Alone in this darkness.

Floating in timelessness.

Nothing to disturb me.

All I can recall is my name, Tristan.

But there is a moment.

Where this peaceful darkness is disturbed by a crack coming through.

Is it a RESCUE? SOMEONE ELSE’S OPPORTUNITY Or just MERE CHANCE?

Should I APPROACH this crack? Or should I RETREAT back into this void?

I’ve been in here for a long time right? This is something different. I should go to it.

My hand comes closer to the crack.

Everything is so bright! I forgot, being without light for so long. My eyes hurt, streams of tears run down my cheeks.

But my ears still work and they hear voices from the blurs in front of me.

“You sure messed up Click!”

“Yeah there was nothing inside but this kin in here?”

“Is there really something valuable and powerful here or not?”

“Greetings there, now would you kindly tell what in truth is occurring right here. And stop complaining, or are you implying that I’m not powerful or valuable?” I say.

One of these creatures replies. “Hey this has nothing to do with you. We came here because Click over there said there would be something in this wreck that could help us.” The one on the right pointed to his comrade in the middle. “Who are you anyway?”

>>So, what is this, Spiral Knights?

I wonder why you voices of evil are questioning about that mad order of knights entirely focused on spinning swordsmanship..

>>Command them to take you to their leader.

Getting answers straight from the top would be a much better idea than interrogating the mere rank and file.

“Gremlins, take me to your tribal leader by the quickest and safest way. ”

Both of the similar fur colored gremlins raised their arms up and said in a euphoric way “Yes master” walking away. I think I’m out of practice, Command Minion usually doesn’t have that effect.

>>Yes, demand to be the king/leader/master/whatever.

I agree, I should be able to whip this group of gremlins into shape… but for what purpose?

The sandy colored fur gremlin seems to be resisting though, his movement is much more sluggish but he’s still following the other two.

“Cam! Pawl! Where are you two going? What’s happening to us? What did you do? Answer me!”

Huh, it might take longer to reach the larger group of gremlins if this one’s slowing us down.

Any suggestions?

You could just pick him up. He's a lot smaller than you.

Maybe you can get him to tell you a little more, on the way there. Why did they need power? If it makes him feel any better, he found someone with power.

>Command Minion usually doesn’t have that effect.
What effect does it usually have?

>“Cam! Pawl! Where are you two going? What’s happening to us? What did you do? Answer me!”
He can tell there is a control effect and is partially resisting it, therefore the control effect is unreliable and we should avoid using it when we don't have to. Relying on resistible mind control leads to a life of paranoia about the day that someone resists while pretending to obey until they can stab you in the back.
Command them to stop that, and say that you did not expect that to happen, and you were just asking to be taken to their leader. Try to convince them like a normal person, but use Command again if they get violent.

>>You could just pick him up. He's a lot smaller than you.
>> Have the others kill him. No need for a disobedient slave.

I’m not the strongest kin by any long shot. And it seems a waste to retire a minion without knowing what I’m going into unless I can bring him back somehow or maybe turn him more to my point of view. Not to mention an order to murder their comrade would likely snap those two out of it. “You two, carry the third with you.”

>>What effect does it usually have?

Of the four respectable minion races of this world, Command Minion directs affected minions to follow the orders of the caster. However this ability acts more of suggestion rather than direct controls. Furthermore the reactions of the minions and their available cognitive, motor and any individual skills vary from caster to caster due to the differing emotional and biological responses the ability alters. That some gremlins are acting more like automations like this is a sign of a really poorly skilled controller and is more a mark of embarrassment.

I really need more practice.

>>Command them to stop that, and say that you did not expect that to happen, and you were just asking to be taken to their leader. Try to convince them like a normal person, but use Command again if they get violent.

“Stop acting this matter and more in the modes of your normal behavior” I command “I only wished to be taken to your leader.”

Both respond, “Yes boss” and the larger gremlin says it with a more snarky tone than the smaller gremlin with a respectful tone. I suppose this is the best I can get until I get a better grip on Command Minion.

They raise the third member of their little party, I believe it may have been something like Click, over their heads and carry him. He struggles slightly, but stiffly.

>> Maybe you can get him to tell you a little more, on the way there. Why did they need power? If it makes him feel any better, he found someone with power.

“So why do you seek power? You’ve found one who has it, but for what purpose?”
Our journey passes by a window overlooking stretches of ruined buildings with a waterway leading farther into what seems to be an underground complex.

The yellow gremlin by the name of Click growls, but coming from a smaller thing like him. It isn’t very intimidating. “We’re being harassed by others, not that you’d care. Nobody leaves us gremlins alone. Always thinking they’re better than us. I found out there was something powerful down here that got locked up from the old Empire. But we found you.” Clicks says this with a tinge of regret.

He seems pretty skeptical of our abilities for someone we just put a spell on. We probably have other powers we will regain in time, and depending on who is causing trouble we might be able to just Command some of them to knock it off.

It was a rather long journey to where these gremlins’ tribe was located. What seems to be a cave complex mined through the side of a cliff.

I suppose what course of action I should take should be considered? Do I go directly to the top as planned? Try to judge the atmosphere of the tribe. Set up a back up plan before going in? Or maybe some other flight of whimsy?
>>
No. 706081 ID: f8aab3

Ask them how many are in the tribe. Now, they didn't seemed to intend to attack you on sight, but just in case, look for alternative escape routes once inside.

Also, try to make your minions look less suspicious, if possible, if you are having trouble to keep three of them under your control, it could be troublesome to have an entire tribe against you.

The smaller gremlin that is not Click, begins to state the current condition of the tribe.
“There are currently 66 member in our tribes. We live in these caves. There are about four main chambers with many minor tunnels that go to more specialized areas. However our living spaces are in the deepest main chamber.”

“At the moment we are divided into three factions.”

“The largest faction is the warriors, the tribe leader is also the faction leader. They want to start a war against everybody attacking us. The tribe leader is called Wrench, nobody else wants to challenge him for the leader position due to his strength. Pawl my brother is in this faction.”

“I don’t think Wrench would like you very much.”Pawl said

“Then there is the mystics faction. I don’t know much about them. Apparently they’re all about the ‘old ways’ of minions. Their leader is apparently Old Sprocket. He’s the only one that’s keeping Wrench in check. He might welcome you” Cam said

“Finally there’s the technician’s faction. We believe technology and self suffiency is what would lead to our prosperity. It’s a small faction that’s mostly popular with the younger gremlins.”

Cam points to Click. “He’s the leader.”
>>
No. 711844 ID: b7dfa3

Sounds like the Mystics are the most likely to be helpful, and might know something about who you are. Try to get to them without being seen by the warriors.
>>
No. 711847 ID: 5ad4a7

Sounds like we should talk to the Mystics and then the technicians. Recruit them both and you have a fighting chance to take out Wrench and assume control over the tribe.
>>
No. 711899 ID: f461c5

Meet with the mystics, and have Click gather his technicians. They are all of course correct; technology *will* increase their (And our) standard of living, they *will* prosper under our care, and the first move towards peace with many of their prior foes is likely to be proving that they are no longer an easy target.

We dont need to kill Wrench, we just need to get past his stubbornness in proving we can make what he wants easier. Having lieutenants is important, after all.
