Hey Ombra~ It's me, Sharaes. Masil visited last night and she told me all the dragons were being killed? That's not good. Anyway we'll see if there's something we can do about that. In the meantime if you're ever in trouble you and your host are more than welcome to stay in the Lakes~

Saisai wakes up after an odd night of sleep.
For once her dreams weren't disturbed with... Perverse visions of her friends.
Instead they were far more cryptic.

Ugh...
Morning guys...

Stupid Sharaes. I don't need her help. We can do just fine without her.

Seems Maggie isn't here. And the room is still a mess. How can anyone sleep in a place like this? Downstairs looked pretty much spotless compared to this.
So, what's on the agenda?

Let's visit the merfolk. Sharaes just spoke with Masil, and contacting Masil would be very useful.

It's not that we need help from Sharaes. We need help from Masil, and Sharaes should know how to get in touch with her now.

We should also buy some mana gems and visit the Dark Elves when we can, to get started on Soul Magic. I think we should stop looking to Artemis to solve your mana problems. It seems to be giving you the wrong mindset.

How about this. What do YOU want to do, Saisai? Where do you want to go now? Where do you want to live? With the tigerfolk, maybe? Get in touch with your heritage?
>>
No. 505369 ID: 76b151

Honestly? Saisai really has no choice but to continue on the path she is on. Unless she wants to abandon ALL responsibilty and give up on preventing the end times. However I believe she wouldn't have joined the knights in the first place if that was the case.

The big problem with getting mana crystals is that we are suddenly without a job. Adventuring is a possibility but you won't have the backing and clout of the Knights so the pay might not be the best.

As far as what to do right now lets go see what Artemis is up to. Forget about the mana thing for now. He is probably shell-shocked to have this happen in a single day and he has even less clue on what is going on then you do. Also we could use his help if we do go adventuring.

Ombra, I know its hard to work with the other dragons, but going at it solo has not been working. Regulus is stronger then you seperately. Especially with the Earth Dragon in his body. Remember he planned it to happen and I have no doubt he will be able to seize his powers somehow. Plus its the last thing he'd suspect. You guys have NEVER worked together and hes studied you his whole life.... just think about it for now

Morning Saisai. How you feeling after a night of hammocks and uh, whatever Maggie said those things are?

One of the first things you should be doing is checking in with your friends. See how Art's doing, and how A1 turned out. Because we care about our friends and honestly, we might need the help.

Then... we have to try and find a lead to follow up on. Which right now I think boils down to either trying the dark elves for Ombra help and soul magic, or following up on the lead from your dream last night and visiting Sharaes.

Oh, and you might have fallen asleep first, but I answered your question about the goldeon watch and future stuff last night. >>505240

Well, for one thing we need to talk to Morgan about making a feather of life for when we decide to hunt down and revive Oraes. Healing her body will still be a problem, but I think we can convince the Oli to revive themselves and use their collective power to heal her. Of course, we'll have to find her first, but maybe Maggie can help with that? She implied that she can feel any mind in the entire kingdom, so she might be able to just go down to the Hurrikane Mountains and start looking for the Oli. Sharaes might be able to give us a general area to look in, too. We'll need some Alchemists to dig up her body, too.

Oh, and about the feather of life, one of the steps is to channel mana into it. It is very important that this is done slowly! If you do it too quickly, there will be an explosion and you'll have to use the feather to bring back whoever was putting the mana into it.

You said most of the dragons are made out of their element in their dragon form. Do you think we can just use a feather on a large bonfire to bring back Thasti?

First goal is see about putting an adventuring party together. That means getting ahold of Artemis, seeing if AI is fixed, and helping Maggie not be overwhelmed with all this death. Also maybe recruiting someone new?

In any case we need to get out and see the situation now for ourselves.

>How can anyone sleep in a place like this?
I dunno, maybe she just floats around?

We need all the help we can get. You're in no position to be prideful, anyway.

Sharaes called. You can go visit the merfolk if you're in trouble.

Most of the Knights are dead, many of the dragons are dead or possessing mortal hosts and the world is on the brink of disaster. You're smart enough to know we can't be picky.

Oh god my head. This is too much this early in the morning...
You ask me what I want to do...
I want to lay down and sleep for the next few weeks or so. But that's not something I can do right now. I may have left the knights but I still have a mission and I think it's a pretty important one.
You guys are right about one thing though.
There's no way in hell I can do this alone. So I guess first I need to gather up a party. I know where A1 should be and Artemis is at his home so I just need to find out where he lives. That should be easy enough.
Then maybe visit the Merfolk? I wanna see the Dark Elves on my own honestly but stopping by to see the Water and Light dragon might not be so bad.
Alright, to A1!

Saisai does her usual morning stuff before heading out. It seems that at some point in the night Maggie put a ladder by the bedroom hatch so that makes it easier for Saisai.
The Kingdom is so quiet when she steps out. People are walking around but no one seems to want to talk.
She makes it to the School and down to Cid's room. She knocks on the door and waits a moment before it's opened. Cid pokes his head out and smiles

>"Saisai, nice to see you again."

"Morning Cid. Is A1 here?"

>"Yeah she's here. I'm working on fixing her body still."

"Oh? How much longer is that going to take?"

>"Mmmm.... Few more days, maybe. It's a delicate thing. And she keeps telling me stuff to add or take out so that's just taking even longer. She's up right now if you want to speak to her."

"Sure."

Cid turns around and calls out A1's name.
When Saisai sees her she almost bursts out laughing.

>A1: "..."

"..."

>"..."

"..."

>"... You can laugh if you want to."

"W-why would-PFT. W-why would I l-laugh at hahaha why would I laugh at you A1?"

Apologize! While it is funny, it's much better that she's like this instead of dead or dismembered.

Well, we can't choose who has available guardian abilities. They gotta ping. That said...

>>/questarch/411038
We got an unspecified ping here. Probably Maggy, unless it was Yuyu. (We might be able to guess the ability through, if anyone wants to dig through the old threads our future stuff memories. I can't remember if the mimic or physic gave abilities, before).

We know Art is mana+.

>>/questarch/463470
A1 pinged here. (Holy).

...I wouldn't worry much about trying to force any of this stuff though. All it really means is Saisai eventually gets an extra bonus for being nice to her friends.

She smiles again and looks away

>"It is... A bit embarrassing, honestly. I feel as though I wasted too much time and alienated too many people to obtain something I already have. I also feel... Happy." She nods as best as she can. "Yes, happy. Many of my worries are gone and I no longer feel as though something is just wrong."

"That's good. And don't worry about alienating anyone. Artemis, Maggie, and I are still your friends."

>"Thank you. I... Will need to talk to them both later. When my body is done."

"What are you having done to it anyway."

>"Classified."

"Well, alright then. Oh! Do you know about what's happened to the kingdom?"

"I'll probably do the same. In the meantime though I wanted to go on a little adventure of my own. I figured I'd take a party with me. Would you be interested in joining?"

I get the feeling it changes depending on context.
Anyway, off to Artemis's place.
I remember he said he lived in a farm away from the castle and there's only one farming area I can think of. At least only one that my map points out.

Saisai talks a walk following her map to the area marked as Farming. As she walks she notices the regular stone floors of the kingdom eventually give way to well traveled dirt roads. It's a gradual transition and by the time she notices she's no longer surrounded by buildings and bricks she's already at the farm.
It seems to be mostly empty save for one woman lifting some kind of animal. She notices Saisai and smiles at her.

>You've officially hung around with us too long, Saisai. That's the kind of comment we're supposed to make!

You guys have ruined my innocence. I hope you're happy.

"I'm looking for a mage named Artemis. Have you seen him?"

The lady seems to brighten up at the mention of his name

>"That's my son. Are you a friend of his?"

"Yes. We were knights together. My name's Saisai."

>"Celes."

She puts down the animal she's carrying and shakes Saisai's hand. It's a rather firm handshake and Saisai is surprised by just how strong the lady is. She gives her hand a small shake to try and put some feeling back into it once Celes lets go.

"Nice to meet you... So where's Artemis?"

>"Oh I'm sure he's in his room reading again. We live right up this way. I'm sure he'll be glad to see you. He's been so down since the knights fell apart. I've been telling him he should try and get into the School but he wants to be like his father." She sighs. "Boys. Anyway go on up ahead."

"Thanks."

Saisai gives a small nod and walks off in the direction she pointed. She knocks on the door and after a few moments Artemis opens it. He smiles when he sees his old friend but Saisai can tell he looks like he didn't sleep very well.

>"Saisai! I didn't think I'd see you over here! What's up?"

"Hey Art. I just came by to see if you'd want to be in a little group I'm forming. There's an adventure I'm planning and I'm trying to recruit some people."

>"Sure! Anyone else on board?"

"A1. I'm going to see if Maggie will join us to."

>"That'd be great! It'll be like we're in the Knights again! What's the mission?"

"Welll... We're probably going to go and uh... Take on Regulus maybe? Or at least help uh... Revive the dragons he killed. Wait, don't close the door!"

>"Saisai the man destroyed the entire castle and killed the king. You think we can beat him?"

"Well... Not right now. But we have time. I'm going to go and do some training of my own for a while and A1 is getting her stuff together. If you do the same I think we might have a chance."

>"... Alright. I'll study some more myself. Even if we can't take him down if I can just shoot a single fireball at him I think I'll be happy."

"Yeah same here. Except with my fists."

Artemis gives a small laugh. His face seems to brighten up a bit.

"Well... I'll see you later Art. Uhm... Don't let what happened get you too down, okay?"

>"Okay. Thanks Saisai. Seeya."

She gives Artemis a pat on the shoulder and walks away.

Poor guy, he seems to be taking the whole thing a bit hard. Don't blame him, really.

A few hours pass as Saisai learns the very basics of magic and spellcasting. By the end of their session she is able to conjure a small light at the end of her thumb. It may not be much but she was very pleased to be able to do even this much

>"There you go. It's a beginner spell but with it you can light firewood, see a bit better in the dark, burn just about anything you don't want found. And you can maintain it so long as you have mana in your body."

"This is the coolest thing ever."

>"Hehe, yeah that's how I felt when I learned my first spell. Come back and I'll teach you a few other basic ones. The more advance combat level spells take years to learn but simple tricks are easy enough."

Saisai nods as she continues staring at the tiny flame at the tip of her finger with a smile on her face.

Take that tigerfolk genes, I can cast magics.

>"So is there anything in particular you wanna learn next time? It'd be nice to have something more prepared for you."

"What are my options?"

>"Well..." He thumbs through a book he has titled 'Child's First Spells' "Hmm... I can teach you Telekinesis, Gust, Create Water (Minor), Slight of Hand, or Open/Close."

"What does gust do?"

>"Exactly as it says. It creates a small gust of wind. Nothing damaging but it can distract someone."

"And Slight of Hand?"

>"It lets you do a minor magic trick like making a small object vanish or swapping out light objects for each other."

Those all sound pretty good.
>>
No. 511177 ID: bf54a8

hmm... we plan on getting soul magics and those would be primary damage dealing things. anyway, think gust would be good next. create an opening and your other skills will be able to take it.
>>
No. 511179 ID: c31f72

Get telekinesis. Being able to move things from afar is always useful. Also, being able to pull an opponent's weapons or clothing while fighting makes a good distraction
>>
No. 511181 ID: f2c20c

>>511176
Slight of Hand... can you use that to swap out something someone else is carrying? Because that could be useful. Possibly even deadly, if you can do it with a bomb or something.
>>
No. 511187 ID: d6ef5d

Slight of hand has the advantage that you're already fairly nimble. And you have a lot of potential for swapping things around if we combine the effect with your mimic pouch. (Since you could divert swapped items in there, or have a cache of items stored for swapping or planting on people).

Open/close could be useful if it worked on locks as well as doors, and being able to slam a door shut in a pursuers face at a distance is cool. Although if that's a basic children's spell, most the doors/locks you'd really like to open are probably warded against it, and any enemy you might have strong enough for you to have to run from isn't exactly going to be slowed down by a locked door.

Water is good for not dying of thirst, putting out flames, and maybe tricks like putting a water slick suddenly below an opponent.

Telekinesis, or moving things at a distance, is always useful, but it's not as if you're going to be anywhere close to Maggy's league. There's probably going to be a kind of low limit on how 'strong' your telekinesis is- how much force it can deliver, or weight it can handle.

And hey, having mana now means you can recharge the disguise charm if you need it! (Granted, the problem isn't so much keeping your ears hidden from the knights anymore, but there might be other times a disguise is useful). And maybe the gravity wand too, if that every runs out?

...I'm half surprised Art never asked about the darkness things you do, though. A lot of people would assume that's magic! (I mean, really, whose first guess is a symbiotic relationship with the soul of a dead dragon empowering you).

Be sure to thank Art for the lesson before you leave.

Gust I'm gonna write off, unless you suddenly want to flip skirts.

Create Water can be useful in many places. Slieght of hand, though? That's fucking handy. Carry around some pebbles and it's like you have Pickpocket as a spell!

Open and close is neat if you fight in buildings a lot (using a door as a weapon, heh), and Telekinesis is also good.

Slight of hand is my vote.

Telekinesis sounds fun to me. Moving something small without touching can be very important sometimes. Buuut slight of hand would probably come up more often. So go with that, unless you can do that sort of thing already. I know you're quick but you don't have the skills of a rogue I don't think.

>"It's the Lakes so you should be pretty darn safe there. The Water Dragon Sharaes guards the place pretty well. And the Merfolk wouldn't hurt a bug. Probably the safest place to visit in the world."

"Oh? Well that's good. Alright, I'll see you later."

She waves and heads off. She walks out of the kingdom and to the Dragon Shrine.

May as well visit now and say hello. See if Masil or Sharaes have any advice.

Oh. Great.

She places her hand on the Shrine and is teleported.

As Saisai is taken from the Kingdom to the Lakes she feels a sudden stab. Even in her current form it hurts...
When she opens her eyes she's standing near the edge of a mountain path.

... This doesn't look like a lake.

Ah damn...

Why are we worried about thought eaters all of a sudden though? They stalk these mountains? Do they look like anything we can keep an eye out for, or are they insubstantial kind of things?

They live in these mountains. In fact the Hurrikane Mountains are their home, almost exclusively. That's why they're normally not a problem.
And you guys are right about their impish nature. But they also hunt in packs so that's another thing to worry about. She's just gotta keep her wits about her... It won't be the thought eaters that kill her, it's the other beasts she runs into while under the effect of their eating.

>Aren't you good at jumping? Just jump down to the next ledge, and so forth. This isn't jumping up, so it shouldn't require a limit break- you're just using your ability to handle great falls... right?

Yeah. that shouldn't be so hard. It's like jumping up but in reverse. Alright, here I go.

Can we do the sage magic thing after we go talk to the Water Dragon? We're a bit pressed for time in that task.

>>
No. 514597 ID: c706eb

We fear that waiting to learn this 'Sage Magic' could result in another Dragon's death. As of right now we're moving to prevent that.
However, once we find and warn Shares and Myli helps with revivals, we'd be happy to learn.
Besides, I'm fairly certain Sage Magic is one of the strongest types of magic, if 'last time' was any indication... But it's very dangerous, literally powered with one's very life force.
>>
No. 514599 ID: 19b3c3

Sage Magic? Huh. That's... interesting stuff. It's not powered by mana, but by life (so it tires you out to use, sort of). And then spells tend to be disproportionately powerful. It's strong stuff. It also comes easier to those who can use it than regular magic. Art talked about mastering spells in years- the last person we knew who studied sage magic picked it up in days.

He wants to pass on the legacy of his people, and it could be pretty useful. You should probably take him up on it, but the other guardians have the right idea. We can't exactly afford to dwaddle. Move and learn, if you can.

Umm. Hey, not sure if future stuff warnings matter anymore... but last time? Regulus knew the last Oli. Of course, that time, the last Oli was a different Oli, in a different mountain range, so there's a good chance that's not the same.

If we end up gone long enough for your friends to get worried about your absence, we could pass a note through the mimic bag, if you can find something to write with. (You could always improvise a charcoal stick to write with by burning something with the basic flame spell).

Also, it's good to see that she's resurrected herself already. That'll throw a wrench in Regulus's plans. Anyway Regulus will probably try to kill them so fair warning! Also, we could use some help in resurrecting Ombra. Like, if they can direct us to someone to teach you Soul Magic that'd be great.

Also if they have any ideas on how to get the earth dragon out of Regulus without killing him that'd be super great.

And um. No offense, but you guys don't exactly look like the toughest dragons.

Well, Masil could restore your tail for you, if you asked. That would kind of permanently blow your cover though, and you'd kind of have to learn to walk and fight again, which you can't really afford.

You might want to ask Masil if she has advice for Ombra getting back to herself, since she already pulled off the coming back to life after riding around in a host trick. Although she had the decency to ask first.

I'd like to throw my two copper in here too. Restoring her tail would make it obvious that she's part catfolk, yes, but at this point I kinda doubt she'd get kicked out of the knights. Forget the tail, there are more important things to worry about.

Basically we're here not because of a present emergency but because there are all kinds of problems that need fixing including dragons that need to be brought back from the dead. Exchanging important information and getting advice on what to do next is also important.

I'd rather not spent all our GP on letting the fairy out now, if you don't mind. She's perfectly capable of communicating with them if she really wants to, and I'd prefer to not to be devoid of power if Regulus decides to attack three dragons in one place.

...not that I'm sure we could stop him even if he did show up at this point. But useless arcane power is vastly preferable to no arcane power.

>If Sage magic does all what I remember it doing, she can get the tail back on her own easily.
Healing broken bones and/or otherwise fatal injuries is one thing. Takes a good deal of power, but you're putting back together pieces that are already there.

Restoring something that's been lost is rather different- that involves creation, or prompting something to grow that normally does not. I think that kind of power is beyond what sage magic can do.

It's -possible- nya. But not easy. For those like Thasti it would require some serious magic. We need to pull their souls back from wherever they are in the cycle and I'm afraid even I'm not able to do that nya. The one who has the most control over the cycle is... You, Ombra.

What?

Mhmm. If you were in your full form you could possibly pull him out of the cycle. It's most connected to your people. There might be another way but... I don't know about it nya.

Also we're not sure if there's any way to bring back Myli as he is. Your best bet is having him possess someone who's a relative of the man who's trying to kill us.

"I don't think he has any."

Then as far as I know there is little you can do... I'm sorry we are not as much help as you would have hoped

"It's fine. You guys gave me answers and that's good. Oh, I have a few more questions."

Hmm?

"Do either of you guys know of any Dark Elves that would be willing to teach me Soul Magic? I need to learn it to free Ombra."

Nyope. I don't really mingle with the Dark Elves. They're too serious.

I'm afraid I don't know of many myself. I stay here, in the lakes. They are a friendly race though. I'm certain you will not have much difficulty in finding a teacher.

Wait, I can get my tail back..?

"Masil. Can you give me my tail back?"

Nya? It's is within my power... What's in it for me, hmm?

"I'm helping out the dragons right now. Isn't that enough?"

Perhaps... Fine, you caught me in a good mood human. I will restore the tail.

Saisai feels a warm light fill her body. Her entire body begins to itch as it changes

Whoops... Too much Tigerfolk, nya.

This is the point where you say thank you, Saisai.

>tail
Well, you're going to have to get good at wrapping that around your waist, or around a leg or something if you want to keep up your pureblooded human act.

Although we'll have to see what the rules are when the knights reform. Maybe they won't care.

...you're also going to have to train, because you just completely threw off your sense of balance. You're going to have to almost learn how to walk again, like when you lost it. That means until you get the hang of your new body, you're going to be almost useless in a fight.

Good thing you have Oli-man to watch over you for a bit. And hey, if you can learn not to fall to your death in the mountains, you'll be good anywhere!

>We are aware of Regulus, can take on a chosen human.
...please be careful. He's crazy, but I think he has a plan. He thinks he has a way to pull this off. He didn't even think he needed the dragon slayer anymore!

>Other questions
Ask Masil if she has any advice for getting Ombra back in a body, because as far as we know, she was dead and doing the host thing a little while ago. She already successfully make a comeback.

What about the other chosen? There should be others out there, right? And they'd be just as strong as Regulus. Maybe if we could find them, we could convince them to help. (The tigerfolk king was Thasti's, right? I don't think we've met any others living).

>Do we have any way of getting a message back to our friends? We will be gone for longer than we thought and we wouldn't want them to get worried.
We have the mimic bag. We could pass notes back through to Yuyu, if we had anything to write with.

...not sure we're going to find paper in merfolk land, though.

>Regulus, no family
Yeah, he murdered his family to preemptively counter that tactic. ...I don't suppose there's a way around cheating that is there? You're the life dragon. We can't clone him up a relative, or bring one back from the dead?

I suppose there's the more traditional method of making relatives, but we don't exactly have nine months, or a way to get him in bed with anyone. That, and if we did, it would be much easier just to assassinate him.

"Well I was wondering if you had any advice for bringing back Ombra?"

Welll... The easiest way is to just let her take over your body and kill ya, nya. But I'm guessing that's not what you really want? I know this might come as a surprise but a while ago Regulus actually killed me, nya. I was able to come back to life with Myli's help. He's the one that specializes in creating new vessels for things. That's not an option either, nya. So your best bet is to master Soul Magic

"Well that was the plan anyway... Just checking if there were alternatives."

>>517899
That's not possible. And even if it were I would be against it.

"Huh?"

Oh, the Guardian was asking if we could change someone's body to see if they can be forced to be related to someone. It's not possible.

"Oh. I couldn't really hear them."

So, is there anything else you need?

Man, it's like they want me to go already.

"Actually there was one more thing I wanted to ask. Is the Dragon Shrine broken or something? I had meant to teleport to the Lakes but I ended up in the Hurrikane Mountain Range."

Is that so..? The odds of that happening are quite slim... I will have to check it out for myself... If it is I should have it repaired shortly. Oh, speaking of repairs, how does your new tail feel?

Saisai moves it back and forth, controlling it as easily as she would her own arm. She takes a step forward but nearly falls off balance trying

"I'm gonna need some work but it's good so far... Thanks, Masil. Also, I'm going to be staying in the mountain range for a while to sort of watch over you guys and get some training done. If anything happens just try and get a message to me and I'll be there."

Mhm. Oh, do you need a ride to your trainer, nya?

"That would be extremely helpful."

Hold on, nya. Riding dragonback is quite the trip...
-----------------------------------------------

Pretty crazy, huh?

"Yeah... That's for everything, Masil."

You're the one trying to save the Dragons. Consider it payment for your help.

Masil gives a quick nod, which is quite odd considering her form, and flies off

Define -related-

Whatever. Who am I to comment on creepy dragon sex? I have more important things to worry about. Like training.

It doesn't take long for Saisai to bump into Alcarin, it is almost like he knew where she was the moment she touched the stone.

>"Did all go well?"

"Yeah, the dragons are safe and I'm ready to train."

>"Good. We will start now. Come."

>>517986
Oh, right! Note sent. What kind of a knight would I be without a pad of paper and a quill?

Saisai follows Alcarin as they walk through the dense woods at the base of the mountains. Finally they come upon a pool hidden in the trees. She can feel heat coming from them and she can sees pillars of stone dotting the area with most of them surrounding a massive metal spike covered in moss.

"Woah.. What is this place? And what's with all the creepy stone things?"

>"Those are my people."

"What?"

>"When we die we turn into stone and we are born of the stone. They have chosen to simply pass on. These are their coffins. All that remains."

"Oh..."

Ffffffffffffffffffffffff- I just called his dead race weird...

"So uh... What are we doing here?"

He points to the metal slab

>"See?"

"Yeah... What is it?"

>"That is all that is left of Oraes, the Dragon of Metal and Technology. It is here that many of my race chose to pass and it is here that her power is the strongest. In this pond I am capable of amazing Sage Magic. I could even fully heal someone from the worst of injuries. It is here that you will awaken your Sage Magic. I think we should keep in mind that although the two living dragons are safe, your sister is still being hunted by Regulus. We do not have all the time in the world.

Screw it. As it is this thing is more embarrasing as it is than being naked would be.

Saisai takes off her wet top and tosses it where her other clothes are.

>"Hmm. Realize how silly it was? Now, focus."

As Saisai focuses her energy Alcarin places his hand on her bare back. He keeps it there for a moment before nodding

>"Still destruction but stronger. As though something powerful has awakened. Yes, this is good. Now that you can focus try and cast the spell. Here, say this."

He points to a place in the sky away from them.

>"Sorer ne tu cheram ombraes tandrolar eisryn."

Once the last syllable leaves his mouth a giant beam of pure destructive energy flies out of his fingertips. When the spell ends Saisai is left stunned and Alcarin seems a bit more tired.

>"Tiring, but powerful... You try."

"Right. Sorer ne tu cheram ombraes tandrolar eisryn!"

Nothing happens.

>"Hmm... Try again."

"Sorer ne tu cheram ombraes tandrolar eisryn!"

Still nothing.

>"Keep practicing."

For hours the two of them go over this spell. Even though there is no actual casting the spell still slowly takes it's toll on Saisai and by the fourth hour she's panting and leaning on the wall for support. At this point her nudity doesn't bother her, there's just a deep feeling of frustration and anger at not being able to cast what he says is a basic spell.

>"Saisai. It is late. You should stop."

Saisai, don't forget that sage magic uses life energy instead of mana. It's the energy you get from food, and use by moving around and by simply living. Look at how exhausted you are right now - if you try again and succeed you'll probably at the very least pass out, and if it uses too much you might even be weakened enough to die soon after casting it. Rest for the night, eat something, get to know Alcarin a bit better, and tomorrow what you learned from your practice today might have sunk in enough that you'll be able to quickly figure out how to focus your energy enough to succeed.

Wait. We made your energy stronger by tapping into Ombra. Maybe the problem is we're not taking that into account. Try it one more time, and then rest. Remember- this is training, and sage magic is directly fueled by life energy. Push yourself too hard and you could end up injured, same as if you pushed yourself past your limits physically. Discipline is something you learned teaching yourself the spear, was it not?

Hey Ombra, in this form your power is closer to the surface. Maybe it's not working because you're not telling or letting that power to do anything.

Try saying the words with her, this time.

Saisai wakes up some time later, alone and in a cave. She's dressed in clothes that aren't hers and laying in a surprisingly comfortable bed made out of some kind of cloth and soft stuffing.

Oh man. Did I black out?

You almost died you idiot! Again! Stop doing that!

I need to be more careful.
Still, I managed to get it in the end.

Where's Alcarin?

Are you seriously worried more about the Oli than the fact that you ALMOST DIED!? Remember, if you die I die!

That fire looks pretty well set up. They tend to die down if someone doesn't tend to them. I'd assume that means he was here an hour or less ago. I'd also assume he's not going to abandon a student in his care. He'll be back.

Uh. Yeah, this is probably a crush. That can happen when you hang out with gorgeous strong beautiful mysterious older people who are nice to you and protect you and casually not overfond of clothes.

Problem is I don't think he's terribly interested. I mean, he's like millennia old, and you're kind of his retirement project, passing on his art before he goes. There's a good chance your interest will be unrequited.

...of course disinterest usually just makes you crush harder.

Eh, maybe you'll luck out. Mentor mentee relationships can be a thing. Worst thing that could happen is you embarrass yourself a little, which you kind of do around him anyways.

When you're a god there's very little that bothers you. Now most things that others would consider problems just amuse me. Except my death. That's not as funny. Seriously though I think she should go for it. Human lives are so fleeting, why not enjoy all it has to offer?

>Oli courtship
How the hell should we know? Or anyone, for that matter. The only way to approach it is to figure him out yourself. But don't be surprised if he's fairly dense to your advances, and then suddenly asks "do you wish to mate" or similar. He seems the type.

Anyhow, from the sounds of things Oli just turn into rocks when they're done with living. Not the same as being dead. Maybe they can even come back later. Let's look into that, might be a good project for him to stick around for.

Sorry, we don't have any information about Oli courtship. The Oli girl we met last time got angry at us because she was friends with Regulus. And other things.

>Anyhow, from the sounds of things Oli just turn into rocks when they're done with living. Not the same as being dead. Maybe they can even come back later. Let's look into that, might be a good project for him to stick around for.

Hmm... I'll need to ask him about this.

Saisai hears someone moving outside the cave.

Maybe that's him...

She gets up and makes her way to the entrance. Her steps are unsteady due to her fatigue and new tail but she manages to make it out the cave. There she sees Alcarin sitting by the edge of the cliff.

>"Saisai. You are awake."

"Yeah. Thanks for carrying me and stuff..."

>"Do not thank. You would have died if I did not help. Next time I say stop, I mean stop."

"Ah. Sorry."

>"It is fine. Now you know."

She sits down beside him

"You're not tired?"

>"My people do not sleep much. 4 hours, at most."

"Wow. So I guess you have a lot of time on your hands every day."

He nods.

"So... What do you like to do when you're not training me?"

>"I hunt. I climb. I visit the graves of my people. I live a simple life here."

"Have any hobbies?"

He shakes his head.

"Right. I would imagine there's nothing much to do up here."

>"Yes. But you are here now, so my day has purpose. Teaching you has made my day better."

>Tell him you enjoy being around him

"I uh... Enjoy you teaching me. And being around you."

Another nod

"So uhm... Mind if I ask you a few questions about your people? There's not a lot we know about them."

>"Ask."

"When you guys die you turn to stone, right?"

>"Yes."

"Is it possible to come out of the stone? Be reborn?"

>"Very. I have done so many times. We are immortal unless we wish to move on. Many of my people have moved on. And those that have not no longer answer when I reach to them."

"Are you planning on... Moving on?"

>"No. Not yet. I must teach you. Then I must teach Curses. And then Healing. I will be here for many more years. When you are gone, I will still be here. Perhaps until the time of your great great grandchildren. I can not allow Sage Magic to die."

"Okay. I was worried you were going to teach me and then kinda just... Off yourself."

>"No. Not for some time."

"Cool. So... Mind if I ask a few more questions?"

>"I do not mind."

Ask him if his horn is edible.

What?

"Is your horn edible?"

>"Yes. Some say it tastes like candy. People would sometimes break them off and steal them. They grow back though. Still, we hid them from then on."

"Oh that's cool. So howdoOlicourteachother."

>"... Excuse me?"

"Oh I was just you know curious about how Oli like you know, let another Oli know they're interested in them. Just cause you know no one really knows about you guys and I would like to be able to tell others how you guys worked there's really no books on you guys so it's all a mystery and I think people would like to know."

>"Ah. Courtship is simple between the Oli. We breed very slowly, our women would give birth once a century and the community would raise the child. Unlike humans there is no need to form strong families. We simply tell the one we are interested in that we would like to be their mate and that is that. Relationships vary. I have seen some last an hour and others last decades."

"So you would just tell that person you liked them?"

Bet you she'll do that stupid thing where she pretends to stretch just to show off her boobs.

Masil yawns and stretches.

"Nya~. So what brings you here?"

Called it. We've been playing this stupid game for centuries. She just doesn't get the hint. She just thinks 'everyone' is interested in her. Well not me. Except right now. But that's just because she knows things I don't.

"So how did you come back to life exactly?"

>"Hehehe. I had Myli's help. The two of us worked together to restore my body and place my soul within it. Shame he's dead now, he might have been able to help ya, nya. And wasn't he the Human King? Man, he was so close. If only you'd asked him~"

God she's so fucking annoying, even when giving advice.

"So what can I do then?"

>"Like I'd said you need to work with your host, nya. The two of you work on her Soul Magic and once she gets it all you'll be revived nya. Simple really."

"Yeah well she's not the sharpest sword on the rack..."

>"Just work with her nya. My host and I worked hard on Alchemy. He didn't get it but at least he tried."

"It just won't work. She can't do magic and I'm worried she's gonna die before she can learn it all. If she does I do, you know that right?"

>"I'm aware, nya. But as it stands your only option is to work with her nya."

"I could just kill her and take over her body."

>"That has some downsides..."

"What? Like?"

>"The bodies we made for our people are not meant to hold souls like our own. If we tried to force it there's a chance the body could reject it. And even if it did accept it our souls are just too powerful. We would have to rest most of the day just to keep the body from burning out. It's probably the worst method of coming back to life."

".... I didn't know that."

>"Well you're not the Dragon of Life and Light~. The Dragon of Darkness and Souls can't possibly know all that I do~ Is there anything else you need to know? Please, ask. I would love to share some of my VAST knowledge with you, Ombra."

ask her if she has any other advice that she thinks will help. and by advice I mean things that will help you come back to the land of the living bring back Thasti, and/or help us stop what's his name before he can slay the rest of the dragons. If not then lets go screw with some mer folks for a bit.

Ask her why you don't seem to remember how Oraes died, according to Sharaes' reaction.

'cause yeah, that's pretty weird.

>could have asked Myli
Well yes, help might have been nice. Unfortunately, he was kind of too close to Regulus and all the evil plotting for us to tell if he was actually trustworthy until it was too late. And while his help would have been good, his interference or aggression would have been disastrous.

>body snatching bad
Well whataya know, there are concrete advantages to playing nice.

Besides, you know, not murdering a girl you've found yourself growing somewhat fond of, or taking her away from all her friends you sort of like and don't want hating you.

>darkness and souls v light and life
>vast knowledge
...well, some of what you know should overlap what she knows, or at least be complimentary. Life needs souls, and souls are attacked to life. Light and darkness are opposite sides of the same coin. Which means there's a place where your understandings overlap, and a place where you each know more about your side than the other.

She understands this coming back stuff from a life perspective. What about from a soul perspective?

So we have advice on bringing us back, what about the others? Supposedly you have the ability to pull the souls back out of the cycle or whatever but we have no idea how to do that really. So advice on the details of bringing back the dragons is needed. They'll need bodies to start with. And if any of the dragons need something special to come back we'll need advice there too. I seem to remember Oraes being a special case at least.

"So how exactly do I pull back souls from the cycle? That's my domain so do I just... Will it to happen?"

>"Never flexed your Soul Magic muscle?"

"Never had any reason to."

>"Tsk tsk, sister. It's quite simple once you get the hang of it. It's like your shadow powers. Just make it happen and it will. Though I doubt it'll work in your current form, nya."

"Right. Another thing. Do you really have to say 'nya'? You're not really a Catfolk."

>"I only do it cause it bothers you~ Nyaaa~"

"I hate you so much. So what else do I need to do to bring back the other dragons?"

>"Well if you have their soul they need a body, nya. Any will do but if you can restore their original one that's even better. For people like me, Thasti, and Aeryr that's a bit difficult since we're made out of our elements but for Myli, Sharaes, Oraes, and yourself that is easier. Just find a piece of the body and do some really crazy healing magic. I could possibly restore it, if I felt so inclined. Nya."

"If the time comes I'm going to ask you for your help and you better do it."

>"Or what~?"

"I... Haven't decided yet. So what about for Thasti?"

>"Dunno."

"Right. I'm sure there has to be a way..."

>>528669
"Hey, speaking of dead dragons what the hell happened to Oraes? I can't remember."

>"Oh? Well that's good. You killed her, nya."

"What..? Why would I kill Oraes? Sure we didn't get along perfectly but I didn't -dislike- her."

>"You and Aeryr decided to kill her. Got jealous of her having ALL the other races but the ones the other dragons had."

"... That doesn't sound like me."

>"Well I maaaaaay have nudged you along a bit~ Girl was so damn annoying."

"YOU WHAT!?"

>"Hey, you thought she was too powerful too. So did Aeryr. I just helped you guys along. Oh and also made it so you can't remember. Being the Dragon of Life is so great~ You won't even remember this conversation. I swear, we've had this talk like dozens of times already."

"I'm not going to forget this! YOU HAD ME KILL MY FRIEND! THE DRAGON OF THE OLI!"

>"Hey, isn't there one up in the mountain still?"

"I-! ..... Yeah. He's training with Saisai right now. Actually that's all we need to take care of before we can go see the Dark Elves. Then I'm coming back to life and you'll help me bring back the others."

>"I'll think about it~ So, wanna join me for a catnap~?"

"Never. Goodbye."

>"See you around~"

Talking to some Merfolk sounds nice. Honestly, I get a headache whenever I talk to Masil.

Ombra flies away from the cave. Unlike the Kingdom of Central the lakes are completely devoid of any magical or mechanical lights at night, with only the moon and the stars shining on the Merfolk's home. It's quite the sight.
Ombra lands by one of the lakes and whistles.
Years of talking to Sharaes has taught her some of the more basic Merfolk songs. The one she was singing meant 'Friend'.
Soon enough a Merfolk child pokes their head out from under the water.

>"Hey there! Are you a fairy?"

........
Them to?

Oh, yeah, Masil revealed she 'nudged' you and Aeryr into killing Oraes. Something about Oraes being annoying and too powerful. She said she was going to erase your memory of the conversation--apparently this isn't the first time she's told you about that.

Hey. Ombra. Masil's blocking some of your memories. You're gonna want to find out how to fix that eventually and prevent her from doing it again. Just an FYI. Might want to do that for all the other dragons too, because she's probably blocking some of their memories as well.

As for the merfolk, uh, tell her this is just a form you're stuck in and you're actually Ombra. Maybe you can learn a more advanced merfolk song? It's worth spending some time to do that, since we don't have much else to do.
>>
No. 529842 ID: 9ddf68

just tell him/her not to call you cute. Oh and those headaches you get from talking to Masil are from her erasing/suppressing certain memories as well as her being a real pain to talk to. Like how she tricked you into killing Oraes cause she thought she was a bitch.

"Do you not know? I AM THE GREAT AND POWERF-ah, forget it. It's not worth it."

Ombra just floats down and sits by the edge of the lake and dips her feet into the water.

It's not like anyone but the Dark Elves knew about me nowadays anyway.

"I'm just a fairy. So, what's your name?"

>"Arana."

"Arana. I'm Ombra."

>"Nice to meetcha Miss Ombra."

"Same."

The Merfolk smiles at her and hums the song of Friendship. It hums half of it and Ombra smiles a bit and hums the other half.

>"Now we're friends!"

"Yep."

>>529842
>>529833
She did WHAT!? Why

Songs could be useful. I'm actually quite the singer if I do say so myself.

"Hey, do you know any like healing songs?"

>"Mhmm! Wanna hear?"

"Please. I want to learn it."

The Merfolk and Ombra spend the next hour going over the Song of Healing. It's fairly complex but soon Ombra is able to sing it as well as any other Merfolk

>"Wow! I've never seen anyone who's not a Merfolk get it that fast! You're amzaing Miss Ombra!"

"Haha yeah, I know I am."

>"I gotta go back to sleep. Goonight Miss Ombra."

"Night, kid."

The Merfolk whistles the Song of Friendship and waits for Ombra to finish it before going back into the lake.

Well that might be useful later on. The Song of Healing is pretty powerful against illnesses.
...

You know I'd spent like 17 years inside you guys, right? The Guardian, I mean. I thought I was gonna go crazy in there. It's cold and there was no one to talk to. Nothing to see but the darkness of the box I was in. The past few weeks have actually been pretty fun for me.
And like... Not just because I've spent so long trapped away. I mean this is the most I've done in centuries.
After the big fight between us Dragons I kinda just... Didn't do anything. Even that bitch Masil has more of a life than I do.
And you guys said you're from an alternate timeline and so far all I've heard about myself is that I tried to kill my other host. I'm guessing I've done 'nothing' other than that that's actually of note.
God, since when have the Dragons been less interesting than the people we created.
It's only now that I don't have unlimited power that I realize just how boring it was.

Bleh. What the hell am I saying all of this to you for. It's not like any of it matters. Saisai will learn Soul Magic, I'll leave, and everything will go back to normal.
>>
No. 529846 ID: bf54a8

but now that you know what it's like yo wont be able to go back to being bored all the time. you could involve yourself with the people's lives. myli was the king of the humans, and while she is a jerk, masil sometimes grants wishes. i am sure there is something you could do.

Hmm. Ombra, do you know any way to restore locked-away memories?

As for your future, you don't have to just go back to doing nothing. You can resurrect Oraes, and hang out with her again. Maybe take on a body and wander around having adventures.
>>
No. 529848 ID: 9ddf68

you know no one says you have to go back to doing nothing, you could travel, involve yourself more with your people, use your powers to just generally fuck with people for shits and giggles. you know something other then sit in a cave all day and brood. Hell maybe even get laid. I mean even Saisai is getting more action then you have lately and by lately I mean within the last century... unless there's someone you wouldn't mind telling us about.
>>
No. 529862 ID: cf8f63

Hrrrm. Well. Alternate you had a job of guarding a vault with this item called the goldeon watch in it then, but you sound like you used to drown in your indolent slothfulness. To be fair, infinite shadow powers or whatnot probably kinda helps that out a bit! Why go somewhere when you can teleport whatever you want to you? Or something like that.
As far as how to break that? Hrm. Well, you could be more involved with your dark elves this time, as opposed to...whatever you used to do.
>>
No. 529877 ID: c95833

> all I've heard about myself is that I tried to kill my other host.
Well, yes, you did. Other-you was a lot more stubborn on that front. Took... days, if not weeks to get you to warm up.

You did some other stuff too, though! You were the guardian of a powerful artifact before you died. You got your host to strongarm Masil into resurrecting Oraes. You helped a dark elf get through this freaky shadow monster mind-game manifestation puberty thing.

And it's not like you-you haven't done anything. Look at what a difference you made to crazy! A robot with a dragon-fairy friend. There's something new.

You do realize that once you get your body back, you can do whatever you want, right? There's no reason you can't assume a human (dark elf, whatever) form and live things up a little. I mean, you can even bother or impose on Saisai and there's not much she could do about it. Heck, maybe you can even gnab us and go on an adventure of your own this time! (You've been stuck with us long enough you gotta count as family).

>Also
...we're pretty sure your memory is skipping over something. We'd tell you what, but every time we do, you forget again.

So let's just say you've forgotten something. You know about anything that restores or protects memories?

You have memories of when you were alive, therefore your soul has some form of memory retention. Perhaps you can use soul magic to protect that aspect of your memory from being touched next time Masil does something bitchy with your physical mind?

... come to think of it.. if Masil's capable of affecting you with her life powers without being noticed, could she have done something to Saisai?
Like, say, prod certain emotion-effecting organs to make her want to jump the bones of the first guy she had any interest in? I know we sorta talked her into it but the foundation was there.

Remember, Masil has done worse just to be a pain in the ass. Saisai may need another checkup once she's calmed down.

Har har. No there's no one I've been interested in. I'm a Dragon. Why would I have any sort of attraction to any of the other races? Sure Masil, Myli, and Sharaes might but I'm not like them. Me, Aeryr, and Thasti have chosen to remain celibate. Like how Dragons are supposed to. Though I think for Thasti it was more of a 'Can't not want to murder something long enough to have sex' sort of thing.

>>529877
Hmm... Going on adventures would be nice. Change of pace from what my life normally was. I'll consider that.
For now though...
I think I just want to relax here by the lakes for as long as I can.
It's peaceful out here.
