You seem like a perfectly serviceable sapient being to me! Eye's missing, it appears, but that's hardly an insurmountable ailment, why some of the greatest fighters I've ever known were missing an eye.
But I digress. What may we call you, good fellow?

I guess I should introduce myself??

I'm Sky. As you're voices in my head and not dragons, I guess I should explain me being a dragon and what that means.

I was born with some weird birth defect or something that gave me wings. Of course, that's not the only weird thing about me; you've probably noticed the eyepatch. Yeah, I also lost my right eye.

So I tend to stick out a lot in crowds. It's kinda annoying. You might think, "oh, I wish I had wings," but trust me, you don't. Sure, it's cool and all, but nobody's gonna be there to teach you how to use them. They're essentially useless and they get in the way, like you're always carrying a twelve foot wooden board on your back.

I'm rambling on, aren't I? Sorry. Anyway, I suppose I should ask YOU some questions; questions like, "Who are you?" and "Why can I hear you in my head?"

>>
No. 702318 ID: a22f87

well if it means anything I think your wings are beautiful but as for you questions

>Who are you
Voices... head voices... not really sure what else to say here

>Why can I hear you in my head
Don't know, maybe your the chosen one, maybe it's stress, or maybe someone decide to pull a prank on you and hit with a spell or something that resulted in us. Take your pick because at this point your guess is as good as mine.
>>
No. 702319 ID: f6442a

You wouldn't believe us if we told you, and most people regret hearing the answer. So, that's all you need to know about 'the voices,' but we still need a few more details. Such as: Where do you live? What is your purpose in life? Do you want to learn how to fly?
>>
No. 702326 ID: f3ac81

Not sure what to tell you about who we are. As for why you can hear us, we're around to help you with something. That something is not always apparent to start though. We can try to help you learn to fly until something more major decides to show itself.

There's probably some explanation for our presence, but I highly doubt that it will be relevant any time soon.

A force of change, diametrtically opposed to stasis and ennui and, uhh, usually benevolent. There's no real explanation for your second question, unfortunately, as it's not really a universal process.
Nevertheless, we'd like to help. What with, is entirely up to you, my good friend dragon.

>learning how to fly
I wanted to, but that was a while ago. I kinda gave up on the idea after about 15 years of not making any progress. Not even magic could help. Whiiiich actually brings me to:
>what do you want to do with your life
I'm just going to throw it out there and say that magic is fucking awesome. That's why I'm here actually; the "Leff Academy of the Arcane Arts," or for short, Magic School. Young dragons such as myself come here to learn how to use magic. I personally work extra hard because I dream of one day becoming a powerful mage, capable of casting giant beams of flames and earthquakes and stuff. Of course, I'm not quite there yet.
>where do you live
I live in the town of Eriff, a small place full of strange people, some you might not want to spend time around. Ever.
I have friends, of course, although the reason we're friends might be because we're all social outcasts for our own reasons.

>>
No. 702443 ID: 5ad4a7

If you never figured out how to do it after trying for that long I'm going to guess that your wings are too small for your size. You will definitely need magic. Either magic to make you lighter, or to counter the effects of gravity on you, or maybe just wind to push you up and around.

Oh, if you started hearing us when you entered the school then we're probably formed from ambient magic.
Hey, can you get that eye healed via magic?
Who's gonna be your first teacher?
You're adorable, by the way.

I really doubt that. If I were to explain why, it would probably involve an essay of explanation on how magic in this world works. I guess i'll put it into simple terms:
Mana is absorbed into the body through numerous methods, which is then used to assemble "Magic Circles," which are magical rings that contain a map for creating spells. For instance an Aether Sphere, one of the most basic spells you can learn, is composed of the elements Wind, Aether and Motion, compiled into a Utility type spell. This spell creates a sphere that you can use to carry objects or cast spells more easily. It's the first spell many magicians learn.

I should also explain that Aether is the physical form of Mana, and is only for really simple and barebone spells, or spells that involve manipulating magic.

There are 3 types of spells: Passive, which are spells that affect the caster directly, Active, which are spells that act immediately, such as projectiles or object creations, and Utility, which are spells that don't belong into any category. If you forget to use these symbols in your magic circle, it'll just...not work.

Maybe before you try learning magic you should try learning to be, like, a normal dude, who doesn't collapse in front of his friends for no reason. If you're going to go nuts and start hearing voices you could at least make an effort to hide it.

Whoa, that's more static than usual.

Okay now that we know this is a disaster scenario and not one of those social challenge situations, we need to get some information about your capabilities, Sky. What magic can you cast? What magic do you know the others can cast? What about physical combat?
>>

>something terrible is about to happen, Sky.
Oh, it's not that bad, you don't even need half of those organs!

But seriously though, when you're with us you have the absolute best protection around; plot armor quick thinking and sound advice. Whatever happens we'll keep you in good shape, or rather, tell you how to keep yourself in good shape. Heck, you might even have one of those heroes journeys or whatever, and like, grow as a person and stuff.

Are you prepared for a potential disaster? Do you have supplies? Weaponry? Reagents for doing magic junk? If for some reason you needed to suddenly go on an extended camping trip would you be ready?

Anyway, nothing bad has happened yet, so we're in the clear for now. In the meantime you may want to consider putting the moves on the pink one, or maybe the red one.

Incidentally...Weird question, but can you breath fire Sky?
She's gone. My sight appears to be returning, slowly.
Breathing fire sounds impractical, but I can use fire spells.

>What magic can you cast? What magic do you know the others can cast? What about physical combat?
Lots of magic. I'm one of the best mages in the school. I'm not the best physical wise, though. King is super strong, but he admits to being weak with magic. I've never seen Vess cast any spells, so I can't gauge her magical strength either. However, the spell Amy just cast was insanely complicated and would have taken more mana than I actually have right now. I have a feeling she's stronger and/or smarter than she lets on.
>Are you prepared for a potential disaster? Do you have supplies? Weaponry? Reagents for doing magic junk?
I could afford to get some mana crystals; I can't rely on natural mana regeneration when in a hurry.
>In the meantime you may want to consider putting the moves on the pink one, or maybe the red one.
Very funny.
...maybe you're right, though. I have no idea how the next few days or even hours will play out. I can't keep this a secret forever...

>Lots of magic. I'm one of the best mages in the school.
What would be an example of one of your better attack spells, or of your defense spells? Do you have any particular spellcasting specialty?

By the way, I noticed your Aether Sphere spell can lift things. If you made an enlarged Aether Sphere (or a lot of small ones), would you be able to lift yourself or something large enough to stand on?

I've never thought about it before, but what if I increased the complexity of the aether sphere to house a fourth element? There's so many possibilities and uses...

Oh, and for my powerful offensive spells, I should talk about this new one I came up with earlier. It involves layering a fireball spell with a shockwave spell, causing the fireball to explode into a blast of fire. Of course, when I first used it, I had to be very glad that the area was fireproof.

We don't know what bad thing is going to happen, only that it's bad. Amy told us that. We have expertise in dealing with stressful situations with a clear head, and a large amount of practical knowledge, but no knowledge of the coming events and little knowledge about how magic works in your world, unfortunately. Heck we're still learning about your world in general.

We'd like to know how good you are with magic because we want to know how capable you are in dealing with dangerous situations, if it comes to that. You could always serve a support role.

As for why I want to know what you think of your friends, well, you're gonna work as a group right? It'd be good if we know how well you get along with them. It'd also give us a different perspective on everyone, which is helpful for communication.

Also Sky thinks you're cool so I wanted to know if you feel the same way about him.

Why do you find it hard to believe that someone thinks you're cute? Okay here's the exact sequence of events. We asked him to introduce his friends, and he said:
"That dude is King. There's nothing "different" about him, but that doesn't mean he isn't a good friend."
"On the far left is Amy. She's blind, but she can still "see" through a spell called Clairvoyance."

Then we called him out on having a crush on you and he turned beet red and collapsed from embarrassment. Kindof like you're doing now.

But I mean if you don't believe us go ask him. If he's not COMPLETELY stupid he'll say yes he thinks you're cute. I mean you're about to go into a who knows how dangerous situation so you gotta seize the moment.

If you want a handy subject to change to, the reason Sky was wanting to know how good you are at magic is that us being here is a sign of Great Danger or something like that, so it is useful to know ahead of time how good you are in a fight.

everything isn't on fire and I don't hear any screaming. You got time. If you want something to start the conversation tell him you hear us and from there ask him about the things we've been saying. He'll probably deny that he said anything because he's afraid you'll say no and he'll lose any chance he has to get with you so tell him how you really feel. I mean you guys have been friends for how long? worse that could happen is you have one day or one week were things might be a little awkward and then everything goes back to normal but what most likely will happen is once he finds out you have feelings for him as well he'll come clean.

Organize a meeting spot. If Sky is already heading towards Amy, pick a halfway point between her and you, so that you get there just a little after Amy is retrieved. Then you can head for shelter.

If Sky is just kindof looking around then contact Amy yourself and relay her position to Sky.

If Amy wants to meet up she already has a good idea of where you are. I suspect she has some other way of taking cover. Maybe she hid herself in a pocket dimension or something?

The grey mottling is the mana corruption, I'm guessing? There has to be something you can do for his wounds... are they still bleeding? Maybe you can take some of the tall grass here and bind his wounds with it. I'd suggest applying pressure manually but you guys walk around on your hands and feet so that'll just get dirt in the wounds and infection is really dangerous.

Tell King that Sky shielded you from the world shattering. This place must be whatever filled the void.

Maybe you can get King to lift you up so you can see further? If you can find signs of civilization you can bring Sky there for medical treatment.

Other effects we won't be aware of until he wakes up include amnesia, dizziness, headaches, impaired vision, inability to regenerate or use mana, and other crappy stuff. Ugh, I sound like a freakin' medicine commercial.
There's what seems to be...burns?--On the entire top half of his body, like he was hit by a giant blast of fire from above. His eyepatch is gone, and his eye--erm, lack of one, is also bleeding.

Does that mean that there is medicine for that sort of thing if we can find civilization? (For that matter, does that mean you have telecommunications?

Well king is strong so have him carry sky when you start moving. As for where to go, look towards the horizon, all of them, do you see smoke or anything that might suggest people are living there.

maybe you brought everyone to a different world... or moved through time. More then likely not but since I brought it up what exactly where you trying to cast when you through that shield up? Did you try and teleport and if so did you have a destination in mind?

Also what happened to Vess? Last I saw she was trying to get the local there to actually help you since he wanted nothing to do with you on the count of your wings.

I think you shielded a small area from the end of the world. That area then wound up in a different world entirely, probably because it had nowhere else to go.

>>
No. 715648 ID: 5ad4a7

>>715633
Ohhhh, you forgot everything from last night? Including us showing up? That's really inconvenient! Maybe we can jog your memory...

Okay let's start from the beginning. At first we didn't even know why we were talking to you, so you explained a little about magic and then brought us to see your friends. We immediately caught you have a crush on Vess so let's get past that right away. Then Amy took you into the hall to talk to you in private, cast some kind of really powerful spell on you which caused your eye to go bonkers, then told you that we're known as "The Voices" and our presence meant something terrible was about to happen and this marked the beginning of your "quest".

Then we wound up switching into Vess's head, and uhhhh how about we keep our conversation with her private. Anyway, while we were talking to her, you showed up. Amy was missing, and Vess couldn't contact her via magic, so we assumed she was dealing with issues in her own way. You asked both Vess and King to donate mana so you could cast a protective spell, then cast it. The world outside the barrier seemed to shatter, then everything went black.

We woke up in Vess's head after that and you were on top of what seemed to be a circular cut-out of the floor you were standing on before the world shattered, with all the injuries you have now. Vess kinda freaked out a bit, some guy showed up and called you a "winged one" and almost refused to help, but I guess either Vess or King convinced him to help anyway.

(I just realized that due to the characters being aware of us, compared to normal quests our role is very meta here.)

Sky, We voices have real people behind them. To us.. you are literally but a story in which we have a voice, what would here be considered a work of fiction. However, Creation is infinite. Anything and everything anyone has ever dreamed, dreams, or will dream of, everything ever written and everything ever imagined, is real at some time, somewhere.

Though we may be separated by time, space, and even universes themselves, through this story. This... Quest. We have a brief window into your life in which we can communicate, and we're here to help.

By the way, you're not insane, and we can prove it.
We are part of an advanced civilization that lacks any and all magic. What we do have is knowledge, techniques, and technology. Thousands of years of it. Available at our fingertips, and to you, through our voices.

So if you think your crazy, ask us a for something you couldn't possibly know. A concept, a machine, a design for a weapon, how to turn lightning into a tool without magic. Anything. You might be surprised.

Okay so I tried to decrypt the writing in the dream, and there's really no way to do it. There's so many symbols it could be any number of things, but I guess it could be something like:

BEWARE THE BLACK R**E*
where the last three * are each different letters from the rest. RIDER doesn't work of course. It starting with BEWARE makes sense and the three symbols after that are most likely THE, then BLACK fits for the third word but I suppose it could, again, be anything that fits B*A** where the *s are different from every other letter.

OH BOY LEMME WRITE YOU A FUCKING BOOK.
Today marks the sixth time I've gone through this shit and I will never know why I keep doing it because of amnesia.
The affects, perhaps definitively because of this repeated stupidity, are very familiar to me. I'm practically an expert on it by now.

So let's go over the basic ones:

Amnesia, as established. Usually only for about 6 to 8 hours before the mana corruption takes place, but everything in that time-frame is basically a cutoff. Like it goes from there to here with nothing in-between. It's weird.
Dizziness, drowsiness, headaches, vision problems. The usual.
The nausea also kind of sucks.
More uniquely, you can't taste or smell anything when corrupted. It's like your senses just give up in that category.
Also twitching and random pain. I mean, on top of the pain that's already present. ugh.
Of course there's also the weird magical cuts (one's on my arm I can fucking feel it it hurts), and finally it's impossible to use magic under these conditions. And if you want to try anyway, well, don't say I didn't warn you.
(of course there's some other things but I'm a little worried those might be personal things so I'm gonna refrain from talking about them.)

Oh great. What do you usually do? Why do you not know what causes it, when there should be witnesses when it happens?

I blame Amy for this occurrence, by the way. She obviously did something to you. Maybe she did the same thing to you on previous occasions in order to get you to do stuff that needed a lot of mana.

It was just an enchantment. Although, being much more difficult to cast than a normal spell and that specific enchantment being only usable by the one who cast it, it probably means he's a mage. I can't ask him anything, though. It hurts to open my mouth, let alone make words come out of it.

...Did somebody say something?

Yes. Hello. Please don't freak out, we're friends of Sky and Vess. We're some sort of magical phenomenon that manifests as voices, called The Voices. Great name, huh?

Anyway, I'm glad we can talk to you now. First we were with Vess but she just panicked about Sky until we swapped back into Sky, who can't move at all.

What happened to Vess? Did she get a sleep spell cast on her?

Maybe? King looks like he heard something but if so I didn't catch what was said... unless we jumped to king... Sky are you still awake or did you pass out? Because if you passed out and with Vess also out that means we'd jump to king.

We're basically voices that give advice, and we usually show up before some sort of upheaval or cataclysm.

Though uh, we usually have a lot more time than we did back there.

We're still trying to get a grip on what happened ourselves, but it's a safe bet that you're all in a different place (and possibly time). Just follow the guy for now, and he'll probably enlighten you about where and when you are now.

At least, assuming that he doesn't poison/imprison/report you and your friends for helping a Winged One anyways, which is presumably bad or dangerous or political or something, judging by his earlier reaction. Accept his help, but don't trust him blindly.

No, seriously, We had like maybe 10 minutes before everything kicked off. That was NUTS. I swear, if we got summoned (that happens on occasion), whoever did it needs to learn the concept of an 'adjustment period'. Geez.

Oh, fucking hell.
I didn't sign up for this.

>>721980
Vess just straight up passed out. I think maybe from stress? It wasn't magic, I don't think.
>>722283
Cyrus is a cool dude. Doubt he'd do that. Hope he doesn't do that.
Apparently dudes with wings are like, super discriminated against or something. Something about a civil war? Everyone's super afraid of them now apparently.

Now you know how I feel.

so uh, Sky side he's suffered from mana corruption before. How long does that usually take to recover from?

What do you think of your friends?

Oh, by the way since Sky is awake, you can maybe reassure him a little.

It depends on the severity of the case. Sky's had it before, but never for longer than a week. There have actually been some cases so bad in the school that some kids have died from it though, including one of my other friends, which totally sucks. It's one of the reasons I haven't really tried to get better with my magic. Might do something dumb with it. I dunno, it's a dumb reason, but...eh.

Anyway, it's pretty easily avoidable if you don't TRY to push yourself too hard.

That's a bit of a strange question. I guess I don't really have a reason not to answer it, though.

Sky's odd. I can never really tell what he's thinking or how he's feeling. I mean, a contributing factor might be the eye thing, but it's not just that. He's a cool guy though, and I respect his dedication. I still wanna know how he lost his eye, though. I hope it was something super badass, like he lost it protecting his family or some shit. That would be metal.

For Vess, freaking out like she did earlier is kinda normal for her. She has difficulty managing stress. Although, I don't think it's ever been bad enough that she's passed out before. Then again, Sky was--is kinda dying a little, and I'm preeeeetty sure she has a bit of a crush on him.
They'd make a great couple. I totally ship it.

Amy is...Well. She's Amy. Nobody else gets the same feeling from her that I do; that is, one of being incredibly freaked out. She's so very clearly not normal, at least to me, and I'm not just saying that because she's blind. Her voice sounds filtered, like it was recorded and played back over itself. And nobody seems to hear this but me. And background noise always seems to get quieter whenever she speaks. And nobody seems to hear this but me. And she seems to make these odd staticky noises when she breathes. And nobody seems to hear this but me.
You get the picture, I hope.
I don't know where she is right now, though, or if she even still IS.

Ugh, Sky's bleeding on me now. I really hope he doesn't throw up or something.
Or die. He definitely better not die.

he's also awake but can't really say anything right now. Might as well let him know that you're getting him help and where you are if you can. Cause I'm sure the questions of where are we going and where am I are pretty high on his list of things to ask.

Yeah I agree with you on Amy being weird. She did some sort of super-complicated spell just before Sky's eye went all glowy and we became aware of just how much time was left before the world cracked.

Sounds believable to me about weird effects around Amy, considering the weird conversation we had with her before the whatever happened. Have you seen any other weird things like that which other people don't seem to notice?

Yeah, Amy is...concerning, would be the word I'd use.

She knew about us before we told her. That is NOT a thing that happens often, and usually the ones that DO know before we show up just know of us due to legends or heresay. Amy straight up popped a spell and read our nametag, so to speak.

Do us a solid, maybe keep an eyeball on her when she shows up? I'm a touch paranoid, admittedly, but a smart rule of thumb we've noticed throughout the millenia is that anyone who ACTUALLY knows about us in advance or connects to US instead of the other way around is someone to keep tabs on.
