Irol is pissed off.

He turned his back on Ik for a moment, and now she has run off! Ik is the greatest thorn in Irol's side. His campaign has only just begun - he should not even have any thorns yet.

Should Irol even bother looking for her, or should he just move on? It is going to be hard for him to face Wailahn and tell her that he lost her baby sister, but that is not even his problem. He has his own family to worry about.

If you do leave her, it's not like she won't be able to get back home. You're close enough that she knows her way around here. (It looks like you should have tied up Ik instead of Pavolo.) Maybe she went off to where she was earlier? Considering that she found him there he might know the way. You're probably going to start feeling guilty eventually if you leave her...

Well, as concerned as I am for her wellbeing, there's not much we can do. We should move on. If she wants to come back, I'm sure we'll leave a noticeable trail.

It looks like it's getting late. There's no time to search before the light's gone. Make camp and keep going at first light. Looking for Ik will just put more distance between you and your family.

"Break camp. We will leave without Ik."

The soldiers scramble back to camp to break down the tents and pack in all of the supplies.

Irol does not have time to go looking for her. He thinks that he will at least do her the favor of trying to rescue her surviving family along with his own.

It will not be easy to admit to Wailahn that he lost Ik, but Irol thinks that he will have to confront that problem anyway.

Should the party attempt to follow the slavers now and free the prisoners, or should Irol attempt to gather more men?

gather them from where? are there towns nearby? if so then yeah, if no towns are nearby or on the way then shadow them now. also good chance Ik got tired of waiting and ran on ahead like a crazy fool.

Irol knows of two villages nearby. While he does not have a map, he could probably find his way to them with the help of the warriors.

This will add about a day to their time in this area.

The villages are Linseniwek and Gorrun. Gorrun is slightly smaller, but should be faster and easier to find since it lies on the trade road. Linseniwek is farther off of the trade road, but it has more trained warriors.

>>
No. 394516 ID: 369d34

Gorrun has almost certainly had the same fate as your village by now. The army was marching along the trade road that it lays on, right? While it would make recruiting followers there easy, you need fighters, not farmers.

Better go to Linseniwek, then Gorrun. You can work out what to do from that point on.

Irol tells the party that they will be traveling to Linseniwek. They are far enough behind as it is, so there is not enough time to go to both places. It will be about four hours' walk to Linseniwek. The party has recently eaten, and there is fresh meat from the hunt.

Irol feels SLIGHT REMORSE for leaving Ik behind. She was a thorn in his side, but she was only a child.

Irol remembers that he has promised to teach the three warriors to read, and he intends to keep it. The only piece of literature that he has (aside from his written ledger of inventory) is the GOSPEL OF JEREM that he took from the HILL TEMPLE.

Toh says that he knows the way to Linseniwek for certain. Irol considers the following things to do along the journey:

1. Give the warriors a reading lesson (From Jerem's Gospel)
2. Converse (Irol does not truly know the three warriors that well)
3. Try to speak with Pavolo
4. Sing a jolly tune
5. Other (???)
>>
No. 396307 ID: 9af967

Converse! Reading lessons would be better when you're resting.

Also peep a jolly tune whenever there's a lull in the conversation.
>>
No. 396316 ID: 369d34

Converse with the three warriors. You're going to be with them for awhile, best to get to know them better.

Is the Gospel of Jerem commonly taught to the members of your village, in spoken form? That could make teaching these three from the book a little easier.

Jerem was the hero of the countryside people. His teachings are commonplace in rural villages like Irol's. Irol figures that the warriors know some of the verses from prayer at the temple, along with some non-apostolic prayer from the Scrolls of Talun.

>>396349
Irol actually finds it surprisingly difficult to be jovial at this time. He does agree, however, that they all need a pick-me-up.

He attempts to strike up a conversation with the warriors. They seem quiet, offering him, at best, a dim smile and a nod.

What should Irol say, and to whom?

How about asking them their reasons for picking up a weapon and joining the new militia after the abusive old militia was kicked out.

Have they all lived in your village their whole lives? Maybe ask if they've gone on any long trips before, and what they've seen.

I was in military service for two years for the Restoration Army before it disbanded. I have walked the steppes and followed the ocean shore to Ponyin and the capital Narang.

I traveled when I was a child to the three neighboring villages pretty regularly. Our grandfather was a thatch roof maker.

>have you traveled?
I have been up and down the road to collect flowers. I have gone as far as the steppes to find a steppe lily. I also went to help grandpa weave his roofs with Toh when we were young. I don't remember that much.

>what is your favorite thing about fighting?
I do not like to fight, but sometimes I must do it to protect my loved ones.

Irol looks at Pavolo, who keeps his eyes to the ground. He seems nervous.

The party encounters a fork in the trade road.

Toh says that the left road cuts through a corridor of jungle, and is much faster and more direct route to Linseniwek. He also notes that Gorrun is shortly down the right trail, as well as a round path to the Linseniwek area. Linseniwek will also require leaving the trail eventually.

There are bird and strange footprints along the road here, going to the rightward trail. The strange prints match Pavolo's.

Gorrun has probably been hit then. meaning we will at best find a handful of men wanting revenge rather then any real force. continue left.

Head on to Linseniwek, but glance in the direction of Gorrun to see if there's a column of smoke. That'll tell you if its been torched.

On the way to Linseniwek ask Toh and Vimán if they've heard anything about what's in this stretch of jungle. Maybe ask Pavolo what he's so nervous about.

The site at Gorrun is chillingly familiar to Irol. He feels sick to his stomach.

There is a foul smell in the air.

The party hears lively chatter, but can not make out the conversation.

Vimán utters a prayer, and Toh utters profanity.

There is soft weeping coming from a nearby hut.

Something may be burning. The stench in the air alternats between dead flesh and cinders.

Irol considers either commanding the party to split up for specific tasks, or remain together.

Have Pavolo stay close to you, he may be attacked out of fear or anger.
Maybe ask him why the brutality and death is necessary if they're just gathering slaves. Most of your people aren't fighters, so fighting parties like yours are going to be rare, most are going to stay peasants in a village.

Maybe a little complex or hard to get through Pavolo's language barrier, but I am really curious why they feel this brutality is necessary. The slaving is understandable while horrible, it's about money, but this...
>>
No. 400683 ID: 369d34

Stick together; There may be stragglers from the attacking army around, and anyone you meet would be more likely to listen to you if you have a group with you. Uh... Just keep Pavolo out of sight of them while you talk, if you can.

Investigate the weeping in the nearby hut. Peep before you enter to establish that you're not an enemy.

Is that a watchtower behind the huts to the right?
