RECAP OF THE PREVIOUS CHAPTER:

*Vicki took the first step forward! (by selling everything she could get her hands on, rendering herself and her best friend homeless, in exchange for a magic book she can't understand.)
*A goal was set - they would look forward, not back, and attempt to use the book as a foundation to create a new school of magic!
*Victor located and secred the perfect space for the new school! (by mass slaughtering an entire criminal gang that already lived there.)
*And Vicki found the first new recruit! Friends are the key to success! (even if they are a twitchy firemage who's sincerely attempted to kill her, twice.)

"I totally like that lampshade idea."

[[Then we can get him a lampshade. But for now, we have more important things to discuss then the green headed fellow. He will stay put for now, he has not made a run for it yet. As it stands... I have not seen the dwarf since I woke up this morning, although I have not gone looking for him, either. Hopefully he liked what he saw, has decided to join us, and is just in the process of packing up his bags. Even with his support, though, we have lots more to do. The mansion must be renovated as it is currently mostly empty, we must recruit more mages, and, related to the last, we absolutely must find someone who can understand that book. It is our strongest bargaining chip at the moment, aside from me... and this green fellow, I suppose. But if we cannot find mages who can actually use the book, then what should be our strongest quality will be our weakest.

I have scrounged about four thousand dollars, from wallets and underneath floorboards. It is not much of a fortune and it will not support us for long, but for now it allows us to begin buying items we need, and it gives us the opportunity to travel the globe.]]
>>
No. 559791 ID: 9ddf68

by talking to greeny I meant could you cast that spell on him that lets us talk you you and Vickie but yeah not to much of a big deal right now.

So as for travel, can we use the layline across the street as a form of travel or not really, Also what kind of things should we get for the magic school? I mean I would guess books and other schoolish things but I'm not sure if we should maybe buy some more cots or sleeping bags or maybe even some strong fabric and some rope and make hammocks or something if we're planing to actually have the students and teachers live on campus. I mean I'm sure we can come up with ways to get bargain whatever for the school but even if it's us just going dumpster diving $1000 means we should really only focus on one thing right now till we can make more money. So since you probably have a better Idea of what we need is there anything you say we should try to get above all else? Just list off things from most important to have to lest important

Also on the subject of money, how are we going to make more? I mean we're probably going to charge students right, but are there other ways to make money? I mean if we can get someone to enchant things or make potions we could sell those as well to make some more cash right? Hell Firebeard knows some magic, if he could teach us we could maybe set up a clinic or something. Just fishing for Ideas here feel free to through me a bone at any time.

[[Before we discuss what we can do, and where we can find more mages, allow me to throw you all a big bone, and explain a little about how exacty this world works. I painted a map this morning, as I woke up early. As I usually do. The kitchen table was, unfortunately, the largest whole surface I had to work with, so it had to do. I should tell you that did not mark the various countries, as I did not feel it would interest you. Instead, I marked territory based on who has the dominant claim. Hopefully that will give you all an idea of where we should start searching. Excuse me for this lecture, I am afraid it will be somewhat long.

The grey land is owned by the humans. It is almost entirely made up of one large megatropolis, called Manifest City. This city is too large to reasonably mark out all the key parts of, but if we are looking to shop for anything at all, it won't be too hard to find it here. As long as it is not goblin-made, that is considerably more difficult to buy. We could also likely find mages at any of the many competing schools, of which there are dozens. But the issue is that they will most likely already be secure, and not terribly willing to jump onto our project. Or so I feel.

The green land belongs to the elves. They are similar in temperament to the humans, with only a few differences- one, they are far less expansionist. Quite the opposite. Humans outnumber elves ten thousand to one. This says less about the elves then it does about humans. Two, elves have a preference for magic rather then technology for their everyday needs, but technology rather then magic for specialty tasks. The opposite is true for humans. In most other ways the two are indistinguishable. It would be much easier to find magic users among the general population here, but I am not sure how eager they would be to travel out of their homeland and join a fledgling school.

The few chunks of red island are all the orks have kept for themselves, save a small bit on the mainland, which was given to them by the goblins. The orks are deeply tribal and have a close-knit family structure. They are hostile to outsiders but will treat their friends as well as they treat their own brothers and sisters. Ork wizards are not unheard of, and may well jump at the chance to move to the more modern human world, but they are also not renouned for their talent and skill.

And finally, the icy tundras of the north and south belong to the goblins, who are the only ones who want them. Goblins have absolutely no magical ability at all, but they are by far the greatest craftsmen on the planet. Goblin technology is ludicrously advanced. They also do not like to share it with anybody, save a few scraps that they give to orks, with whom they feel some kinship. Searching for wizards in one of the walking goblin fortresses would be absolutely ridiculous, but if we're looking to buy anything technology-related, you could not possibly do better. Assuming they will speak with you at all, that is.

I have marked the capital cities of each race in yellow. I have also marked the domains of the six gods and goddesses in purple, although that is more for future reference. Heron, the god of air, water, and knowledge, could be of help to us now, as could Lord Baron, the god of magic, chaos and pleasure. But although most will happily accept an audience, dealing with any god is extremely dangerous. Especially Lord Baron. I cannot say I personally endorse going down that route.

Do you all have any questions?]]
>>
No. 559804 ID: a87e3a

Uh, where are we on that map? Does it even matter, since we have access to a leyline?

I'd say approaching Heron should wait until we have at least asked a human mage about the book. Bothering a god when we have not tried all other obvious options is a bad idea. Can't we just find a language specialist in Manifest City?

Why is Dreamstealer marked with a question mark?

I kinda want to check out the City of Dreams, but that's for tourism, not business.
>>
No. 559806 ID: 9ddf68

what about dwarfs?

But yeah for now fuck the gods as I'd like to save those for when we're desperate, The human lands sound like a good place to maybe find students and sounds like that's where we're going to go for most of the things we want to buy for the school simply because it's all there. As for finding more teachers for our school, at this point the only people I think would join would be those who are not doing to well themselves like Firebeard, have some kind of mark against them in there record (like drinking during class), or don't like the rules or structure of whatever school they themselves work for and are looking for a change of scenery. I say when we're picking up stuff for the school we should keep an eye open and an ear to the ground for any mages who might be willing to work for us.

The elves I feel would be our beast bet to find mages simply because they don't sound as competitive as the human lands but like you said we'd have to find a way to get them to come over her in the first place, Could also be a very good place to try and see if we could find someone to read the book since magic is so well used over there, assuming the book isn't illegal over there like it is here.

The orks would be probably the easiest to convince to join our school as both teachers and students assuming we could actually get to a point where they won't kill us on sight. Defiantly something we should look into but I still think we should probably hold off on the orks until we can defend ourselves properly incase things don't pan out so well over there.

The goblins at this point and time are even less useful then the gods because they have nothing we want and if we do want some of there tech I pretty sure we don't have the cash to even buy there garbage if they're as tight fisted as you say they are. Might be able to work out a deal that we could maybe act as a middle man and sell some of there scrape technology they let out to try and make some extra money but I have no idea how we'd pull that off.

So plan, head to the human lands first just to buy things and see if we can't find some teachers or students if you think we're ready to find some. Then if we can't find anyone head to the elf land to see if we can't get the book translated and again more teacher hunting. The rest can wait till later.

[[We are near the "M" in Manifest. But no, it is not important. I did not bother to mark it, as, with the leyline directly across the street, we do have easy access to almost anywhere on the globe. Although, not cheaply, most leylines are regulated and have tolls.

Dreamstealer is marked with a question mark because nobody knows exactly where he is. There are only rumors. That spot is given as the most likely, but nobody can verify it. He is the only god who does not accept any visitors. Or, at least, never returns them in one piece.

And we can find many language specialists in this city, but that is not what we need for the book. It is not written in another language, it is written in magic. Do not ask me, I do not understand it either. It is a human thing.]]

[[Dwarves live all over the globe, in small, scattered villages and communes below the surface. Assume that they co-own every land, but also have no noteworthy cities to visit.

huh, it look like greeny is looking at something, kinda hard to tell though with the whole no face thing.

But yeah splitting up doesn't sound to bad, You seem to be the more charismatic of the two of you so I'd think having you in the city to try and convince people to join our school would be best, but is they're anything we should know about the elves and there land before we head off with Vickie to try and see if we can find someone to translate the book, or at least teach us to read the damn thing?
>>
No. 559816 ID: f44ca3

Lets start out by consolidating our base of power and making sure we have day to day funds first.

Also we need to fix this place up. The condition of where you live says a lot about you and unless all of our prospective student/teachers are murder hobo's we need to look nice.

For money could you start up your side business of selling bottled chaos again? If you do not like the idea that's fine but it seems like a good way to make money.

As for finding someone to read the book do we know the location of any of the other magic books? Someone wrote the thing so there has to be a way to translate them.
>>

Victor, the uh, not-dead guy has been mimicking your movements when you're not looking at him. When you look at him, he mostly stops moving, I think. I don't think he is deaf and mute, I think you made a completely new being that has no understanding of your lang-wait how do you speak anyway? We hear your words but it is like you aren't saying them out loud, more like it's directly sent to us.

Anyway, I think it is trying to learn by imitation.

A book written in magic, being a human thing... we definitely need to find a human mage. Elves won't help. Is there anywhere nearby that fits the bill?

>>559819
While I'm not convinced he's mimicking Victor, it seems possible, at least. Can the speak-with-tgchan ritual be performed on him?

But yeah, what kinds of things do you suppose we need? What kinds of things does the mansion already have? While you're out getting supplies (preferably at thrifty places), it would be good to keep your eyes peeled for unhappy mages.

[[Hello, Firebeard! I take it you like it here?]]

"Aye. Jus' as long as yeh all don' try an' get inteh my study, Ah don' mind teachin' a bit o' my fire magick tah whoever wants it."

[[We wouldn't dream of it. What's yours is yours. We are just glad to have you on the team.]]

[[Which brings me to what I wanted to discuss. Mages tend to be picky and fickle. Even the 'murder hobos', as you so eloquently put it. They have great demands for space and comfort. A typical school of magic has fewer chalkboards and rigid wooden desks, and more sofas, lounge areas and elaborate personal apartments. Mages as a whole are remarkably inefficient and demand a great deal of space, which is why I aquired such a large property. But as long as it is empty of comfort items, you are correct in that we will not attract most wizards.

Actually buying the couches and wallpaper and such will not be difficult, and I won't need your help for that. Unless, of course, you want to help suggest decoration or layout, in which case I would be happy to listen. But what we need most is money. Four thousand will be enough to furnish perhaps two or three rooms, at best. As it stands most rooms are filled with little more than the occasional sliver of scrap wood or metal. Only the kitchen survived the assault completely intact.

I can only see a few avenues for cash flow. I could, indeed, start up my business again, but I am several hundred miles from my original store, and I doubt my regular customers would care or be able to use the leylines to reach me. I have no established clientbase here. And, far more importantly, I am not sure if mages would appreciate such a reckless business going on under this roof. However, I could still gather up my potions and perhaps talk to Seshe about back payment, if you believe that's the path to take. Other then that... I am afraid all I can see is criminal enterprise. Robbing a bank or finding another gang to extort could be very profitable, but obviously less than ideal.]]

Back payment? She owes you money?

Can't we, I dunno, collect bounties or delve into dungeons? I suppose wiping out another gang would be profitable. How about we scout around in the other nearby warehouses? Clean the neighborhood up, eh? Otherwise... man I don't even know what the job market is like in your world, what with both magic and technology existing.

It seems like any overt criminal activity would quickly be traced back to you because you're the only Anelyd with arms. Unless you can do it without being seen, and there aren't any magical detectives that can see into the past to see that you did it.
>>
No. 559943 ID: f44ca3

If you did not ask for your full share before it might be a little rude to show up looking for it now. I would just go over and tell Seshe you are thinking about getting back into the bottled magic business and you need to make some money fast.

Heck she might have some ideas for you. Also have you tried Ebay?
>>
No. 559963 ID: 98b1f5

Hmmm. Any reason you can't just keep selling those potions where you were? Perhaps just have Seshe sell them for you? Which might not work well. >>559942
>Back payment? She owes you money?

[[Not entirely, no. But goblins aren't terribly greedy. They like money as much as you and me, of course, but they are more concerned with respect and social standing- their own respect, and their own superiority. Money comes as a distant second in comparison. I was hoping I would be able to weasel some cash out of her, somehow. I was going to, as humans say, "play it by ear". Perhaps rely on her to have not kept close track of her finances, or ask for a departing present, or simply beg and constantly reaffirm that she is much better then I am and that as lowly as I am, I need money more then she does.

But, moving on. Firebeard would consider a request to take my place as a salesclerk to be beyond offensive. Besides, he cannot actually bottle magic, that is a skill only I possess. And I cannot continue to work there, it is not close to a leyline, and seeing as how I am now standing close to four hundred miles away, leyline travel is a must. I can make the trek today, but not every single morning.

I could also do some freelance work. That is not something I considered. However, I am not at all good with computers, and any such work would probably be found there, on the 'message boards' and 'forums' and such. Generally, when it came to matters of technology, I asked Vicki or Seshe for help. And as there is no internet connection here, Vicki cannot do much. So, either way, I feel I will be heading to Seshe's shop. But what will I be asking for, when I arrive? I imagine I will be taking my stock of potions back, either way. They may be useful in a pinch, although I personally wouldn't recommend using them.]]
>>
No. 560005 ID: e9e331

yeah well the potions thing could be useful somewhere down the road so we should try and get that back if we can. Not to worried about an internet contention seeing as we could always just go to a library or internet cafa or anywhere with free wi-fi really to work on that. but as for other things to make money... I once heard of a guy who tried to turn lead into gold, don't work out to well back where he was but is they're some way we could maybe magic something into something more valuable?

Referring to it as a departing present might be good. Heck, she might even have an idea of how we could make some money! You should of course mention that it's either this or resorting to crime to fund your venture. On the other hand maybe she won't appreciate you generating MORE competition for her business. Is there any way you can think of to avoid being her competition?

Hey, has anyone managed to combine magic an technology on one device?
>>
No. 560009 ID: 0b54f4

books not important right now. Hm it seems that you can't understand Vicki and nether can we. Trust us when we say she isn't actually that annoying it's just something is messing with our hearing. Have you tried talking to Vicki at all today or was this the first time you actually talked to her? Cause if this wasn't the first time then I don't think she can hear you, kinda like how we can't really hear her right now.

So how do we go about fixing this.

eh, we just talked to Greeny for a sec, or Victor as he's calling himself. I'll just call him Vic to keep things simple. Anyways he seems to be a part of victor or at least thinks he is. also whenever you talk to him all he hears is that same staticy noise you heard when he ask you to keep your voice down, so try not to talk to much around him as it's kinda of annoying to hear that noise. We're going to have to add that to our list of things to figure out.

Victor has cloned his own mind inside that poor thing, but he can't think properly. Let's call him V-2. He likes warm things because he feels cold, and he likes having Victor-1 around, probably because he feels like he is both people and wants to be able to see himself so he can be himself? That's what I would guess from the way V-2 mimicked Victor-1's movements. His perspective is a bit difficult to understand, obviously.

Like others have said, your voice sounds completely fucked up to him, just like his voice sounds to you. So don't talk while he's nearby, he finds it annoying. Also, while we're in his head, everything is green EXCEPT where his green orb should be. Instead of the orb, there is empty space that we can see right through.

I think it was the other way around, that you might've had questions for Firebeard about why the Dwarves live like they do.

Then again do you really want to talk to someone who tried to kill you twice?

Seriously though do you really need to talk out loud to us? It is annoying V-2. Maybe you should get pen and paper for communication.

so where do dwarfs stand in the world? I mean it seems like the biggest races out there are humans, elves, goblins, and orks. Plus what we saw with how poor the dwarven town looked and with victor saying they don't have any noteworthy cities I can't help but feel like they're near the bottom of the totem pole.

also what are dwarfs know for? I mean goblins seem to be know for they technology and poor manners, humans seem to be know for being expansionist, orks for there violent natures, and elves for being a more magical version of humans.

Also one for you, where did you learn the two magic spells you know now and from who?

There we go! He looks... okay, well, he doesn't have a face so it may just be me but he looks a little more relaxed, at least. Hopefully that helps!

Anyway. So, I'm not a big dwarf expert or anything. I just kinda know the basics that everybody knows... but, basically, like 50 years ago, the dwarves used to be king of hot shit mountain. They totally dominated the industrial revolution, with their steam machines and forges and stuff. But the goblins sort of took their job when they introduced computers and digital stuff. So now everybody goes to the goblins, or steals their patterns off the goblins, or just obsesses over goblin made stuff, and the dwarves kinda get left by the wayside a little bit. They get a bit of business, but there's not the huuuge market for ore mining and dwarven metal any more.

Uhm, and as for my magic? Basically, back in highschool, I had pick one more elective credit. And I qualified for fundamentals of magic, so I thought, y'know, what the hell. Could be fun, right? I failed it pretty bad, but I did manage to master two spells, so whatever.

Okay...
Step 1, consult experienced mage on eye-bleeding.
Step 2, next time we try and read book, keep it to...Maybe like the first 30 or so pages? Depends on how many pages the tome actually has, but the general idea is stick to the easy stuff from now on- no more trying the super-advanced stuff- reaching beyond your abilities is normally fast way for a mage to die, instead of learning things.

How long do dwarves live normally? Oh, tell him you saw a dwarf kid across the street from his house while trying to find him, and he was just sitting in a bare room with some blocks. Is it normal for dwarves to not have any furnishings or toys?

After some talk like that I guess you can go into what happened with the book. You were just trying to learn a spell, it felt like you understood it but then the knowledge just slipped away and your eyes started bleeding. Does he recognize those symptoms? If not, could he just give you some advice on how to generally become better at being a mage? Maybe practicing the spell you can cast will help? I think the issue is..Fire's kinda 1 dimensional to most people. Like...
So you're a mage. You can throw fireballs now. Wait, you wanna MASTER fireballs? Looool!
Dude, you won't be able to stop other people from blasting you.
Instead, why not, say, look into wind magic! throw wind blades around! deflect arrows and projectiles everywhere! Oh, yeah, and there's a little thing you can do with the wind called flying.
Or Water! Again, offensive tricks as well as defensive, and you get to do fun things like instantly rip all the water in someone's body out.
And if you're really paranoid about getting hurt, just go Earth!
I could go on, but that's the general opinion of fire magic I think. It's generally not worth it until you get to the point you can create seas of fire, and even then...That much magical power would be scary no matter WHAT magic you used.

You cloned yourself, in an imperfect form that can't think clearly and hears any speech in an annoying mess of static. When he speaks, the same mess comes out. Also he feels cold so we gave him a blanket. I've been calling him V-2. When we're in his head, the green orb goes perfectly clear and everything outside that space is tinted green. Not that I expect that to make sense to you.

Oh also Vicki tried learning a mind-control whisper spell from the book and basically managed it but at the last moment the knowledge was ripped out of her head. Her eyes started bleeding too. So we're gonna put book study on hold for a while.

well Greeny is claiming to be you or at least a part of you, Vickie managed to read a spell in the book for a split second before she lost it and started bleeding form the eyes, and now she's getting some pointers on magic from Firebeard.

How bout you, anything interesting happen to you since we last spoke?

[[That is all... interesting, news. Vicki bleeding from the eyes, "V-2" blaring out static?... I should mention, as it seems relevant now. Earlier this morning, I attempted to look inside his head, but all I found there was noise. 'Feedback' was the word I used to myself, at the time. I am glad that you can understand him, in any case, although the implications of accidentally creating my own clone- in such a flawed format no less, is... disturbing. Hrrrm. Now might be the perfect time to ice breath. Hopefully whatever it is you put into your fire spell recently will go into your ice spell and cancel it out. [[There you are. You weren't gone long. Went to check in with Vicki, I assume?

Before you tell me anything, you had some questions? I do not know who made off with me. I can, however, assume we are somewhere in the elven lands. The vast majority of forests in the world are owned by them. It is also possible we are on an ork island, but goblins and humans do not seem to tolerate trees for long in their territory. Unfortunately, whether we're infringing on elves or orks, both of their forests are sparsely populated, and without a plan we could be walking for weeks before stumbling on any cities or towns.

I have been talking with Seshe and K'orr while you were away. She believes whoever attacked us was likely either a less savoury competitor wanting to get rid of the competition, or perhaps a slighted customer who she may have insulted. She does not get along well with elves. Of course, she does not get along well with anybody else either. I, personally, do not fully accept either of those explanations, although I do not have any better leads of my own.

In any case. How is Vicki managing? Well, I hope?]]

Before you got blown up she was about to test out her fire-starting spell with Firebeard's supervision. Turns out even Firebeard can't control it enough to keep it contained, so it was slowly spreading. She tried an ice breath spell on the freezer to try to get it to put out more cold, and froze the entire room solid. Now she's trying to get out without setting herself on fire again. Exciting!

Have you tried climbing a tree to get a clearer view? If you can spot any disturbances in the canopy there could be a town there or something.

Alternatively, do you have a way to sense nearby leylines? We just gotta find one of those.

Before we continue... there is one small thing I would like to get out of the way, as I heard one of you ask, and I believe some of you may be labouring under a misconception. My arms were made of vulcanized rubber over a chainlinked metal frame. Built by Seshe here, as a matter of fact, although I take full credit for carving my own mask. In both cases I have no sort of connection to them, I do not know where they could be.

But figuring out where we are is more important then recovering my arms and face right now.]]

What sort of restraints are they? Chains? Smash them between two rocks if so.

If your arms weren't anything special, why are you able to control them and similar things? That sounds like some form of magic that ISN'T random for you. Perhaps you can learn to use that control to channel other sorts of magic?

An alternative is that you could send us above the canopy. You were able to manipulate our point of view once before, why not again?

The Ent city of Inoth' Eao has apparently wandered this way well. In either case, we are not too far, and in fact the ent appears to be headed straight for us.]]

[[That leaves us with three choices, far more then I was expecting. We could head towards the ork megacity, the elven megacity, or we could attempt to find a wandering ork tribe. Now that we know we are in their lands, we can likely wander in any direction and find one soon enough. If they haven't already found us, that is. It's quite likely we're being watched already.]]

actually, they could live anywhere, if the city has a leyline they could come or go through it.

Leylines... well... that's true. There could be a leyline out in this forest somewhere that they used, even. So nevermind. If we went to the Orks I'm sure they'd welcome your group. On the other hand... Victor, races all have different magic, right? Did the magic in the prison seem elven or orkish or human or what? We should avoid whatever race is responsible for that, at least for the time being.

[[Although I am sure that different races leave different magical signatures, I haven't a clue what those signatures could be. I may have been a little lax in learning the theory and background behind magic. It comes easily enough to me that I never especially needed to bother. Perhaps I should fix that in the future.

But for the immediate time being... the consensus seems to be split. I, personally, would like to track down whoever tried to kidnap me, and assuming they were strangers passing through, the elves would be much more hospitable then the orks would be. So, that is who I will head towards. As a boon they should have a tremendous abundance of leylines, since ents have a deep connection with the earth.

The journey will take a half hour or so, so I will relinquish control for now. Take care of Vicki until we speak again.

Please follow me, I will lead you towards Inoth'Eao.]]

"Hello!"

"hello. who Are you?"

"I'm just a messenger. Please don't mind me, I will be gone shortly.

Let me very quickly explain what I can do. Blood magic is the art of life. We can see and manipulate the life around us. I can boil blood in the vein, manipulate a man like a puppet, see a crowd through a ten foot steel wall, and congeal a wound instantly. A little less obvious, but I can also understand any sentient creature with a pulse, and I can open 'doors' in walls, by forcing some life into the wall and then pulling the cement and plaster apart like a wound.

Obviously I am leaning towards the last one, although it will hurt quite a bit and worse, will take a lot of my blood. I would really like to not bleed out and die. Not today at least."

I'm kindof surprised he has a pulse, to be honest. Can you tell why he's cold all the time? Is he perhaps missing a large portion of his blood, from the initial massive head wound?

How big a hole in that door do you need to make? Actually, consider that the edges of the door are premade cracks. If you can use those to start the new door you may be able to get the thing open. Just try not to let the ice grow on you. It spreads by contact. Consider it a hostile force.

Once you have an entrance or even a sizable gap you'll want to somehow warm up the two people in there, again without letting the ice grow on you. There's Victoria and a mostly-sane fire mage dwarf that goes by Firebeard.
>>

well um, we might have a few dead gangster bodies around for you to use but we're not totally sure where they'd be at. Anyways with that blood boiling thing could you maybe just warm someone up with that, you know to stop them from freezing to death cause that may be an issue once you get inside the room. But for the whole force your way in thing, if you can't see through the ice then how would your magic work at forcing the ice open? Also another idea, could you maybe only use a bit of your blood to melt some of the ice into water then spreed your blood throughtout the water and boil that as well so you could just open the blood, I only bring this up cause isn't blood mostly water anyways so if you can just spread enough blood in it even if it's diluted it could still do what you want it to?

"warm
...
thank You"

"You're welcome! That works, then! Smart move, by the way, I would not have thought of using half a charm. I can try it on myself now. But... if the ice spreads? That makes the real problem a little harder. I could use his blood to open a door, he isn't using it. But what if it spreads out to the rest of the house? I believe I could contain it, but it will take a lot of blood. I will need to infuse life into this entire section of the hall.

And, since you asked, using water to dilute blood makes it worthless. I don't really need blood, I need the life inside it.

So! If you have a stockpile of dead corpses somewhere, then we will look for that. Would you like me to transfer you to Victor or Victoria while we get that set up? Or would you like to stick with me?"

First off, tell him that you've just received word that there's help on the way. Secondly, well now that you're not in any huge panic maybe you can ask him about how this is happening at all? I mean I doubt it was the fridge that caused the ice to grow out of control just like the fire. Also, ask him if he thinks he could have eventually gotten the fire under control, because it looked like it was spreading slowly.

I was expecting you two to get hypothermia and pass out, leading to a state of suspended animation. Did you two get frostbitten and Firebeard had to use his magic to heal the both of you? Also, from what we've seen the ice spreads. When you two thawed, what kept the ice from growing on you again?

That's not really the most calming thing to say, though, so I guess say sorry if you haven't, and relay the news about the blood mage showing up. I'd like to clarify that she isn't here to teach you how to send us around, and instead just to give you another tome, but will try to teach you if she has time. "A- a BLOOD MAGE?"

"Wha- I dinnae say anythin' 'bout a blood mage!"

"No! Not you, it's, it's those voices. You know, the guides. Just- just give me a second here."

Okay, so, like, wait up a second... I know you guys don't really know how stuff works here and all, but, uhm, here's a little hint. If something has "Blood" in its name, it's probably not a super great idea to let it in your place! Blood mages are... well, it's not like they're illegal, technically, but nobody really likes them very much. I mean, they're only really good as assassins and murderers and stuff like that, there's only a handful of things they can do that's actually helpful and everybody else can do that stuff better. They're just... they're usually not very good people. I mean, it's not even racism or whatever, because you totally have a choice, and what kind of person is going to choose murder magic?

But, let me guess, she's part of a church, right! She's gotta be totally charitable and stuff! That's kinda the really bad part... like, I'd be willing to give her a chance. But let me give you a quick little rundown of the gods, just super quick. So you've got Heron, god of water, air and knowledge, and Hammersong, goddess of fire, earth and workmanship. You got the Queen of Dreams, goddess of dreams, life and charity, and the Dreamstealer, god of nightmares, theft and death. And finally, the- the kind of 'top gods', sort of, the most powerful two are A.A.E., goddess of machines, order and duty, and Lord Baron, god of magic, chaos and 'pleasure'.

There's only two of those that could possibly ever want anything to do with a blood mage, and I really, really don't want to get tangled up with either of them! The Dreamstealer kills everybody he meets, and Lord Baron fucks you up hard, and THEN he kills you! And even if he doesn't kill you, even if for whatever reason he's actually telling the truth for once, then! Then! Then you get carpet bombed by a fleet of remote drones in the middle of the night, because A.A.E. hates anybody who is even sort of remotely related to him in the tiniest little itty bitty fucking way!

Can you, just, like... go back and tell her to get out or something? Because this is so not going to end well...
>>
No. 566152 ID: 53ba34

if A.A.E. destroys every person that is tangentially involved with lord baron then he would have literally no followers. how would this blood mage work for him and not have been destroyed? simple, propaganda. A.A.E. SAYS she will destroy everyone in order to scare them into listening. make a big deal out of every win, and play down all your losses. and you sound a lot more dangerous then you really are.

basically, being new in town, we haven't heard any of the flim-flammery the gods spew about. and thus take everything on a personally level.

also mage lady has another of The Books. and was told to give it to you. i dunno about you, but like the idea of having TWO of the ultimate magic books.

I see...Hrrm.
This is worrisome. Lord Baron being interested in us, specifically us achieving more power, and finding us like that means we might need some help if we're to turn him down...
How well might A.A.E respond if we were to go to him for protection or something? Because if we're already going to be hated by A.A.E, then we might not really have a choice in the matter.
>>

Now I know you have some preconceived notions about Blood mages and some of the gods. Heck some or most of them might even be true.

But you are currently living in a mansion you stole from some gangsters that are all lying murdered in the basement. Also your new friend is a corpse with a green orb for a head.

We do not want you to get hurt but you made the choice to step into the world of magic. And it gets crazy here. A blood mage cultist is sort of par for the course for us. We get called up to help all kinds of people and we try not to judge anyone unless they mess with our masters.

Plus if she is here to give you a book on presumably blood magic that means her patron thinks you are going to be something big eventually and he wants in on the ground floor. You do not have to go learn blood magic and start exploding people from the inside but this is sort of what you wanted when you bought that book. Once you have the power you get to decide how to use it.

I would like to point out that, at least from your description, the Queen of Dreams (having jurisdiction over "life") might be considered a reasonable candidate, since "Blood Magic" seems strongly tied to the concept of "life", particularly given some of the spells she's described to us.

"Well, fuck! I guess as long as those tits are big, everything is A-OK!"

"Aye, lass... yeh're nothin' to scoff at bu-"

"Not me! For fucks sake, did I say that out loud? It's- it's the guides, they're saying there's a blood mage outside-"

"-tha' has big tits? Well... tha' changes everythin'..."

"Oh for-...!"

Is everybody else crazy? Am I the only one who's upset by a FUCKING BLOOD MAGE barging into our house?

Okay. Fine. So if she's going around saying "lord" then it's definitely Lord Baron. None of the others are really pompous enough to use titles like that. I... I guess I don't want to piss him off, so I'll accept whatever he wants to give me. But I seriously don't like anything about this.

I guess the only other question is, what should we be doing? Firebeard's shown that his fire can hold off the ice and cut through the cold a bit, so, I guess.. move the fire beside the door? I kind of don't want to have her crazy magic blowing up against his fire magic or something, but... I don't know. I don't really want to die in here either, so, what can we do to help? I've been practicing a little and I may be able to help him maintain a second fire, but, like... I also don't really want to set the house on fire again.
>>

how bout you ask firebeard about your powers then, I mean if you damn near burned down the house trying to heat up some coffee he had to notice something about your magic. It might help you control your powers a bit, or at the very least let you choose when to blow shit up.

Moving it over to the door would be good. She's going to use the blood in Victor's pile of corpses to turn the hallway "alive" so she can open the door without the ice spreading throughout the rest of the building. If the ice is melted near the door then we can get out of here without having to cross the ice.

You do not have to make friends with the blood mage. Just be polite and accept her help. You will not get far if you get flustered every time someone dangerous shows up.

Also offending powerful people just because you disprove of there lifestyle is never a smart idea. Once you get some power yourself you can pick and choose. But right now you are in a dangerous place. You have just enough power to kill yourself and all your friends but no way to control it.

Also the opportunity to learn some blood magic is a good thing. Magic is all about what you use it for. You do not have to go around boiling peoples blood for fun. There should be plenty of other constructive uses for it.

building on that! The same blood boiling charm that can so easily kill can also be used to protect from the cold!
Honestly? This particular guide agrees-this doesn't seem good. And now that I think on it, we might be able to foil Lord's scheme by running to A.A.E with this once Lord Baron's blood mage isn't around.

She's going to turn the hallway alive?! I- oh, for fucks... okay. Fine. Whatever, if it'll work I guess...

So, uhm... one of you was saying I should run to A.A.E. with all this. Honestly, A.A.E. really isn't much better. Like, let me put it this way- she used to be a goblin before she was a god. So, you know, she's got all of their charming qualities on top of her godly egomania. She'll be totally honest and straightforward with you, if you make a deal with her you can be 100% sure she'll keep it. But, it's like, usually her deals are more along the lines of "if you don't worship me unquestioningly for the rest of your life I'll rip out your spinal cord and strangle you with it." or "I'll give you this perpetual motion machine but you better convert two thousand to me by next week or I'll slaughter your boyfriend and your parents and everybody who's ever met you ever. And THEN I'll choke you with your own spine.".

I really don't want to get involved in this whole thing because it's really, really fucking stupid and brutal and violent. Their followers on both sides get killed all the time. Stupid people keep getting involved with it though because Baron can make you better at magic and A.A.E. can make you smarter, on top of all the other stuff any god could give you. Plus A.A.E. is the only goblin god so practically all of them are worshippers of her just by default.

I guess we really don't have a choice about being in this war though. He's kinda already singled me out, so... whatever. If this blood mage has a tome for me, I guess I'll take it. But I was just starting to get my head wrapped around the 'school' thing, and now we're getting involved in some kind of war..? ...I am such an idiot for starting all this shit.

And I'm still not happy with the hallway outside being alive. Like, not at all.

>>566295
At least we got something out of all this. A little bit of information, huh? So he's definitely dead. I kinda guessed that, I mean, he's got this big gaping headwound and all... but it's good to know for sure.

I'm sorry. It's not that I don't care or that I'm ignoring you or whatever, I've just got... stuff on my mind right now.

"Uhm... Firebeard? So, uhm, since you saw my magic and all.. do you have any idea why it went all haywire and crazy like that?"

"Nae, lass. Whate're yeh did, it ain't real fire magic. Nothin' like anythin' Ah'd ever seen. Dinnae feel righ'."

"Well... can I still try and learn real fire magic from you?"

"...Aye, but we're doin' it ou' in tha' open next time."

Okay, so, this is where we put the fire before. Trying to unfreeze the door was pretty much the first thing we did. We moved up to the table afterward because it was a little more elevated and I felt a little claustrophobic and trapped down here.

The door was totally jammed.... nnngg!! Yeah... it still is. I think the ice got into the mechanism stuff inside. Goblins can't just make, like, a super-simple sliding door, it's just a waste if they don't stuff at least four thousand gears and wires in there just because.

Apparently he is completely unable to help because of rules beyond his control and he can't get anyone to help either. Those not of the races of man cannot enter the city under any circumstances. The best we could get is some beds for an overnight rest, but you'd have to leave in the morning.

We might be able to get Vicky over here to help, but I'm not sure what she'd be able to accomplish.

As for the current situation, I guess you could force him to open the door but we don't know where the leylines are in here and the guards will swarm you. Seems like a bad idea, and the best plan I have right now is just to wait until the ent wanders near an outdoor leyline by chance and hop off to use it. You left out the part about the leylines being closed.

Well, I see three options here:
1, try to blockade the door until morning so the guards can't get to us.
2, try to convince the doorman to stop trying to call the guards because seriously you won't cause any more trouble.
3, destroy the controls on whatever thing the doorman has so that he can't actually call the guards, and hope nobody can tell the controls are busted until morning.

Actually, we could do 3 and then 2, and if that fails, we fall back to 1.

And the laylines are down both here and in the orc city as they shut them down every night, that might also be something to mention.

This here is why you should never act under anger UNTIL you thought things through, that way you can go nuts with any worries.

As for what to do... the best I can think of is to get both of them out of sight but I don't think that's going to work to well as the line has been crossed and short of you sending us back to him I don't know how we can talk him down... but then that leaves you in the dark but that's the best I got.

[[Before we commit to blockading the doors and digging ourselves deeper into this mess, are you sure this is a wise decision? The guardsman has already made the call and gone into hiding, so we cannot stop it before it begins... but we could simply allow the police to take us. I can't imagine us being detained for more then a day or two.

Although... perhaps it will be longer. I do not know much about the elves or their relationship with other races, like goblins and orcs. Or the level of corruption in their legal system. Or, now that I'm thinking about it, perhaps they will try and use the opportunity to enslave me- Anelyds are quite rare and valuable; we live deep underground, and we can be used to greatly amplify magic. I don't know if their system will consider me legally sentient and thus with rights. Or for that matter, if they give rights to anybody. Maybe their punishment for touching a doorman is immediate beheading. Maybe they simply lynch anybody who causes any trouble, no matter how minor. Possibly they never agreed to the system of jails and courtrooms in the first place.

Goddamn it! This whole thing was exactly the sort of situation I was hoping to avoid!]]

[[So here we are. Back out in the woods. Not an optimal situation.

We have blankets, and the ground is soft enough to sleep on. I can provide light and heat. The only thing we need, and it is absolutely necessary, is protection. Uncivilized orcs are not pleasant- even if we have an orc with us, they will not be hospitable. In fact, the presence of K'orr may enrage them further. They dislike their civilized brothers. As well as weakness. A scarred and wounded orc would be seen as almost an insult to the species and grounds for immediate execution, or so I am told.

All three of us are exhausted, I doubt anybody can be trusted to stay up and keep watch. Seshe can set up traps and defences, but her hands are still encased in metal balls. We were planning to have them removed tomorrow in the elf city, but with this new turn in development, we need the use of her hands immediately.

I cannot 'magic' the cuffs off without burning or damaging her hands, and K'orr cannot smash it off, as he did his own, without breaking her fingers. Our only potential tool is K'orr's shoulderpad, which is extremely heavy and durable. Although it is essential we do not break it, as it is designed to inject him with painkillers and other assorted life sustaining drugs. The horns were his own decoration and can be removed. If you are wondering, his mask is 'welded' to his face and cannot be taken off, as he and Seshe tell me.

So, to reiterate. We must remove the metal balls from Seshe's hands so that she can protect us. We should hopefully get this done soon. Once we have that cleared up, I can relinquish you for the night and meet up with you again tomorrow.]]

Do the balls have seams? If so:
1) Find a pair of stones thicker than Seshe's hands but thinner than the spheres
2) Find a flat stone surface, and a large flat slab
3) Place a sphere on the flat surface, with the two stones on either side of the sphere
4) Place the slab on top
5) Have Seshe flatten her hand inside the sphere
6) K'orr presses down on the slab.
The sphere will hopefully pop open at the seams, and the smaller rocks will prevent the slab crushing Seshe's hand.
>>
No. 569786 ID: e632fb

Hrrrm...The decorative horns is a plus, but that turns into hit one against the other and hope the impact that breaks the balls doesn't injure Seshe, and that seems about as feasible as you trying to magic them off...
Would somehow 'magicing' the horns to have a particular effect be a possibility? I figure if we could, say, teleport those cuffs a good distance away that alone would do the trick.
Alternatively...We could try and have Seshe advise as you or K'orr make the traps, but that I think is only to be attempted if something goes wrong with our previous methods.

How are her hands positioned? Is it solid metal that has been encased around her fingers, or are her hands clenched inside a hollow?

Also you can make the metal expand by heating it up. Any expansion will be minor.

If your friend's teeth is strong enough, perhaps they can chew them off. Other than that.. if you could warp a chain into a razor and then heat it, it could possibly be used to shave the spheres.

So we've got a horn of growth, a horn of create life, and a horn of... I can't tell what those things are on the last tree. Mushrooms?

Well the good news is that you can use this method of identification to produce enchanted items that can be sold as having a somewhat predictable effect. Instead of potions, we could make, I don't know, enchanted balls? You could even still have it be a gamble by having the balls be cheap but the labels for them expensive. Wait, are items enchanted like this safe to handle? Would you have to wear anti-magic gloves or something?

The horn that turned the tree fleshy might still work for this problem, because flesh is a hell of a lot easier to break than metal.
>>
No. 570524 ID: 53ba34

you can also lose your chain. have each link be broken open and enchant those.
>>
No. 570527 ID: 5bbbc0

*thinks* Well if we can just enchant ANYTHING then why not just break off some branches from the growth tree, enchant those and test em on each other until we get what we want. (Don't wanna mess with the mutoid or spheres trees unless we have too!)
However...Of the effects we have...Depending on what exactly those spheres are we MIGHT be able to use that horn to make the spheres easier to remove.
Growth I doubt would be useful on metal...Or it would be and Seshe's hands would be squished, given how chaotic that magic seems to have worked on the tree, there's no garuntee it'd not just grow random bulges and spikes instead of just getting bigger to say, sized for Korr and easy for Seshe to remove her hands from.
Life one...Maaaaybe less risky? I just have this feeling where we use it and then the spheres turn into something with teeth that then bite off Seshe's hands. Besides, I don't really see how that would help as far as getting them off, aside from making them more likely to deform off BEFORE Seshe's hands get broken from Korr pulling them off.
The Sphere magic is our best bet-seems to have made the smallest amount of change to the tree, and it mostly riddled it with those spheres that look like they are only still in the tree via being too far lodged in to roll out- I'm HOPING that if that magic was done on the spheres Seshe's hands wouldn't be effected...And the transmuted Spheres would be removable, hopefully a few in a place that could let Seshe remove her hands.

I'd try the Horn of Stuff to Flesh, probably, unless you wanted to enchant a bunch of rocks or something. I can't actually tell what the last one did, but it seems like having your hands stuck in balls of meat is way easier to fix than having your hands stuck in balls of metal.

As mentioned, do you know of a way to safely handle thus magicked items? Like, could you enchant one end of a stick and not the other? You might make a pretty crazy weapon like that, which perhaps one of the others could use, or could be used in a trap, or something.

well if anyone is chasing us then they're bound to have the crap scared out of them if they come here. but as for the goblin's restraints... yeah I would think the flesh one might actually be easier to slip out of but I'm not sure if it would just effect her restraints or all of her so I'm a bit worried. good way to test this is to grab a rock or something place it against a tree and then press the horn against the rock. If it only effects the rock then we're probably good to try it on the restraints, if it messes with the rock and tree then shit.

As for Vicki she is a bit apprehensive about blood mages. Have tried to convince her that there are plenty of neat applications of the art but you know how it goes.

"Don't cut out the whole thing, go right down the- there, you got it!"

I wanted to mention something about Greenie - I've told you that his body is dead. Completely. I am surprised rigor mortis hasn't set in yet, but unless Victor has discovered an entirely new branch of magic, whatever mix of spells created him can't preserve his body forever. Eventually he'll start to stink, and rot, and then he'll be gone. And if I had to guess, I don't think his body can last longer then, say, a month.

There is one way to preserve a body, and it just so happens to fall into my branch of magic. But... let me describe the rune I know. It will turn the blood in his veins into dust and render him completely dry and dessicated. My Lord tells me that in your world, there are creatures called 'mummies' that look very similar. He won't be able to move or act in any way until I cut in the reverse rune. Then he comes back, perfectly preserved. That is the only way I know of to keep a body from decaying.

Since I don't think he wants to be kept in one place for the rest of his existance, unable to move even a single muscle, he needs something else. I don't really know what, is the thing.
>>
No. 572229 ID: ca65e6

>>572226
As it happens, Victor knows how to move objects close to his body. If you preserve his body like that he may still be able to move it. Alternatively he could just make himself an artificial body for when the corpse decays. What I'm more concerned about is how he will perceive his "body" rotting or being preserved. He feels cold when the body is cold, so what happens when it's injured or decays or is mummified? Also, does he even need the body?

Ask him if he could perceive temperature and such through his artificial arms when he had them. Also if he's willing to experiment with removing the orb from the head it's placed in.

But you may wish to find an audience with Heron, the god of Air, Water and Knowledge. He is the best water mage in the world, as well as the world's leading expert on attempting to merge technology and magic. Seshe got pissed off and tried to have K'orr take the doorman hostage to get in but we disagreed with that plan and had to ditch the city before more guards came. Euuugh! Okay, see? This is exactly the kind of shit that makes people dislike blood mages. Is it, like, alive? Are we hurting it?... I don't even know where to start thinking about this.

And she's supposed to be staying?... I guess there's not much I can do about that, if she's backed up by Lord Baron, the god of 'fuck you I'll do what I want'. I'm still not happy about it, though.

"Good evening, Firebeard! My Lord has been watching you for many years. You are one of his favourite mages in the world! And I really mean it."

"Am I, now? Not sure wha' Ah think about tha'. Depends on who this 'lord' o'yers is. Not sure I'm likin' the idea o' bein' watched all tha' much."

Okay. A moment ago, he was practically drowning in his own saliva at the thought of this mage and her tits. I was sort of expecting him to, like, just jump at her and latch on, or something. And now... well, look at him. All shifty and mistrustful and weird. He's so... he's just weird. All paranoid psychotic one moment, and then fairly cool and easygoing the next, and some kinda pervert the moment after. And then right back to paranoid psychotic again? I don't think I like him very much.

But, uhm, that's not what I should be worrying about right now, huh? Sorry, I ramble sometimes. I guess I should thank the blood girl.

"Uhm. Miss Blood Mage? Thank you for letting us out. I really do appreciate it."

"It was my pleasure, Miss Victoria! And I have more to give you! I assume you're talking with the guides, given your blank stare and pauses. When you are finished, I would like to discuss some magic theory with you. And, of course, I need to give you my tome!"

Ugh. I so don't want to learn blood magic, guys. But... I guess I'll listen to her. See what there is to see, at least.

So... busy day today. Not so much with me, I was stuck in the ice mostly. But... we gotta do something about V-2's body apparently, Victor needs to find a way home, she's bringing the second most violent god over to our house. I got magic to learn, and we still need to pack this place up. I've been thinking, and I'm kinda getting the idea that we're gonna be right in the middle of a big crossfire between Lord Baron and A.A.E., and I'd really prefer to have a bunch of strong magic friends around if it comes to that.

But I guess there's not a whole lot we can do about anything right now. Uhm, tell me if there's anything else you need. Otherwise, I guess this is good night for now, huh?

I don't get a lot of contact with the outside world. The only other people I see are visitors to my Lord, who rarely speak with me. So I haven't exactly needed it... but thinking about it, I actually really like the idea of having a name again. Would you like to give me one?

Wait, how does Lord Baron not have any other servants? Is he losing the war against A.A.E.? Or is a Servant a special position?

As for the name, how about Chelsea?

Sanuna?
Sanguine, and uno, your specialty, and your rank.
Or maybe Sangudosa?
Sanuna
Sangudosa, these are the names this guide offers.

I'm not a fancy girl. I do like "Sanguine", but I'm just a servant, not anybody of importance. I think I should have a nice, humble name, don't you?

I... I really don't want to talk about it. My Lord has... it isn't anything to do with A.A.E., I will say that.

It doesn't matter. He will have many new servants soon.

Ava... Ava. Hmm. It reminds me of something. Was my old name an 'A' name? Andrea? Alex? Amber?... I don't like my past, and I prefer where I am now. But sometimes it's nice to keep hold on a few old memories. I think I'll take Ava.

Thank you, everyone! It is getting very late now, and there are still things to do. So, good night to you all! I am excited to have you meet my Lord tomorrow!
