It hard to say what time it is. This wasn’t Earth, after all. Ixatia was orbiting the sun they called Roul, and the “they” in this instance were the people of Centralia.

Without realizing it, Centralia had a destiny before them, one greater than they possibly could imagine. The weapons of old had long ago became muskets and some of the kingdoms and empires of the past were changing into democracies. Centralia had just become one of these democracies and you, as a separate person, will work together with other senators to help forge its destiny.

Yet, before even the most basic ideas could be formed, it is important to place Centralia somewhere on this political map. Those connect with lines do in fact have a direct connection to those other lands. Otherwise, any matching colors on the map mean nothing. Just be sure to mark one territory with a visible “X” on it!

There is no need to worry if it isn’t in the center in any capacity (the absolute center of Ixatia is water, after all), but it is important to consider the geography of the land as well. Grey Mountains, Dark Green Jungles, Light green plains/savannas, white tundra, and green temperate lands all make up this vast world.

Our world is made up of various cultures divided across five major genotypes. Each culture, through their long-held beliefs and practices, has given them a unique perspective on the world, and thus contributing to the larger tapestry of the world.

The story of Centralia involves the original Native population (a small group with a strong historical connection to the land), the Settler population (a large group that relocated to Centralia a millennium ago), and a Migrant population (a modest-sized group that moved to these lands some centuries ago).

You are required to select three of them, with the most popular vote going to the Settlers, then to the Migrants, and finally the Natives. Their stories will be told more effectively once we’re done creating this nation.

Kobolds

Bearded Kobold
Bearded Kobolds are known for their fierce defense of whatever homelands they call their own, making them more difficult to annex than other people.

Jormungandian Kobold
The Jormungandian Kobolds are all that is left of what was once a proud empire, the largest in the world. That empire has been fractured long ago but many prideful “Jormus” held steadfast to their culture. Now, whether they oversee a nation-state or are simply a minority in another nation, their diaspora is the largest in the world, allowing for ease of contact between nations and for spies to go undetected.

Feathered Kobold
Feathered Kobolds (called so because of their use of feathers in traditional dress) have historically lived along the base of mountains and with them comes a vast knowledge of resource extraction, knowing just how to gather most non-food related resources.

Sobekian Kobold
Sobekian Kobolds have an adaptive and fluid culture, insuring that bonuses are done nearly random every ten or so years.

Felinoid

Sithan
The Sithans are known for their abilities in the cottage industries and as craftspeople, with people the world over looking for their products.

Bastean
In both the past (and in some places, the present), Bastean were/are known for the prowess with mounts, making them well-renowned cavalry.

Ocelotlan
Since olden times, the Ocelotans has known the ways of war. Their culture has always had a significant focus on combat in foreign lands and the honor that surrounds it.

Pacadermian

Kangitenese
Kangitenese were among the first utilize gunpowder for combative purposes, eventually reshaping the world as we know it. To this very day, the Sithan people are prized for their ability to use siege equipment.

Avian

Tengu
The Tengu, admittedly, currently do not find themselves at an interesting intersection in world affairs. However, they might soon lend themselves to something grand and profound later.

Thothan
Thothan culture has always emphasized education, going back to ancient times when a variant of their people served to write the written word. Today, this has manifested itself in an educational home life and a high literacy rate.

Gnollite

Feririan Gnoll
Feririan Gnolls have always had an outstanding ability to do things with fire, not only utilizing wood when they could, but also using animal fats and smaller plants to make sure to generate the warmth and energy they need to survive.

Xolotlan Gnoll
In their old homelands, Xolotlans have managed to harvest food from the even the poorest soils, managing to get larger agricultural yields in fertile lands.

Anubian Gnoll
Anubian Gnolls have always seemed to call for the sea, and their ability to navigate the waters have been well understood throughout the known world.

Currently, there is a four way tie for the "Migrant" and "Native" population. In order to resolve this discrepancy, I've launched a straw poll that will includes the top four contenders in order to determine who will be take up the other two slots.

Centralia’s history is long and complex, with its origins in the fall of the Western Imperium some 1,500 years ago. Going through the entire thing is an exercise in futility as far as we are concerned. Yet, it is important to understand the indicative nature of Centralia before we continue onward.

Our kingdom is composed principally of two parts—Centralia proper, where the more populous Tengu call home, and North Centralia, where native Feathered Kobolds and Tengu settlers reside. These Tengu settlers were not initially part of Centralia in any meaningful sense—there was no grand colonial effort into the then primitive lands of the Feathered Kobolds, just Tengu looking to expatriate themselves and strike it rich in some of the silver mines that dotted the region.

This became problematic, however, as more Tengu started to compete with the FKs for land and natural resources. This was particularly problematic in what is now Biggs Port, where Chief Xalantanl decreed that Tengu were to pay a special tax to compensate for the loss of resources and to dissuade more settlers from coming in. The result of this was fortuitous for Centralians, but not so for the associative tribes of northern Centralia.

Sensing opportunity to placate the nerves of these Tengu immigrants and to incorporate these rich lands into his own, King Barlow II launch a massive campaign into these northern lands. After a grueling sixteen years of conflict, most of the feathered kobold tribes capitulated or retreated further north, where they would be later annexed in full, but given some degree of autonomy.

Later, Thothan peoples from immigrated from Syatia and Mela, hoping to strike it rich at the mines in North Centralia. Over half would simply end up in the port cities that dotted the Centralian cost, but their effects on society was enormous, bringing with them a higher standard of education that was beneficial to Tengu and Feathered Kobolds alike. They were also the first to suggest that for administrative purposes that the capital be split into two parts, with Mu remaining the traditional estate for the regency and Biggs Port to handle the growing bureaucracy of the north.

Centralian history has had its many ends ins and out since the migration of the Thothans some two hundred years ago. We annexed Sro and Een from Sorenio and most of the island west of Centralia North. There have been some uphill struggles, but the Thothan have managed to integrate into society to some extent. The Mad Queen Yuma tried to start a war with Akabeth, but soon was disposed and another 70 years of stable monarchy managed to reign supreme.

At least until recently.

The Good King Barlow VII passed without a male heir, leading to a significant succession crisis. Eventually, two contenders would arise from this turmoil, Queen Litrea and the King Mal, a pretender king proclaiming to be the bastard son of Barlow VII. The pretender King Mal managed to cobble an alliance of disenfranchised Feathered Kobolds, jackanapes, and those distrustful of female leadership. Meanwhile, our queen skillfully decided that the only way to counteract this notion our people have of female leaders being imbued with madness was to create a constitutional monarchy with a fully functioning parliament---one that we are currently apart of!

The idea took off and is part of the reason we’ve cemented our position currently. We’ve managed to beat back most of the Pretender King’s forces, isolating him to westward isles in what is being called “The Rump State” in this parliament (as he too calls his pathetic kingdom Centralia).

While the war with “The Rump State” continues unabated, we must focus elsewhere and work on the manner of rights which our fair government may adopt. It will not be an easy task, by any means. Since this is a matter of urgency, we will vote silently on each item, but leave the floor open to debate. Once silent voting has concluded, we will openly ratify our Bill of Rights, as well as suggest any additional rights that should be considered. In both instances, a simply plurality/majority will win out. Should it fail to pass, we will revisit the issue once the civil war has concluded.

I think the people should be free-ish. The government should hold certain powers that today we would find undesirable.
If we want to grow an empire we need ways of manipulating the hearts and minds of our subjects.

Only one vote? Bloody hell kinda democracy is this without back up plans? Freedom means jack if it turns into an anarchy! I am sooooo going to campaign on a platform of overhauling the voting process.

Ah well.
I say we go for a pseudo dystopia. Let's face it, people are dumb. Yes, that includes you and me. Besides we can always make some new amendments later, expanding or curtailing certain liberties as need be. So for now it's best if we lay the foundation for a big stronk government.
So we can phcuk those dumb rump state brigands right in the-

Ahem.

Well, three people have voted before that comment as far as I know, myself included. The links in the latest post lead to polls that were created for this. You and >>875455 should both click on all of them if you want your vote to matter. The suggestion chatter is meant to foster discussion to try and sway people that haven’t voted yet.

Personally, I don’t think the people should have all of the freedoms, or we could have a second Rump State in as soon as a decade after we deal with the first, but we should try to be at least humane. Nothing that will incense the population, like censorship or a complete ban on legal protest.

On other matters, it seems that this civil war will be our first order of business. If the Rump State is as caustic as I believe, then we could easily frame them as a mutual enemy with that country sharing the island, Yayan.

I think we're up to nine or ten ballots in.

I would agree with your assessment but I don't think that goes quite far enough. People are after all willing to make far more, and far more questionable concessions in times of adversity. Hence my support for a totalitarian regime to start. Yes, yes, I know the taste of power can be hard to let go of which is why it's best to get it over with first.
For instance while I'd support total censorship (there's no point to partial, either go all the way or don't waste effort on a losing battle) before long it'll be an out of date tactic if not irrelevant at least from the federal perspective.

On the other hand, we at least need to restrict protests, if only so we can track who is a malcontent and for what reason. Further more I voted in support of fake trials because,... well why not? We can appoint judges and call in juries, and we can get their input on matters, and we'll thank them for their opinions and still shoot any dirty traitors in their stupid faces.
But yes, no I do agree we can only get away with so much. Without a more palatable legal system, we're not going to slip torture under the radar for instance. I guess what I'm going for is not so much oppression as it is affably evil/apathetic.

If we're going to be trampling rights, we should try to only step on toes and not oppressing 'em to death. If we don't, we're going to get run ramshod over. We already have another big angry neighbor after all. Why yes, I do think this is a dick measuring contest to see whose bureaucracy is bigger.
