Your head is throbbing, your ears are ringing, and the world around has blurred into an indistinguishable mass of swirling colors. You don’t want to stand up. You can’t remember exactly what happened before you blacked out, but something tells you that standing up is going to be very painful to do.

Of course, it’s not like the man hovering over you, shaking your body frantically as he screams into your face, is giving you much of an option.

Though at first you can’t make out what he’s saying, the ringing in your ear slowly begins to fade.

“Agent? Agent? Jesus Christ man, wake up! I can’t have you dyin’ on me out here, I promised the Agency that I wouldn’t lose any more partners! If I report back and you’re dead…”

“Aww shit, Admin’s gonna kill me for this!”

Roll your eyes back into your head and go limp. Wait for this guy to leave. It doesn't sound safe to be his partner.
>>
No. 209350 ID: 6e5a24

You can hear clearly, but all of your partner’s yelling is making your headache worse than it already is. You open your mouth to tell him to stop talking, but the most you can manage is a painful sounding groan.

“Oh thank god, you’re alive. Lemme help you get you back on your feet. I thought we were screwed back there.”

Your partner extends his hand for you and helps pull you to your feet. Your legs aren’t hurting nearly as much as you thought they would, and you seem to be able to stand.

Looking around you, you’re able to make out that you’re outside, near the back wall of a large mansion that seems to be in the middle of a large forest. You lean against a nearby tree to catch your breath.

“Hey uh, Agent… are you okay? That was one hell of a fall you took.”

After a few brief moments of recovery, you’re able to regain your composure and ask a few questions of your own.

>“H-Hold on a second. Where am I? What am I doing here? What happened?…”

Your partner looks at you for a few seconds, a blank expression on his face. He seems genuinely confused by your line of questioning. This can’t be good.

“The hell are you talking about? We just…”

His expression quickly changes to concern. He looks down at his watch and bites his lower lip.

“…Aww dammit, this ain’t good. Do I even have time to do the concussion test?”

You look around some more as the man mumbles to himself. Looking at the ground near his feet, you notice the corpse of a man in a black shirt, hands clutched around a pistol and a knife sticking from his back.

…You make a mental note to ask about that once this guy shuts up.

“Alright, if you really can’t remember anything, we may need to fall back and call this thing off. You look alright, but I’m gonna ask you a couple quick questions to make sure nothing happened to your head on the way down or anything.

I’ll start you out with an easy one, man. Uh... What's your NAME? You at least remember your NAME, right?"

>"Special Agent Sy Kic."

"Alright then, seems like you're okay to me, but I'll patch you through to Uplink to be safe.

Everything was starting to come back to you. Your name, the mission, the Agency... The only thing you still didn't know is what caused the fall that knocked you out in the first place. Yo hear static in your ear as your contact back at Agency HQ buzzes in, followed by the voice of a young woman.

"Uplink here. We've been monitoring your vital signs since you blacked out. I’m happy to say that everything seems good on my end. Not sure how much you remember, but I’m going to run through the mission briefing for you in case you need to refresh your memory. Agency protocol and such, but don’t worry, it won’t take long. I’ll just give you the cliff notes.

Right now, you’re in South Africa. Three years ago Kawado Itume, the leader of one of the largest African drug cartels, was assassinated by an American Mercenary named Luke Sinistra, who assumed control of his empire. Early this month, Sinistra killed the leaders of the last competing African drug rings, effectively seizing control of the entire South African drug trade. The Agency believes that taking out Sinistra will deal a crippling blow to the drug trade both in and out of Africa. Your mission is simple. Make your way into Sinistra’s mansion, take him out, and escape. For a man of your talent, it should be simple enough.

We’re not sure how closely they might be monitoring communications around the mansion, so we need to keep radio communication to a minimum. Uplink out.”

Agent Kic looks over to you, still seeming a bit nervous.
”Alright, we should get moving now. Anything else before we move out?”

Your attention shifts once more to the corpse on the ground.

You kneel down next to the body and check it for anything useful. Luckily, he doesn't seem to be anyone you know. As you rummage through his pockets, Agent Kic reaches over his shoulder and yanks the knife from his back.

>"By the way, who is this?"

Kic shuffles nervously.

"Guard. After a few minutes of watching the pace, I thought I had the paths they went down all worked out. I figured we could scale the back of the building and get in through the roof, but one of the guards came around back while you were scalin' that rope over there."

Kic motions towards a rope with a hook at the end of it laying on the ground by the corpse. The hook at the end has snapped off.

"I got kind of worried and figured that I could get up the rope too before he saw us, but thing wasn't meant to support two guys at once, I guess. I just ended up yanking you and the rope off the roof."

Seems that you were right in your assumption that this guy was dangerous to be around.

"I uh... I took out the guy before he radioed for backup though, so... it's all good, I think.

In the guard's pocket, you find a pack of cigarettes, but not much else. Your revolver seems to be okay in spite of the fall, but you take the guard's pistol to be safe.

Well, that's just excellent.

>"We're in the middle of a forest. Think if we climbed one of these trees we might be able to reach the roof from there?"

"You know, that's actually some good thinking. But... I dunno. If you think YOU'RE agile enough to climb up a tree, shimmy across its branches, and make a leap of faith for the roof, fine with me. I'll let you know that I sure can't. If you do, you would be on your own until I found another way in."

>"Well what do you suggest, then?"

"Like I said, if you still wanna go for the roof, your tree plan sounds good. But it's only gonna be a matter of time before the guards realize one of their buddies are missing, and when they can't find him this place is gonna go on full alert, ya' know? I'm starting to consider putting my license to kill to use and just taking my chances with the front door."

>"My memory is back for the most part. I remember what my mission is and who I'm after, but I'm still drawing a blank when it comes to the details. Do we know the layout of the mansion? What floor Sinistra is on?"

"We watched the mansion for a while before heading in. Mansion has three floors. We couldn't get visual on Sinistra, but his office and his bedroom are on the top floor. That's why we tried to go in through the roof, our best bet is that he's somewhere on the top floor.

There's one guard who comes in and out of the house to patrol, and four guards who are always patroling outside."

Agent Kic pauses for a moment and looks down at the guard laying on the ground.

"Erm... three guards. Three guards always outside. Not sure how many are inside, but from the looks of it I would guess at least two."

>>209400

>"You mentioned that you killed the guard before he radioed in, but when I searched him I didn't see a radio on his body."

>"Do you think it might be safer to fall back and attempt this again later? We're pretty much making up plan B as we go along, and that doesn't seem safe going up against a guy like Mr. Sinistra."

"Well you see, that's the thing. The reason why we picked today to take Luke out is because intel we've gathered tells us that he's having a meeting with an unnamed "associate" of his in his mansion around this time today. Sinistra's a mercenary. A gun for hire. Someone like him doesn't seize control of the entire South African drug cartel without help, you know? This way, we can take out Sinistra and whoever it is that's been backing him during his rise to power.

If we hold off on doing this, we might miss our only shot to find out who's backing the guy."

If we retreat now, they'll notice the dead guard. They'll know someone's trying to go after him, and ramp up security. No, we have to go in now. Since we don't know much (enough) at all, we don't know how much a better decision going onto the roof will be.

So, here's a vote for brute forcing it. Maybe not guns blazing, but straight through the door.
>>
No. 209499 ID: ad6ebf

With one guard down, there's a gap in the defences... Hide the guard's body, and attempt to sneak through the gap. Look for cover like bushes and plants as you move around the mansion, and keep an eye open for other doors. They'll likely be locked, but there's still a chance.

If the guard has the right sized uniform, change into it for a disguise. It won't stand close inspection, (with less than 10 guards, they probably all know each other personally), but it means if they see you in the distance, they arn't likely to take pot-shots at you. But sneaking would make them suspious, even if you're in uniform.

Maybe put our buddy here in the uniform, and have him follow the patrol route? Then we can sneak in. This means that nothing appears out of the ordinary to the guards, and if we end up drawing attention to ourselves, Sy can shoot the guards in the back as they gather towards the disturbance. This, however, assumes that the guards are patrolling in a circle around the mansion, all going the same way. If they go opposite ways, or the guards meet at certain points on patrol, Sy might be discovered.

"Ok, Kic. How good is your License anyway? I could go in via a tree while you grash and mag. Er...Smash and grab at the front door. In all likelihood, the bosses will fall back to the top floor, and I'll take them out up there - unless you don't think you can handle it by yourself." Kick the dead body, and remove the knife to give it back to Kic. "If you think you can find a way to make that knife wound look less obvious, maybe you could disguise yourself and pull a postman in the lobby or if it won't fit you, I can go in dressed up like the dead guy. What do you think?"

Realizing that you only have a few moments before another guard comes around back to check on things, you sigh and hand Agent Kic the pistol you took off the now very dead guard. You feel more comfortable using your lucky revolver anyway. Kic looks at the guard's pistol in his hand, and then reaches into his jacket, pulling his own pistol out again with his other. A devious grin forms on his face as he looks back up at you.

Something the idea of dual wielding pistols makes Sy's eyes light up like a small child in a candy store.

"Oh hell yes."

You take a few steps back to brace yourself before running up to the tree closest to the building's back wall. With a grunt you leap towards it, grabbing a hold of one of its branches and hoisting yourself up.

If there isn't anything up here other then the skylight - which I doubt - see if there's anyway to open it from the outside. Screws to loosen, a hatch to open. Some way to get in without a lot of noise. Sy's gonna be out loud smash, we're gonna be the grab.

You look over the structure of the skylight for a few seconds. Below, you can see two guards standing in front of a door on the third floor of a building. They seem to be discussing something. You press your ear against the glass to see if you can make out the conversation.

"Did... did you hear something?"

"Don't worry about it."

"Don't worry about it? It sounded like more gunshots."

"I'm telling you man, there's nothing to worry about. People drive by shooting at this place all the time. You know why I'm not worried?"

"W...why?"

"Because we're on the third floor, that’s why. In all my years of working here, no one's ever made it to the third floor. There's just too many guys inside, and once they start climbing the stairs they don't got any cover to hide behind."

"I...I guess."

"Besides, if we were in any real danger, the guys outside would have sounded the alarm by now."

It seems like these guys are on a different radio frequency than the guys outside.

Smashing through the skylight would let you get the drop on these two guys, but you risk alerting anyone else on the floor to your presence. If Sinistra didn't already know you were coming already, breaking through the glass would guarantee he did.

There's a lock on the hatch. Picking the lock and opening it would be quieter, but it gives the guards directly underneath you much more time to notice you screwing around on the roof.

Oh come on, we were trained for B&E. Lock picking is easy as pie. We just hunker down, put the torsion wrench in place and work the pick. We can crouch low as possible while doing this - that is if we don't have a pick gun or something even better from R&D.

Anyway, before we do anything, radio off. Sy can take care of himself - I think - and this is our job.

I do hope we have a silencer for our revolver, but if not, we're gonna have to rely on close quarters combat for the job. Go for neck blows to stop them from shouting out and disabling their arms and radios.

If we do have a silencer for the revolver, doubletap both in the head. Jump in while they fall, to catch the bodies from making to much noise.

You decide that if you're going to do this quietly, it would be best if you turn the radio off. Sy can handle himself... hopefully. Luckily, the lock isn't anything too fancy, and you manage to work it open within seconds.

Almost as soon as you begin to open the hatch, the gunshots start up again. This time, they're coming from within the mansion.

"Shit, they're inside! Why wasn't there an alarm! You just said that they would sound the alarm! Why didn't they sound the alarm!?"

"What did I just finish telling you? Relax man, we're on the third floor. Even if they clear out the entire first floor, they're sitting ducks once they start climbing the stairs."

Unfortunately, it seems like these guys have positioned themselves right in front of the doors leading to Sinistra's office and his bedroom. If you're going to get to them, you'll have to go through Sinistra.

Luckily, from your position overlooking the third floor's hallway, you should be able to get off a clean shot at both of them, and the silencer on your lucky revolver should keep you from attracting too much attention from anyone in the area.

"But... they're inside! What if-"

"I'm telling you, no one's getting up here..."

You take aim...

You lower yourself down onto the third floor. There are two doors. To your left is the large double door leading to what you assume is Sinistra's bedroom, and to your right is a smaller door leading to his office.

The larger of the two dead guards has an assault rife on his corpse, but automatic weapons are certainly less discreet than your methods so far. Perhaps you should leave it here in case Kic comes by and decides he wants to step up the firepower?

The other guard has no weapons on him. It seems that he was so confident in his safety on the third floor that he stopped bringing any form of self defense to his patrol. He did have a lighter on him, which you tuck away next to the cigarettes you took off the dead guard earlier.

In the frame behind you is a copy of a late eighteenth century painting titled "New World Order," which depicts an eye rising behind a few mountains. Maybe Sinistra is a fan of fine art? A similar eye appears to be carved into the design above his bedroom door.

Through the window on the office door, you can tell that the lights are on. Someone is likely inside.

Leaving loaded automatic weaponry lying around for random protagonists to pick up? Best idea ever!

Check the painting to see if the eye is a camera. You may have already been spotted. If not prepare to bust through that door (C4 works wonders there) and take the guy by storm. Beware he might already be armed, but it's nothing a man of your talents can't handle.

Poke the eye, see if it unlocks the door.

Now that you think about it, leaving a loaded assault rifle around isn't a very good idea. You decide not to take it, but you remove its ammunition and tuck it away in your suit pocket.

Inspecting the picture you find nothing strange, with the exception of Sinistra's odd fixation on eyes.

Which only leaves one thing left to do...

Find out what the hell is more important than us. Look around, gun at the ready. Eyes on the prize, but if it's the people that are controlling our little drug cartel owning merc, two to the head of them. If not two in Sinistra.

Do we have any way of radioing Sy after the job is done?

>"No."

Having said all that needs to be said, you prepare to pull the trigger only to be caught off guard by voice behind you.

"Well whatdda'ya know? An assassination attempt just as the meeting gets underway, huh? How convenient. This wouldn’t happen to be your way of weaseling out of our little conference, would it Luke?"

You look around, gun still focused on the drug lord.

...That voice sounds a lot like the one in all of those videos sent by...

...This is bad.

The man on the screen is Doctor Viper. The leader of the international terrorist organization known as RED VIPER.

Something tells you that this is about a lot more than drugs.

"...Because if this is your way of avoiding conversation with me, I'm not impressed Sinistra. Not one bit."

Viper's on a television screen, I believe.

This has got to be embarrassing for Sinistra. Maybe we should switch to capturing him alive. I bet the powers that be would like to know why these men are in communication.

That and we need a way to get out of here safely. A hostage might help...

Keep our lucky revolver trained on Sinistra. Put one hand in our pocket and hope to god that a)our cellphone tracker works at all, and b)the tracker works after our fall.

"Busy, gentlemen? I hope this isn't a pressing engagement, I have some business with Sinistra. An arms deal."

"Hands up Sinistra!" Put a bullet in his shoulder if he does not comply. (Four rounds left in our revolver, Three if we have to shoot him in the shoulder!) Radio in to Uplink and ask if they wish for the assassination to be carried through or if they want us to take Sinistra in for questioning. Keep your gun trained on Sinistra and move away from the door, you've watched too many movies were the villain pulls some crazy last-minute escape plan out of their ass!
