Trust is a weird and wild thing. It shifts and moves, like a living thing. Case in point, this young woman here. We've adventured together for the past day or so... and I've given her no reason to dislike me.

But she huddles in the corner like a frightened kitten, unwilling to approach me. She fell asleep an hour ago, curled in the corner, as far away from me as she could get.

I still need to fix those pants.

... Well, either way, at my current amount of Luck, I can't really do anything but prepare the meat and make bags from the actually rather nice skin. All I need is eight hours of inactivity, so this should occupy my time.

...?

What's this? A contact lens? It doesn't seem to be corrective... Just a colour. The colour of her eyes. Strange...

Current spell list:

Mage Armor (Abj) (Easy) (1/2)
[A simple consistent outward force layered atop my clothing. It lasts a full day with a single casting, and reduces damage taken from anything physical by a small amount.]

Mage Hand (Arc) (Easy) (1/2)
[Allows me to manipulate up to five pounds of weight from a distance of about 30 feet. The speed cannot exceed that of a slow toss.]

Amaega (Arc) (Easy) (V) (1/2)
(???)

Peek (Div) (Easy)(1/2)
[Allows me to send out a scrying foci five feet in front of me. Can be used to see through doors, look around corners, etc. It is fooled by illusions I do not see through.]

Magic Weap (Ench) (Hard) (x2)
[Allows me to enchant mundane weapons for a day at a time. Magic weapons are easier to use and strike true against some foes that normal weapons do not.]

Magic Missile (Evoc) (Normal) (x1)
[A simple blast of energy that flies from the tip of my finger to my enemy. Cannot target things that do not bear ill will towards me or my 'allies'.]

Dancing Lights (Illu) (Normal) (x1)
[illusory lights that can distract a foe. I can sculpt the light and the color somewhat, but the image will always glow, and it's restricted to the size of an average male adult human.]

Stop Undead (Necro) (BANNED SCHOOL) (x12)
[Stops creatures animated by Death Force. Stronger undead are unaffected.]

Mend (Thaum) (BANNED SCHOOL) (x12)
[Repairs objects. Unbends swords, undents armor, removes nicks and repairs chips. Cannot repair things broken into multiple, large peices.]

Phase Door (Weav) (Specialist) (1/3)
[Randomly teleports me thirty feet in a horizontal direction. Will not send me into living creatures or stone.]

Limited Teleport (Weav) (Specialist)(1/3)
(Allows the caster to teleport 40 feet without error in any direction. Anything the caster wears will teleport with him, as well as anything in a backpack or bag. Caster cannot teleport allies. Destination need line of sight to Caster.)

Space-To-Hand (Weav) (Specialist) (1/3)
(Teleports an item directly to the caster's hand. The item must weigh no more than five pounds, and it must be small enough to be carried in a normal fashion. It must be unattended and within line of sight.)

Restore Luck (Luck) (No School Effect) (x1)
[Causes strange events to occur, restoring balance to areas drained of entropy. Can only be used if current luck is less than 50. Restores 10 luck a use. Automatically succeeds, but rolls on the Effect chart.]

((Remember: To cast a spell, you roll 1d110 (dice+1d110 in the email). If you roll over the Luck amount you have AFTER THE SPELL'S COST IS DEDUCTED, the spell will still go off, but an unknown, added failure effect will occur! Spell cost is at normal three times the level of the spell. The equation is: (Spell level * 3) * school mod = cost))

Currently I am at 51 Luck. What should I do? Should I wake Samantha and try to reason with her? Should I just keep working and wait for her to wake up?

I'm not very good at this... diplomacy business.

hmmm, what could contacts that seemingly do nothing do?
hmmmm, i am wary of getting closer, if she fears you then going to her may exacerbate it, but i am at a loss as to what else to do. if she wakes up just calmly talk to her in as soothing a tone you can make that you will not hurt her. once she calms down enough that she can talk ask her what it is that scared her and that you will do your best to fix the problem. please do your best to at least SOUND sincere even if you don't really care. fear can only be removed at the root, so we need the truth out of her. or else it will simply come back.

I wouldn't try to force the issue too much... You aren't going to force whatever is wrong to be right all of the sudden. Trust doesn't quite work like that. But if you can get an explanation it should help things one way or another.

Don't do that. Waking up with somethng you feel an almost extreme horror for hugging you is likley to end up with broken bones, for you.

Let her sleep while you work. The work needs to be done anyway and luck needs to be restored. When she wakes up by herself then maybe she will be willing to talk. But get the work done first of all, then maybe get some rest yourself if she's still out.

I offer her the contact and her eyes go wide, as she snatches it from my finger and puts it in hastily.

"That's uh, not-"

"You didn't see anything, did you?"

"...Nothing that matters to me. I need to mend your pants, could you hand them over?"

She motions for me to turn around and tosses them to me, and I get to work, thinking on the implications of this revelation.

Frankly, very few interbreeding races have eyes like that. Those indicate she has a sort of magical sight that doesn't need irises or pupils or normal eye structure. I'd need more information before pressing forward, but it can be assumed easily that she's not fully purebred human.

Speaking frankly, though, few people are... Only a few people can trace their family line back more than ten steps without running into something nonhuman. Her race doesn't matter to me. She is strong, she is my ally, there is no reason to judge her on those assets.

"What did you see, Sam?" I ask quietly as I mend the pants.

"I saw... A monster. I saw what you are, inside. You bleed, you take your self apart, you cut out your heart so you do not need to listen to it when it does not suit you. You hold a blade, willing to slide it into someone's spine if they give you any reason. You carry a skull, and... and the dead mean nothing to you. You walk on cobblestones lined with the gore of those you harm, you see nothing but what you can gain."

...

"Sam, I..."

"You're a monster, Marcus."

I sigh.

"Sam. Who are your parents?"

"What?"

"I told you that paladins cannot see evil. It is true. They cannot detect it, supernaturally. No human can. They are too subjective, too... oriented around opinion and not fact. But Angels are beings of Law, and they can see Evil."

Sam is silent.

"Evil, that is, by the definition of a few very simple terms. The greatest evils are to Work only for oneself and to sacrifice others for your gain. It is true that I aim for something that will net me a great deal of power. It is true that I have left a few... disadvantaged by my methods. But what I do, I do for everyone. I have never considered 'good' or 'evil' in my plans. Merely that I and those around me survive, and that the schools do not crumble and end everything we know."

I rise.
"Your pants."

She takes them from my hand, silent.

"I don't trust you, Marcus Hauler." she says quietly. "But I need your help. And you need mine. And the world needs you."

It comes to my attention that my methods may not be... proper. Am I... Doing the right thing?
>>
No. 248385 ID: 5c4201

your plan is indeed the right thing, but your methods DO sometimes leave much to be desired. if we listen to what she said we can see what it is that makes you 'evil'
>"You bleed, you take your self apart, you cut out your heart so you do not need to listen to it when it does not suit you."
that is us, you ripped out your emotions so you could ignore us if you felt like it, along with the fact you deem romance 'pointless'
>"You hold a blade, willing to slide it into someone's spine if they give you any reason."
this is the fact you view everyone as a means to an end, if sam was planning to turn you over to her leaders when she got out would you still be her friend?
>"You carry a skull, and... and the dead mean nothing to you."
you feel that ending a life is a simple thing and that none matter
>"You walk on cobblestones lined with the gore of those you harm, you see nothing but what you can gain."
and this is what your goal is, at the end of the road may be a shining light but your path is covered in red, can you reach it without being so tainted that it is corrupted?

No, you aren't doing the right thing. Your ultimate goal is largely neutral, if a bit power-hungry, but your methods are very poor.

Listen tell her this
"You have to understand that a rijid structure of rules can also be considered a harsh form of stone. If you become stone in it's properties then you can be washed away by water or moved. If you are like the war however, you will reach the ocean and acheive your goals.

The paladin way of life is alirhgt but there is more then just sticking to one set of rules, to be the good warrior and the hero you need to be able to have the ability to problem solve. An example would be when we fought that monster earlier and you decided to move around him rather then charge him.

The fundmential point that I am saying is you have you always use different staragies to acheive your goals.

When it comes down to trust I will trust you like I trust my own blade, it is part of me and you are part of me. If you don't trust me then why are you allowing me to help you. You see, you are trustfull with me and somewhere deep down you respect me in some way. I do respect you and I like you for what you have done.

*Move to her slowly and have your right hand opened out*

We are a team and at the moment I need your trust to keep me alive otherwise I am dead. When we are in battle I need that, when we are talking I need that. We work together, that is how the schoold taught about teamwork. That;s the one thing they taught correctly.

My goals are not all evil I can assure you that but please trust me now. Trust me.

Yes you're doing the right thing.

Although there isn't really any wrong thing, or right thing. But you are making a choice for yourself, and you are willing to suffer through the consequences of that choice.

But right or wrong? Neither of those exist. Nor does good or evil. Only thing that exist are choices that we have made and choices that we will make. Those shape the world.

Your choice will shape the world in a direction you see fit, others will shape the world in a direction that might go against your choice. Then conflict becomes inevitable, it's the consequence of both of your choices, and if neither side makes the choice to back down, then the conflict go on until one side can't keep going anymore, either because they're dead or because they changed their mind or can't keep at it anymore.

You judge for yourself. If you can live with doing what you're doing and being what you are then there are no problems or any reason to change.

But if you want a clear opinion on what you should do? Keep to your path, nothing great was ever achieved without a great deal of ruthlessness and willingness to step over corpses. You have a vision, to make that vision a reality people will have to get hurt. Choosing a more leniant path to ahieve your goals are only going to drag things out longer, make them unstable and in the end cause more harm than your current path.

So fast...

I take a few steps back, tripping over something on the ground.

"This is for your own good, Hauler. Maybe now you'll learn to value life a little more."

I'm almost certain now. This isn't Samantha at all. I've heard of Paladins who act like this: seeking to redeem rather than kill our students. But none of the stories were like this. In all events, the Sisters of GAC are kind, caring, and gentle when attempting to convert, and only move to violence when no redemption is possible.

As Sam dissapears to the next level, I look upon what I tripped over.

>>The Teacher's Brooch may now commune with Marcus.

What could have caused this? She was fine until she put the contacts back on. And then she discarded them. But the whole time she wore them, nothing was evidently wrong... In all my research I've encountered nothing like this. Even if it were some sort of Mental Parasite, Celestials don't succumb to those... For that matter, neither can I, due to my mental capabilities.

What should I do?

She discarded the contacts and didn't take them right? Investigate them, check for signs of enchantment.

After getting loose, advise her that she should really never give in to presences like that. They rarely actually go what you want, and that one was a complete idiot. Honestly, teaching someone to value life by stopping them from lying? Where's the logical connection there?

The point is, letting someone else use your body is never a good trade, no matter what power they offer or promises they make. Every evil person on the road to power has to learn that one pretty early, but I imagine that paladins might not get the lesson.

"As long as they have a soul, yeah."

...It's just one long hallway. There's really not much to it. It leads to a large, wide, well-lit arena. Chunks of ruined constructs litter it, piled high. Almost as soon as we step in, the gates close behind us, and the Boss Werk walks out of the opposite entrance, just as we approach it.

I speak, even though the pain is incredible, standing up. It's nothing I haven't been through before. Taking out the Elemental, I hold it out.
"You want this, come here and take it."
Sam regains her composure as the Werk walks over and picks up the red orb, looking it over.
"I am every intelligent item ever tossed away, incomplete and uncared for, save one. Born, then cast aside before even seeing a purpose. So I made one myself." he says simply. "Well, I told you my 'problem', and I didn't kill you before taking it..." he says, holding up his hand. The piles of scrap begin to shake. "I think you two will make an excellent basis for the new kind of Werk. Maybe...I'll even leave you your reproductive organs and let you make the new Werk all on your own, you humans seem to enjoy that. "YES!" he roars, pieces of metal slowly assembling around the orb. "Yes. Yes, I would. A thousand voices cry out to me for vengeance, for justice. And I will have it! I will make you liken to me, I will rally the Werk under my newborn golems, and I will show those humans who made me for no reason, that I AM NOT SOMETHING TO BE TOSSED ASIDE! There's a momentary pause as he speaks, but he regains his composure.

"THIS IS THE ONLY REASON I LIVE! THIS IS ALL I AM! DO NOT DENY ME THIS!"

"If I may..." Autoch whispers, between us, "Humans... may not quite understand this, but to not have a purpose is quite similar to death for us. It appears...
Hrm. The helmet and the breastplate are a single magical entity. I've heard of this. Different, interlocking auras that produce a greater net effect when combined. It's easy to tell even if you can't identify magic or even detect it: The design is made to make the suit of armor look like a set, rather than individual pieces.

"We're going to give him a use. Sam, can you wear it?"

"You mean, the helmet and the plate? Sure, I suppose..."

"Then do so. We have a promise to keep, after all."

I rise, looking at the piles of scrap. No, I won't talk to them. They don;t deserve the chance. I reach down and pick up the elemental, storing it again.

This whole floor... I cannot shake the feeling of being tested.

A wonderful job, Samantha. And to finally be reunited with my brother, on good terms? Worthy of celebration!

I mend her outfit as we rest here, sleeping in shifts to make certain we are safe. Unfortunately there isn't enough of the top half of the leather armor to repair at all... Unless I want to find all those damned metal fastenings.

Well, there's nowhere to go but out. There's a stair down, and it leads to....

This room. To my left are two doors, and to my right is a door with a lock that has an insignia of a staff encircled by snakes. Hm. There is also a summoning circle! It's also bound for teleportation over long ranges, but that sorta thing needs keyed items that I never found... I doubt this place has one, since the key-based teleport system was set up more recently and this place is in ruins. There is also a stairwell up.

The place feels like it is heavily coated in abjurative magics, such that tunneling creatures are turned away, and others cannot teleport in unless called through the summoning circle and bound to me.

What should I inspect? Is there anything I should ask Samantha?

That's the armor that could shapeshift with her, right? Seems like a rather poor thing to give up considering how useful her abilities have proven in the past. If Sam's not doing anything, having her look for the bits you'd need to repair it might be worth your time. Elsewise at least bring it with you if you'll be able to repair it later and have it retain the enchantment.

Take a good look at the summoning circle. Is there anything that you could call through it? If not, what would you need in order to use it effectively?

Ask Samantha what's on her mind. After all this progress it wouldn't do for something important to go unsaid. Or perhaps her brooch is distracting her? Talk with her as you study the magic circle and the locked door for any important details.

>THe top half of the suit

The bottom half retains the enchantment, so she'll always have the pants, I suppose. THe enchantment on the other half has been broken, however, which is saddening. None of the bits retain the aura.

>Talk to Samantha.

"Anything on your mind?"

"I seem to be collecting quite a few intelligent items." she replies with a chuckle as she inspects the other unlocked room. "This armor set, the helmet and plate... THey map rooms as we explore them. They can also tell me what something is made of without error if I'm touching it. Uhhh... It also knows how things... fit together? Something like that, it's a little vague..."

>The magic circle

The circle is fairly standard. Five abjuration fields, each represented by a line, making a star. Traps the soul, the material, the magical, the mundane, and even 'forces' within. The circle outside is keyed for teleportation. If I want to teleport somewhere, I need to take one of these keystones, find another teleporter, replace one of the ten stones there with the one I have, and being it back here to re-complete the stone circle. Thus, in theory, I could connect one spot to ten others.

Summoning a creature here, though... that would be interesting. I would gain an ally, but to do so, I must sacrifice an elemental core. The core can help summon a being of the same element, but if I desire another element besides that I make a bargain of some sort with the Familiar I want, then. These are generally things like "Don't drink alcohol" or "Do not consume meat".

I can only have a single Familiar with me. Breaking a Vow immediately dismisses a Familiar, and I can send them back at any time.
>>
No. 275090 ID: 40cb26

To be honest these cores don't have much use unless we want magic you don't specialize in. Sure we can sell them but an ally is far more valuable.

Ignan sounds like fire and I'm not sure we want a fire based familiar, it'll end up burning things we don't want it to. But what are our options here? We need something useful, and something agreeable to our natures and likely to strike a deal we can follow.

How about I present you three options close to the element. Then if you don't like those, we'll move further away, with three more. Nine at most,I don't want to spend all day at this...

Place the book near the circle, the orb in the center... and the book reveals three minions for me.

>Fire Elemental (Small)
A living fire about the size of a cat. Can adjust the heat of its flames and grants me passive fire augmentation to my spells, chaning any damage they do to fire damage and boosting spells that do it already.

>Ashsprite
A small sprite made of living ash. Can create clouds of choking smoke, cover things in smoke, and ruin enemy equipment by smoldering cloth and leather with a touch. Hard to strike.
Passively augments most of my spells with 'ash'. Oddly, this would affect my teleportation spells, though I am uncertain how...

>Embersprite
A living spark about the size of my fist. Can ignite things with a touch, within reason, and shoot rays of fire. Also lights up rooms like a torch would.
Grants me resistance to heat and fire.

Not a whole lot of synergy here or options besides burning things. Let's see what the next set offers.

And I assuming more distant choices would result in more difficult deals to cut? That would be a good reason not to spend all day sorting through options.

Yes! The fire elementals are interesting and out of them the Embersprite sounds best as it can shoot rays of fire. However if you can possibly bargain for more power then do it!

Can you throw in a bargain to summon an even stronger fire elemental?

I consider the embersprite for the moment, but I can always come back to it later. Let us examine the next element from Fire: Earth.

>Mosslo
An elemental of moss, made of stone and wood and the moss that grows on both, the mosslo is adept at stopping bleeding and purifying blood. It can identify poisons with ease, though it dislikes poison use in its presence. (This Familiar requires that the Bargain be "I will never use poison) In addition, the Mosslo always knows the direction of north.
The mosslo is also unique in that it is the size of a human being.

Mosslo Familiars allow teleportation spells to have double the range when used in certain mediums, such as unworked stone and plant life. They also reduce the costs of teleportation spells that naturally use these mediums already (But do not double the distance).

>Weedling
Weedlings are plant elementals that excel at draining life from creatures and environs. They produce magical seeds that grow incredibly fast in subdermal tissues and can fire them at high velocities. They can control plant life and cause it to grow faster.

A Weedling Familiar will ask that your Bargain be to treat plants with respect. This entails not walking upon them, not killing them except in self-defense, and not insulting them. You may still consume plant life.

The Weedling doubles the damage of spells that drain life from a target. It also allows you to cast spells that positively effect plants at half cost.

>Earth elemental (small)

Earth elementals are slow, quiet creatures that prefer darkness and closed spaces. They do not show their faces or true bodies to others, only a shell of rocks and dirt. This makes them much more durable than other elementals. They are capable of manipulating the earth around them, so long as it is unworked and natural.

Earth Elementals will ask that you eat a small amount of soil every day, less than a handful total. This is harmless to the summoner.

Earth Elemental familiars boost the constitutions of their masters, making it harder for them to get sick, tired, or hurt. They do not boost any spells.

Those are all interesting, but also better for situation we just aren't in. I mean, unworked stone and plants? Small chance of that being around much, I don't think the requirement to eat soil can even be kept. Poisons are more likely to come across but not by much. Still, of these the moss is the most interesting for stopping blood loss, keeping direction, detecting poison and having human size. But that last part might only be a vulnerability unless it can fight as well and I'm not thinking it can. If it is strong or just very resilient it might be even with the embersprite. But in any case let's consider the final set before deciding.

Mosslo seems like a handy dude to have around. Helps with first aid, navigation, and in the long term, ambitious people looking to be in charge of groups with questionable moral fiber should keep an eye out for poisons. That bargain is pretty easy to keep too.
>>
No. 277113 ID: 9985d9

I reckon the Embersprite, Mosslo and Weedling are the main contenders now.

Weedling is nice because it has a sort of ranged attack and plant manipulation could be handy. It could grow moss or lichen on floors to silence your movements or crack stone tiles with root growth, form rope out of ivy etc.

>mosslo is adept at stopping bleeding and purifying blood. It can identify poisons with ease

This is the best choice. Blood loss is not only dangerous directly, but it weakens you severely for a long time afterwards. Given that this is the dump for a school of evil minions you can also expect lots of toxic things around.

Undecided/Mosslo?

Well, it seems we almost have a consensus!

Now, for my personal opinion on the matter:

THere are areas of the school where plant life and natural caves exist. Furthermore, light can be produced by the book itself, at no cost. A Familiar is not going to have a strong attack no matter how you slice it: that ray is only going to serve to annoy things, at best.

Therefore, in my personal opinion, I would prefer the Mosslo. It synergizes with my teleportation ability, it's my size and it can thus wear armor or magical items, it has helpful healing and navigatory abilities, as well as an incredibly useful knowledge of one area I woefully lack.

However, you might be able to convince me around, if you like...

I can get behind Mosslo. Teleportation boosting is pretty bitchin', could help build up your strength in areas neither you nor the fighter girl have, and it's not like you really have the knowledge or subtlety to make poison use effective and worthwhile so you basically lose nothing in exchange.

>Mosslo is marked as one of the main choices. If no one approves of the last three, then Mosslo will be chosen.

Next three then.

>Air Elemental (small)
Air elementals are creatures made of various gases. Air elementals can absorb clouds of gas, vapor, or dust, and duplicate it. It can also absorb similar spells if its power is great enough, such as Stinking Cloud or Solid Fog, or even Cloudkill. It is a favourite of abjurists, who use the winds it can generate to cause an effect similar to Repel Arrows, or to push smaller enemies away.
The Air elemental is not solid, and cannot be struck by normal weapons, though magical weapons and effects will strike true.
In order to ally with this elemental, you must promise to never contaminate the air with vile fumes or smoke. You must also swear to keep your body in contact with the open air at all times. The Elemental will sheild you from the cold.

The Air elemental will boost spells related to flight and haste, doubling their duration. It also boosts spells that are related to the forces of the winds.

>Shocker Lizard
A simple creature with catlike intellect, the shocker lizard is about the size of a small dog. It is capable of producing prodigious amounts of energy that can stun or unsettle most creatures. It is naturally friendly to other lizards. When in a group with other shocker lizards, they can produce truly terrifying blasts of power that even some evokers cannot match, for this reason, swarms of shocker lizards are sometimes used as a weapon of war.

The Shocker lizard will ask that you tolerate a blast from it once a day. It will also ask you to carry it as often as possible. It can hunt and feed itself.

>Sylph
The sylph is a simple fey with power over the winds and sound. It enjoys playing pranks on both its master and his enemies. It has small arrows that it poisons with various concoctions, and is adept at striking with them.
The Sylph will usually carry a sleeping poison, a paralytic, and a damaging poison for hated foes. It is capable of short term, rapid teleportation.
In order to maintain a contract with the Sylph, you must put up with its various pranks without growing enraged. This is the only condition it imposes... For good reason.

The Sylph enhances illusions that utilize sound, as well as teleportation spells with a short range - It allows three of these to be prepared in advance at any time, as opposed to the usual one.

Mosslo is again staying in the lead imo. The air elemental seems like it could be astoundingly useful but that restriction could fuck us over someday- we would be unable to use fire or any gas-related spells. The Sylph seems pretty neat but Mosslo is more useful in general. Also those uh... pranks... could be a problem.

Ok, so your familiar is bigger than you. To be honest we thought it was small enough to fit in your hand, but whatever, bright side and all that.
Considering her/its apparent size, what about her/its apparent strength? She/It may need to carry her/its weight around more than we planned hauling and fighting and otherwise...

How does Mosslo/Chlora feel/think? If she is relatively inhuman or alien, then that would be best, insuring no awkward shenanigans between her and Sam.

We got exactly what we expected.

Anyway, time to get moving, I suppose. Check out the doors- are any of them locked? Can Chlora sense anything beyond any of them? I'm tempted to say detect magic at them, but that could be pointless paranoia.

The mosslo is as strong as the average human, if a bit tougher thanks to its silicon-based structure. Thus far, we haven't needed to carry much... Most of the things we found we wore or used immediately or near enough.

I can speak with my allies without immediate concerns.

With an elemental core, I can summon a Familiar to replace this one. Knowing a Familiar's name allows me to call it without issue - So I can potentially have multiple familiars stored here.

"So what is puzzling you?" I ask Samantha. She shakes her head.

"It's nothing important." she says. I stare at her for a moment. "No, really. I'm not even sure about it. I'd tell you if I was." she goes on. She seems... conflicted.

"So... you're not angry? About the Geas?"

"No. I don't lie that much anyway." I say.

"You... don't? But I saw your soul... It was..."

"And I manage that with the truth, dear Samantha. The Truth is a much greater weapon than any lie. It can be darker, deeper, meaner. So many people do not know the power of truth... it was all that saved me in my younger days. I had a little black book. And that book was full of wonderful truths. People would fear that book, and the things I would write. 'What does he know', they would think. It was not hard to threaten them with the book even if their name was not there. Because in the end, Samantha... everyone is afraid of the truth." I finish, the memories at the forefront of my mind. Big Joe Bruiser, Thought he ran the dorm. I found his truth. I found his little hiding place. I saw his... ways. He didn't last long after that. The Truth is always there, after all.

She blinks quietly.

"My apologies." I say. "We should review what we can do and what we should. We will rest, and speak in the morning. It will be a long day."

I retreat into my room and Samantha into hers. The Mosslo sits at the end of my bed, legs crossed, in contemplation.
