Chorus of Whisper is the Story of Spectrum the artificial Jinnous, a being of light and voice and now thanks to the blessing of Antimpavaroah a half-elemental dragon. You have the power of the storm in the form of wings. In your battle with the Chlan Dusk that was born from darkness in your heart you gained a Heart of Hope. Even now it pulses warmly in your bosom, what powers does it hold?

You adventure began with your birth in the lab of an Alchemist.
You and your vat brother Nirdhar Brighthand the Seehi homunculus were sent from the lab of Defiu Unnad in Erimael when it was attacked by a mysterious fire mage. Who's words to you before you escaped were "I see you... I will find you..."
You were sent before you could know why you and your brother were made.

Found a mysterious message where you appeared which read
“DO NOT TRUST PARUMRIR
You survived an Implacable Gelatinous Ooze and gained an ally in the form of the wight Kyarin Viotellez.

You went to Town. Met a hedgewizard and saw an extraordinary wedding, between an Leoni Nighom and a Gnoll, the ceremony held by a Redeemer. Who banished the evil spirits possessing the rings, which were brought forth by a Kitir a horned fox spirit.

You fought a being of darkness born from you absorbing light. Then you left southwards, towards Erimael and into the lands of the masked Kithan; Tagan.

That is were our story returns.

You, Nirdhar and Kyarin are on a road, you have passed through a few villages with little or no events. Some wild monsters and bandits attacked you on your way, but really nothing serious.
You have only just started to enter the lands of Tagan.

You have gained more control over your {Wings of the Storm}, you can manipulate them like any other part of your body. You can more easily hold the form you are assuming, but you still can't hold it in battle. Nirdhar's training in resisting outside intrusions to his mind is progressing well, though you are as a side effect, getting better at getting into a mind. You have tried to nurture your holy ward into granting you holy light, but you have not had much progress.

Kyarin has opened up a bit to you.

You are at a crossroads. A sign to the west reads Jasclin, to the east is two signs, Caskh and Poifla Ruins. To the south is three signs. Balruo, Hilkas and Ostalis. To the North is back the way you came.

There is forest all around.

There is a man sitting on the sign post...

A man sitting on a sign post?
His aura is cloaked. He wears a mask with a mouth on the top and forehead on the bottom. It is mildly disturbing.

He appears to be humming a tune. He has not noticed you yet, you have no idea if he can see you.
If you haunt Nirdhar, he would have to be very powerful to see you. Aura cloaking can be done by non-mages.

You could flee into the forest, but that would mean you probably get lost.

The man just seems to be minding his own business while sitting on a signpost, not the strangest thing a Kithan has done...
>>
No. 318457 ID: bd2a40

I say forest, plenty of adventure in a forest, especially if you get lost.
>>
No. 318459 ID: 0d095c

NO. We must find out who this man is. Nod politely to him as you walk past and pay him no attention otherwise.

If you feel you must, everyone link arms and sing "Follow the Black Gravel Road".

>Nirdhar's training in resisting outside intrusions to his mind is progressing well, though you are as a side effect, getting better at getting into a mind.
I thought that was as intended. We both get trained that way.
Note, this is best done before going to sleep. So you our out most of the day and practicing your magic. Before bed you can practice haunting / defense and then he falls asleep and you are out again (and can practice all night)

>Ruins
Well that is SURE to be interesting.
>Forest adventure
Yes there is adventure there, but its a big forest and we don't know where to look.
>Towns
I wonder whats in the various towns... maybe if we go to the closest one we could find out

>Man on post
Well, lets talk to him.
>Hide self from man on post?
I wouldn't.

Talking to him could help us decide on where to go and what to do next.
>>
No. 318468 ID: bd2a40

Man, we would always talk to the random person that looks interesting. I just think going in a completely random direction for no apparent reason would be fun.
>>
No. 318487 ID: b1f0e2

>>318468
lets get meta here. The author wrote hooks for every one of the places he came up with, probably tied them together.
"walk in a completely random direction that has nothing to do with anything" is basically "throw away all this stuff and make up new stuff that isn't any better and is probably not as good"
Or alternatively, it is a "slightly modify previous plot to not occur where we are going"
>>
No. 318499 ID: bd2a40

>>318487
Damn, you are right.
I wonder if it would be possible to go back and return a day later, hoping the guy is gone.

Otherwise, if this is not possible, I agree with walking past him and letting events unfold with out the attempt at talking.
>>
No. 318502 ID: b1f0e2

alright, so thats 1 vote (mine) for "talk to him, based on info he gives decide where to go"

2 votes for avoiding him (specifically "casually walk by, ignoring him").

Which begs the question, if we are ignoring him and walking by then where do you want to go towards? The road splits into 4 directions. 1 we are coming from, and 3 others. And there are signs saying whats in each direction.
>>
No. 318532 ID: 3073a8

Well...he is sitting on the sign. And signs provide important directional information. So we might as well meet him. And the sign.

You consider fate, and how you could go off into the woods and entirely avoid this encounter with such a strange man, but in the end, you don't really like the idea of getting lost in the forests of Tagan.

So you go forwards, towards the sign and the strange Kithan. You would prefer to just go past but you need to decide where you are going to go...

The man stops humming and he faces Nirdhar and Kyarin.
“Good morrow, may you be free of Sorrow!
A lovely day, wouldn't you say?
Are you going southwards?
Be careful where you go, beware!”

The man laughs.
“Things are stirring in this Land.
In Caskh, I doubt you'd stand!
Just some advice, from one nameless Traveller.
To two nameless amblers!”

“Ah these days it seems
as if the wrong people
are wearing the wrong masks!”

The man continues humming.
You could ask him a few questions...
He doesn't seem to be aware of you or able to see you.

If you just leave, where will you go?
[Also a few 1d100 rolls, if you please!]

What is going on?

Wrong people wearing the wrong masks.

Introduction.
Small talk.

You urge Nirdhar to speak.
“Thank you for the advice traveller, I am known as-ss Nirdhar, and this-ss is-ss my companion Kyarin, who might you be?”

The mask grins... is that usual?

{Maskedman}“I speak but I am never heard, my face is cold and hard, my eyes are covered. I know where my heart is”
“Though if you must call me by a name, Nixan Liir will do”

{Nirdhar} “What did you mean about the wrong people wearing the wrong masks”

Nixan laughs
“My dear boy, you are just like poor unknowing Laithvia! It is an old Kithan saying for when people are not acting as they should, for when there is something bad going on.”

“What has happened?” Nirdhar asks.

[Roll 29]
“Murder, well murders, they say that the Hooded one walks the land, what he would be doing away from the Urlubris I have no idea. The location of the murders has be moving around, last time I heard, it was Caskh that the deaths were happening.

I don't really know more about it than that.”

{Nirdhar} “Do you have any other news?”

“Well the golden pipe has gone missing, quite the fuss about that I assure you! Though there is a woman by the name of Galion Golra hunting after that. Don't know where she is.
[94] A Catacomb from the Urlubris has recently arisen to the southwest, it has attracted many adventurers and mercenaries, the Kithan war troupe, known as The Laughing Blades is also present. No one as reached the core of the catacomb yet.
[67] Jasclin has three traveling companies in it at the moment! Thusly a festival is in the works.
[38] There has been rumours of the bearer of Crom the Rattling Blade passing through Ostalis, people are excited at such a dramatic rumour.
A theatrical robber baron is said to have set up a base in the woods, his performance has been viewed as crass. A black fog has settled above Poifla's ruins”

Currently the votes stand as such; (only locations that do not require moving through another place are listed as options.

{TO THE CATACOMBS}

You decide that the catacombs would be good for trying out Nirdhar's new skills and for hardening him up. Also you are quite poor...

Scratch that, you don't even have two Leons to rub together!
Kyarin has no problem with going into the Catacombs, she did so once before, when she was alive.

The strange masked man points you in the right direction, and gives a parting warning.

“Those without masks often have ways of hiding their faces”

You get lost a few times, but Nirhar easily climbs up a tree each time and catches sight of the Catacomb each time.

Finally you approach it. It is... very... large. Looks to be quite a big one, that is for sure.

It juts out from the ground, the land around it tortured and broken, Strange gases, or perhaps just visible motes of magic, steam from the cracked soil around it. As for the catacomb itself it glows with a peculiar light.

There is crowds of tents around it, even a wooden shack or two. The catacombs have attracted all kinds of people. Merchants, adventurers, mercenaries, collectors, several people also saw the opportunity for selling drinks and food.

Your voices swirl as you consider how you should take this place one.

The first matter is, which direction is the core of the catacomb in? It could be up or down.
Should you get Nirdhar to find some allies?
Should you haunt Nirdhar, thus being more powerful and your magic would be able to affect physical things aswell as non-physical, you'd be able to boost Nirdhar's power too.
There is the consideration that hiding your presence could be a good idea, you are nigh undetectable when haunting. Also it'll be harder for Nirdhar to be possessed if you are there haunting him...
Should you scout the place out? See who is who, somebody must be maintaining order in this place.
Also it would be unfortunate to come out of the Catacomb only to be attacked by scavengers.
Gaining intelligence as to what people have encountered so far would be good.

[Make your plans as always, a plan can go with a roll, or a roll without a plan]
[Also one 1d100 roll please]
[Bear in mind you are dirt poor apart from some crystals you can sell/trade with]
[Try not to have more than five rolls]
[Abilities will be posted of all party members before you enter the catacombs, as well as equipage]

[Roll 82]
You feel resistance to your touch at first, as you have been training Nirdhar, but you have gained strength and break through his walls, using a combination of power and purification, Nirdhar works quickly to plug the holes you make, but he cannot stop the walls tearing themselves apart.

He welcomes you as you slip past the rest of his defences. You rest comfortably in his aura and mind.
Welcome back Sister

You enter into the camp.
Smells and sounds waft round you and Nirdhar, the mood of the camp is pleasant, and joyous. There is a atmosphere of adventure. You see all kinds of people, of many races, even a few tainted. It isn't only adventurers though.

The tongues of the people selling food and drink are loose, as well as many others. Many are willing to just speak, and you hear the whispers of others. [Roll 43]

The Laughing Blades seem to be maintaining order strangely enough. They have one rule, as laid out by their leader, the Black Harlequin.
“Don't ruin the fun”
So nobody has tried robbing a person exiting a person exiting the catacombs... no one.

The Catacombs themselves are barely cleared, A lot of people have only recently arrived, and due to the regenerating nature of the catacombs only the entrance and two floors above and below are cleared. Nobody knows whether the core is above or below. The floors that were cleared were labyrinthine and had quite a lot of loot, the monsters were of the usual variety found in Catacombs.

Various spirits, some mad, some bad, some sad. Enchanted armours, shade hounds, most of the usual Urlubris denizens. Though, there is rumours of two things.

A Nixruch, a Confessor is rumoured to be in the catacomb, which is usual. The confessors are guardians of the Urlubris, testers and watchers, they usually escape if a section rises.

There has also been a dark whisper heard in the catacombs.

Apart from the Laughing Blades there is no other organization of note.

You manage to find a number of people who you think might join you on your foray.

Equip: Dress, leather corset, warm shawl, clammy hands, various bandages and tinctures, potion and herb bag.
Preferred Loot: None.
Party attitudes: She just wants to help, but her people are viewed as filthy carrion eaters. Of course they do eat nearly any dead body, but really ghouls are quite clean, and she is such a nice girl, and besides Ghouls are believers in the sanctity of life and death. They also think eating the dead is a action reflecting this.
{All party members except Faei will feel some unease at a ghoul healer, Faei has her reasons for not being bovered}
Reason: Wants to heal people who get hurt.

The only two you cannot take together are Riant the Cuip and Jaiiros the Half-elf/huldre.
Preferred Loot simply refers to the type of loot they like best, not that they will defiantly take all of that loot.

More party members more shares of loot, if you get enough loot, this is a moot point really.
A consideration is how you are going to keep whoever you take unified.
You detect nothing unusual about these peoples .

Also choose whether you go up or down, the core is more commonly downwards, but it can be upwards too. A plan of action and what positions the party members will take is also required.

Bad plans will earn disdain.

Hmmmmm... What I'm thinking is the Half Elf and the Catkin mage. Because honestly, they have decent skillsets, and conflicting personalities. Half-Elf Troll Troll and Hyperserious Cat Wizard seem to be the best complement to our party honestly.

Also, I suggest we go up. Because in the OTHER ruin we entered we found that the best treasure was concealed on the very top, and even if there is no treasure on top of this ruin, if we battle all the way up, we can lord it over all the other adventurers from up there. Another reason to take the Troll Elf along with us.

"You have a intrument of musical splendour do you not, Lizardkin?"

"Yes"

To your amazement as he plays a change comes over the flute, it begins to change slowly into amber!

Then when the change is finished, he stops and drops the flute onto Nirdhar's hands.

"If ever you have need of me, or just feel like it, or just see a thing I would be intested by, just play the right notes on that flute"

With that he dramatically exits, stage right.

You and your chosen party...

Goes upwards...
It doesn't take long to get to the uncleared level...

[Urlubris Catacomb, Level 3]

You are in the first room, Ira inspects the ghost lights in it, writing notes in a little book. It doesn't take her long. The room is covered with picture of the trials that people have undergone. The blue crystalline walls are flush with the amaranthine light. Strange patterns swirl and change on the floor. Ira has already taken note of that. The ceiling is a mess of mind-twisting architecture. You feel your mind would be damaged if you looked at it too long.

Strangely there is no Gargoyles in the room...

The directions you can go are left and right.

Faei is doing a few stretches, Derastra is nervously clutching her key. Kyarin is alert and ready.

See those two straps on its torso? A well-placed Cross-beam should cut through those, and hopefully loosen the chest armour.
Due to the amount of precious metals on its "body" a Finger of Tarn is likely to be drawn to the nearest part of its body and safely earthed. Instead Nidhar should aim for the chests so that it hits the furthest one from the armour and the ground, the increased distance may force the current into another chest before it earths itself.

[You fail to start the chorus, if you knew how to sing, you could activate it at will, as it is you can only SING FROM THE HEART, your voice is underdeveloped]
The chlan being paces back and forth in front of You and your party. It hisses at you, and it's dark mane pulses behind it. You wait for it to act, to move. Nirdhar speaks at your behest.

{Nirdhar} “Attack on my word, I have a plan”
{Faei} “Hope you know what your doing scaly, that one looks mean”
{Ira} “I'll do as you ask”
{Kyarin} “...as you wish”

Derasta hides behind Faei's huge form.
“Wait for it...”

The Chlan suddenly leaps, and Nirhar raises his arm, Gyrluz Claw of Light active, as you channel the holy ward through it. The light shifts, shimmers, then white bursts through it, and blasts the leaping abomination back, for the briefest of moments a white barriar is extended around Nirhar and his companions.

Then the light of his arm flickers.
“NOW WHILE IT ISSS S-SSTUNNED!”

Feai, in spite of her size and armour moves for ward like a bolt of magic. Letting out a roar as she grabs the chlan in her clawguantlets and dashes it against the wall, a wall that Ira has changed into serrated spikes. The chlan howls in pain, but it is not yet over, Kyarin appears from behind Faei and thrusts her lance right into the knot of darkness beating in it's fel body. Then the fury of the storm is unleashed from her lance, energy coursing through it, tearing at the chlan hound's body.

It howls in pain, then with a swipe sends Kyarin flying, Faei catches her before she smashes into a wall. The chlan leaps and scrabbles ineffectually at her armour. Faei turns around to laugh after setting Kyarin down.

She screams as the chlan fires a beam of blackness from it's eye into her face. Flailing aound blinded she hits the thing away by chance. Ira fires up a pillar from the ground to smash the being into the ceiling.

Yet still the chlan moves...

Nirdhar's arm is brunt and blacked by the power of the holy ward forced through and his claw of light has faded, but he fires a weak beam. The chlan tries to activate it's null-shield, but it fails and the light goes through it, washing over it and the darkness begins to rip to shreds.

Kyarin stands, shaking, you hope her bones did not break. She grabs her lance walks over to the Chlan, stabs it in the knob. The armour clatters to the gound, reverting to it's original state and the shield turn back too.

“There, now it's over” Kyarin says.

Derasta gets to work healing Nirhar's arm and Faei's face.

Nirdhar lets out a long breath, it was finally over... and you in exultation at victory cry out the name of Nirdhar's unused sword!

-STORMBREAKER-

Even the others hear this, and the sword seems to crackle in response. Everyone is silent for a moment, all eyes on Nirdhar.

Strangely it is Ira who breaks the tension.
“Stupid Lizard filled with surprises...” She grumbles.
Faei begins to laugh, and stops as the burns on her face hurt her. Derasta rushes over.

As Derasta heals your party, you all investigate the chests which the possessed armour had used.

FIRST CHEST – Roll: 47
In the first chest is a {unidentified plain looking magic ring} and various coins and a few gems. There is a {wand} that Ira expresses an interest in. There is also a worn chain-link shield.

SECOND CHEST [Damaged] – Roll: 91 Damage: 61, contents preserved!

The contents of the chest you and nirdhar exploded are quickly found, well the only thing that survived is found. None of you are quite sure what it is...
It appears to be a... thing, a round thing... with a dent in it, completely unscathed There are bands of... something around it... It glows a bit.

THIRD CHEST – Roll: 10 [author rolled]

As you go near to the third chest and open it, you see a pair of eyes, nirdhar spits the mimic on it's head as it lunges at him. There was no treasure...

FOURTH CHEST – Roll: 86 [author rolled]

The fourth however, does not disappoint, in it you find a {unidentified adorned dagger}, a {unidentified iron goblet}, a {unidentified necklace of chains}, various valuable but unmagical bric-a-brac (Which Feai eyes adoringly.) and a uncounted amount of various coinage and gems (Which Faei also drools at). There is also a minature metal weasel, with a ruff.

FIFTH AND FINAL CHEST – Roll: 14
The last chest is filled with cobwebs and a gold-studded skull. You get an eerie feeling from it, but dusk doesn't resonate with it.

Roll: 44/1000, [Dat RNG]

You consider speaking to Kyarin, but you fail to think of what to say...

As you direct Nirdhar to take the right path, You ask him to speak to Ira.
You are worried about the nature of this catacomb... something is distinctly out of place.

{Nirdhar}“Do you mind ssharing what you have learned of this catacomb, Misss Kiopla?”
Ira smiles, or at least does what you think is a smile.
{Ira} “Certainly servant of a spirit, truth be told this catacomb is not typical. The lines of power are all wrong, leading to the top rather than into the Urlubris. It is too static, The motes are all moving upwards too, there is something happening here, but I know not what.”

“For example, touch the wall and tell me how it feels”
Nirdhar does so.
“...Warm, slimy”
“Exactly it should be cold and dry, also we haven't encountered any spirits or ghostmist, why? Combine these with the rumours of a prowling Nixrukh, and I am very intrigued as to what is happening here.”

Nirdhar flicks his tongue out.
-The Durahan?-
“The Durahan?”
Ira goes silent.
“That... Should not have happened. Durahan are objects that have been possessed or have gained a spirit a soul. But you could clearly see that one was unstable, In pain, something was tearing at it's matter driving it into madness. There was numerous spirits tying themselves in a knot in the armour.
There is something amiss here, I talked to Domraig, and he expressess a desire to NEVER be released in spirit form here, normally he is more powerful in catacombs... Thankfully your dead companion seems to be unaffected... just how old is she?”
