“This.”
“That… and that,”
“That again, like this…”
“Make it like this…” “Good now that.”
Cybhira protests “This is…”
“I know. There we go.”
You lose consciousness again. Time and space seem loose and faraway concepts, except there is pain. You once even think you’re facing a darkness – not another reincarnation, but a void beyond the Universe, a coffin your hands tied and all the parts of life floating around you waiting to be materialized as another live experience. But then the Other grabs a hold of you again and opens the coffin. Your senses drain back in a flush of light.
“There, he should be back from the box again. Well done Cybhira, have you considered qualifying as a medical professional for your next assignment? Now look, his eyes are open.”

“Fish… Blurrrbl. That… Promethea. Where? What? That is, the crash happened – how did everything go? Pililly? Pililly? Pililly? bluaarh”

“Um…”

“Pililly, Pililly… Pilily you operated me. Don’t know if thanks or am confused. I am.”

“They’re always a little bit funny after the box. This is more like sad. Don’t you giggle Cybhira, it could have been you as well. It’s no joke. As to where we are…”

“Yes Pillillylli bluarbh?”

“Indeed. The plasma shield dug a deep hole in the middle of the Pandil city. It overheated and consumed all power and the power set also melted. We’re running on emergency power. We cut the ground diagonally and bounced up a little bit from a more heatresistant layer when the shield started to weaken. Then we stopped and the momentum threw you to the side of the pilot’s cabin. You never used the safety belt. As for what now, we could just walk out of the cave by cutting a plating open... Cybhira knows how. I could identify the lasers coming from Dama weaponry.”

“Achalonian lasers?”

“Yes.”

“Fishfuck. How much biomass do we have?”

“Biomass?”

“Nevermind.”

Cybhira seems to catch the meaning of my words, but stays silent with an effort, until she breaks the silence asking, “Something that we have in Utzi heaven?”

“Shame on you Cybhira. The last thing I want to hear now is about Madman Genesis.” Pililly presumably seems to swallow the bait and slips off the concept of biomass, before concluding her thoughts. “I would like to hear your ideas over the next course of action Numina-Captain.”

"We've had fun learning the hard way that the Achalonians are fully established here despite the monitoring mission that was supposed to control outside influences. Sadly, I suspect our mission and our lives are low priority for command unless we can somehow find something worth their attention or do something about the Achalonian problems ourselves. I'm thinking autonomous self-replicating combat robots here, as dangerous as that might be. Does anyone else have a more sensible idea that might also work to get us out of this alive?"

Cybhira and Pililly just look at each other before Cybhira replies, “I can do better than killer drones, I can do a localized nanobot exterminator swarm Captain. Harder to control, less structural damage, unstoppable by normal weapons and executable with less ship materials abused.”

“We absolutely cannot exterminate anyone before we know exactly what’s going on there!” Pililly objects.

"Yes, yes, I generally agree Pililly. It would be very bad form if not an outright mission failure to murder the natives that we're trying to get on our side. I'd rather not if there's any other viable choice. That's why I suggested drones instead of a nanobot swarm. On the other hand with a little bit of tinkering we might be able to build some discrimination to avoid eating the Pandils. But just how out of control are we talking about Cybhira? For one thing we need intelligence just as much as we need defensive capabilities, and eating their homes, possessions, crops and livestock might not be enough of an improvement."

Cybhira replies,
"Well Captain, the ship is equipped with the basic industrial model nano-forge. We were denied access to pure advanced tech that they have on starships. I know a few exploits that cause the bots behave destructively. This is a coarse structural feature, not programmable or anyways subjective to remote controls.

Yes...The bots won't be able to distinguish between a friend or foe, but their lifespan can be adjusted. I wouldn't dare to make them self-replicate indefinitely. That would be the same as nuking the place. The bots would cause disease-like effects, bleeding and pain. That would make them think twice. There's a risk that the Pandils won't know how to prevent the bots from spreading to the whole city like a pandemic. Pandils, hmm. That's the risk with spreading the bots by air."
