Here's the truncated version of events so far : My village is afflicted with the Everplauge, for which there is no known cure. As bad as it was before, things have gotten worse; much worse. With death counts risingv and the number of healthy people rapidly declinIng, I'm one of the few left who can do anything. So I'm setting off in hopes of finding either the source of the plauge , or finding a cure

But to answer your question, we haven't spoken before, at least, not you and I. But I've spoken to voices LIKE you before, even if this group is new. I know a bit about your world, although it seems your group is ignorent of mine. I suppose if you all are going to help me though, you'll have questions first. Is there anything you all wanna know before we set off?

Okay, let's go through the list:
What are you?
what skills/powers do you have?
any enemies we should know about?
any knowledge of the area?
Anyone know of any other things we should ask?

1) Your kind call us ''Cyclopse" , because of the clopping sound our hooves make I think!
2) From past encounters I've gathered that my kind lives much longer than yours, sleeps much less, and much stronger, physically. We also have incredible endurance by comparrison, & our hands are much thicker & hardier than yours
>>562563
Okay so this is kinda complex but I'll try to explain. About onLe every 500 years or so, a child will be born with the ability to reach out to your world, like a kind of bridge. The phenomenon is commonly known, but very few can use it.
>>562558
I know the area around the village, but not the surrounding lands. Elder Marie had a map though, one with far off lands and such! She's quiet ill though, and was recently taken to the west half of the village, across the river. The map may still be in her den though!

As far as enemies go, I can think of 1: the Bansheak
About half the size of a horned cyclopse, the blood-sucking, disease ridden creatures have become a problem lately. While previously they weren't a major threat, they're begining to outnumber us with the increase of the Everplauge. We're fending off the hunters for now, but no one knows how long it'll last. If they were to swarm, if a nest mother were to attack, I doubt our village would recover, if it even survived
>>

Everplauge? Is this some kind of disease or plague? If so, are you affected by it? If not, why not?

How is your education and what is the general world-view of your people like (in our terms if you already know our kind)? Are you familiar with concepts like 'contagion' where disease may be caused by tiny creatures too small to see individually attacking your insides?
>>
No. 562606 ID: 53ba34

I'm trying to remember what your kind has told me before. I know that I'm immune, we think it has to do with being The Bridge. From what I remember it's not a real plauge I was told, because it's not uh. Con-contaguh, uh. It doesn't spread by people we don't think. We haven't mastered your magics of smaller particals, but normal cures don't work. We tried your world's "penicillin" but. It had no effect. Traditional healing magics don't seem to work either, but I can describe the sympotoms if that would help
>>
No. 562614 ID: 53ba34

sounds like a magical plague then. stil, it would need a way to transmit.
>>
No. 562772 ID: 379075

>>562614
No, apparently it's a plauge. I don't know what a plauge is either but Clover seems to be sure that it's a plauge instead of a plague. We don't know enough about either 'magic' or this plauge to be certain that it's magical either: Disease symptoms express for any number of reasons, including allergies and toxic exposures, pest bites and their poisons, malnutrition, too much sunlight, not enough sunlight, and just having the wrong heredity (to give an incomplete list). Penicillin wouldn't work against microbe-caused conditions if they were induced by resistant bacteria, fungi, virii, animal or plant parasites, and problems due to imbalance in one's microbial residents (including ones you need dying out). Medicine and diagnosis is pretty complicated, and we don't seem to have a CDC lab on hand to tell us what's really going on here.

Who in your world is a medical expert competent to say what this plauge is, and what its treatment(s) may be? It seems like your best course of action, if you're immune, is to go seek out experts that can help diagnose what's causing the problems. I could be wrong about that if there's something 'magic' I don't know about which would be more helpful and/or accessible though.

Aaah, I'm sorry but I didn't really catch most of what you said there. The magics of your world are... complex, and hard for me to understand.
That does give me an idea though! I've heard sleep-tales and stories about ancient sages who live in the mountains to the west, older and wuser than the rocks they live on! Surely they would know something of what plights my village, a cure, or a source or something of that nature! So I guess unless there are anymore questions we should pack up and head out!

>>
No. 565660 ID: 4a75fa

Are you skilled in the use of any kind of tool or weapon that might be worth bringing?

If not, a knife or blade is a good general use item. A source of light, or means to start a fire might be useful if this is going to take more than one day. Rope or cord is also something with a lot of uses. You have food, what about a container for carrying water?

I dunno what I would do without you guys I was about to walk out of here without much more than a sack of food and The Crown

>>565610
We do have spears of sorts but I'm not big on deadly weapons. I have been trained to some extent to use a stave though! Handy enough to fend off wild animals. I also know how to use a sling but stones for ammo will take up some space, so you guys decide on whether or not that's worth it.

>>565660
Most of the stuff you're talking about is probably in Lilabella's hut, they're a crafter so they make things like cord and skinning knives and stuff. We're lucky they live on the west side of the river so we won't have to cross it. I'm trying to picture a map for you guys so you can see where we're headed, I hope it's coming out okay.

As for light, I have my own personal firestones with me right now, I can pack them before we go.

Water though, water isn't really safe to drink unless it's running. We store fermented fruit juices which keep and don't make you sick, but they "inebriate" you if you drink them, aka it'll interfere with talking to you guys so I'm not sure that's such a good idea. Without a cleric to clean the water I don't see much of a way to pack it out. I can take a long drink from the river before we leave, but that's about it
>>
No. 565693 ID: 53ba34

we know how to clean water, but i doubt a bag can keep it clean. need something that is airtight to store it in.
>>
No. 565694 ID: 9b57d3

Bring a stave and some sort of small cutting tool.

Can't you get the same sort of container they keep the juice in, and fill it with river water? It would be for emergencies. I expect during the journey you would try to stay near rivers and streams.

What are your plans for when you need to sleep in the wilderness?
>>
No. 565696 ID: 4a75fa

Oh, the wine's safer to drink than the water.

There are several ways around that. One would be to plan the journey along, or crossing paths with, running water. Or if you have a metal container, water can be made safe if you use fire to boil it. Or there's a half measure where you dilute spirits with water (a compromise between trying to make it last longer, inebriate yourself less, and kill off anything in the water you use).

Whether or not it's worth carrying stones would depend on the terrain. Are you going to be traveling where a stone or stones will be easier to pick up when you need them?

And yes we can see your visualized map.

I'm gonna make a checklist to keep track of all this stuff, so we don't forget anything importent when we leave!

>>565696
I'll most likely try to find a tree or brush of some kind near the river bank so I can stash my supplies and sleep with my back to the river. If all else fails I can always dig a hole in the ground though!
For the first couple of days I'll travel along the river you see in the map, north (to the left) towards a nearby village. The terrain in mostly grassland so there may be some rocks littered about but chances are there won't be an abundance of sling stones if we need them.
The idea for half and half though, that actually sounds really good. The water should keep longer and I won't loose contanct with you guys! At least, I hope not. We should consider bringing some for the trip.

>>565694
I'll most likely try to find a tree or brush near the river bed so I can stash my stuff safetly and sleep with one side protected. If all else fails though, Cyclopse are fairly good at digging holes

>>565693
I can clean water as well, but I would need a vessel to heat it in and I can't exactly bring a clay pot with me, they aren't really known forntheir durability

Metal is actually quite rare here. We collected and used the majority of all sources near by. Occasionally the sky will gift us with more, and if one is lucky enough to see such a sight and survive, it is said to bring enlightenment. We send out great parties to collect and retrieve any and all sky rocks we find. There's often a feast and celebration to go with. This is rare though, and metal is much too scarce to use on simple pots and pans
>>
No. 566349 ID: 53ba34

collect? you only used surface metals? below the surface, under the dirt and rock, should be plenty. but no time for that now. guess we gotta make do.

Don't mistake our simplicity for stupidity, our race has had contact with yours for over five generations, we've known about mining for quite some time. Unfortunately we live in grasslands, there are no real caves, no sink holes in which to mine, and our fires don't burn hot enough to make the right tools. We have make the iron soft, but we can't melt it into a mold, so our tools are brittle, and break easily. Still, you're right, it's time to make do and get out of here.

There may be subterranean metal, but we don't know if it's in useful quantities, at depths they can reach, or in a form they can refine or use.

No use wishing for things we don't have, or making plans we can't implement, though. That list is fine, for now.
