There were once seven powerful beings, controlling the elements. They lived in harmony, and soon created the inhabitants of the world. From the fire Dragonkin were born, from the water Merfolk were born, from the air harpies were born, from the earth Dwarves were born, from the dark Changelings were born, from the light Elves were born, and from the aether Humans were born.

The six other species were afraid of the Dark Children, and cast them away to the End, a space at the end of the planet. The Being of Dark was outraged, and started terrorizing the other six Children. The other Beings got together, and decided upon one hero from each of their Children to stop this.

The six, along with a Dark Child who felt for the others, entered the End, and cast the Dark Being deep underground. The binding was only temporary, and regular excursions would have to be made to freshen the seal. The seven were made heroes, and turned kings. They all led their fellow Children to parts of the land.

At the center lay a country where all Children could live together in peace.

Fifty Cycles have passed since the last Freshening, and a new seven must be sent to reseal the Dark Being.

Wait actually if the Dark being is the one we're going to reseal then how does having it as our choice effect thing? If we choose Dark wouldn't we be on its side?

"Will you buy me a drink, sweetie?"

She leans forward, smiling at the man next to her. The man nods back, and orders a drink for her.

"Thank you."

She waves at the man, takes her drink, and walks over to an empty seat, leaving the man confused and disappointed. Looking around, she slips a small necklace, a crimson red crystal on string from her shirt.

"I hope you were worth all that damn work..."

She feels a tap on her shoulder.

"Excuse me, girl. Where did you happen to get that crystal?"

"It's none of your business. Now, would you please let an innocent li'l' girl be so she can enjoy a drink?"

She turns around to face the man, and sees him wearing silver armor. His face has multiple scars.

"Madam, I think it'd be best if you'd hand that crystal over. Now."

She stands up, smiling.

"And what're you going to do if I don't?"

"Throw you in jail for thievery madam."

"Who said I stole this? I bought this fair and square."

"A crystal like that was stolen from the next town over. Those crystals are extremely rare to find."

She frowns.

"I bought this in town."

"Likely story. Just hand over the crystal and you can go back to your drink."

"No, I paid good money for this!"

The man reaches for the crystal. She quickly slaps his hand away.

"You do realize that you've just attacked a Royal Guard?"

"You do realize I don't care very much?"

The man's hand goes to thee hilt of his sword, sitting behind his cloak.

'Well, shit. What am I gonna do now?'

[... so.. are we the crystal or is she just a thief or did she actually get it legitimately? all three actually matter as they alter the plan, also be careful with compromising character generation, some people pick a specific thing because they feel it is interesting but having something made of just parts of everyone's can leave people unsatisfied. or can make a character no one likes.]

Can I see proof that you are who you claim you are?

And any proof that the item is stolen?

Shouldn't a real officer of the law seek to either arrest me as a thief or question me on where I bought stolen goods? All you are trying to do is snatch away my property under the claim that it is stolen and you are an officer of the law.

Please don't do this, the last thing anyone needs is to be the cause of an entire town being razed.
Instead ask him to show you a badge of office, then explain that if the item was stolen, the merchant that sold is probably selling other items illegally, and that you would assist an investigation if it meant getting at least some of your money back. Also ask him what justification he has for accusing someone without any evidence, someone who upholds the law should be better than that after all.
If things get nasty anyway, try to immobilise him using Frizz-5, a fire spell is to dangerous to be casting indoors.

Good plan this. Point out the Merchant you bought it from. If he left, point out which way he came from. If this "Royal Guard" attacks you, flee to the town watch and ask for protection from the madman with a sword trying to kill you.
