Our hero is Jerry the Jerboa.
He's bad at climbing, good at digging, sprinting, and leaping. He lives in a small burrow under an oak, behind a human cabin.

Winter is coming, Jerry is getting hungry. The stash in his den is scarce, and all the berries and nuts have been picked over by the hordes of squirrels he is forced to live with. Nearby there is a gratuitously large log cabin. From an open window the smell of fresh baked goods fills the air in the forest. The squirrels wouldn't dare steal food from the humans, there's bound to be something delicious in there. Then again, they won't approach it for a reason. And squirrels are quite stupid, maybe he could find something to eat in their nests instead. Being a jerboa, he's not very good at climbing, so they could easily out maneuver him in the tree tops.
Suggest an action.

I vote we go mess with the humans, as greedy as the squirrels are messing with them in their own habitat seems like a bad idea and the humans may not even notice us if we're quick!

What is a jerboa doing so far away from the desert?

Perhaps you can find a squirrel's nut stash buried in the ground

Squirrels are dumb, but not so much that they would put their stash some place he could easily find it. Besides, he's searched before and came up empty-handed.

Jerry looks up at the house and remembers the days of being a pet, and his escape two years ago. He should be able to navigate a house better than any squirrel could. But, the cabin has many entrances, there's a doggy door, windows on all sides, 2 in the front, and one small window in the back that leads to the basement. Under the steps there is also a small whole he could squeeze through, but he doesn't know where it leads. Jerry contemplates his point of attack.

Doggy door means dog or cat. Take the window that leads to the basement.

>Doggy door means dog or cat. Take the window that leads to the basement.

Pets tend to eat things like Jerry, he figures the basement window is the safest bet, it's doubtful any humans would be in there.
It's dark in the basement, but Jerrie's nocturnal eyes can see fine. There's several boxes stacked at the back of the room, and a large sack of something under the stairs next to a box that says "CHRISTMASS". The shelves make an easy way to get down, as Jerry can survive very large falls.
He hears foot steps and human laughing from the floor above him.

Well, okay, you can get down there. The important question is, can you get back up afterwards? If you can't, don't venture down, try another entrance.

If you do go down, check the bag.

The shelf is quite high, be Jerry figures he could jump to it from the box, or at least climb up the support beam next to the shelf.
>>460046
Upon closer inspection, Jerry finds that the bag says "Dog Food", there's a small whole in the corner of the bag. It looks as if some of the food has been taken out. It bothers him slightly that the whole in the bag is next to a small whole chewed into the wall. There is still plenty of dog food, however its quite bad, and he'd prefer something a bit more filling, if he's going to survive the winter off of it, but taking some wouldn't hurt. He just needs a way of carrying it, taking it bit by bit would take the whole night.

Something made that hole. And that other hole. Something with teeth! Exercise caution.
