You, the gray nomad. Wise leader and noble leader of the once powerful nomads beyond the black stump. A gradual decline has left you as the last of your people, a relic of a time long gone.

Lately however, you have had a feeling of evil spirits sapping at your very life. So called doctors have labelled it as malignant melanoma but you know better. If there is one thing you agree with it is that you are not long for this world if swift action is not taken. With you, your peoples history and tradition goes too. As you die, so does it.

In your days you have never encountered something like this, the purest evil you have ever sensed. Nothing you know of could possibly counter an evil so great. You must search for a raw power equal to it.

You have taken to the grand ocean, a land once revered for it's spiritual properties now sunken. Known as 'the pacific' to most you know it as your last hope.

Desperate to rid yourself of this evil. What is your first course of action now you are in the ocean.

As, if.

The charts of this ocean are all wrong, made by those who are blind to the world. There are no real charts of this ocean. You will be making them yourself.

Well, there is one. During the peak of your time a strapping young lad charted some of the reefs around the ocean. So you will use this as your base.

It looks like the only real way out is through a thing passage, maybe this is of significance? Maybe it is a trap?

So it seems you need to pass through some sort of barrier reef out into the open ocean. You might want to scout out around the opening, be wary of strong tides or brigands.

You wade across the shallow waters of the reef to the pass. There's a spiritual construct, you haven't seen one of these in years. Nor a pink one. It looks much older than it really should be, since you were the first to create one and that was over 60 years ago. This looks like it's from the colonial era!

>>537670

Where you're going there won't be a need for a sky. Spiritual constructs play havoc on reality.

A clock however, is what the sky becomes.

You leave the construct and go back to the boat.

What would this accomplish exactly. You are 40 or so kilometres out to sea. You are over 70 years old. It was hard enough for you to wade one kilometre on a shallow reef.

Ah well, You suppose the construct could use more inspecting, that is the closest 'shore' there is.

(Suggest a thing to close up on, or go back to the boat and make a plan.)
>>
No. 537952 ID: 96c896

So uh, the exit is too shallow... can you make anything to deepen it? Or something to temporarily shrink your boat?

If possible, disembark on the shore next to one of those big poles, to inspect the construct more closely. Maybe you can find out what it does.

You might as well get as close as possible to see if you can deduce what it does, otherwise go through the portal. ADVENTURE.

On closer inspection: The construct uses a basic set up. Two enchanted logs and a carved golden bracket on one of these logs.

This one says...Well, you don't know. You can make out symbols for 'shorten' and 'voyage'. There are at least 2 other symbols here you just don't know. You've never had dealings with them!

Activating a mysterious construct is not a good idea, luckily you brought your journal...

Yes, it's just a clipboard. You were young and foolish when you bound it to yourself. Nonetheless, it serves it's purpose superbly. Any paper clipped (or strung...man that's a pain fiddling with that string) will change to any document that you so desire. Even ones you have not read. This...'tome'...has given you more information than anything in the world. It is your prized possession and the reason you were able to rise to power.

You string some paper on it to reveal what these symbols are. Oh, that big mess is only one symbol, how queer. It means wave.

With this you gather the construct says 'shorten wave voyage'. Sloppy grammar but does the trick. This is your cheap ticket to exploring the secrets of the hidden ocean.

Now about getting the boat here. You may be able to shrink the boat with the construct you have on it. Changing the symbols alters the effect.

Your knowledge of these symbols is limited. In your time you only came across 13, and this new one! They were: Shorten, Voyage, Fire, Hole, Alien, Blue, Red, Structure, Spirit, Alcohol, Clean, Scatter and Invert. And now wave. A combination of these is going to get your boat to the construct.

Sounds like a solid plan. Short and to the point, even if using more symbols to get a more specific outcome is better and more powerful.

You set up three silver weights and put the symbols nearby, this is a cheap and relatively easy spiritual construct.

You activate it by tracing the 'spirit' symbol in the centre of the construct.

OH HEAVENS NO.

NOT WHAT YOU WANTED AT ALL.

You have successfully shortened the distance it takes to get to one end of the structure to the other. Altering space so that just two steps goes across the whole boat, not changing it's size however.

You deactivate this. Maybe you need to use more symbols to get a more specific and powerful result.

Okay, so what's the execution model here? Trace the spiral to activate.. does the spiral define the target object? Or the paper? Is the paper just auxiliary and it's the concept that matters? What binds the paper to the spiral? Why three corners? Why did that shorten the boat and not the table? Or the ocean? Is there a power cost? Are spell-sentences configurable at cast-time? Do words have mystical meaning or are they just plain straightforward? Is "blue wave" a wave of water or a wave of blue paint? Are there distinctions between kinds of words (modifier-words, thing-words)? Does every spell need a verb? What does "invert wave" do? What does "scatter wave" do? What does "scatter shorten" do? What happens if there's a syntax error? Are there syntax-errors? Are sentences evaluated start to end or all-at-once? Why does magic care about those symbols at all? Who made them? Who found them, and how?

You know. Basic knowledge.

One thing to note about this language is that it is not just an abstract concept but a sentient concept. It needs to interpret what you write in order to do anything. And it has a personality. Be warned, it may misinterpret on purpose.
It also is taxing upon it to think, vague and open sentences are very inefficient, precise ones are not.

Symbols: Mystical symbols that when used together in a sentence have greater effects.
Sentences: a string of symbols used in a construct to have an effect on the environment. Once set, a sentence may not be changed without deactivating the construct it is attached to.
Constructs: The medium in which sentences work. Activated by tracing the 'spirit' symbol on or near them. Their range can be effected by symbols, otherwise it is within the bounds of the construct. Constructs must have at least 3 points to have an area. Or be a golden ring.

All sentences have a cost, they take spirit. The cost is defined by the complexity of a sentence, which symbols are used and the range of the construct.

1) Shorten: Modifier symbol, used to spatially shorten whatever it is defined to. Without correct punctuation or bridging words it will always effect what comes after it.

2) Voyage: A highly contextual descriptor or condition, refers to the act of moving with intent. Can be used to limit the activity of a construct to when the targeted symbol is 'on a voyage' or moving with a purpose.

3) Fire: Fire refers to energy of any variety barring spiritual. It can be used to summon, modify, describe or with the use of other symbols be a condition. An incredibly versatile Symbol. It however, needs descriptor functions of it's own accord to summon or modify correctly, else you may get the wrong kind of energy. (Energy types scale in cost, strong nuclear energy is a high cost, kinetic less so.)

4) Hole: A pure descriptive modifier. It describes a hole. Descriptors can be added to it in order to define what kind of hole, otherwise it assumes a spatial hole and will form a hole somewhere on it. Normally the path of least resistance.

5) Alien: This symbol describes anything that is not in the constructs range at the time of activation. Excluding light. It can be modified to have exceptions like wind and small gnats, otherwise it will be triggered and target these. (no you do not have the correct symbols to list exceptions right now)

6) Blue: A wild card. Highly contextual this can effect psyche effecting sentences drastically right down to colouring things blue. Be warned, wild cards being contextual draw energy from the person that activates it, easily killing the unprepared.

7) Red: A wild card. Highly contextual this can effect movement effecting sentences drastically right down to making you blush. Be warned, wild cards being contextual draw energy from the person that activates it, easily killing the unprepared.

8) Structure: A noun. Refers to an extended contextual range for a construct. Without this it will only go within it's bounds. Highly contextual, with a low cost. This will generally 'get' what you are after and not misunderstand.

9) Spirit: Special condition or descriptive. Refers to the universal energy that powers every construct. This is a dangerous symbol to use casually as it may just piss it off. In other contexts this can describe the undead as a modifier or descriptor.

10) Alcohol: Noun, refers to any alcoholic beverage contained in a cylindrical or otherwise curved container. Basically, enchant your booze.

11) Clean: Global modifier. Removes all other symbols.

12) Scatter: Describing modifier, a contextualised dispersing effect is applied to whatever comes after this symbol.

13) Invert: Modifier, inverts the meaning or effect of what comes after this symbol. Meaning or effect is contextual and is highly unpredictable. Invert has a nasty attribute of corrupting sentences and is not recommended to be used many times in one sentence.

14) Wave: Noun or descriptor. Refers to moving liquids. With a fire symbol can be used to make liquid move.

Um... I don't see anything that will let us make the boat work better in shallow water. Would "fire wave hole" make a waterjet?
>>
No. 538622 ID: c23ab0

Red Hole Voyage

I think we want something like a channel through the shallow waters that the boat can go. So my suggestion would be Hole Voyage, or if that's not clear enough, Invert Shorten Hole Voyage, to dig a channel the water will then naturally fill.

No. Not like this it won't. Like this it will kill you.

And here's how: The fire and wave part of the sentence is great as is, tells the fire (energy) to target wave (moving water). This can come out as applying fire to wave, or modifying wave so that only the most energetic is targeted by the next part.

Not a waterjet. But still not deadly. Hole however, makes it kill you. Hole at the end makes no sense to it, so it places it at the start to make it work. This tells a hole, to target only the most energetic moving liquid.

Within the range of the construct. The only liquid in this range is the blood in your hand. Magic has this nasty habit of travelling through a body if one part is effected. Giving the result of a literal hole in spatial reality forming in any part of you that is moving liquid. Panicking makes it worse as that would make it move faster now wouldn't it.

Good thing you didn't do that.

Here we have the problem simplified.

Hole Voyage might work. With a little editing. As it stands if you put this to effect the rise (setting up an area around the shallowest parts) it would only put holes in things moving with purpose, or you.

What will make it only target things that aren't moving with purpose, or, things that are only from it's local area?

Ah. Alien Inverse Water Hole Voyage Structure. Right?
>>
No. 538839 ID: c23ab0

>>538793

I was hoping that it would make the hole move with purpose, thus a guided channel. Making holes in moving things is workable though. Just inverse the voyage I'd think

Hole Inverse Voyage

If you set that up on your boat, will it put holes in the shallow land before the boat, but not the boat itself as the boat is moving with purpose now? A spiritual plough, so to speak.

You might want to test this on a toy boat before risking grounding your only vessel.
