Spikesby Biteface has been traveling across the Radiant Plains to bring a gift from Xix Ryxix to Lady Radia the Glorious.

Along the way, he rescued a Golden named Glory and decided to bring her to a nearby village because if he brings her to Radia's tower, she'll surely be killed.

The village gate seems to be slightly damaged, and an eerie silence hangs heavily in the air.

Spikesby cautiously enters. It might be best to leave Glory outside, but she stays extremely close to him, seeming somewhat frightened.

The huts are made of clay, and don't seem particularly damaged. Some doors are slightly ajar and others are closed fast, and some larger building dominates the horizon. It has a gaping hole in the roof.

What should Spikesby inspect? Glory doesn't seem at all sure that this would be a safe place to leave her.

Spikesby peeks cautiously inside. The smell.. is horrid it stinks of blood and rotting flesh.

There are dead Gour, probably twenty at least, lying dead in heaps. Even the little children...

Spikesby has no idea what is going on here.He doesn't know if he wants to know. There are several guns lying on the ground, near outstretched, open hands.

Glory is pressing at his back, asking him what he sees inside.

W.. what should Spikesby do?

Spikesby indicates to Glory that it's something bad that she doesn't want to see.

He decides to poke his head in another hut as he makes his way to be big building with the broken roof.

This one has no corpses at all. He looks in a few others and all are completely empty.

He does see one with three wooden boxes in it, though.

Spikesby isn't sure what a mimic is.

He opens all three chests. Two have food and water in them, but the third is full of shiny objects.

>7 out of 7 GOLDEN AMULETS OF GELRUD FOUND
>23 out of 23 RINGS OF FREDRICKSON FOUND
>1 out of 1 SCEPTERS OF HELDERSON FOUND

Spikesby doesn't see what any of this stuff is good for, but Glory seems rather impressed.

She's fairly distracted. Should Spikesby take her with him to the building with the broken roof, or leave her here?

Spikesby decides to keep Glory with him, and she takes all of the items from the box.

He realizes that by virtue of being deep inside Radia's territory, if he ditches Glory for good, she's definitely dead. However, he does need to store her somewhere before he continues on to Radia's tower.

He approaches the building with the broken roof. They look up and the looming structure.

Spikesby waves.

The thing replies:

THINGS IS WEEZRARD THINGS? IS WHY SMELLING OF COLD? OVRIUR IS THE STAYING THING FOR DIGESTING."

What? Well, it seems like it won't do anything to Spikesby or Glory anyway.

Glory whispers to Spikesby.
>>"So... that's why there aren't any corpses here. It... disintigrated everyone. I... what is it, Spikesby? I... it's more like it makes me feel kinda like the air is too thin. What should we do?"

Most likely adept like beings surviving the wizard war far below surface, not sure on the location. And now they want to know if there are wizards or anything alive here anymore or something.

Wizards are still here. Point to the tower. One is over there if you want to see. Is warm home under ground? How long will you digest?

Spikesby posits that maybe it's a magical creature or something similar to an Adept, but this seems somehow wrong, even to him.

Glory advises in the affirmative.
>>"No, no. It doesn't smell at all like a magical creature or an adept. It smells almost exactly like the opposite of that."

Spikesby feels the "hard to breathe" feeling as well. He can breathe fine, but there is some tightness in his chest, like some essential quality of the world is absent near this creature.

The war though...

Spikesby points in the direction of Radia's tower and indicates its nature. Glory asks if it is warm under the ground and how long the creature will digest for. She also asks what it has found so far, what its people are called, and what it has found so far.

>>"WHAT IS UNDER GROUND? IS NOT FOR THIS. THIS COMES TO COLD LAND FROM WARM HOME TO EAST. WILL DIGEST UNTIL ALL IS GONE AND THEN WILL GO AND FIND TO BE THE EXPLORING. WE ARE DREAMS OF SHADOW. WALK THROUGH LAND OF SWAMP WITH NO FOODS TO EAT AND STARVES IN COLD LAND. TWO THINGS SMEEL OF SO COLD IS HARD TO KEEP TO THE TALKING OF THINGS SMEEL SO STRONG OF COLD. OVRIUR REST NOW THANKS THINGS OF COLD HELPING TO EXPLORE."

It retreats back into the building. Spikesby thinks. If he remembers anything about geography, and he doesn't know much, he thinks that straight east of here is Childless Meg's swamp. East of that is the Sea of Oblivion. Nothing comes out of there, though, and nothing goes in. it swallowed the entire world except for the little bit that everyone lives on now during the wizard's war. Master Blacksoul is always researching in his lab, trying to find a way to push the wall of shadows that delineates its border back.

The feelings of breathlessness and disorientation go away as soon as the monster retreats. What should Spikesby do?

The Sea of Oblivion may be a 'sea' of antimagic, and this 'creature' is some thing that lives and thrives in it.
Or maybe it was once a normal creature, turned by the antimagic into... that.

Perhaps, being creatures that have strong ties to magic, Spikesby and Glory feel uncomfortable around it because it is basically the exact opposite of everything they've ever known?

Does this seem logical to Spikesby or Glory at all?

Spikesby assures Glory as best he can that he'll be back for her in a few days.

Spikesby hurries toward Radia's tower, although it will take him quite some time to reach it.

He has a lot to think about. He knows that Glory is dead on her own. Only his circuitous route allowed him to avoid contact until he reached the village, and Suri is clear across Radia's land from the place where he left Glory.

Then there is the creature, the Dream of Shadows. If it came from the Sea of Oblivion, then who knows what it is or what it can do. It seemed antithetical to him, alien and strange. Hopefully Radia will be willing to listen and can lend him a hand.

Along the way, he rescued a Golden named Glory, and left her behind in a town devoid of life except for a strange and frightening monster that calls itself a Dream of Shadows.

Spikesby approaches the mountain. It is composed of sharp ridges of glass, but his magically tough skin will prevent any injury to him.

There is a Gour here, covered in bleeding wounds, and another one of those creatures from before.

The Gour is talking to himself, seemingly unaware of the presence of either Spikesby or the creature.

>"I will make my way to you, your Gloriusness! I feel it in my heart..."

The creature, Spikesby thinks Glory called it a Nemesis, addresses Spikesby.

The Nemesis looks at him with a grin.

While he's deciding on whether or not to tell Radia about the town, the Blockhead petitioner finally makes its way inside.

>"Oh, Beautiful Radia! I've made it to you!"

Radia looks down at the Blockhead

>"Little snicklet, do you think this creature is worth of my presence?"

>"It is as worthy as the world it comes from, and it is trying its hardest for you, doesn't that mean anything?

>I would be glad to carry it away for you? Of course, I do not presume to know what is worthy of your magnificence."

Radia smiles.

>"Worthy as the world it comes from? Really? And it has tried hard, hasn't it? Maybe I should reward it, for doing so well. Maybe give it a gentle touch, perhaps a kiss? Do you think it deserves my touch? The faintest feather fall of my lips? Do you, little sniktlet?"

Don't tell her about the town. She'll find out sooner or later anyway, and it's not part of your duty to inform her. Later is better, so that you can get Glory out of there before she sends anyone. Also she might try to kill the Shadow, which seems wrong somehow. It wasn't hostile, after all.

As for the Blockhead, I don't think it did well enough to deserve such a high reward as a kiss. Perhaps something lesser.

Spikesby says that the Blockhead certainly wants the kiss, but probably doesn't deserve it. Maybe a gentle touch though.

Radia lifts the Blockhead up and purses her lips. Golden light streams from her face, and it writhes in pain as its flesh begins to smoke and blister.

She brings it closer to her face and the skin and tissue peel back and evaporate as it thrashes and screams. Its innards fall to the floor with a sickening thud as it's body melts away.

Radia smiles.

>"I suppose it wansn't worthy after all. So, you'll be taking my letter to Flails Breaker, then?"

Spikesby is rather horrified by these goings on. Is there something he could have said differently? Radia's the one who made it come here in the first place, after all, made it lacerate itself for days as it crawled toward her.

He decides not to tell her about the Dream of Shadows. He's worried about Glory, and besides, even though it killed an entire town's worth of of innocent people, it wasn't mean to him.

Spikesby finds he is unable to move.

Radia leans down and manually opens Spikesby's mouth, she rather uncomfortably inserts a small wooden box. Spikesby is still unable to move.

>"I am grievously offended, you stupid animal, because you would even consider thinking that any trash deserves to come into my tower. I was going to let your comment slide because you are certainly ignorant, but I feel that now I must teach you manners. Spikesby apologizes and tells her that her sheer beauty filled him with jealousy and drove him to confusion, but now he sees the error of his ways.

He considers giving her a backhanded compliment, then decides that this would be a terrible idea.

Spikesby doesn't hear voices or anything, though, so he decides not to mention this.

Radia leans down over him, but he doesn't feel any incinerating heat.

>"I can see how that could confuse you, but you must always be aware of the situation as it stands, and respond appropriately. I am beautiful, and you should have instantly recognized this and never allowed such a filthy creature near me. One eye betrayed you, but the other saw the truth. I will remove the offending organ."

Her finger jabs through the delicate jelly of Spikesby's eye, and he cannot scream even though the pain is intense. He feels the organ rupture and split as her finger hooks inside of the socket, drawing the gooey mass of ocular jelly and blood out of his head.

He feels himself growing weak from the pain.

His mind is in turmoil, and his body is in pain. The days of travel have been painful and slow, but he has finally reached the abandoned village where he left the Golden named Glory, who he rescued earlier.

He is covered in his own blood as well as the blood of innocent creatures, and he feels responsible for their death. The cruely of Radia pulses like a wound in his mind, and He can feel the throbbing hole where his eye once was. He can only hope that Glory is OK.

There is a golden, sitting on some kind of Blockhead halfling.

Can you use the dead ophian/snikt abomination to improve yourself any, or can only your master improve you properly? Would you even want to due to snikt ethics?

Perhaps give a moment to mourn the fate of the fellow snikt that got merged into that thing.

I've been hunting that Golden down for weeks. To think, I'd find that Snikt here... Lucky! Lucky! He offends the heavens so deeply and yet it is he who allows me to move against Ashleigh and his minions. Ashleigh has been shot several times. I know I did not miss, however, he's abandoned his last creature and run off into the woods.

Destroying the Nemesis halfling was quite taxing, I don't know how much more magic I can do. There is the abandoned minion there. The snikt is somewhere to my left, and I am not sure where the female Golden that was with him ran off to. Confusion! How, exactly, should I proceed?

I approach cautiously. Ashleigh, vile creature that he is, has disappeared into the trees. He fears me. He knows I will destroy him.

His creature has been left here, perhaps as some kind of guard.

I feel its heartbeat, and my fingers twitch.

It blows bubbles at me. I believe it to be the combination of a Blockhead and a Ravian. Pitiful monstrosity. I will destroy Ashleigh for making such a creature.

There is no need to waste a bullet. I choke the thing. Its grating squeal is soon silenced. But my doom drives me forward, and it will sweep away my enemies before I am consumed. Perhaps I should see to the snikt. And that other Golden. I should do something about her as well. I saw her run, and I can tell that the snikt is not bound. He acted without her commands and seemed to be trying to communicate with her. An enemy or a friend, I do not know.

The hoofprints suddenly end, but there are a multitude of tracks here. These look like tracks from Stabtail Snikts, at least three or four individuals. The only one who has Stabtails is Ryxix. They shouldn't be anywhere near here.

Spikesby has a really bad feeling about this. There is no way he can fight that many of them.

Spikesby is afraid of what would happen to Glory if she came with him! He can't just believe something because he wants to. He seems incapable of moving that direction anyway. He isn't sure if he'd be able to go that way or not if he really did think it would help him complete the task faster.

Instead, Spikesby leaves the immediate area as quickly as possible and decides to head on toward Flails Breaker's castle.

He travels for several days, encountering no Snikts, or anything else for that matter. Flails Breaker's castle is perched atop a high, crumbling cliff overlooking the vast western ocean. Lightning splits the sky and rain pours down in heavy sheets as Spikesby stands at the edge of the canopy. A figure appears to be standing on the stone bridge leading up to the castle's gaping mouth, but Spikesby can't make it out clearly.

You seriously do not want to be here when Breaker is gone."

We will still need to deliver the letter eventually, and if the bridge guard sees us try to cross again from the side we came from he will get suspicious. We have to either wait just outside the castle, or fly entirely out then fly entirely in again.

Can she fly us behind the castle or somewhere out of sight so we don't get spotted, and will be safe until Breaker gets back? Then we can just walk back in again. She can meet us again when we leave, past the bridge.

Spikesby isn't too worried about burning to death. His skin is tough and he's resistant to heat.

He makes it out of the burning forest without too much trouble, and doesn't think Flails Breaker followed him or anything.

He's got a lot to think about. First, Flails Breaker didn't give him a task, so he's currently got nowhere he has to go, second, as far as he knows Blacksoul is still aware of his presence and all, he still belongs to Blacksoul, but now, things are different. Spikesby feels different.

Ash drifts down around him as the raging inferno lights up the starless night.

There is a gentle flutter of wings.

Provoking the wizards into starting up the war again would probably be BAD END. And killing just one of them ourselves, if we could even find a way, would probably end the same way.
We need to somehow get them all to quietly assassinate each other at exactly the same time.
