Just as a little forewarning, this'll be getting NSFW.

You are Audrey, and hoo boy you could not possibly be more frustrated right now. You have spent the last four hours trying to solve this God-forsaken damage-calculation bug.

You make a small tweak to the code. You pray that it works this time…

You watch in mortification as your randomly generated heroine's arrow of light does a whopping "1" damage before being one-shotted by the heavily armored devil. Then she ragdolls and clips through the floor, tumbling into the endless grey void. You'll need to address that too. You sigh in aggravation.

Everyone left hours ago, you're hungry but you've eaten the last hot pocket in the office fridge (NOTE: Buy more hot pockets), your eyes burn from staring at this damage-calculation code for so long, and worst of all you're pretty sure Tabletop Night started thirty minutes ago. You promised Emily that'd you'd make it on-time this time, but here you are, yet again plugging away at a deceptively simple bug while everyone waits for you to show up to DM. They're probably playing some video game or something instead of traversing your carefully-crafted dungeon.

You sigh again. There will be time for that later. Just need to fix this bug.

You glance sideways to your rubber duck, who's sitting on his perch atop a pile of recently-consumed energy drink cans. Sometimes you talk to him while you're debugging. They say talking through your code with a rubber duck helps you figure out what's wrong with it. Mostly you just end up blaming the duck for whatever you're having trouble with.

You've named the duck Job. All the abuses you've heaped on him, and he's still the most faithful assistant in your office.

Look at that smug face. You know he has to know something.

A) Yell at him! This is all your fault!
B) You've had enough of his nonsense! Throw him out the nearest window!
C) You need to calm down. Grab and go outside and get some fresh air.
D) Actually try walk through the code with him. You're sure if you just talk it out, you'll get to the bottom of this.

DM's writing a quest about a girl that must go and DM? Shits gonna get meta quick.

Anyway, start yelling at duck about problems in the code, realize you just found problems in the code.realize they're completely different problems from the one you're trying to fix

You decide to go outside for fresh air...

...Then proceed to spend another hour trying to fix the bug anyway. You find at least five or six more bugs, none of which are even slightly related to the one you're trying to fix.

You briefly contemplate trying to use your thighs to decapitate Job, but you won't because that would be stupid. Seriously, how would that even work? He's made of like… soft rubber or something. Weird intrusive thoughts are weird.

Maybe getting some fresh air would be good. You grab Job and head downstairs, walk straight out the door, and plant yourself on a bench under one of the outdoor lights.

You look down at Job in your hand. He's no help. Why is game development so hard? Every time you fix something, ten more things break. You've swear you've been plugging away at just the damage calculations and balance for the last week at least. You don't know. It's all started to kind of blend together.

You wonder if it'll be ready to ship by the time the Kickstarter money runs out. You hope so, but with how slowly at lot of the core features are getting done, you're not so sure. You guess if it isn't you could always hit up Early Access, but the Kickstarter money was supposed to cover the entire development budget! The backers are gonna be so mad!

You grit your teeth and look back down at Job. Still nothing. What the hell is his problem! A fix like this should be simple! Where are the ANSWERS, Job! This is supposed to be your passion! It's not supposed to make you miserable like this!

…Job looks back up at you, smiling vapidly.

You step into your car, put the key in the ignition and start driving. You think for a little while about possible solutions to the bug. Maybe post snippets online? You contemplate triple-checking the stats on the devil. Your eyes dart to Job, scuffed a little bit from bouncing off the ground. You sigh and decide to try not to think about it for now.

You wonder what everyone's doing right now, given that they've probably given up on you actually showing up at this point. Hopefully nothing too ludicrous. Things get sort of… wild when everyone gets together and you're not there to reign it in.

Eh, you suppose they're probably just playing video games or something. You pull into the parking lot of your apartment complex.

Emily: "Well, I don't think it's nice for her to obsess over work when we took the time for her tabletop session, but we can't judge her for having her own life.

We could play our own 'minigames' and then convince her to factor in our results. That way we still get to play and get some progress out of it."
