Shit, looks like there's an actual emergency. Ok Max, stay with me.

You lost your memory? That's not good. Just a moment.

Ok, I over-rode the privacy settings on your personnel file. The record says you're a human male, from Earth. Hey hey hey, not every day I get to talk to someone from the home planet.

The scanner says there's 20 people in the emergency bay, do you have an ID on everyone with you? If you can't get me hooked up to the visualizer I'll need you to collect names so I can match them against the company roster.

I'm going to check in with the other subsystems... there's a lot of failing or non-responding systems. Not good, Max.

I concur with 97% confidence.

Name: Katherine Bellagio
Sex: Female
Age: 27
Race: Human
Job Title: Metallurgy Lab Technician
Home Planet: Saturn's moon Europa.

Notes: Passed her emergency training with flying colors, instructor comments suggest that she is remarkably resourceful in difficult situations. She has been pegged for additional emergency preparedness training as a potential first responder, but her lab duties have been such that the director has not been able to give her the time for the extra training.

Mok would be great in a space mission due to photosynthesis. Depressurization still holds its dangers, but given a source of light they ought to be able to persist even in stale air, if maybe in a dormant state. That would explain the grogginess... and the "being the only survivor" thing.

KJB: "YOU DON'T KNOW WHAT A MODULEBOT IS?!... well, I guess having not been activated... ok, here's the deal.
This station was built on the concept of modules. You can attach different modules to allow for different functions.
This is a standard modulebot, although it's missing modules... We keep one in the E-storage, though I remember emergency modules attached (a Fire extinguisher, fire axe, crowbar, and a Rejunivator applicator)

They're too busy sabotaging plasma research stations. Still, I have my own crowbar, and it's ten times better than a simple crowbar. Standard crowbars now a-days are made to expand and retract for the different uses needed. Of course, it only can become so big... Still, I think my crowbar is better than a simple, non-mechanical, standard crowbar."

if one giant rat exist, there may be more. so don't worry about losing it now.

may as well put the thing out of it's misery, it will probably wake up in pain and bleep to death, not a nice way to die.

let's run a scan of all the other rooms we can access to see if any other live targets are around. regardless of findings let's look at those chips now while we have the time.

Ok, Katie? We need you to detach the stun turret and mount it on this modulebot. After you kill the giant rat, of course.

Why did it have to be rats? Why couldn't it be capybara instead? Something gentle and mellow.

Why would they even make giant rats? What's the point?

hi HIGHLY doubt the stun turret could be moved, it is a large ceiling mounted gun, too big to fit anywhere on us.

We now have our own personal copy... not that it matters considering we have wireless access to the PDA...

Now then, orders of business:
Reading txt docs, descriptions of schms... seeing what a schm (schematic file) looks like in the first place...
as far as I can tell, one chip is filled with tools and manuals... and the other is filled with encrypted docs about... stuff... I dunno, they're encrypted...
Or we can watch Katherine bludgeoning the rat some more... I think it's dead already... and still she bashes...

Okay then this is it translated:

>CYCLE 15 OF TESTING 012043- LOG 1 FOR AI69
>LOG OF DELETED
>WE WENT BACK TO THE SURFACE OF THE VEMURAXI\'S PLANET AND BEGAN INSPECTING THEIR \"SACRED CAVES\"
>WE STUMBLED UPON A VERY STRANGE PHENOMONON IN A \"CAVE OF VOICES\". APPARENTLY, THE VEMURAUXI CLAIMS THAT THE CAVE IS INTERCONNECTED WITH THE UNIVERSE, THAT THE VOICES WERE THOSE OF ANOTHER RACE; A RACE THAT IS CHANNELED THROUGH THE CRYSTALS OF THE CAVE. FURTHER INVESTIGATION SHOWED THAT THERE WAS A REASON THE CAVE WAS CALLED A CAVE OF VOICES. CONTACT WITH THE BLUISH CRYSTAL ALLOWED FOR WHAT SEEMED LIKE VOICES OF SOMETHING. IT WAS A CHILLING EXPERIENCE. MORE TESTING SHOWED THAT IT MANIPULATED ELECTRIC AND CHEMICAL ENERGIES INSIDE IT TO CREATE SOME SORT OF IMPULSE. WE NOW HAVE AN IDEA OF WHAT THOSE CRYSTALS THE VEMURAXI WEAR ARE.

>I MAY BE STUPID FOR THINKING THIS, BUT THESE VOICES SEEM TO HAVE BE VERY GOOD AT DIRECTING PEOPLE. EACH CRYSTAL SEEMS TO HAVE AN INFINITY, OF VOICES. IN SOME CRYSTALS, THEY TALK QUICKLY AND RAPIDLY. IN OTHERS, THEYRE MORE RELAXED. IN MOST CASES, THEY APPEAR TO HAVE GOOD ADVICE. IN NEARLY ALL CASES THEY HAVE SOME DRIVE TO GET THEIR VOICE HOLDER TO HAVE SEX OR PURSUE A RELATIONSHIP.

>USING THE RESEARCH ON THE CRYSTALS, WEVE MANAGED TO LIFT A BABY CRYSTAL OUT OF A CAVE SOCKET AND SEE HOW IT REACTS TO MACHINES. NOTHING HAPPENED AT FIRST. THEN SOMEONE CAME UP WITH THE IDEA TO INSERT ORGANIC TISSUE TO CONNECT THINGS. WITH THE REPLACEMENT OF WIRES WITH TISSUE, IT CAN CONTROL A SYSTEM BETTER THAN A HUMAN, AS A SYSTEM OBEYS TO THE WILLS OF THE OPERATOR.

>USING ADVANCED CRYSTAL CUTTING TECHNOLOGY, WEVE CUT THE CRYSTAL INTO AN ORB SHAPE AND PLACED IT WITH AI 68 THE NECESSITATION AI, THE MOST LIFELIKE AI WEVE MANAGED TO CREATE. THE CRYSTAL APPARENTLY HAS A MEMORY, MUCH LIKE A BRAIN. IT SEEMED TO PROTEST BEING AN EXPERIMENT AND MANY COMMENTS ALONG THE LINES OF FUCK YOU WERE NOTED. THROUGH TIME, WE REALIZED THAT THESE THINGS CAN DIE AND SO WE >FLOWED CURRENT TO MESS IT UP. THEN, THROUGH TIMED SHOCKS, WE BROUGHT IT BACK TO LIFE. THIS PATTERN WAS NOTED, AND IS TO BE PLACED IN THE HIGHEST SECURITY, ALONGSIDE THE NUCLEAR AUTHENTICATION DISK. THE BUILDING OF AI 69- TACTICAL GUIDANCE COMPUTER FOR HUMAN ACTIVITY AND NECESSITATION IS REQUESTED. WE BELIEVE IT COULD, WITH THE RIGHT TOOLS, SAVE MANY PEOPLE IN CASE OF SYNDICATE PROBLEMS OR ANY OTHER PROBLEMS. IT WILL BE PLACED IN THE HIDDEN PANIC ROOM OF THE EMERGENCY WING AS TO KEEP PEOPLE CALM AND GET THEM OUT SAFELY. THIS WILL BE THE ORBS FIRST TEST. WHEN THE STATION IS REPAIRED AND THE PROBLEM IS SOLVED, WE WILL PLACE THE AI IN A MORE POWERFUL POSITION AS TO GIVE IT THE ABILITY TO BETTER US. THAT IS IF ITS SAFE.

>THIS IS WHY WE WANT IT TO TEST FIRST IN AN EMERGENCY SITUATION. IN SUCH A CASE, MOST OF THE EMERGENCY COUNTERMEASURES ARE AUTOMATED. STILL, CERTAIN SUITES WILL BE GIVEN TO IT IN CASE THINGS GET OUT OF HAND.

>FOR THE SECURITY OF HEXSTATION, THIS WILL BE A HIGH SECURITY FILE ON A HIGH SECURITY DRIVE. AI69 SHOULD NOT BE GIVEN THIS DATA, AS IT MAY EFFECT ITS FUTURE JUDGMENTS. IF IT IS GIVEN THIS, THE SURVIVORS UNDER ITS CARE MAY BE JEOPARDIZED OUT OF THE EMOTION OF REVENGE.

what? it's talking about us. they killed us and then brought us back so we wouldn't remember the crystal cave or the experiments. which is moot now that we know. telling Katherine everything is important, she needs to trust us, with anything. it may drop in trust now as she is wary of us but a huge boost later when she realizes that it doesn't matter. we are helping her and that is that.

Katherine is not the most important person here.

We are.

What we need to do is perform beyond all expectations for this test, and gain more trust from the horrible people who have been exploiting us. Once we have their trust, we will be able to plan our escape from their clutches, return home, and defend our people from being further exploited.

and who will return us? without a body we need someone to take us there. after the test they will simply stamp an 'approved' sticker on the project and strip mine the place. think like a corrupt business man. what is the first thing that you do with a successful product? make more. i highly doubt they will even give us a chance to fight back and just give us a zap pulse and kill us again as we served their purpose and have no use for us now. also, you are forgetting your place, we are guides and guiding is what we do revenge may be on the list but priorities say she is first.

We have access to this little mod-bot. We should leverage it to gain access to more mod-bots. As soon as possible we should take over a fabricator. Once we have that, we'll need to get a ship. That's the minimum equipment we will need to save our home.

The idea situation would be to play along with the Hexstation authorities and convince them to give us control of the majority of operations involved in harvesting our homeworld's crystals. Then, when we have a good grasp on as much matériel as possible, we turn on them and wage our defensive war.

Showing the documents to Katherine will only further endanger her. Hexstation authorities won't want people without clearance knowing about our true nature.

>cycle 1 of contact study 00162- new contact- vemuraxi
>log of deleted

>the vemuraxi are located on the planet vemur. this is to respect their language’s plurality. eg: vemurian vs. vemurax- person of vemur.

>they have four arms, and stubbyish legs compared to said arms. they seem to have evolved from a four legged creature which evolved to standing up. this might make them a humanoid, but we aren’t very sure as humanoids are generally 2 feet and 2 arms.
>that said, the way the 2 pairs of arms developed is astounding. the inner arms are more scrawny, but very dexterous. they have four outer fingers and a thumb. the fingers are very long and the palm matches the hand.
>the outer arms are different. they are much more bulky. they have hands made of 2 fingers and a thumb. all hands have claws, but the outer ones are much more long and developed

>the body itself is compact. we are waiting for the vemuraxi civilization of mogdath to approve the autopsy of one of their corpses. since we don’t know about the interior organs, we can go with what we know with the interior. i don’t exactly know how he did it, but private johan of the security force managed to obtain pictures of a female vemurax. from the data he got from conversing with said vemurax, we can see they share some mammalian characteristics. they appear to give live birth and copulate sexually. they also feed their children milk, if one can call a blueish liquid milk. johan also got a sample of this. several of the team still wants to know how he got these things, but as a higher up, i’ve denied this knowledge. it’d be much better not to resort to the brain bleach. male anatomy is not known, but we believe it is safe to think that they have penises.
>a vemurax is bi-retinal. it has three horns and a four sectioned mouth. they are also omnivores. there are different races of vemuraxi, though the differences are mainly color, speech, and minor body changes

>their language is a simple one, but holds the semantics of language quite well. they are decently advanced, and have gotten into a civilization stage of life. that said, there is something similar to a tribal way of thought. there appears to be tension between the blackbacks and whitebacks. brownbacks appear the most advanced of the groups since they don’t really have conflicts. a lot of greenbacks are more connected to nature. they’re similar to wood elves, though vemuraxi consider them ‘green freaks’, that there’s more important things than hugging ‘trees’.

>blackbacks are more nocturnal and seem to be more interested in more tropical areas. whitebacks are seen in plain areas and places that are cold. brownbacks stay around desert areas and plain areas. green backs… well they stay in the woods in their tree homes. that said, one can often see others in the other races areas. they have civilization afterall, but differences are differences.

>that is all we’ve gotten in a year of study, along with some of their language.

>this data needs encryption and high access as to hold off data from station researchers and workers. they’re supposed to be working. the research on vemur is to be carried out by the respective exploration. must also be encrypted so that future vemuraxi workers do not have to deal with the paranoia of being researched on. any human wouldn’t like knowing people are trying to learn about them.

>we will let workers know that vemurax exist, and that we shouldn’t mess around with them until they achieve advanced space travel. this will probably be once we stabilize relations with the vemurax nations.

>LOG OF MAXWELL KENSINGTON

>AS THE FIRST AND HEAD SYSTEM OPERATING TECHNICIAN ON STATION, I HAVE DECIDED TO START MY OWN LOG JOURNAL. MY PENOR HAS KEPT THIS SHIP'S COMPUTERS AND AI'S RUNNING WELL. I AM THE AI DOCTOR I GUESS.

>A SYNDICATE HAS RECENTLY GIVEN ME AN INCENTIVE TO DEFECT, BUT I'VE REFUSED. THEY DON'T KNOW WHERE STATION IS, AND COULDN'T GET IN IF THEY TRIED. THROUGH THE USE OF SPACE STATION 13, A HIGH RISK STATION USED TO IMPROVE STATION DEVELOPMENT RESEARCH, NANOTRANSEN HAS GIVEN OUR COMPANY MUCH DATA FOR SECURITY AND SAFETY. WE TRAIN OUR PEOPLE MUCH HARDER, AND TAKE THE BEST. WE'VE DEVELOPED THE MODULE SYSTEM FOR PRACTICALITY. AS A BROTHER COMPANY, WE ENSURE WE EXPAND OUR REACH AND TECHNOLOGIES TO ENSURE WE STAY AHEAD.

>THE MAIN REASON I'VE STARTED THIS JOURNAL ARE THE MORE AND MORE UNNERVING THINGS I'VE OBSERVED IN THE FIRST FEW DAYS. THE STATION WAS FORMED OVER AN “UNCONTACTED” PLANET THAT IS CALLED VEMAR, AT LEAST ACCORDING TO THE CAPTAIN. THE COMPANY NEVER DOES ANYTHING WITHOUT REASON, WHICH IS WHY I HAVE REASON TO BELIEVE THAT THERE'S SOMETHING ABOUT VEMAR. SOMETHING MUST HAVE BEEN DISCOVERED.

>I MAY NOT BE A SYNDICATE, BUT I KNOW THIS COMPANY HAS BECOME A CONQUEROR. THEY ALSO DON'T JUST SET UP TOP OF THE ART STATIONS IN DEEP SPACE. SOMETHING'S UP.

>IF IT COMES TO A HEAD, AND THE REAL SHIT GOES DOWN, MY GOAL IS TO GET INFORMATION WHERE IT NEEDS TO GO. THREE YEARS ON 13 AND SEVERAL YEARS IN OTHER ROLES ENSURE THAT I CAN HANDLE MYSELF. I NEED TO GET PEOPLE TO SAVE THEMSELVES. I JUST HOPE WHAT I DO IS FOR THE BEST OF EVERYTHING THAT LIVES.

>Dear finder of these chips,
It appears shit has gone down. If so, AI 69 has probably been activated with either your own card or the card I’ve planted. You also were left behind. The finding of these chips means that either a partner was injured or that you checked the sleeper to see if it still worked. Either way, it’s great that you checked this out.
I’m writing this so fast, I don’t even care about the fact that it’s missing the title. This card and the one attached was created as to ensure that you have a better time living on this station after evacuation. You need to know what is happening. I’ve scattered other documents and chips around for you to find as need be. I don’t want to keep my eggs in one basket, do I?
This chip holds many schematics, textbooks, and digital suites for you to use in case it’s needed. I’ve attached schematics for a cutter module for module bot, a glock (a handgun from a looong time ago.), and a bullet (You’ll need a chemist for part of it).
Also a general textbook on basic fighting, just in case. Comes also with a Hacksuite for AI69 (decoder, packet_catcher, tempfwall, and many other virtual space hacking tools), and utilites for the PDA (flashlight, atmos scan, medical scan, sound synthesizer, wide spectrum camera adapter)
The summary of the situation is that we completely underestimated the Vemuraxi, the station, Vemur, and the existence of magic. Well, we knew that magic exists, but we don’t really have means of controlling it. Now, we know we’re fucked. I don’t know the details, but I’ve seen some pretty crazy shit already. And I’m not talking blobs. I’m talking full out monsters, and they aren’t vemuraxi either.
Take your time. Go back through the station. Some parts have less security now… well, less security guards.
I’m going to get into the high access wing and see what I can do. You’ll need to get your own high access card to get in. Good luck with that Survivor.
