some injuries could take weeks or even months to heal for such Races."

"that sounds awful!"

"relatively, yes, but it has caused Umans and Kosh to be much more industrious in the medical field. Umans invented TetraMytozine, afterall."

"that reminds me," the Navani remembers the weeping gash on her head, "I should probably patch myself up, huh SiD?"

"it'd be advisable."

the Navani surveys the immediate area for signs of life. she wouldn't want to become anything's meal. after confirming the desert, or at least the area, is indeed deserted, the Navani carefully climbs out of the vessel with the survival kit in tow and bust gun in hand.

So... SiD confirms the ship is a loss, then?

Can we pop SiD's core and take it with us? Or connect it to a remote device? Failing other options, we might as well shut down the ship systems and computer to conserve power.

Our initial flyby (crash) didn't provide any information about the area? The computer can't still pick up the original distress signal that brought you here?
>>
No. 523112 ID: 9ddf68

"SiD, did you happen to survey the area during the descent?"

"I was mostly concentrating on keeping us intact, but I got a snapshot or two on the way down, yeah." the AI answers, "I couldn't see any settlements in the desert, but the mountain 25 Kilometers to the west has a mining camp at its base."

"did you see anyone?"

"no, but at that altitude I wouldn't anyway."

the Navani doesn't need SiD to tell her the ship isn't in a shape to fly and most certainly not in a shape for star travel. the internal generator seems functional, otherwise SiD would be out of comission, which means the engine is still working, but she's not sure if the propulsion is intact, and if it was, the wings have been torn off. she can't even find the wind shield.

thankfully the outer compartment is made of some tough stuff. the inside seems completely fine. inside she finds her medkit, some rations (on ice, of course), and a spare uniform.

1-10

the Navani opens the Medkit. inside is a syringe and 4 vials of TetraMytozine, along with a very weighty pamphlet filled with warnings and instructions.

"well yeah, kid." SiD said, "it's just a drug. drugs have side effects. in any case whatever that stuff does to you it's a damn sight better than waiting for your brain to drown."

the Navani hesitates. she's never injected Tetramytozine, but she's heard it called "Shrapnel" by marines before. in any case she should probably finish her plans for the day before taking a dose.
>>
No. 523433 ID: 23b97a

...well, if these drugs are going to put you down for a day, you're going to need some kind of shelter from the sun.

It's for the best, really. In a desert, you should really be doing your traveling at night. (Unless this is one of those planets where multiple suns, or the rotation or axial tilt results in never-ending daylight where you are).

And tell SiD to try and talk you down if you
>>

Well you already have voices in your head. Any side effects should not be to horrible.

Concussions though are no laughing matter. Check to see if there is anything in the manual about those.

Why do our rations need to be chilled and what in this desert might be edible?

If the drug knocks us out for a few hours we should scavenge everything we can from the ship then find or set up shelter. If the AI has a mobile unit we should take him with us. If not ask for advice on that.

the Navani doesn't need shelter, at least not if it stays like this. Navani are built for hot and dry. the worst case scenario would be if she passed out and layed in the sun all day, and then she'd probably only get a mild sunburn.

Shrap- TetraMytozine does indeed work on concussions, it even cures mild brain damage if taken quickly enough.

the rations need to be chilled otherwise they might escape.

the Navani's stomach lurches, and she barely holds down her last meal. soon after, blood flows freely form her nose and eyes. she becomes worried. what if the drug doesn't work and she bleeds out? what if she passes out and is picked clean by some scavenger? what if the 'scrubs come back while she's doubled over groaning?

after a few moments the nausea is replaced by the entirely unique and yet instantly recognizable feeling of one's body rapidly repairing itself. her pain is sucked away and replaced by a nearly all consuming warmth. she felt as though she was a Nivling again, sitting by the fire in her grandfather's cabin, listening to one of his war stories while eating a squig her grandmother snuck by her mother and father.
