very well! my first attempt here, pleased to meet you all, for this first experience, I'll offer four different characters, you guys get to pick who the star of the story will be, there IS a certain D&D-esque bias here, but with no particular edition in mind, at the end of this, I'll provide a finished concept of the character and begin the quest right away!

mind you, these are my sugestions and they are left intentionally vague, species can be adjusted (so, rodent can vary from a mice to a chinchilla, canine from a chihuahua to a wolf, ungulate from a sheep to a goat, feline from housecat to panther etc etc, the main skills won't vary a whole lot)

without further addition, here are the four base options for main character and a dash of their motivation!

-----------
rodent comes from a small village, primarly populated by hervibores, peaceful and quiet until recenly some of the inhabitants started becoming crazy, she hears word of an evil haunting the nearby mountain and decides to go and investigate to put an end to the problem

canine is a trainee bounty hunter, she was hired by the village to further investigate the strange mountain, her guild promised a very important position if she succeeds and with it brings prestige to their house

ewe comes from a distant land, searching for a beloved one that is said to have been kidnapped and taken to the mountains, she has experience dealing with drunk brawlers at the bar, so she has little to fear in this expedition

gold? did anyone said jewels? all those stories of disapearing adventurers and monsters lurking in the mountain can only mean one thing, Loot, lots and lots of it, where there's death, there's sure to be piles of goodies just waiting to be snatched! come on feline, this is your chance to make it big in life!

Rodent model: Capybara named Lydia. Or a rat if capybara is too much.

Feline because shinies and loot. Somali cat type.
>>
No. 557640 ID: 2ef3a6

haha, the Capybara seems like a quirky option, I don't know if I could do the species justice but If rodent gets picked, that's the species that I'll go with!

so far the poll seems balanced though

okay! poll goes good, sheep lady goes without a change, as of now, there's two votes for rodent, two for feline and two for sheep, so miss little bitch gets discarded I guess!

(further experimenting capybara look, interesting little (huge) critters)
>>
No. 557649 ID: 62ef6e

We need a raccoon or squirrel.
>>
No. 557652 ID: db9156

stat-wise, the raccoon would kinda take on the canine template, and I could consider the squirrel on the rodent-ish template, both are fun species to draw, so I'm fine with having these on, but so far, voting leans towards the sheep! while this goes on, I'm going to start with the picking of 'class/job' to speed things up~

SQUIRREL YES
>>

557659

okay so poll goes
Sheep 3
cat 2
mouse/capybara 2
newcomer squirrel 2
(am I allowed a vote? haha)

while that goes on, here is the breakdown of classes, yes, they are heavily D&D based, but also I want to give enough freedom. think of this more of a 'how do I define the character's backstory and basic training' storydevice than a solid videogame 'choose your limitations' type of thing!

Classes:
Melee fighter
HP: 12
-can choose unarmed fighter or weapon specialist
-proficient with heavy armour (unarmed get defensive bonuses for no armour)
5d4x10 starting gold

Ranged fighter
Hp:8
-can choose stealthy sniper or jack of all trades
jack of all trades gets several actions per round
stealthy sniper can perform one shot kills
-proficient with medium armour (snipers get offensive bonuses for no armour)
4d4x10 starting gold

Divine caster
Hp:6
-can follow a deity or a force of nature
deities come in several aligmnents and grant miracles
nature comes with affinity to an element and offers supernatural traits
-proficient only with natural (wood, leather etc) weapons and armours
6d4x10 starting gold for deity followers, 2d4x10 starting gold for nature followers

Arcane caster
Hp:4
-can opt to be born with magic talent or to learn it from study
born magic users are fixed with the spells they know but can use them more often per day
learned magic users have as much magic as their book allows, but have less uses per day
-non proficient with weapons or armour, armour might hinder in their casting (5% chance of failure per additional armour)
3d4x10 starting gold, magic book with enough space for 8 spells

(no, there is no need for players to keep track of numbers or anything in a straightforward sense, but I'd like to have some numeric references in case it becomes too hard to make a choice and rely on the old dice to solve things without taking biased measures or making invincible marysues, for the most part I want this to be fully narrative based, but again, trying to keep things under control)

(also, if you could give me a roll of 4d6 along with your votes that'd be just dandy)

I'm not too sure if I like the capybara on the left, but rodents are underrepresented.
I DO like the idea of the SQUIRREL so I vote for that! Rodent all the way.

I'm going to vote for the rodent, because she's got plenty of character in that original pic if nothing else. Fiesty sort of girl, and being a hunter for her village would mean mostly a ranged fighter. I'll go for the JOAT option, just because being self-reliant fits the character background. Those questors who've been around for a while might remember Iesegip from Knight Blades.

as far as protection, she can afford:

Hide15gp
Scale50

bonus point for a good description if any

(remember to allocate 1/2 gold piece per day of rations and at the very least a 2gp backpack! she can't see in the dark, so lanterns cost 7gp or torches cost 1/100GP)

What does she have already, and what other things do they have for sale?

But if I had to guess:

Survival wise, we're going to need a backpack, enough food for a week, skins to carry water, flint and tinder, a billy can, plenty of clothing, bandages, lantern and oil, map and compass, half a dozen torches, ropes, a hatchet, tent, and anything else I forgot.

For combat, we'll need leather or hide armor, and a decent hammer (unless we already have one).

Finally, we're going to need some currency left over to keep in a pocket.
There may be tolls, and we might have to buy more food or supplies further in.
>>
No. 557721 ID: ca4118

Guess we're going with the sheep cleric. That's fine. How about a more sensible outfit for adventuring, though, considering this is someone who's going into danger. Leather vest and leg guards, at least. Guess she wouldn't wear boots what with the hooves.

Do ewes have horns?

This is what I get for forgetting to refresh a page.
Anyway, stuff:

1Backpack
1Tent
1Bedroll
1Blanket, winter
1Flint and steel
1small pot
1map
1Rope, hempen (12 ft.)
2Piton
1Waterskin
5Rations
2Torch
1Lantern, hooded
3Oil (1-pint flask)

For 26 gold, 37 copper.
That's a 26kg backpack (with the hammer). Very heavy, but we'll have to manage
Also, take hide armor for 15GP. That leaves us with 8 gold and change for anything else.

Besides that stuff, how much are hatchets, bandages and extra clothing?

557741

rolled 21 = 21

so, after a long trip looking for her master who was last seen going into the eastern marsh mountains, thankfully, along the way, Lina runs across a peaceful little town, early in the morning, she is greeted by several farmers and their kids, it doesn't takes long for her to stumble across a store where a friendly mouse is arranging her wares

after hearing the request, she informs that she lacks any kind of map but she is happy to provide with some paper, ink and a compass instead

there are indeed hachets, and extra outfits as well!

(just because I feel like gambling, on a result over 75, you get a discount

95-100 = 50%

... fine, but just because you are doing this for a good cause, it will be 41gold and 37copper, if you round it to 42gold I'll toss some second hand clothes that will go well with the hide armour

the hachets cost 5gold, in case you still want 'em

That sounds alright.

Lets not get the hatchet. I think it counts as a metal weapon, which is against our religion.

not really. metal is earth with the impurities removed by fire. if we were a water or air element then yeah would be total bummer.
