With the prologue done, I figure it's time to make this.

General quest discussion, speculation, Q&A, shitposting, etc.

Just like another quest here, Puruu Quest takes place in the setting of Primordial Evo. No prior knowledge of the setting needed, but here's a link for those curious about it: https://1d4chan.org/wiki/Primordial_Evolution_Game

Woo! finally a disthread!

So yeah, let's start with the Puruu physiology, then, eh? Do explain to us how Puruus operate on a biological level, NT.

To understand Puruus, we need to start with a tiny creature called a Runu.

Runu are microscopic, jellyfish like creatures that are invisible to the naked eye. What makes these microorganisms special is that they form highly sophisticated colonies that behave like a single, larger creature.

Puruus are the most complex of all runu colony forms. The individual organisms become highly specialized, undergoing a metamorphosis that converts most of the cells of their bodies into a single tissue type.

Different runu species form different types of puruu. Our focus here will be on the Climbing Puruu, also known as the Sapient Puruu. This type of Puruu appears to be a bipedal creature with six additional limbs (four arms, tail, and tongue). They have a semi-open circulatory system with a few chambers in their torsos that act as simple single-chamber hearts. While one does have a single large lung, much of their respiration can be done through their skin, so long as it is kept moist. A puruu's skin also handles the function of kidneys, causing them to sweat out bodily wastes.

Their digestive system is a simple digestive cavity. Nutrients are absorbed directly into their hemolymph through the cavity lining, and transported throughout the body. Solid waste is regurgitated, typically into designated pools of still water. This regurgitation is vital in the formation of new colonies. Lumps of tissue get dislodged from the esophagus as "eggs." These Puruu eggs are both reproductive organs and embryos. When formed, they contain a large number of female gametes (egg cells). Once a large percentage of them are fertilized, reproduction-specialized runu will begin to release sperm into the spawning pool. After some time, a mature Puruu will swallow an egg, depositing it into a pouch connected to the esophagus. Here, the egg is provided with nutrients as it develops into an infant puruu.
A Puruu reaches maturity in its late teens, but will continue to grow throughout its life at a decreasing rate, reaching a standstill point between the ages of 180 to 220 years. If not for non-reproducing runus such as those that make up brain tissue, a puruu could hypothetically live indefinitely.

Often times, a fertilized egg will not get the chance to develop into a new colony. Instead, they will be mashed into a medical ointment to speed the healing of wounds. Puruus are able to withstand and recover from injuries that would normally be fatal to a proper animal, and will regenerate lost limbs in the time-span of weeks.

One last thing, Puruus are highly venomous. Their tongues are covered in nematocysts to deliver their paralytic venom into the bloodstream of prey or predators. It's worth noting that their bloodstream contains their venom too, which is also dangerous for a number of creatures to ingest. Technically that makes it also a poison.

Of course Indonesian Gentleman already knows a lot of this.

Brain injury, bleedout, drying out, non-puruu poisons, burning, extended separation of the head from the shoulders, etc.

The prologue + Ch1 opening was mostly an """""attempt""""" to show how resilient puruus are to injury. Originally, the quest was going to start after the attack.

>that tongue punch surprised me :V
It was a great suggestion. There was no way I couldn't try to work that one in.

Puruus are generally more resistant to dying from smaller injuries in the short term. This is due to having access to runus that can speed up the healing process and allow stabilization from severe injuries, and the puruus unique biology just being hard to permanent damage since they can regrow many parts of their body. However, puruus are tiny, like three feet tall by the time they're twenty, so they're terrible at fighting outside of their homelands or advantageous situations, such as underwater (in freshwater bodies). They're generally 1'6, so they're not really threatening to anything sentient that is bigger than them.

The surest way to kill a puruu is destruction of the brain, or keeping them in an environment they're totally unsuited for, without freshwater. Puruu weaken and expire very easily without access to freshwater. Keeping a puruu from access to runus will also impair them in the long term, since they rely on runus to heal their unique bodies. Sure death for a puruu would be facing a foe larger than them, in an arid environment, far, far away from home.

The best way to approach a puruu in combat is to treat them like a toddler so hopped up on adrenaline they'll never give up even if they're bleeding all over the place. You gotta impair their physical ability to move at all, or destroy a vital organ completely to keep a puruu down.

Poisoning a pool of runus or a puruus supply of water will also kill them very quickly

If a puruu is 3 feet tall, it would be well over a century old. Rest of that seems to be pretty accurate.

I was hoping to reveal how small puruus really are later on, but oh well.

Love that picture.
Especially the fact that the geist professor has glasses despite his race being entirely blind and "seeing" trough echolocation.
Maybe he views glasses as just an item of the appropriate attire a professor should have.

instead of glasses his kind just wears two tuning forks strapped to their head that help them "see". Used whenever one of their race can't make the right pitched sounds that they normally make to "see" or when they have an underdeveloped "ear" (not sure what you call the organ that let's them echo lactate).

I don't know why I typed that, the thought just came to me and I went with it.

Yeah. It's not like a guard in a jungle tribe of puruus would know a single thing about ancient nanomachine monsters created by aliens thousands of years ago. We don't even have a timeframe yet, so this could be well before the Black Ramel War or even the formation of the Enclave. I'd put the amulet down as bordtech washed up on the seashore, till it got traded into our tribes predecessors.

Blung field near the tribe is scary as shit though. Given a few days they'll show up in the village, and when the spread some blungfield into the spawning pools they'll be basically tainted and useless, and the village is doomed.

Probably, considering how they brew mead among other things. There is a species of bug that does produce honey. However it a bad idea to consume it as-is. Some sort of processing, such as fermentation, is needed to break down the poison they infuse it with. It causes inflammation of the mouth, esophagus, and stomach.

Little things involving the Thigh Day pic. There's a tribe of Puruus called the Ruufaya that also lives in the jungle. They're pink rather than blue due to the rare strain of runu that make up their bodies. The clothing depicted is made from the skin of Titan Lubs.

Titan Lubs are massive, photosynthetic, jellyfish-like creatures. In a way, they resemble the missing link between early plants and early animals in this world.

Would that make you the person who went by the name "the obsessive faggot who made the frowgs what they are?"

Not sure if you were around at the time, but the origins of the Vyrii have been changed some time after it was determined that Bords could not be the descendants of any creatures currently on the planet. Rather than macroviruses, vyrii are now constructs made of degenerate bord nanomachines.

Honestly I wanted that to be their origin but I didn't wanna be "that guy" and go full tilt into the extra terrestrial. Rogue nanites that evolved into silicon based life is fine by me and hardly changes the final product, for what little that means at this point after so many years.

I saw some concept art of vyrii reproducing by infecting other lifeforms and viciously exploding from within akin to real virus reproduction, which also was within my personal intent.

I couldn't afford to keep up with the threads so after a few days, much to my original disappointment and now newfound amusement looking back at it all.

Great Vyrii war was bitter for all involved. Enduring rage can be felt from the base deep zero all the way to the bones of the black ramel. A single great threat was shattered, to create a thousand small ones. At least a few of them turned out to be allies, though the crestlanders may find them suspect even many generations later.
