I'm shoved and tumble back over a large pipe resting at ground level, narrowly avoiding the blade as it comes slicing through the back wall. My leaf wasn't so lucky. The wall is swiftly cut to pieces and falls back into a chamber behind it.

:Maskedman: "Mine apologies. T'was not mine intent to ambush thee. Though slaying tis indeed what I had in store for thee."

What the hell is going on here?

I'm pretty sure he's a GHOST ROBOT so you'd have better luck smashing the jar-helmet. What's it made of, clay? You can crush clay pretty easily. If he's a hardcore robot that does not have a clay head though...

Introduce yourself to the Tanuki chick. You might get to score with her later, after all, best to get names out of the way so she knows what to moan later. Oh, yeah, the robot. Uh, try slashing that very vulnerable looking spine thing on his back.

Smug bastard.

The question now is whether or not the doubles are illusions or if they're actually tangible and can affect things... In either case, smashing the frontal grate of the (possibly clay) helmet may further damage his ability to fight you. Remember, we're a ninja, not a stand-and-fight type of guy. Dirty tricks and fighting unfairly is pretty much what we do. First off, be careful, as his pose suggests he might be going for a quick-draw-slice, perhaps trying to slash through two or all of the illusions at once. Also, if I may suggest a weakpoint... When you were 'behind' him, there was a cylindrical section that slightly resembled a spine. It seemed less than adequately protected, and perhaps severing it might further cripple your opponent.

Tengai were generally made of reeds. (See http://communication.ucsd.edu/shaku/Shakumail.2003/1062.html for more information). Since his is pretty obviously not made of reeds, I'd assume it's made of robutt materials, IE steel, so on.

Joking aside, he is a lot more lethal then robogirl from before, and she was also identified as being a reprogrammed ally who happens to be a legend to the character in question; so he had many motivations to try to save "her", robotits not one of them.

Because she was 'Musashi' and used an Oar. Manewis specified that there were two prototypes sent to Onigashima. To wit -- ' I refer to the legend of Musashi and Kojiro, the legendary S.A.M.U.R.A.I. prototypes on which the N.O.B.I. model androids were based. As the legend goes, both were deployed to Onigashima centuries ago. ' He was clearly familiar with Musashi. He uses a large no-dachi style sword. Odds are pretty goddamn high that he's the other S.A.M.U.R.A.I., Kojiro.
>>
No. 303672 ID: f0e3ae

>>303667
I was not familiar with said legend...

That being said, last time it was a gen 3 android vs a gen1 of same model; so capture was feasible, and he almost succeeded in capturing her.

Now its a squishy human vs an android that he has no way of knowing to be a programmed good guy AI. Said android cuts through walls, looks like a demon knight (rather then a robot) and the guy fighting him has no means of reprogramming / debegugging. Oh. and he doesn't know him...

I would like to capture and reprogram both, very much so... I don't think its robotits, I think its a matter of meta.
If we metagame lots, then he should run now... and try to capture.
If little, then he should stab it in the eye first in hope of that killing the armored demon. (that eye doesn't look like a robot camera, it looks organic).. speaking of, you are more versed in Japanese lore then me (which is meta knowledge btw)... but it still doesn't look like an android.. since when do androids wear helmets? and have a single yellow organic looking eye? looks like a demon wearing armor to me... but I could be wrong

wat

The legend in question is something Manewis told us last chapter. No knowledge of ancient folklore required, though it MAY not be a legend the other characters are familiar with.

If robots were the final solution in combat tactics, they wouldn't bother training organic warriors any more. He certainly has weaknesses, limited battery life and overheating danger if nothing else. The longer he keeps fighting against illusions, the better position we will be in.

Of course, while he is distracted and busy, I might offer the alternative solution of making an escape and getting on with the mission.
>>
No. 303710 ID: eba49f

Androinds would possibly wear helmets to keep ninjas from stabbing them in the lenses.
Now that I think about advantages living warriors might have over mechanical ones, do we (as scarf guy) have a limited amount of mana with which to summon shadow clones and stuff?
I second the motion to have the illusions dodge away from him at this point, as he seems to be getting ready for a draw-slice to try and take them all out.

:Kensuyata: "Thank you, for the phone and all of the heads ups you've been giving me."

:Ryu: "Hey, don't mention it."

Oh hey! This thing's got a typing ap, brings up a little thumb keyboard and everything!

"Manewis, I got a better phone, can you send me that map?"

"Who is this? How did you receive this number?"

"It's me you stupid robot, Kensuyata."

"Who?"

"... The tanuki."

"Oh, well, is your newly acquired phone capable of receiving a map ap?"

"I think so."

"Very well, file incoming."

The transfer has begun. I should have Manewis' map in a little while.

Let's move forward I can't think of any more questions. Perfect excuse if Kojiro shows up again just say we have no idea how to get to the roof and that he just kind of rushed off without telling us how to get there and that now if we want to formally duel, it's got to be in the HEART's room and has to take us there because the HEART room is probably an arena-esqe Final Boss room perfect for a duel, if I got my tropes right. Then it's "get the fuck outta here" time.

:Ryu: "It's a matter of very intense concentration. I'm always just super focused on my ninja training all the time, ya know? Speaking of concentration, I don't think you realize how much it takes to do this with another person."

:Kensuyata: "Oh hush, you're doin' fine. So, any chance you could teach me that whole water walking thing?"

:Ryu: "You mean you can't? I was kind of under the assumption you were just sand bagging to pull it off at the most awesome time."

:Kensuyata: "No, I can't... Nearly my entire clan was killed when the demons invaded the mainland. Our senseis gave their lives to buy us students a little more time. We never really got to learn the advanced stuff before our trials by fire, as it were..."

:Ryu: "Oh my god, you have an angst back story too? That is so cool! Uh, I mean, I'm sorry to hear that. Maybe I could try and teach you a thing or two later, in the middle of a dark river tunnel might not be the best place to start."

Well, the tunnel looks to head on for a while. I guess I can take this time to chat with Ryu, if I can think of anything to say or ask, or check in with Manewis or something.

MISSION LOG: After being awoken by the Tanuki I explored the MANUFACTURING WING. It has been 100 years since my team's failed last stand.
-While using a RECHARGE CHAMBER it was sabotaged and MOMOTARU SENSEI'S SWORD was left behind. I do not know what this means, but I have taken it with me.
-A series of traps lead me to a duel in the WASTE DISPOSAL WING where I encountered one of the two legendary Synthetic Autonomous Melee Utility Robotic Assault Infiltrator unit Musashi. Combat resulted in my inducing an overheat on Musashi, the loss of my LIMITER SCARF, obtaining a GRAPPLE LAUNCHER with MAGNETIC TIP, and obtaining Musashi's HEAT OAR.

-I have returned to MANUFACTURING to attempt to gain access to the upper levels.

Our enemies already seem to have a decent idea of where we are, and grate covers can be useful for throwing into machinery and such.
The bodies rising and rampaging seems fairly likely, but the way I see it, if the zombies are working with the demons the vents will open on their own as a trap, and if the zombies are not working for the demons than their rampage through demon-land will work in our favor.

So it's not as impossible for them to capture one, once you think about it. Still bad news for those targets on the mainland, though. Start looking around for the best place to stick that HEAT OAR to disable the launcher.

Look up and greet the bot on top of the launcher. Isn't he the one from the bottom of the trash compactor? Ask him how he got out of there.

...You know, this warhead might be a viable way of destroying (or at least dealing major damage to) the island. All you would need to do is sabotage its ability to leave the launcher (perhaps with some strategic HEAT-OAR welding or fuel siphoning) then 'launch' them, preferably from a distance or with some means of escape.

Still, in the short term you could damage its utility as a weapon without effecting our purposes by damaging that fin on the missile (if that is part of the missile rather than the launcher, it is a bit hard to tell from here).

Bucket-head over there is fond of announcing himself before attacking, so he won't be a direct threat until that point.

:manewis:"Well, how does one who speaks of honor justify such actions, including the bombardment of unsuspecting civilian cities the safety of your fortress?"

All Mainland mass production androids, such as myself, are stamped with a manufacturer's seal on our power cores, located within our chests. They can be ejected for easy access during maintenance. It is possible that the legendary prototypes could have similar seals, but uncertain.

:Manewis:"I shall take my leave S.A.M.U.R.A.I. Perhaps you may want to inspect your Power Core at some point. I feel it may be enlightening."

I head to the other end of the roof. There is a door with a ramp leading down. I traverse several chambers, ignoring off shoots, following the path I suspect will be the most direct route to Kunoichi's distress beacon. Odd. I don't recall ever coming to this wing of the island before... Why would Kunoichi be here?

Hold up. Check the window for hostiles before continuing down the hall. Do you have low-light or infrared optics? If not, just shine a light in there.

"R&D?" Research and Development. It's likely that what Kunoichi was carrying when he died was brought here for analysis, including the distress beacon.

Do you have an auxiliary coolant port? Maybe there is something in the R&D labs that can be jerry-rigged as a substitute for your lost cooling banner. A cryogenic gas canister, perhaps?

The glass blocks my infrared, and the light in this room is interfering with my night vision. I smash the tinted glass using my SUPERIOR STRENGTH to get a better look in the room. There appears to be various machinery piled about, or hanging from the ceiling. The largest object in the room rests on the far wall. It seems to have some manner of tarp draped over it. There are several wires running from the ceiling to what ever it is.

I am uncertain of Kunoichi's death. The beacon was not active when we were forced to separate. It was only activated within the last few years.

It occurs to me that it has been quite some time since I updated this quest and perhaps a slight recap is in order. Manewis is on his way to the R&D wing in search of his partner K.U.N.O.-01. Manewis' inventory consists of; KUNAI LAUNCHER, SHURIKEN-LAUNCHER, MOMOTARU-SENSEI'S KATANA, CLAYMORE MINE, TRIP WIRE, GRAPPLE LAUNCHER WITH MAGNETIC HEAD.
>>505460
Manewis is incapable of performing the Wall Jump maneuver. He is, instead, capable of performing 3 rapid, short range teleports, but this maneuver drains a portion of his POWERCELL. When is POWERCELL is depleted, he will shut down again.

If you've lost your grip on your HEAT OAR, use the MAGNETIC GRAPPLE to recover it. Then fire the MAGNETIC GRAPPLE at the metal exterior of the building to the right/east (from our perspective) such that your outward momentum carries you in an arc to the right/east and down. If you cna, reel the MAGNETIC GRAPPLE in while doing that so you don't end up too far down.

Once you got your footing against the wall, you can jam your HEAT OAR in horizontally to give yourself a place to stand while disengaging and firing the MAGNETIC GRAPPLE to a new position, then pull the HEAT OAR out when you swing forward.

Of worry is that the Mecha Tengu didn't crash to the ground when it lost one of its wings. It may still be flight capable, just at a reduced level. And even if it can't fly anymore, it can still lean out of that hole in the wall and fling whirlwinds at you.
