Hello there, Tetha-Gamma-Chi housemaster.

We've set up a new connection for your place; your previous system's tubes were clogged beyond repair, so to speak. You should now have all sites and feeds avaliable to you; as long as they're in the network's Broadcast range, they're all as far away as a point and click. A log of system changes after upgrades will be avaliable from now on.

I also hooked you up to the Washington Library, free of charge. That should breath a little genuine Academia in your sisterhood. ;)

And just to be sure, I reiterated the SEND queue. Get ready for a full inbox!

Good evening, fratboys. I think there's a little bit of truth in what you told me, afterall.

First, I have no idea why you insist that we monitor Persson-5. I can see the planet from my window, and its nothing but an airless barren rock. I think you'll be more interested on what the Eye saw about planet four.

First, the planet's an electronical hazard. Ionosphere's so thick, I'm surprised the Eye could read anything at all. The planet is mainly green with a breathable cyan atmo, apparently bursting with life... could be another read error. Can't find your supposed girl like this.

I'll be leaving the Eye's raw reads in the temp folder when I'm able. I can't file a full report; somebody locked out the planet's folder. ICDBee tech support claim its temporary, but I think it's the bureau.

And the reason is... Yeah.
No matter how much these 'sats are stealth, they still can't make them invisible.
I don't know. I feel like I'm way over my paycheck here.

I'll be moving to open traffic to planets and orbits again, but I make no promises. Keep your eye on the news. And no, I can't authorize package sends if there's nobody on the planet; that violates the Recycling Code.
By the way, the Eye will make another pass at the region in a week.

That's all.

The Persson System is an eight-planet, three-belt single star system located in the Maenad-Satyr arm of the Milky way (315°12'-65kly). It was first spotted by the People's Departament of Astronomical Studies in 2467-May-17, and confirmed by Bold Eagle in 2468-Jun-22. It was added to the Travel Plan in 01-Dec-2468 as a refuelling spot; arrival took place in 22-Aug-2470. The majority of the fleet is now stationed at the orbits of Persson-6 and its moons.

Persson-0 was confirmed as a K9V star going trough its Red Giant stage, and has an expected lifetime of four hundred years before collapsing.

Details about individual planets are under review and not avaliable at this time.

--- The current state of prosthetics (excerpt)

(...) The field of artificial prosthethics was, and is, forever fighting its three demons -- weight, power and rejection.

In the meantime, the biological fields marched on. Gene-therapy and clone-based medicine continued to improve up to the modern standards. Lander psique and phisique handle very little augumentation compared to what's possible; but that little was more than enough to make the dream of everyday artificial prosthetics obsolete. And with them, went the interest in advanced prosthetics. The death of the world envisioned by Gibson. And in a larger extent, the death of transhumanism.

Many kinds of smaller implants are readily avaliable; subdermal chips, sensorial aids, short-range communications, unobstrusive things, powered by the user's body heat. But the closest humanity ever came to a Man-Machine, would be when the spacers joined mankind.

With the assistance of state of the art full spactrum telescopes manufactured in Imperial Beijing, the People's Departament of Astronometrics locate the most optimum destination for the Fleet's flight path.

The next step is taken by the scout mothership Bold Eagle, which is prepared for single-ship long-range space travel. Supplied with a long list of systems to be surveyed, Bold Eagle uses their unique DRILL Engine to travel trough space by the means of instantaneous, self-generated Eisten-Rosen bridges in succession. Given the times involved between each bridge, this stage of the process takes ten months in average, with the longest surveying period recorded of ten decades. In the meantime, the Fleet explores the system where it resides for fuel and materials.

Once the destination is found, Bold Eagle uses an unique form of FTL communication to send their message, and begins assembling their end of the Gate. After the Fleet recieves the expected message, assembling our end of the Gate takes up to a month. Once both ends are active, its a matter of simply flying every ship in the Fleet to reach the new destination, where the proccess will begin anew.

The Bayer v427 Automatisches Wundenverschlussmittel für innere und äußere Verletzungen (colloquially known as "stitchworm") is a Type 6-Platy enginnered live medical supply produced by Bayer Labor, with permisson from Bayer AG. It is used to quickly heal grave wounds in a lander's physique, but is capable to mend almost any kind of tissue and bone damage. Its use is recommended only for lethal internal and external hemorragies, lacerations, incisions and penetrations, whether its dealt to vital organs or not. It is known to reverse or mitigate amputations, damage to spine, auto-inflicted tracheal damage, decapitations and personality-changing brain injuries caused by iron rods.

The Bayer 427 AW-IÄV comes in five-inch hard plastic capsules, and have a two years storage life. The capsule must be broken directly over the patient's wounded area; the contents will leave its dormant state as soon as it comes in contact with air and skin, and will immediately start the healing proccess. As soon as the wound is mended, or after six hours, the patient must take a standard dose of floquinaxin, or a tripled dose of a broad spectrum antibiotic such as Avelaxin. A new application should not take place for at least forty hours after the previous one.

The Bayer 427 AW-IÄV is not indicated for children, pregnant people, not-carbon-based lifeforms and hosts of valuable parasites or symbionts. It is not recommended for heavy abrasions or any kind of tissue and bone damage that could take over six hours to heal. Symptoms of long-term use of the Bayer 427 AW-IÄV may include fever, convulsive shaking of extremities, oliguria, hepatic encephalopathy, sudden or gradual kidney and liver failure, terminating in death.

The Bayer 427 AW-IÄV is handled as a black-class controlled substance. It is standard issue in Surgery Kits.

Fenceposts if I had to guess, likely to keep in livestock, some kind of groundbound avian if I remember.

Yes, she settled near (almost inside of) a waterfall. But what I'm asking is "which of the squares (maybe neither) highlight that point on the map?". Because I fail to positively identify any other landmarks.

Note also that the eastern square has dotted (waterfall-like) line in it, while the western's one is solid. What are all those strange lines for anyway?

When we get back in contact with Weasel, we should try breaking the fossil?-boulder by dropping it off a cliff. If there are no cliffs nearby with suitably rocky terrain below them, we should leave a heap of the larger rubble rocks we have collected at the intended impact spot (not great for smashing, but still better than dirt).

Oh. I'm pretty close to camp actually, this tree's just a couple metres away.

I still have lots of that flour, should be enough soup for a couple days. Somewhat low on protein, though.

Bow, bow... this thing ain't yew, but I could fashion a bow out of this wood. I'm out of ideas about what to use as string, though.

A flaming arrow is just a torch with an arrowhead. There's plenty of stone, and that strange flint to fashion a head. But... what I would use as fuel? My suit isn't very flammable... and I'd rather not lose more of it.

Anything else? What are my orders?

We hunt and explore. There's coal deposits on exposed rock here and there, we just haven't found any we can reach easily.

Unless you think you can grab enough dirt via the plankpack to dump into that square ditch we saw before and make a ramp? There was exposed coal there, definitely, and also some red stuff.

The chicken fence has string, you could use that to make a bow.

Let's see... what I used on that fence wasnt string, it was wire. Mostly copper wire, from the pod. It wouldn't make good string, it retains shape...

.. nor would my clothes. The fiber itself is solid, but I'd need to rip and unweave to make string out of it...

Maybe a bow is a bad idea right now, we should think of another delivery system for the flaming arrows.

But yes. I'm going to need to hunt, armed with a stone axe. There's no game around here, so which direction should I go?

And if I'm not mistaken, I'm at the red square. The nearby dotted lines should be waterfalls...

I think we're lucky that map has the crash site at all!

An atl atl is a really simple thing to make that will let you throw a spear pretty far. I think a sling would be a better idea if you have literally anything you can cut. You'll need to practice with either one, but the sling is a lot less work and you don't have to make projectiles.

362695

Well if a bow is going to prove too difficult, an atlatl should work. All you really need is a sturdy and reasonably straight stick with a branch forking off near the base. Just cleanly break off the smaller fork near the base, and ensure your arrows can rest solidly against your notch. Its a simple lever to increase your arm's throwing speed, but it may take a little practice to get the hang of. It won't be capable of imparting the same speeds as a proper bow, but can and should use larger ammunition, somewhere between an arrow and a spear, so the kinetic energy transfer can be comparable.

Wait, you can see our images? That should come in handy.

Who says you can't make a bow with wire? The wood provides most of the tension anyway... the main issue would be the wire deforming or breaking. Metal is not known for its elasticity, so... yeah, I guess it wouldn't work very well in the long run.

I still want to check out those dotted lines on the ground down to the south of you, but an alternative would be going around behind the cliff that has the waterfall. That's closer unexplored territory.

A bit of research on asphalt: Despite its association with roads, asphalt can be naturally occurring, such as in tar pits. (Though it does become suspicious if it is regularly shaped or near other possible rubble.)
Low tech uses for it include waterproofing and use as an adhesive.
>>
No. 363809 ID: 1854db

How is asphalt useful? ...I suppose if we found a source of heat to melt it down we could reshape it into whatever tool we wanted. I wonder what that red stuff is?

Regardless of WHAT this black rock is, this is really really weird. How can this be a natural deposit? I think this planet was artificially created, somehow.

Also at this point I think all the dark areas on our map are simply interference. Our contact did say the Ionosphere was really frickin' thick.

Hmm. Weasel, do you think you could make a pickaxe out of any of the metal from the pod?

Hey, hey. I think its time we focused, we're wasting time here.

I just arrived, so I could spend some time [surveying whats available]. Something better than the usual casual observations. No promises on finding anything though.

The asphalt... is asphalt. But I can't dig any of it with wooden tools without taking a day and a night doing it. And lots more of chisels. So no, ain't gonna happen without stone tools. Now, I can always [dig some rock] and hope I'm lucky; just tell me where. The stone around here is weak enough for my wooden chisel. Just.. not so much when there's something doing the binding.

I'd like to note I don't have anything to bind any toolhead I make to a branch. I can stick it into a tree like I did with the axe, but then the tool won't be ready until tomorrow maybe. The asphalt could be pretty handy for this... only if I could melt it.

Being without internet for this long, and having these many technical problems made me realize something. This quest is not worth it.

I do not care for it, painting these is too much work given how little I get from it. I'm not having fun.

Take your complaints to /questdis/. I'm done here.

Ah well, it was an interesting experience. Thanks for running it! I enjoyed your artistic style.
Take care, and I hope your internet problems are less of an issue in the future.
