I cannot draw. Is it still possible for me to run a quest here?

Pic sadly related.

You're new here, huh?

Check some of the quests down the archives. You'll find shit that'll make you feel good about your art.

you can draw pretty well. but if a mary sue is the most common thing in your writing you may need to work on that.

I've given the wrong impression. The image is of 'My Immortal', an infamous Harry Potter fanfic. My last attempt to run a quest turned into a barrage of parody suggestions of it. I'd like to at least attempt a serious take on the quest idea. However, I really cannot draw.

One does not need to be a master at art, one simply must not suck at writing. Seriously, lurk the archives. We don't troll (much) as long as it's not laughably bad. Is that your art, and if not can you post an example? Also, what board did you try to run a quest on? Here, /tg/, or some other board?
>>
No. 3389 ID: 75e7cb

On /tg/, yeah. I'd been here a few times before and knew it had a better reputation for quests. It wasn't unsuccessful, just exactly the opposite of what I wanted to write.

is it saved on suptg? or did it just one-shot and then die?
>>

Someone archived it under 'Witch Quest'. I just dropped it when it slackened off a little, though. I couldn't bear with it any longer.
>>

just read it

well, you are really good at rolling with what you are asked, that gets a lot of points.
you are able to mock your own quest which is great for a silly quest. all in all i think you would do good.
>>

Yeah, chances are we won't troll that hard. Do you plan to draw anything or run it textquest style? Because honestly, you don't need to be a good artist.
>>
No. 3395 ID: 75e7cb

I once tried to draw a witch and someone thought it was a dog. There was a cottage and cauldron in the drawing. I really, really don't think I could draw anything, but I don't even know what 'textquest style' would be.

I might be good at rolling with a silly quest, but my desire to actually do so peters out quickly. Which is not to say everything has to be completely serious.

Thanks for the help here by the way. I expected to get shouted down or even banned.

read golem quest. that's in text-quest style.

you made a 'my immortal' reference, whatever you do, I am behind it all the way. thank you sir.

As long as you draw something you'll probably get replies. Text quests are generally not liked as much.

Why is Voldemort suddenly holding a shotgun.

And why is Hermoine a goth.

And jesus christ what the fuck is going on my brain explode.

You can draw great actually. The problem is your skills of plot are that of a 12 year old girl who's a shut-in with no social skills or method of expression aside from writing bad fanfics. In short 90% of fanfiction.net I'm guessing this is a very old drawing of yours, back in the days when making a character named Ebony Darkness actually seemed like not a half bad idea.

You can draw hair, trees, backgrounds, cats. You can shade skin tone. The picture has a few issues with the rigid way you draw profiles (going from 3/4 to a profile is hard), but it's nothing people around here wouldn't tolerate just fine provided you got a compelling story.

And if you put out posts consistently you'll be immensely more popular. But as you can see (Gnoll) not everyone needs to do that to run a successful Quest.

What many don't realize about Text Quests is they're not actually easier than regular ones. You have to be demonstrably better at English than other questers to succeed at a Text Quest, and it's trivially easy for people to completely lose interest, unlike when you draw comics. I'm not just talking verbosity. You have to know how to say what you want in as few words as possible, while still getting the full meaning across. Too long and people don't read, too short and people don't understand.

um, Mneme, the image isn't theirs. they just posted it because it was relevant to the quest they made.

This is more what I expected. May I ask why the sudden, striking reaction? Is the quest or the post? I had no intention of trying to pass this off as my own but I definitely made an error in the original post.

Regardless, thanks for the information.

Hey Mnems. Are you familiar with My Immortal?

If you're not, then that comic isn't going to make any sense to you.

No it's not expected. I'm just horribly reactionary. I can't help you if you already know the difficulties in running a text-only Quest. I recommend learning to draw instead, as it'd be easier.

>>3424

Of course I'm familiar with it. Everyone needs a laugh once and a while. What has that got to do with the comic? I could see a connection if the comic was about Ebony Darkness crying about her dead babies, but it's not.

that fanfic was the reason I got into dramatic reading. holy christ that whole thing was a lollercoaster of epic proportions. as for OP's predicament, if you run a visual quest, learn the basics of it first, then the rest comes as you do the quest.

look at dorf quest, gnome did dorf quest as practice for his later quests, and it turned out to be one of the most epic things of /tg/ history.
he started with a very art-light quest with no prewritten story, and it evolved into a long spanning quest with interesting story and pretty damn good art, all things considered.

just consider all that.
