Congratulations on your purchase of a SteveCo Mark II Automated Species Uplift Kit! My name is Obelisk, and I'm the virtual intelligence that runs the kit. I handle the fine details of nurturing your chosen species from simple creaturehood to a full-fledged, spacefaring race, ready to join your INSERT GOVERNMENT TYPE HERE as a productive member of society.

I see you've already selected the species you wish to deploy on this planet. Once you've finished the setup process, I'll create and deploy enough of these creatures to one day dominate all other species on this planet.

Before I can get things started, though, I need you to answer a few questions about this planet. I'll use this information to further adapt your chosen species and direct their evolution. Please choose one of the following that best describes the indigenous species:

* Creatures are typically social, with aggressive predators few and far between. Adaptations will focus on increasing the species' ability to successfully coexist with other species. However, this will leave the species more vulnerable to the few strong predators that do exist.

* Creatures are typically predatory, making life for herbivores dangerous and short. Adaptations will focus on increasing the species' aggression and ability to dominate other species. However, until the species is able to reach the position of apex predator, stronger predators will be difficult to appease or avoid.

* Creatures range the gamut from social to predatory, requiring the species to be adaptable. Adaptations will focus on increasing the species' survivability, with a balance struck between coexistence and predation. However, the species will not be as well-adapted to either role as a more specialized approach.

In addition, please select one of the following adaptations for your chosen species' diet:

* Your chosen species is herbivorous. This will enhance its ability to interact peacefully with other species, but will lead to higher losses from predation.

* Your chosen species is carnivorous. This will make it more difficult to coexist with other species, but will enhance its ability to drive off predators and defend its food source.

* Your chosen species is omnivorous. This offers the most flexibility in your species' interactions with other species, with no particular advantages or drawbacks.

Finally, please enter your INSERT GOVERNMENT TYPE HERE's official designation for this planet. I'll guide your chosen species to use this as their name for the world.

Once again, thank you for your purchase. I look forward to serving you!

God dammit I've had to delete and redo this post so many times.

You've selected an omnivorous diet and an environment of largely social creatures. I'll keep that in mind as I develop your species, which you've named cutebolds! Let me just run through how I'll do that real quick.

As cutebolds deal with their environment, they'll earn evolution points, depending on how, exactly, they do so. Peaceful and social actions will earn green evolution points, while aggressive and violent actions will earn red evolution points. In time, they'll also be able to earn blue evolution points, but for now I'll let them trade one red point and one green point for two blue points.

When the cutebolds have earned enough evolution points, I'll apply an adaptation. Adaptations can improve on abilities they already have or give them entirely new ones! Each adaptation has a color and a location and costs a single evolution point of the right color to add. Improving an existing adaptation costs two evolution points the first time, three the second, and so on, all of the same color as the adaptation itself.

Based on what you've told me, I'm going to prioritize blue and green adaptations, but I won't leave them entirely defenseless. If you want to change your priorities at any time, though, just let me know!

Since you're still here, why don't you select the first few adaptations? I'll give you four evolution points of any color. Here are some suggestions for how to spend them:

* Red evolution points can be spent to make the cutebolds more able to take down enemies. You can improve their existing, if feeble, attack skills, or give them new abilities like poison spit or serrated arms. Just let me know what and where.

* Green evolution points can be spent to make the cutebolds better at making friends. Want them to be able to sing like birds? Give extra-big hugs? Have vibrant plumage? It's up to you!

* Blue evolution points can be spent to give the cutebolds all new abilities that will help them survive when fighting and friendship both fail. Want to give them natural stealth? Armored skin? The ability to soar with the eagles (or at least glide with the leaves)? I am but your humble servant.

I eagerly await your input!

If you're familiar with Spore, you can directly suggest abilities, but I'm not going to consider you limited to the ones in the game. Also, cutebolds are considered to have level 0 in Bite and Sing, even if that wouldn't be possible in the game, so improving either ability only costs one point.

2 Green, 2 Blue.
Green: Vibrant... frontal... parts.
Blue: Stealth chameleon.

(It only costs one point to add a new adaptation. You could use one blue point to add minor stealth and a green point to add minor, er, charm and still have two points left over to enhance one or the other (or to get two other adaptations if you wanted).)

Everything into singing and stealth.
Charm everything we can, and hide from everything else.

(You can't put two points into an adaptation; it's either one to create it or three to create it and enhance it. Just pick one or the other to focus on.)

3 points into stealth
1 into sing
We'll be earning plenty of green most likely but we'll need to earn red if we want to make more blue, so lean more to blue in character creation.

You are a kobold, and you are very confused.

The last thing you remember, you were relaxing after a long day of eking out a meager existence in the forests of your tribe, staring up at the stars, sitting in the grass, and thinking about nothing in particular. Then a dark shape moved across the stars, and before you could react, there was a bright light and a sensation of weightlessness.

Now you're here, standing on the edge of a grove of trees next to a sandy beach. You're relatively certain this is not near your village, given that the trees and bushes are unfamiliar, bearing a reddish fruit you've never seen before.

Also, the grass is rust red, the water is a strange pale blue, and the sky is pink. Those are other important clues.

Try and pull growths out of each other's face. Fail.

Discover growth-touching is kind of pleasurable, and devolve into an impromptu nose-touching session.

Wonder where all these kids suddenly came from.

(While I work on some icons so I don't have to spend two or three hours arting for every single update, why don't you fine folks help me out? All told, there are six members of the tribe at present (at least, that's how many got deposited on this unknown world). I want you to start throwing out suggestions for their names. I'll pick the ones I like best and assign them to the six as I feel best suits their personalities. Then my next art post will give you the run down.)
