Request info on the SIZE of the Fluff'Kal. Also, you're unfamiliar with that breed... Does it have any dangerous abilities or potentially valuable powers that anyone might want to steal it? What motive does she suspect her fluff-sitter of having?

Also, detective, if you don't pay attention this time, your conscious is gonna put a boot up your ass in your dreams.

:richlady: "See... Hannelore, our sitter... she... she has had problems with the law... when she was younger. One of my friends suggested her since her aunt works for her as a maid and since she needed money for her college. We thought we'd do a nice thing. Even knowing her past we decided to give her a chance. She worked for us for over three months. Bup loved her so much too! She was almost like family... but then three days ago she went out for a walk in the park with him and she did not return. I tried to call her aunt too but she isn't answering either!!!"

We're gonna comb all the local hairdressers for any large purchases made. Shaving off all that fur is like filing the serial numbers off for a Fluffiwhatsit. Nobody'd recognize it, and the fur would regrow in no time, leaving the resale value unchanged!

I seem to recall one of those figures was your new body. It's okay, you don't need to thank me or anything for that!

First, we go to the police, who will take inquiries by us much more seriously! ...well, anyway, they should be able to tell us if a missing persons report was filed for the sitter.

Well, for starters, this rich client clearly doesn't care about her employee. This should reaaaally be a Missing Persons Case, but whatever.

Anyway, so the Sitter had problems with the law in her past and has no motive to steal the fluff. We can therefore assume that she was targeted while out for a walk and the Fluff was a target of opportunity or simply dragged along for the ride.

Anyway, we need to dig into Hannelore's past. Find out her associates, locate old enemies. Oh, and we should dig up Sl'ur'Ga'zz's enemies as well, just in case the Fluff really was the target.

Remember, B.E.A., it's almost always the case in these Noir things that the dame who brings you the case has something mysterious going on. Leave no stone unturned in our investigation!

Also, Ray, promote Bea to detective. You clearly just wanna sit around at your desk and occasionally go drinking in seedy bars. You be the secretary and make her the detective.

:raygunn: "Well, we have a bunch of leads we can follow. The fact that the aunt isn't answering calls sounds fishy. The rich lady said Hannelore had problems with the law, so we could hit the police station to learn more about it. Maybe someone from her past. Or we could actually check if a Missing Alien case has been opened for her. If she has been gone for that long it looks weird no one noticed."

:bea: "Don't you think Mrs Sl'ur'Ga'zz have filed it already?"

:raygunn: "You saw her. She was way more worried about her fluff'kal than the girl. I don't really think she cares about Hannelore that much, in case she was kidnapped alongside the pet."

Oh yeah, that is fishy. No surround sound stereo, no [Alien guitar], just one computer with internal speakers; those things are notorious for low-quality screeching at high volumes. There's only one valid reason why she wouldn't use hovering headphones, and that's as a soundscreen.

Look for anything that might make noise. Check the computer, see what music files she has and cross-reference them with the stuff the neighbor hears.

Water damage around the piping. Clothes on the floor. Bed's unmade. Computer's on. Looks like she's either too tired or too lazy to deal with her own apartment.

No signs of a struggle obvious, door was locked, nothing appears to have been rifled. Check the pockets of any clothing laying around for clues while BEA examines the computer.

Current working hypothesis: Whatever our Hannelore was involved in, her aunt was too. It's unlikely she's been kidnapped from her home, suggesting she and Hannelore were working together away from home, and that something unpredicted has occurred.

It could be anything from a sewing circle to a drug smuggling ring, so we can't exactly make a theory based on that without more concrete clues to her movements.

While you're at it, you should make a note to search Hannelore and her Aunt's police records, search for any signs of shared criminal history. Could be an old enemy caught up with the pair of them, or they stumbled into something dangerous and were caught.

This case has gone from dognapping to multiple missing persons and possible conspiracy charges. You know what that means... we're gettin' paid extra, and if we live we'll get a newspaper article to frame on our wall!

Fascinating. 'Hannelore' has been living multiple lives using a series of disguises. She's concealing her criminal history to work for all these people.

I'm inclined to be sympathetic here, as we've all had to deal with explosive college fees, but we still need to figure out where she is. Examine the schedule and see if we can find out who is on this list. Have there been any burglaries linked to these people?

After this, we should probably start checking these listings for clues, as well as inform the police that 'hannelore's aunt' is missing.
>>
No. 839639 ID: 3ce125

Weird, what's with this schedule? A second name in parenthesis for each job?
Personally I suspected prostitution because of the loud music, but the schedule doesn't make sense for that. ...maybe the loud music is just her listening to music. If we had knowledge of exactly when the loud music was being played and matched it up to the schedule then we could make a better guess as to what the music is for.

This place does seem to be her room. Not her aunt's. Which makes me suspect that the aunt does not exist and it was her in disguise all along. ...OH, that's why the schedule has a name in parenthesis associated with each employer. She's working as a maid for those people, but under assumed identities. I can think of two motives for this:
1. she's planning to steal from her employers and the false identity is so she doesn't get caught, or
2. she's hunted by people from her criminal past and she can't go outside without a disguise.
...or like the poster above me said, she's doing it to conceal her criminal history so they'll trust her with maid duty.
I feel like the first possibility is less likely, since she's serious about going to college and she's got enough work to cover the costs. She shouldn't need to steal.

What was on her schedule the day she disappeared?

Check the overhead cabinet and then the bathroom. I think we're about done here though. We don't have a solid lead to check next but we do know a lot more about what she's been doing. Maybe someone figured out who she was and kidnapped HER along with the pet? I think we should check the park next and see if any of the regulars there saw her.

Wait a fucking minute how did the client know about her criminal history when Hannelore is an assumed identity? I think we need to find out who this sitter really is.

You know what they say about prisons; it's a matter of who's trapped with who. And something tells me Hannelore intentionally threw herself into the penal system for a year. Mainly, the first-degree murder charge being DROPPED. How could a juvenile get charged with first-degree, let alone get it removed without high connections?

There are a number of reasons why a professional operative would intentionally get themselves arrested. 1) White-Collar prisons have top-notch security 2) and heavy obscurity to keep the heat off from assassins, 3) Blue-Collar prisons have some of the most well-informed and infamous gang bosses in the universe 4) and nobody cares when they die in there, 5) It's the easiest way to send a covert message without getting assassinated, 6) And the hardest way to force someone back into a life they don't want.

Observation: Of her identities, Hannelore appears to be the "real" one, or at least the one she was under when this went down. Her getting kidnapped while she was doing a job as "Hannelore" would make sense then, if the events of the past is the motivator here; I don't see anyone paying a ransom for her. That is, assuming she didn't decide to drop off the map completely just to profit off of a stolen pet. But then, she can still have just gotten caught in the crossfire of someone trying to get at the client.

(Speaking of ransom notes; if we are dealing with an enemy, then there's good odds of our client receiving one by now. We should check up on that.)

well seeing how the murder charge was dropped do to the mind scan instead of Hannelore snitching like I thought was the case it's unlikely that these three would have a grudge against Hannelore much less to be able to actually kidnap her seeing where the 3 are currently being held. (unless one of them is pulling a law abiding citizen [as in the movie] but even then the distance would make that even more unlikely)

Well might as well fill out that missing person report for the girl then and let Matilda know what little we found out about Hannelore. Like past jobs, people she worked for, and how she seemed to have about a dozen deferent disguises. But one last thing, does it say anywhere that Hannelore ever had a history with drugs? I'm just asking because her three partners all do and I find it slightly odd that given her old choice of friends that she managed to stay clean.

Now hold on just a minute guys. How much of the park do the cameras actually cover? Considering that the Bank is open “at all hours,” we should stay here and capitalize on as much manual clue-finding time as we can. Stick to the outside-in approach; even if they were grabbed deeper in, and any clues found there could help point towards the “who,” a girl and her boss’s dog had to be removed from the park at a location, and is more likely to tell us the more important “where.”

Probably shouldn’t stick our noses into anything potentially dangerous to be privy to (like the prototype they mentioned) unless it’s plausibly related to the case. Just focus on getting the footage. If we have time to do one more thing and still grab a bite to eat, we should try talking to that fellow on the bench that’s been shown in the background for a couple panels. He’s in a central location, and doesn’t seem to move much.

An update with the missus won’t hurt. Maybe ask more about the victim. And tell her that the sitter might have also been a victim in this kidnapping, potentially even the primary target, as we don’t see why she would suddenly drop off the face of the Galaxy after just a dognapping. Also prepare to head back to the park to actually do some first-hand clue-sniffing. Doesn’t matter how hard we follow the victim’s connections; we aren’t getting anywhere until we get some insight into the crime itself’s order of events. Don’t waste any effort; if nobody has received a ransom note, then time is probably not on our side.

If you can spare a few credits, do so (assuming that’s what the sign he put up is asking for). Then open with “Question.” So he at least knows you aren’t here to harass him before he has a chance to shut you out again. He’s probably had it rough from the folks around here. Ask if he saw anything... was it two days ago? Ask what he saw in the last two days. If he doesn’t give up anything useful, mention that you’re investigating the kidnapping of a dog sitter and the dog she was walking.
