A tale in what remains of the world of Htobbura. In this island miles above the sea, a small area of habitable land is home to a stranger who is very strange. at all times, his mind can hear the dead, and all they do is give him advice. that's it, just advice, or, what they believe is advice.
He is almost alone in this world, or maybe he's not almost anything at all. It's barely a story.

The world almost ends in 72 hours. what is your advice?

[to give commands, say "My advice is" at the start of your post.]

My advise is to introduce yourself to us. We'll be able to give you better advice once we know who and what we have to work with, here.

I would also advise getting more knowledge on this end of the world, thing. How do you know it will end, and that it will occur in 72 hours? Do you know what kind of end this is? If it is unavoidable?

The Stranger that is strange's name is Donnie.
in 72 hours, the last know area of land will sink into the sea, the world will be an ocean.
in 72 hours, Donnie will die.

in the 1st hour, you investigate your surroundings, you notice that the landmass with the steaming mountain is shrinking, a piece of it collapses. you look up, the sun is dim in the sky. the land you are in, is a grassy square, with your melted house. there is a large gap between the grassy patch of land and the steaming mountain.

my advice is to try and find something that will let you build a boat or at least something that will let you get to the mountain, what do you have to work with?

if you can plug up the windows and door, and flip it upside down... your house may make a serviceable boat.

Donnie isn't super strong. The house is big, besides you are miles in the sky. You look inside, you just remembered you are building a robot friend, who is impatiently waiting for you to finish that leg. You waste the 2nd hour finishing her up. she is your "build whatever that isn't a boat or boat related thing" robot. Boats are stupid and don't exist, it's a myth. You ask her to build a bridge, she says it will be done in an hour.

70 hours remain...

The robot, which named herself Einnob, strange name for a strange stranger's robot, built the bridge out of buried trees. She is good at digging, it seems this grassing area is actually the top of a bunch of trees mangled together to make it look like a square of grass on a hanging cliff, it's just covered in a skin of hard rock, for whatever reason.

The robot said that at the price of time this world has left, it can build anything that doesn't move. This robot wasn't actually built by Donnie, more like, rebuilt, you found pieces of her all over the house, you spend more time looking for things than building anyway.

You can now enter Steaming Mountain: Patch of dust

No one has time for this nonsense about vehicles. they don't exist, not even ones that move through time, especially.
you pomf the ghost.
Einnob looks at you waiting for an order, you ask her to make a mine.
she does this, she finds another robot while digging, it's small, not worth the time to name. It says there are many robots, but they all can only do one task once ordered.
Donnie orders the time robot to dig for stone and metals, and if you find another robot, command it to dig.

you now have one automated mine. 1 hour is spent. 69 hours remain.

you watch as your slowly growing army of robots begin to dig a path to the summit, finding more buried robots. when getting near the 1st peak, it suddenly erupts in fury. it blast molten ores onto the path. the mount seems to calm itself when no one is near it, there seems to be a point where the mountain actually reacts to how close you get, intresting.

68 hours remain.

We don't have time for making lava proof shields for our growing army of tiny robots and their hot robot queen.

you say outloud, Einnob starts strutting around when she walks now, good job.

you quick find an unconverted robot, you command it to harvest wood from the Grassy Square, it finds more robot in there, it starts commanding the robots to do the same, but do it safely. trees start growing rather quickly, with this, you improve many of the current buildings. ... the mine now stable to dig deeper. you now have access to constructing buildings that are not boats or planes or time machines.

Yoy decide to have the little guys make a home, but then it kinda backfires and you end up with a town really quickly, they even refurbished your house, I think they are building a Tower or something. you find them making an Metalworks, a larger than usual building to store material, and other stuff. they use wires to collect the sun's energy, lighting the place up a little better. you have reinforced the island just enough with what is left over. hours have been added,

you now have 70 hours left. (an estimate)

My advice is to tunnel the other direction, away from the volcano. There should be more robots, maybe some hidden relics.

My other advice is to get the robots to construct a small clocktower to track the time left and display it publicly. Being robots, it'll probably be a nifty digital display, or maybe a boring grandfather clock style.

reasons should be obvious about now. there is no need for transportation, this is the last landmass in what is left of the world. this place used to be an amazing, massive continent. full of so many transportations, and roads, and cities, and strangers, and robots. and then it collapsed, the whole world collapsed. everthing was shattered, and started to sink, islands were everywhere. everyone that was left was left on tiny towers of dirt and rock, and trees. thousands of years passed, thousands of islands collapsed like the world of old, the knowledge of building vehicles and moving machines were lost, only robots were remembered, and only fixing them is important. it is much easier than making a whole new robot. the only thing holding up this island are the robots buried in it. but, as time begins to erode the land, we are reaching our end. Tt is a miracle this spire still stands as is.

Well, if the island is going to fall after time runs out... Why not dig down to be closer to the water? Sure, a boat might not exist, but a floating island could, right?
>>

My advice would be to not undermine the dwindling support structure, but instead build a ginormous tower. Make it so big you can see into the smoking volcanos!
>>
No. 593886 ID: 9ddf68

well since this is it might as well see as much of the island as we can before the end. does only the first peak erupt when you get near it or do both? Either way I say just did into the mountain until something stops you. Either you'll get lucky and find something useful or nothing will happen and we'll be exactly where we are now but with slightly more knowledge of island.

>there seems to be a point where the mountain actually reacts to how close you get, intresting
That means, if we were clever, we could build an engine or something that was powered by the volcano. We use controlled eruptions to power something!

Possibly some kind of massive mechanical engine? We might have a use for that. Or possibly we could have a volcano-powered hot air balloon to keep the island flying.
>>
No. 593897 ID: f3b5de

Guys. The island isn't flying, look at the map. The base extends all the way into the water. It's miles tall but the island is simply getting thinner.

Also, funny thing if you think about it, the island is it's own character
>>

>>

Part of me wonders about helping out the robots with their tasks. This decay is relentless, and it seems like even if we can reinforce the island some, we're just going to run out of materials and then everything will fall as time runs out...

just make an incredibly large airtight bowl. about twice as wide as it is tall. aka, 1 foot tall for every 2 feet wide. once it's big enough add a floor and make a living area. then keep making it bigger, add another floor over the living area and cover it in dirt to grow food on.
>>
No. 593999 ID: c2139e

the hot air balloon idea would be promising except it won't help anything if the ground it's holding up crumbles away - and it seems like that's what will happen.

i second the idea of starting to build a contained living space that you'll hopefully be able to survive in come the worst case scenario.

My advice is to give up on this world. Make preparations for going to SPACE. Maybe that tower can get tall enough to reach the stars!

I'd also kindof like to find out where the lava is coming from. It's not like there's room for magma to come up through the miles of support structure.

The robots are discussing something. "up, sky, save the green, storage, tiny world" thats what you can hear. the robots are collecting as much metal and dirt as they can, filling the tower with it, as it gets taller and taller. the edge is quickly being covered with plates. both mountains are burning. 63 hours left. that's what the clock says. this small army of yours is working really efficiently , you hardly have to do anything, you decide to take a break and go inside.

speak to the robot chick, ask her for advice on what to do and maybe see if she remembers anything from before you fixed her. And if you already have asked that and already know could you kindly share it with us. Hey it's like you said you barely have anything to do now so might as well talk with someone, hell she might actually have some stories of what the world was like long ago. After all when you've reached the end the only thing left for you to do is look back and reflect on what has come to pass.

when you arrive inside, you see her, on her bed. to pass the time you start to talk to her, to get to know her better. she then shares a story with you.

"When the world was big, and full. I wasn't metal. there were islands all over this beautiful ocean. the sun was bright. We, the Strangers, roamed these many lands, each one, creating their own little city of tiny robots. on their own island. Just like you, it only took them 3 days to reach the end of their goals, to make their island soar, but they all decided not to, because doing so would cause them to no longer speak to their friends on the big island. so in the end, they destroyed their own towering homes and moved into the Continent. abandoning their towns, watching them collapse one by one, with out care. they slowly realized their own island will soon collapse, each on decided it would be a good idea to end themselves because, the thought it was pointless, they were all stupid.... we are all really really stupid... we turned into robots ourselves and went to sleep. some of us decided to swim, but the water was too hot, and we became our own food.... hmmm this doesn't seem right, my memory seems a bit messed. .... so some of use decided to steal each other's towns, and we fought over it by.. and.. umm. then... something... cryogenics? maybe? something? ... why are you alive? there is no one else here. you are the last one."

You don't know why you're here, or why you know some things, or why the world's ending, but at the same time there's no point in worrying about things you can't know. Maybe the answers will come later, when the world ends. Maybe they won't.

My advice is to do some thinking on what matters to you about this whole situation while you eat. You said earlier that you just want a sustainable life, but is that really it? Do you want answers about why everything is how it is, or can you live without them?

after eating up 4 whole Wheat dollars, you pass out, when you awaken, 32 hours remain, the balloon is almost full, you continue to hear more crackling.

... early, we are early...

all you do now is contemplated. you did it, you are ready to leave at any time. but you feel it's too early. you wish you had less time. you wish the island was stable enough to explore more. but. you know it's coming. too fast and too slow, at the same time. and all this time to think about what you have have done. and how this is all possible.

it really shouldn't be.

you climb to the top, passing rooms of dirt, food, and ore. the tower is filled to the brim. you reach a floor with no ladder. Einnob is there, happy and excited.

"We can leave now!" she says, excitedly.
you ask why.
she says you really wouldn't want to be this close to the volcano when the island falls. infact we have to go now anyways, I know we only have less than 30 hours left but look. it's going to be hot, and big, and we need to go far.
you honestly thought this little green place was going to last the entire countdown? you hear it too don't you?

you are flying an entire island, incredible. you float into the sea, keeping the island level as it goes down. hoping to not sink. Einnob asks you to float as far away as you can, where the sea is more blue, it will be colder and safer there.
>>
No. 594228 ID: 9ddf68

so if she said the sea was to hot for people to live in why didn't they head to the bluer part of the sea themselves? Not criticizing or anything just trying to keep a conversation going as we head towards the new world I guess

as you watch the fiery spire in the distance, you and Einnob have a bit of a time together.

chatting away the time. and stuff.
asking, how do you know what's going to happen?
everything is just a prediction she came up with while alive- i mean awake. she wanted to be there to see it, but it was taking too long.
oh, and, we are the new world. this island is all that's left right now, but that's going to change when it happens. when the clock strikes zero. so. you tired yet?

you say no. what is there to do, we have all this time to go around the new town.

you pass out on the console. Einnob takes you downstairs, the the ground floor, gently. you wake up. Einnob is on a bench next to you.

28, 27, 25, 22, 18, 13, 6, 3.

you talked and talked, took a tour of the new town, watch the robots build new things, you saw fish for the 1st time.
on the last hour, you went back to the bench. you looked down, and wondered, what do we do after this? Einnob looked at you, smiling. "We start over" she says. "Just look now, look at the ending, put on your goggles"

Well, put your goggles on and watch the last bit of the island start to crumble away. She says
>"this island is all that's left right now, but that's going to change when it happens. when the clock strikes zero."
It may just be a direct way of saying that the island won't be left at all after zero, but it might also mean something else will happen after that. Watch and see, maybe something more will happen. I'm curious what that something will be.

In the distance, miles away. you see a bulge appear under the spire. and than..
it comes down, and, erupts, an explosion so massive it tears the sky.

And I guess, that's it.

you go back to your room, you look at the box were the real Einnob is. the sun is gone now, the sky, black. you are dead. or that's what it feels like. but, you are safe as well. this is all just weird and dumb. you are tired of this already. you just sit there and wait for her to wake up. Robot Einnob leaves you alone smiling. she says I'll see you soon. and....

well... is that it.

.......

.....

all you wanted me to do, is see an explosion?

..... it wasn't that exciting.....

....

please wake up....

What just happened? Were we a robot all along? Did we wake up in our real body? Did the balloon survive, or was it destroyed in the explosion?
>>

everything was exactly as it appeared!
in this nonsensical world, when the sun went down, there are no stars or moon for light. Day is bright, night is black.
the only questionable thing is why Einnob did not wake up. The cryogenics did not fail, since she was in contact with her robot self... or maybe her robot self only thought she was in contact with her living self, so the cryogenics could have failed and she would never know.
