"So.... You're still alive too hmm?"

"Of course. Not for much longer though."

"I can say the same. That.... Was a good fight. I didn't expect to lose."

"Well neither did I. So... Is this your true form?"

"In a way.. I don't have enough power to maintain my other form."

She coughs.

"Why me though? What have my people done to upset yours?"

"Orders. Nothing personal. Though if I knew you were this cute I might've just left."

"Heh".

"Before we go.. Tell me your name."

The dragon is living in Art, or something similar. Lets resurrect her on the condition that she hide until the race wars are over. That way nobody will go after her in an attempt to protect their silly plans.
Also, plausible deniability prevents unsightly time paradoxes.
Tell her it's alright, just a bit of a headache now. Ask her what happened, was it really just that spicy?

Let's be honest, it wasn't difficult to guess at. So are you going to speak up for yourself now, or will we continue to flail about with assumptions and half-assed plans about what to do? Or let's start simpler: what is your name, dragon?

Tell her you think she should go easier on the spices next time, since it seems you can't handle them.
Also, remind her that she can cure death.

We need to visit the Academy so we can have people start researching a spell that heals any and all damage done to a body - be it living or dead - until it runs out of mana. Something where you can just keep casting it as your mana comes back and gradually turn even the most mangled corpse into a full body of living tissue that only lacks the spark of life, then you can use a feather to return the person to life in perfect health.

This is something important that you need to do for reasons we can't specify.

[Ok, everybody, stop calling her "Dragon". Calling somebody by their species is insulting, and there's no need for that.
Now, Ma'am, now that we know *what* you are, can you give us more details on *who* you are? For example, it would be nice to know your name so we can be polite when we wish to speak with. Beyond that, it would also help to know what race you are matron to; Sable obeyed his orders because Regulus claimed it's the tigerfolk, but the evidence suggests you are Matron to the Dark Elves and Regulus lied because he knew Sable would have refused his orders if he knew the truth.

Could you also share how we can help you? As you can guess, we're putting things in motion so that we might be able to resurrect you if that's what you want. Revenge, Avenge, Justice, etc... We'd be happy to help you, barring things which would bring Art to serious harm of course.]

Artemis hugs her back

"So what happened?"

"Oh... I accidentally mixed together some things into the food.. Sorry."

"It's okay."

A bell rings.

"Oh! I'm sorry Artemis, I have a customer. I'll be right back okay?"

He nods. Morgan leaves the room. Artemis can hear her going downstairs.

Upstairs of the shop, and probably wearing something of Morgans. You were bleeding before you passed out and might have thrown up all over yourself afterward, so it isn't surprising that you needed a change.

"Ah! Okay! Please come back tonight! I really want to make up for almost killing you again!"

I think what she wants the most is to live. Even she has no idea why she was killed. Perhaps we can find an alternative for her. A new body of her very own?

Of course, that's if she's a separate entity from you. She might be another aspect of you. Part of your soul, starting to mature and awaken as you attain more power, or perhaps in response to having.. us?

I'm wary of anything that comes out of his mouth, but agree to it and ask if there is any more information. Tell him to send out Saisai when he gets back to the castle, and to meet us at the church. Then head into the academy and recruit Sarah, I think she may prove important here for a couple reasons and you will want to talk to her anyway. Tell her to bring a means of quickly copying documents. Then we go to the church to get Kacey and Saisai.

Heh, well in case you haven't noticed we find that Artemis to be the more fun one. But eve if it is due to you it is also him. Let's talk about goals here: we want Artemis himself, healthy and happy, kicking lots of ass and getting lots of tail. What do YOU want? I'm sure we can keep things mutually beneficial.

I know it's suspicious but I have no right to question him. Dragon, if you're listening I don't wanna get rid of you. Just try not to kill me and we'll see if we can work something out.

Artemis sighs and continues onward to the Academy library.
Inside he sees Sarah carrying a stack of books bigger then herself

"Hey, Sarah!"

"? Oh! Her Artemis. What's up?"

Tell her you have a couple things. First you just got a person finding mission thrown at you on the way here, and you not only need a team member but someone who can very quickly and covertly copy documents without *anyone* knowing, if anyone can you expect her to be able to. The other reason isn't as urgent but still very important, and you'll talk about it after the mission. Working with us or no, we need to do some more research into what is going on with you and what we can do about it and we need their help. Of course anything you can tell us would help.

If she can't deal with the mission perhaps she can at least recommend who would be good at hunting someone down.

Oh by the way Artemis, your stowaway says "Deal" so that's nice.

Question? Maybe not, but you have every right to doubt him. We've uncovered what could be evidence of treason.

[Shadow, are or were you the matron of the Tiger folk? If not, then are or were you the matron of the Dark Elves?]

Ask her if she knows of anybody that's researching powerful healing magic. Something that can regrow limbs and turn rotting flesh healthy.

I'm still in favor of picking Sonata as our mage; she seems to be quite powerful, and we're going to want to capture this person alive so we can ask questions on the way to hand him over to the King.
No, not Regulus, the King. Regulus said the King issued the order, so the King should be the one to confirm the criminal's identity and verify the documents have been recovered.

"Evening Art."

"Good evening Kacey, Saisai. They should be here any moment now."

>"They?"

"A pair of magic users from the academy."

Saisai points to two small girls in robes running up to them. The reach Artemis and smile.

"You must be Artemis."
"We heard all about you."
"And that you have a mission for us."

Artemis laughs and briefs everyone on the mission.

>>
No. 294260 ID: 40cb26

The slums was the last area he was reported in, so that's where we go. Saisai is going to take scouting duty, she can take to the rooftops. Ask the twins what they have up their sleeves that can help to find this person.

Remember the one we're looking for is thought to be a light elf spy, and for all we know is one. Either way tell them be prepared for strange magic, who knows what trickery they have. Actually, ask the twins that too.

>>294245
Your dad IS dumb. We kept telling him to bring a healer with him, or at least potions, or at least somebody friendly who could help him if he was horribly wounded after the fight, or etc...
If I recall, we also pointed out that it makes no sense for the Tigerfolk's dragon to live deep inside Dark Elven lands and suggested he confirm his target.
He then became fed-up with how we were dotting and worrying over a fight with a 'mere' dragon.

Short version? We warned him of many possible ways his mission could go badly and how to prevent them. Then he ignored our advice and proceeded to suffer almost everything we warned him about with none of the protections or mitigations we suggested.

Also, I was speaking of your father's Dark Elf lover when I said "adoptive-step-mother-person". If you can suggest a better way to illustrate the relationship between the two of you then I'm all ears.

So, again: How are relations between Humans and Dark Elves at the moment? Can they pass through each others lands safely?

In more immediate concerns, I doubt those twins are fully human. It's worth asking about the masks after the mission.

Start by telling them what the target looks like, then start searching the last known location.

Anyway I think Dark Elves are okay with humans but no other species is allowed in our city without a good reason.

The twins jump up raising their hands. The one on the left speaks up

"Oh! Oh! Me and Fleur can find him!"
"Yeah! We got a lot of handy skills and one of them is Far Sight!"
"So we can like scan the whole area for you!"
"It's not perfect though so if he's like inside a building we won't be able to find him."

That is an odd kind of indirect magic. I guess it's too much to hope all his powers are based on the slow weathering of things, but its hard to guess at what. The twins seems surprised at even this so I doubt they have any more insight than us.

She runs off ahead of them on the rooftops. Artemis and the rest of his group follow on foot with the twins leading them to where they saw him. They get there in time to see Saisai and the target.
He laughs a bit and says something they can't hear. Saisai makes a sweep at his legs but the man manages to dodge it.

I can't use heavy slash in this form!

"Kacey, take Saisai to safety!"

Kacey nods and grabs onto Saisai. She yells out to him in a much different voice.

>"Artemis! He uses Time Magic! Watch out!"

I figured as much...

Artemis casts fire at the dark elf. Each blast gets close but simply vanishes before hitting him.

"Artemis!"
"We got this!"

The twins hold hands again and mutter something. Suddenly the light elf is encased in a glass-like pyramid.

That seems to have sealed him.

"Tighten those restraints! This man has sensitive information on him, we can't let him escape."

The twins nod and place seal after seal on the fairy. He simply smiles throughout the ordeal.
Artemis moves a bit closer to him, still keeping distance.

"Who are you? What have you done to my partner? And where are the documents."

"Tia basti air Eisol. Os vasaes shor shi tholi. O... Byr mai tes."

Yeah, can't understand that.

The man tries to move out of the restraints.

"mai testaesysti... Sher air sajaer sai sai cyr air. Shas."

Fleur gasps and clutches her stomach. Artemis can hear her retching.

"Fleur! What's wrong!?"

Fleur falls to the ground.

"Fleur!"

"Byrn, jhaeli ti shi."

The restraints fall away.

It's a grisly task, but if we can find her stomach... We may need a search party. If nothing else, the feather will give us time after she passes to find the parts and bring her back. Let's inform Kacey of the task and situation.

And there is another option... if we can harvest half of her sisters stomach and some lung, heal what remains and give it to her sister that might just work. Bring this idea to the healer, along with the knowledge that we have a feather of life on the way.

Art, how many knights have training and/or experience fighting light elves? Were you one of them?
Why, then, would Regulus have been looking for you specifically? What would make you a better choice for this mission than anybody else?
If they believed that he was a light elf then you would have been a terrible choice.
Now lets examine that choice going by what factors you DO have going for you.
You're a decent mage and a decent fighter.
You're almost a captain.
You're almost fighting on-par with a captain.
You knew little about Light Elves going into this.
You knew nothing about Time Magic going into this.
You are known for resolving problems through diplomacy and avoiding violence whenever possible.
You are the son of the only human to ever kill a dragon.
You own the 'dragon slayer' sword which is designed to and has successfully managed to kill a dragon.

Selecting you for this mission only makes sense if they knew the spy was a dragon. For anything else you would be the last choice.
From this we can conclude that the person who decided on you knew who the spy was.

When you get to the King's office, tell him this:
"Sire. As per the orders you relayed through Regulus, I have slain the Wind Dragon. I have also recovered the stolen documents."
Then hand him the papers.

I don't think I'll ever learn the truth..
Do I just accept it as is?

Artemis sighs and enters the kings office.

"Artemis? What brings you here?"

"Sir I completed the mission Regulus sent me on."

"Oh? He picked you then?"

"Yes your majesty. I retrieved the documents and killed the spy."

"Well good job Artemis."

"But sire... The spy turned out to be the wind dragon."

The king's face goes pale.

"You slayed the wind dragon?"

"I wasn't aware sire.. I didn't know his true identity until it was too late."

"Like father like son..."

"Also one of my allies was seriously injured, and Saisai's current whereabouts are unknown. It had many strange magics... and my sword proved resistant to them. Sir, what can you tell me about this? If I had known more about the spy the dragons or elves or even my sword this might have gone better."

"Well... Many many years ago the dragons ruled our land. Each of them raised and nurtured their own species, completely oblivious to the others existence. The first one to notice the others was the water dragon Sharaes. To protect her people she raised mountains around their land. Soon the others became aware of each other as well and their species.
Things were peaceful at first but then they began to bicker. To settle their disputes they would convince their respective people to wage war upon each other. Anyone who refused was slain and reborn as someone else. Sharaes saw this battle and while she was glad that she had protected her people she was still very upset at the sensless muder going on in the land. To help prevent it she gave a man named Cheront a special metal. She said if he made a blade out of it it would give the mortals the ability to defy the dragons.
And so the Dragon Slayer was made. Any dragon who went near it found their powers drained away.
Soon the dragons left. Their little problems were not worth losing their life over. They took residence wherever their species was and simply rested, waiting.
While things were peaceful for a while Cheront saw that the others still insisted on fighting each other, even without the dragons telling them to do so. You see, while Cheront did manage to give mortals freedom it happened too soon. Without something to protect them from serious danger the mortals would drive themselves to extinction on their own.
So Cheront made a deal with the dragons. If they simply tended to their species and not use them as pawns then he would never turn his blade against them.
They agreed of course, eager to return.
Most of the tale is missing after that point but the blade has been in our possession ever since."

"So why did my father get it? How?"

"It was given to him to slay the dark dragon many years ago. I was not aware of this tale at that point... It was a terrible mistake.. Artemis, you must try to not kill another dragon. If you kill one the others gain more influence over the world. If that happens..."

"I understand sire."

Artemis spins around to see Regulus behind him.

How could he expect you to take charge? He offered you the service of two mages as if he expected that to work, never told you it was a Dragon your dealing with (and thus the only qualified person), and Captains, which you are acting as, are not there to be the badasses of the mission, they are there to ensure the safety of the squad and that the mission is successfully done. This is insulting! By this standard, Knights would never learn except to be babied by their Captains, and it sets a standard of putting the people in charge of safety to battle without relevant information. If this was a known dragon fight, you should have been asked to do it on your own, and fully informed with proper long range support.

Okay, what the FUCK.

1. He expressly told you that the king wanted you, specifically, for the mission, when obviously the king would have wanted nothing of the sort because the king doesn't approve of having dragons killed.
2. He explicitly told you to bring your team. I quote, "We need you and your team to find him... Assemble as soon as possible and try to hunt him down."
3. You fought alongside your team because you are not a reckless idiot who thinks he can take on everything himself. If you'd known critical intelligence, like "it's a fucking dragon", maybe you could have used better tactics- but that is NOT your fault.
4. He might claim to be nothing but the king's most loyal knight, but it is blatantly obvious that in this he was not serving the king's will. Maybe he thinks he knows better what the king needs than the king does, or something similar, but that's fucking convoluted logic and it's more likely that he's just a manipulative prick with his own agenda.

"You put lives on the line by assuming my method of completing a mission contradictory to my previous performance! What the hell were you thinking?! Someone is missing their whole damn STOMACH because of you!"

Is what I want to say. But I can't just yell at the captain general. No matter how utterly retarded the decision is. I can however voice my opinion.

"Sir Regulus, I know I have a dragon slaying sword, but I don't know a thing about fighting elves. You should have told me, or at least had me go alone. Regulus looks away.

"I'm sorry Artemis... I thought what I was doing was for the best of the kingdom.."

>"Enough."

The king stands up.

>"Regulus, I wish to speak with you later. Artemis, I suggest you go make sure your squad is all right. The mission is complete and the money has been deposited into your account. Again, please see what you can do about your wounded teammates. It would hurt your relationship with the other groups if they were injured badly."

He is the last person you want to be around, but wait until Regulus leaves before you do. Follow him until you are around other knights.

Then draw your sword. Demand he answers your questions now. If he refuses, Royal Battle. To the truth or to the death.

Try to contain your smile. Fail at it. And then uhm... we would need time magic. So we need to befriend a light elf, and that seems a little difficult. Unless the wind dragon is around and can do something. But besides probably being very weak he's also a bit of a dick, so we can't count on that.

Artemis, what if Regulus is the Earth Dragon in disguise? Can't we just... poke him a little, to be sure? I'm rather worried about what will happen when Regulus and the king talk.

Hey Shadow dragon, the wind dragon could detect your presence, can you do the same to him? Or for the earth dragon, at that? Also knowing your name would be nice.

Anyways, the Academy is the best choice... but think about what just happened. You can't just walk in and start asking favors, you need to walk in, gather who is there so you don't have to repeat yourself, and apologize for your failure to protect their friend. Then make explanations about what happened, in detail. The more they understand the more they'll be able to and most importantly willing to help. They can give us the answers to more than just Saisai's age problem.

Not even to save the others? Or at least prevent the ones at fault for your own demise from benefiting even more? Is there anything you care about aside from continuing your own existence? We're trying to do the right thing here... and besides the more we know the less likely Art gets killed any more surprises.

Pass Mimi a note explaining this, then go to Morgan's place and tell her you'll need to eat that dinner with her at the hospital cafeteria, and you'll explain why on the way. She'll understand.

Regulus has been having dragons knocked off one after the other. That is very bad, and something we need to put a stop to.
Motive is the BIG question though, since there doesn't seem to be any reason for him to be doing this; the Dark Elves aren't hostile so killing you just made things worse for humans and thus his stated reason is a blatant lie.
One possibility is that he is or is controlling a dragon and is killing the other dragons off for the sake of power.

We need to talk to Sharaes about this, and any information you can give us now will make that faster and more productive.

How long would the body last? If we use a feather and bring the body back to life, even if unwell due to the time involved maybe other kinds of healing can help repair it. And although we can't safely freeze the body directly, we can apply ice to slow the process. We should get on that immediately.

Ask Morgan if the Academy might have something useful here, maybe that they use to preserve choice monster bits or whatever? Or maybe they might just have everything we need, I'm sure they'd pool their resources for this. We'll need to ask them ourselves I guess. Other than that... if we're looking for magic beyond our kin and specifically related to ice, the only one to talk to is Sharaes. And I'm sure you'd realize that would be awkward right now. But I don't see a better idea if the Academy isn't able to help.

Aeryr, if you're hiding around here and can hear me I would like you to know you're a dick.

"There are a few solutions for that.
The first is to freeze her so quickly that ice crystals can't grow, which will keep her body from being damaged in the process. A powerful ice spell would do that.
The second is to bring her down to just below freezing, since the body is full of impure water that will depress the freezing point. Being so cold will prevent decay for quite awhile.
The third is to use a preservative to keep the body from degrading. Flooding her body with anything that prevents decay would do the task.
The fifth is using healing magic to keep her body somewhat alive.

Most of these can be combined, but the chance of success only gets worse the longer we wait. Cool her down to just above freezing and start using healing magic to buy us some time while preparing for further preservation techniques.

The surgery will happen when we're ready to revive her.

Morgan, tell your suppliers this is under the orders of a royal knight if that will get you priority.

I'm going to see if there's anybody at the academy who is doing research on regrowing lost organs.

Kacey, Dark Elves use magic that does things with souls, right? The twins have some sort of strong mind-joining going on, so I'd like you to find a Dark Elf willing to help. Leona's suffering is worse due to the connection being severed, so we want to store Fleur's soul in something so Leona will have that much in the meanwhile, and they'll still be together if we fail. Probably keep her in Leona herself."

>The first is to freeze her so quickly that ice crystals can't grow, which will keep her body from being damaged in the process. A powerful ice spell would do that.

Unlikely. We'd need too many powerful, arrogant idiots.

>The second is to bring her down to just below freezing, since the body is full of impure water that will depress the freezing point. Being so cold will prevent decay for quite awhile.

See point one.

>The third is to use a preservative to keep the body from degrading. Flooding her body with anything that prevents decay would do the task.

Most preservatives, if not all, are deadly poisonous. Meaning... We'd kill her when she wakes up again. Painfully.

>The fifth is using healing magic to keep her body somewhat alive.

Yay, one that works.

Putting the body on ice, not completely freezing it, will slow the decay considerably. Just put the body in a very cold room. ALMOST freezing but not quite. That will prevent decay, probably enough to be able to res her in a week.

Definitely do the operation now.

Artemis and the others discuss the best methods for preserving her body until such a feather can be acquired.
Suddenly he feels a surge of power within him

Artemis can create a new Limit Break:
It is up to the Guardians to make one for him. His current Limit Break, Disjunction of Souls will now only cost 90 GP. This new one will cost the normal 100 GP.
Also Artemis is now stronger, both physically and mentally. He can enhance any of his existing skills to a far greater degree then before.
Please choose wisely when creating a Limit Break as it will be a while before his next one is available.

Let's try a spin on an older idea, then. Hopefully we are strong enough for this one...

[LIMIT BREAK: PHOENIX REBIRTH]
>A powerful ability based on the healing power of the phoenix, inspired by Artemis' magics of Cure and Fire and his experiences of dying and returning to life.

>As a warrior it instantly recovers many of the wounds of the user, and for a small duration cloaks their body and weapon in flames that harm enemies and gradually regenerates the users health.

>As a mage tendrils of divine healing flame extend and surround the target, recovering all wounds, restoring missing flesh, and bringing the spark of life back to the target. This also drains the users mana, and if the target is heavily damaged or decayed they may suffer wounds as well. On the already living a temporary surge of vigor is granted in addition to healing.

"Wait... I think I can heal her."

>"huh?"

Artemis walks past them and into Fleur's room. He can feel Leona's glare from under her mask.

"What do you want?"

Artemis doesn't answer. He raises his staff and points it at Fleur.

"!! What are you-!?"

Artemis holds up his hand to stop Leona. She watches and thin tendrils of fire expand from Artemis's staff. The flames cover Fleur's body, singeing the blanket over her.
Leona stands by watching.
She starts to say something but stops when Fleur gasps. After a few more struggling breaths she she seems to stabilize. Her chest moves up and down, her skin seems more flush.

"H-how..."

Artemis smiles at her. A sudden pain grips him and he begins coughing out black smoke. His vision starts going black when he feels someone shove a potion into his mouth.
He quickly drinks it and stops coughing.

"Morgan?"

He feels himself being dragged out of the room, completely drained.

"It's okay Artemis, I have you."

He hears Kacey running down the hall calling after High Priest Larks.
Artemis closes his eyes to rest.

That was your new limit break, based on your fire and healing magic and the fact that you've died and come back before. But most importantly, the shadow dragon gave you that little push over the edge, so I'd say we owe her one for that.

It wouldn't have been nearly so hard on you if she wasn't so long gone and missing organs, so don't be afraid to use it if an ally falls in battle. Also if you're in fighting mode it'll be a different effect.

Art, who did you ask the last few times you needed to know where to find information on strange and obscure subjects?

Oh, also, we were contemplating telling the king that the wind dragon radically altered Saisai's body. Since time magic changes things completely instead of temporarily altering them he wouldn't detect any magical effects on her at all, which would prove her natural form was changed.
However, since her form was changed there's no way to tell what what it used to be. Since her family is appears to be completely human, it would lend credence to the claim that the ears and tail aren't supposed to be there.

That way the king would know about her ears, tail, and loss of years, and would think all of them to be injuries suffered in his service. Because of that they couldn't get her expelled or executed as a traitor if they were to be discovered.
Further, the king would have cause to use his own resources to help her recover. If you can't find a way to get her back to her real age then the King would stand a much better chance of success.

You might have to hit the books again. No telling if light elf time magic is some deep secret, but surely someone's taken notes somewhere.

Saisai might not like it, but this could be an opportunity for her to be free. To start over, and grow up how she wants to, with the full benefit of her prior experiences. If she used her current knowledge of physical conditioning, by the time she's an adult again she'd be a grandmaster.

She could even pursue other interests, try things she never got the opportunity to as the child of a noble. You could be there for her as support when she actually needs an adult, of course, but that won't be long.

Then again it might be ideas like this that have Saisai irritated, besides Mimi's teasing and the actual predicament she's in.

He goes to the Academy and finds Sarah. He explains a bit about the situation and asks her if she knows anyone who's familiar with Time Magic.

"Uhm... Felix. She'd know the most about it. I can call her if ya want."

"Please."

She nods and walks off. She returns with another bespectacled girl tailing behind her.

>"This the guy?"

"Yep."

>"All right. I was studying so listen up, I don't have a lot of free time. Time Magic doesn't use up Mana like other spells. It uses up something humans call Time Points. Depending on how long you live you accumulate more of these points. All time magic consumes these points. For this exact reason there can be no human time mage. Their weak bodies simply die off far too quickly to gain enough points to cast a decent spell. So to help out this friend of a friend of yours you'd need to find either a Light Elf, and I highly doubt they'll listen to you, or the Wind Dragon himself, again another being I doubt will listen to you. Ask if other dragons might know this magic.

No matter what the answer is go visit Shareas.

We also have to find that elf that kinda owes us something for our help if other dragons can't help us :D

I don't suppose Guardian power can't be converted into a meaningful amount of it, by any chance? Ask about that, and ask her for a quick list of what other spells light elves are known to use, and any advice for when talking with one.

I don't know about talking to Sharaes, if Felix thinks it's a feasible idea then fine. But remember it's going to be damn awkward seeing her, you need to be ready to ask and answer some hard questions.

Now then... go buy a nice and well-covering hat for a little girl.

"So would any other dragons know how to use time magic?"

"Were you listening? I said Wind Dragon. Maybe the Earth Dragon but good luck finding it."

"So are there any spells I should know? Time magic wise."

"Nope. I doubt you could cast em."

"Well I may go against someone who knows it."

"Then you're screwed. Honestly how can you beat someone who can rewind time? Fool."

She leaves.

Why girls so mean to me?

Agreed, we gotta go talk to her.

Artemis thanks Sarah and leaves the Academy and the kingdom. He goes over to the Water Dragon Shrine.

What the...?

The Shrine is destroyed, pieces of it lying around it.
Artemis can sense that the magic powering it is gone.

Shadow, are the shrines tied to the lives of dragons? Aeryr's, for example?
Also, do you have any abilities that would help with travel? Shadow-stepping? Flight? Anything along those lines?

Well, this is worrying. I really hope relations with the water dragon haven't soured, but I more think this was done to keep you from seeing her. And I would be surprised if Regulus isn't the one who did it.

...I wonder just how broken it is. I mean if just the power source is missing maybe we ca get around that. Try applying some mana to it, or applying us to it. Failing that I really don't know... probably a good time to see the king.

Only way I see to help Saisai now is we wait until we find a light elf in a non hostile situation, and then get our charm on. Good luck with that. She would be her old age again before that was likely to happen. Of course there's that one we already met, and I think he doesn't want to be found.

Head back and tell the king about this.
This is bad; I don't know if I should hope Sharaes was the one who smashed it or not.

Hrm... Maybe you could hire somebody to get a message to that Light Elf? Since the academy has people going there for the stones we might be able to piggyback our request on them.
Assuming, of course, that you can't find a pretext to go there anyway.

We're going to have to tell Saisai the bad news.

Artemis runs back to the castle to the king's chamber. He knocks on the door.

Of course! But first inform him of Fleur's status and how that happened, and ask about Regulus. I rather suspect he was involved with this myself but depending on what the king says you may not want to float that theory. I'll leave that to your own judgment. By the way, if this group happens to include Regulus, that's probably a good reason to not mention it.

Yes! Say yes!
You'll need to go through the Hurrikane mountain range, so ask who is assembling the team. If he's the one doing it then ask if there are any Alchemists on the roster.

Before you leave we're going to need to contract with Mimi properly. Something along the lines of 'providing storage and shelter for Art's household'.
We also need you to buy a helmet covered in sharp spikes. With a chinstrap.

OH! Also! Ask the king if he knows any capable time magic users, or where you could find one.

We're going to visit Sharaes. I promise you that no harm will come to her from us, and we'll strive to ensure no harm comes to her at all.
This should all be very obvious to you since we absolutely adore her.

This is a question you should be able to answer without telling us anything that is at all useful: With yourself and Sharaes being the first and second female dragons, which one is the third female dragon?
Is it the Earth dragon?

"Sire I would be honored to join them. Who's going and what path will we take?"

"With you will be two senior captains. Former captain Priest Ion will be your healer and Regulus, who I am now keeping a close eye on, will be the main fighter. We still need a forth man though..."

"Regulus sire?"

"Yes. He was the one who told me about the Shrine's damage in the first place and insisted that he lead the mission. While he may be suspicious he is still the Captain General. Anyway you will be going through the Hurrikane Mountain Range. However Ion is a gifted teleporter so the trip will be a bit easier."

"Hurrikane Mountain Range!? Sire Thought Eaters live there!"

Thought Eaters... A creature that latches onto your head and eats your intelligence... Dreadful things.

Get a bunch of healing and mana potions, plus some general antidotes.

Oy, this is going to be a problem. How long are we going to keep this little girl in our room? I mean even the wait for you to get back is going to be too much at this rate. Nevermind if she is staying a kid for the next few years...

Get in there, stop the fight, have Mimi give back whatever, tell Saisai to be quiet, inform her the bad news that only a light elf spending a century worth of power can fix her.

I think we're going to have to hide her somewhere else, because this isn't working. At least until you get back again. Every option is difficult, just ask her where she wants to hang until you get back. You can recommend Morgan or Kacey, and if you give her some cash she could even rent a room. Or the two of them here can stay if they make peace.

Heh, glad to see the king understands subtlety.

The overt meaning of what he says is "Do what you're told, try to not kill anybody."
However, his word choice also says "Keep a close eye on Regulus, and don't let him harm Sharaes. Try to take him alive if you can."

Walk in and say "She can't give things to anybody without my say-so; it's in her contract. Mimi, would you please give Saisai back whatever you took from her?
Saisai, only the Wind Dragon or a Light Elf can reverse the magic on you. The Wind Dragon is dead, so I've got to track down a Light Elf that's willing to help."

Ok, contract for Mimi:
Task: Be a safe-haven mimic*
Role: 'Mimic' Mimi
Rules:
-Changed terms
--Termination:
---By mutual agreement
---Agree to a new contract with current contract holder.
--No more "then die" terms; these are replaced with "then feel really guilty about it until forgiven".
--Art's orders must be followed, and have highest priority. The orders of other members of Art's household are to be followed as long as they don't conflict with other orders.
--Mimi's bag may be used by other members of Art's household.

*Explanation: Her task is to provide a safe place for Art and members of his household to store items, and as a residence when her domain becomes large enough for the task. All members of Art's household are considered contract holders, although Art's orders come before all others. She is contractually forbidden from eating the souls of any members of Art's household.
