I don't know, is giant hoop earrings, a t-shirt and something tied around your base really that sexy? And you weren't wearing anything that I could see in any of the other pictures.
Unless you were dressing up that bird-thing statue to your side there instead? But that makes no sense... why dress up a statue when you're a magic mirror?

I could go upstairs now, go see the other girls, or stay here to help Shai-shai to get ready. Madame Zo is upstairs, and I am not sure if I will be allowed up.

Today is the day when I will be allowed on the main floor! I have come of age at last! Eeee! I won't have to live in the Dorm anymore!

I don't know why she thinks that she is so much better, even though she is thin and pretty and has actually met a boy...

I go into the other room to see if any of the other girls can chat! I say hello to Jorta.

>"Oh, hey Chenhua. I like your outfit. Where did you get that?"

"It was when Madame Zo told us about the Serratian market wagon. Remember, she brought that weird smelling stuff in the red bowl?"

>"Oh yeah, it smelled like a burning rug!"

Jorta is a Toglaat, from the steppes. She has the body of a warrior! Madame Zo said that she could lift a barrel of ale with her legs alone! I don't really know what that is supposed to mean!

I think that I will go into The Boudoir...

The Boudoir is the large, open room downstairs attached to The Dorm. It has the stairs which lead upstairs, but I have not been up there for more than a few minutes, and I was escorted by Madame Zo!

9:30 A.M.

Six and a half hours to go.

There are three other girls in here: Shan-ha, Souli and Zayyima. Shan-ha is using a vanity to put on her make-up.

I actually do have a little bit of time to kill. It is so hard to wait! What should I do?!

Go through a mental checklist of things that are expected of you to do and say once it's showtime. Rehearse them to yourself if necessary, you must be flawless and without guilt if something untoward should happen. Such as sabotage by one of the crueler sisters in the building.

Zayyima is wearing a Serratian outfit, too! Augh, no!

"I love your outfit, Zayyima!" I say.

>"Thank you, Chenhua. You look... nice, too."

"Oh, wow Chenhua, where'd you get that wrap?" Souli asks. Her outfit is a kind of ugly teal color, and it hides her form.

I go through the spice cart story again, and Souli remembers.

"What have you to been doing as of late?"

>"Some of the girls are planning the big sneak-out after The Coming-out," Zayyima whispers in her tongue-heavy Tilan accent, "It's the only tradition that Madame Zo doesn't know about!"

"One of the older girls from upstairs came down here last night and told us about it. You were already asleep, I think..."

>>414810
I could use a small bite to eat, but Madame Zo said not to eat too much before The Coming-out.

I don't think that I smell, but I can take a bath if I want to. There is one bath in The Boudoir. I will brush my beak shortly. My outfit is made of silk, so there is nothing stuck to it!

I do hope that Shan-ha is not planning anything stupid. She can be such a pest!

But... I've been looking forward to today for just as long. If I do well at the Coming-out, I will win favor with the entire house, including Madame Zo. I'm not really sure what comes after the coming-out. The older girls from upstairs won't tell us, but I am sure that it is amazing!

Taking clothing is going to be difficult. I mean, the accusations lobbed at you from any one person would create an interesting situation, to say the least.

Shan-Ha is the dictionary definition of a bitch. It seems like the obvious, revenge based route. Yet, that's only going to lead to a huge fight. You can't risk a black eye or a cracked beak.

No, you need to 'steal' an outfit from the most timid person of the lot, that is if you don't think you could ask anyone for assistance. Just remember to try and whatever outfit to your size, if you can.

That still does not solve what happened to my clothes, though. I actually think that Shan-ha was telling the truth.

I'mmmm thinking, hm, let's seee heeeeeere. Six parts-of-ten to the Lillies. Four parts four yours truly, and oh! That leaves a whole part of ten right back to The Peephouse!

>Madame Zo looks shocked suddenly. I have only seen that look once before, and that was when Shai-shai and I spilled ink all over the great rug in the middle of the Boudoir as children. The look subsides as quickly as it had appeared.

>"One part of ten? We... we can't subsist on that! We reveived two parts in the last offering, and these girls are even new!"

The general consensus among the girls seems to be that men are greedy, flamboyant monsters devoid of any and all compassion. A few of them were frightened by Master Rin - Shai-shai especially.

>"I didn't think that Madame Zo would ever let anyone treat us that badly!" says Souli, her voice squeaky and eager to gossip as usual.

I ask who would be willing to leave during the Sneak-out. For good, I add to the end. They fall silent, and no one volunteers.

Forgive her. Completely.
Do not even suggest a 'don't do it again', as she's in such a fragile state.. and if you all sneak out and stay out, you may need to rely on one another utterly.
Tell her that she can always talk to you about her worries. You are friends. Sisters, even.

Besides, your choices of clothing when you leave should be a mixture of a) humble, unassuming and b) (hopefully) valuable.

You know you can't take it all with you. What is the most you have had to carry, and how long did you have to carry it? A few minutes? Have you ever had to walk for hours before? Or run for more than a few moments?
Shai-Shai is at an advantage when the time comes to escape, and hide. She is taller, and may be slightly stronger than yourself. According to that cruel man, she is 'plain', so she may not stand out as much. Your own beauty may end up working against you.

The Big Sneak-out, involving all of the girls in the Peephouse Boudoir, takes place TOMORROW night. According to Souli and Zayyima, who have actually talked to one of the older girls, the person who wins The Coming-out has to stay behind to meet a visitor who comes to the Peephouse.

As far as I know, there are no guards other than the older girls. Since they seem to be the ones who told us about the sneak-out, they probably did it once themselves. They might even help us, but I have never met them!

If Shai-shai and I were to leave tonight, we would be leaving Shan-ha behind. She was the only other one in favor of leaving "for good".

This is the potential sequence of events:

1.Leave tonight (optional)
2. Shan-ha meets with Yon Tonpaht tomorrow evening
3. The Big Sneak-out occurs while Shan-ha is with the Tonpaht, and she is left behind according to tradition

If we want to include Shan-ha with us, then we will have to leave tonight or tomorrow morning! The older girls may try to stop us if they see Shan-ha!

I am imagining in my head a map of what I know of the Peephouse. I know the downstairs like the back of my hand, but the upstairs is still vague!

As obnoxious as Shan-Ha is, Rin is far worse. I don't think even she deserves to be left to the mercies of his master. You need to get out of here with her tonight.

Okay... So the obvious exit requires you to sneak past both the older girls' AND the Madame's quarters, on a rather important night when Madame Zo is already upset and perhaps less likely to sleep. (How deeply does she usually sleep, anyway?)

This does not sound like an ideal plan. You need some more options.

Is there any possibility of escaping by way of the courtyard? If so, that might be a better route. What kind of walls surround it? Do you have any furniture, rope, or rope-like fabric you could use to climb them?

Do you know of any other exits? Basements aren't usually well supplied with exits, but the kitchen is likely to have one. Any convenient windows?

The tracks seem to end where the beast is pointed! There is nothing in that direction but a corral of those big boxes.

Shai-shai, Shan-ha and I are unable to climb inside, because the containers are locked.

>"I am not touching that filthy wood!" Shan-ha says, and I do my best to quiet her down.
