Well, this is it. I'm finally on my way. No more rules, no more chores, no more getting yelled at.

Just me and freedom.

I take the bus all the way to the last stop.

I had a little trouble with the bus driver, but I managed to convince him I was visiting my aunt. Just offering to give him my parents'
number so he could check was enough for him to wave me off and send me on my way.

Now, the only question is... which way should that be?

What supplies do you have on hand? Unless you say otherwise, I'm going to assume you aren't equipped to pull a My Side of the Mountain and live in the woods. You're probably better off following Konigsburg's model and finding someplace in the city to run away to and survive inside.

I'll just let you know right now, you're not gonna like living on your own.

Do you have any friends you can mooch off of? Any estranged relatives you can do odd jobs for to get money to buy food? Any knowledge of wilderness survival?

If the answer to all those questions is no, go to the woods. At least nobody will rape you there.

I packed all the essentials. A jacket and some pants in case I get cold, three pairs of clean underwear, an apple, granola bar, water bottle and a bag of my favorite teriyaki beef jerky, some cash, and my trusty pocket knife.

All stowed safely inside my most prized possession, my TMNT backpack.

No friends, no relatives around here that I know of, anyway, but I do know a bit about survival. I practically live in the woods in our back- ...I mean, lived in the woods in my old backyard.

Yeah? What are your plans when winter rolls around? I see evergreen trees- so you're in part of the world where that will be a problem.

You could make it in the woods, for a short while, but not long term. Critically, you need to be able to harvest wood (fire, shelter), and to light a fire.

I decide to take a chance and try to make it in the woods. I never liked people much. Winter's still a ways away... But if things get too rough I can always head back to town, right?

I've been walking for over an hour now. It's gotten very quiet... unnaturally quiet. The only sounds I can hear are my own footsteps. It's a bit unnerving.

Also: what is the situation you ran away from? How long till you are likely to be noticed missing? We're going to want to get deep enough in the woods, and away from standard trails, that an attempted search doesn't find you if local authorities go looking.

I'm not really sure how long 'til my parents notice I'm missing... like I said I spend most of my time in the woods, sometimes I even sleep there. I don't really check in much except to get food so I doubt they'll notice for a while, at least.

I gotta say, though, these woods are a lot creepier than my old ones... it's so quiet and muggy. Like the calm before a

You need to get under something for protection from the rain, and off the ground, if possible.

Welp. Injured, if not dead, at the bottom of a cliff in a thunderstorm. We'll looking at potential blood loss, loss of supplies, broken bones, head injury, immobility, sickness, hypothermia, and/or death.

(I suppose if we'd gone city, he'd have run in front of a bus).

First rule to living on your own in like this is there's no one to help you to fuck up. You therefore need to keep your head and remain calm no matter what. Panic will only get you killed.

Wake up, and asses your situation, if you still can.

S-sorry for freaking out, guys. I just... I really really hate thunder storms. Ever since I was little.

But I t-think I'm okay. My head hurts a little... there's some blood but I don't think it's bad. It's already dry.

My ankle hurts a lot, though. I can still put weight on it so I don't think it's broken but I'm not gonna be getting very far. I have a few other bumps and scrapes but I was lucky.

I think I've been out for a while. The sun's a lot lower in the sky and it's not storming anymore, just sprinkling. Speaking of which, I'm soaked.
>>
No. 467714 ID: 14bafe

Step one: dry off. We don't need you catching hypothermia.

I'm not sure how far I ran, but I think I ran in a pretty straight line... unfortunately I can't see any way back up that cliff and I'm not gonna try climbing it with my ankle like this. I think I can manage to dry off, though.

My backpack kept my stuff pretty dry so I think I'll be okay for a while. My apple got as bruised up as I did on the way down so I ate it.

Now... I can walk but I don't think I'll make it very far. What do you guys think? Should I try finding a way back or look for shelter?
>>
No. 473330 ID: 6cc859

No point finding a way back; here is as good as there. Just look for a tree with a nice big dry spot under it you can take shelter under.
>>
No. 473331 ID: 9263d6

Look for safe shelter for the night, and anything interesting in the immediate area.
It also might be a good idea to find a source of water.
>>
No. 474790 ID: f523b1

Looking for shelter is the way to go here; you were intending on running away in the first place AND you have a hurt leg. Thus, you are better prepared for staying in a cave or something than trying to climb a cliff.

By the way, try to find a cave or something.
>>
No. 474843 ID: 28da54

Ok, no more eating your food unless you're super hungry. Don't wanna run out. So, find yourself a cave.

You ever read Hatchet?
We're doing this thing. We're making this happen.

It's pretty dry under here. Not exactly cozy, but it'll do. It feels good to be off my feet.

Nope, I've never even heard of Hatchet. Is it about survival or somethin? Maybe I'll look it up if I ever get a chance sometime. ...I don't know when that would be, though.

I think I'm gonna stay here for a bit and rest up. Got any questions for me in the meantime?

Also why do you spend most of your times in the woods? Don't you have school to go to or friends to play with?

476606

I planned it. Nothin' really happened, I dunno... It seems like nothing ever happens. That's one of the reasons I wanted to get away. I'm a man, and a man needs adventure.

I have school but it's still summer, just barely. That's why I left when I did. I can't take another year of sitting at a desk for 8 hours memorizing numbers and random facts. I wanna have something real. I wanna experience the world, not hear about it from some tool in a cheap suit who couldn't survive one night outdoors without a pop tent and a million different gadgets. You know? I guess some of my classmates are okay but they only want to talk about video games and stuff. I don't care about that, so I don't really have any good friends.

I know a few different plants, like Queen Anne's Lace and Sorrel and Huckleberries. I'm no expert or anything, though. I can make a couple of different snares. I've caught a few rabbits and squirrels and a raccoon one time. My mom never liked me trapping 'em though 'cause she said it was cruel. But I know enough to survive, I think. I wish I coulda brought my wrist rocket, but my dad took it away when I accidentally broke the shed window...
