To my brother, Sir Levias Solis. I have written to inform you of recent events concerning myself, and my state of being. As you know, I was recently posted near the front lines, with the task of regrouping with a much larger unit to the East. It is my duty to report to you that a fierce ambush of guerrilla demons routed our group, and I barely escaped with my own life, separated from the group. I managed to capture one of these demons alive, and am about to venture out in search of the rest of my party, despite receiving a broken arm in the battle. I will continue to keep you up to date on events concerning my well being, and the state of the front.

Your brother, Sir Derek Solis The Second.

Dear Sir Levias Solis. I fear the responsibility has fallen to me to inform you of the ill fate of your brother, Sir Derek Solis The Second. As you most likely know, Sir Derek was posted in our group near the front lines. Our unit was given several missions, but regrettably, before we could begin to complete even one, we were savagely ambushed in the night by several vicious demons, who took to abusing my men. Derek managed to flee, (Left with no other choice, mind you) but was last reported plummeting to his unfortunate demise, off of a tall cliff-edge. I am very sorry to inform you of such a thing, and you have my utmost condolences. I assure you that Derek spend his time in my unit brave and righteous to God til the end.

My condolences, Sir Richard Lions.

Hmmmmmmmmmmmm....

Greetings, Brother!! It is I, Sebastian! I am writing to inform you that you need not fear the demon scourge on your men any longer! For I am on my way to you as we speak, and will vanquish all opposition Post-haste! Please leave some for me.

Your Righteous Brother, Sir Sebastian Solis!!

P.S. Where is Derek, by the way?

Got any old letters from your brothers? You might be able to confirm whether they were actually written by your brothers by comparing hand writing and spelling mistakes. Do not share Derek's letter with anyone since it conflicts with Sir Richard's letter. No telling if Sir Richard made a mistake or there is foul play at work.
>>
No. 684485 ID: 0fc976

Believe the second one. Write a reply back to Derek giving your condolences for his tragic death upon the battlefield. Your response to Sebastian can wait, as he has little time for petty trifles such as reading while on the march.
>>
No. 684487 ID: 2ccbb3

I don't think you should reply to any of the above.

So what's your general plan?
>>
No. 684523 ID: 3663d3

simple, all are true from the perspective of the writer. whoever told sir richard, saw derek fall, but he overestimated how badly such a fall hurt him. that is where the broken arm derek mentions in his letter comes from.

There's no evidence to suggest any of these letters are true. He must investigate his brother's "death" himself, its the only way to know.

Last reported FALLING OFF a cliff, not being recovered at the bottom of one. They also didn't state the condition of his body. In this, we must consider the negative statement - the value of things not said. I'd be inclined to believe that they did not actually FIND a body, and simply presumed him dead or captured. Sloppy, but common in a war zone.

In this case, it is most likely that the letters are more or less accurate with regard to witnessed events, but not conclusions.

Regardless, there's a simple solution. Tell Sebastian that Derek was separated from his men and they fear the worst, that he is at the very least wounded in the vicinity of the front lines, and that he may have taken a demon captive. That covers all contingencies, and gives Sebastian a starting point for rescuing Derek, or recovering his body for burial and inflicting vengeance.
>>
No. 684623 ID: 2739fe

Have faith in your brothers. Yes, Derek does have a lacking constitution and his demise seems likely, but he is not without wits that would keep him alive. And while Sebastian's enthusiasm is often overzealous, his heart is still in the right place. Plus, there's little chance that there would be people foolish enough to forge your brother's letter.

Respond to Sebastian that you have conflicting reports on Derek, but that you will look into them yourself.

Knowing your little brother, i'd say there's a good 50/50 split on wether he's dead or crawling across the countryside, subsisting on damp moss and fireflies for nourishment, though there's no strong evidence going either way besides the letters.

Is the letter from our brother legitimate? Surely you'd be able to recognize his handwriting?

>Got any old letters?

I'm afraid not. Any old letters I kept would be overseas in my homeland.

>All are true from the perspective of the writer.

>Last reported FALLING OFF a cliff, not being recovered at the bottom of one.

Ah, right you are.. A bit sloppy on the part of Richard, but he did his best, I'm sure.. This at least means Derek is most likely alive.

>Respond to Sebastian that you have conflicting reports on Derek.

I do so, noting his most likely condition and most likely location as well, and that he may have captured a demon.. which would be pretty impressive, considering it's Derek. I also write to Sir Lions, informing him that he may have very well been incorrect.

>So what's your general plan?

Well.. Those were the last of the letters I had to deal with today.. So, I suppose I'm free to do what I please, with the day's affairs in order. I suppose I'll relax in my office for awh-

A common misconception. Dogs DO sweat, but not for the same reasons as humans.
Still, they don't sweat like that.

Tell it to have a seat, then review the files you have on the witch. This builds anxiety and makes people less cautious with what they say. If you don't have an actual file handy then dig out a random file and peruse it while remembering the details.
After a few minutes, or when they start getting figity, ask them if they know why they are here. You want them to think you already know the answers, so they're afraid to lie for fear of making things worse.

I sit the dog down on a chair across from my desk, withdrawing all the information I have on the witch.

"Now.. It is my understanding that you have been plaguing these fair people far before the church's involvement. Is that correct?" I wait for an answer. Nothing.

"Do you know why you are here?" The dog stares at me.

Truthfully, this witch has been plaguing this town long before I, or the church came here. I honestly don't know much about it aside from the fact that it's been our largest annoyance since coming here. Still, if I wish to get a reaction out of the witch, I had best choose which of these cases to bring up carefully..

Case 1 - Witch's supposed romance with Thomas Haywright.

Case 2 - The slaughter of domesticated farm animals.

Case 3 - The various small attacks on Church property since arrival.

Supposed romance - who cares.
Slaughter of farm animals - she has to PAY for those.
Attacks on church property - they get that every week from the town drunks, right?

Bring up case two.
>>
No. 684878 ID: 7446b3

Systematically pile accusation upon accusation. Excess info-dump could make the witch confused enough to slip up.

Begin with Case 2. Then proceed with Case 3. For the end, bring up Case 1 in the vein of "How do you know one Thomas Haywright?" and make up some bullshit related to him that would hurt the witch's pride.
>>
No. 684880 ID: fbc59e

Leeet's make the romance our final card, and start with the small attacks. Be insistant on this, and make ourselves look a biiit of a buffon. Second case, less stubborn but still so, then finally, we bring the last case up...gently.
Chances are, THAT is going to be a weakpoint, and after trying to wear her out the witch won't expect us to hit that, I think?

"You wouldn't know anything about what's been happening to the animals around town lately... would you?" The dog does not react.

"Dogs, Cats, and various livestock have been found, drained of blood, and without hearts, eyes, and tongues.. Sick business, that.. It seems the town watch, left with no other suspects, believe you are you culprit of such sick acts, witch." The dog looks irritated.

"After all, who would be suspect, but a disgusting despicable heathen, such as yourself.." The dog looks angry.

I move on to the next case. Case number three.

"Did you know, that there have been several attacks and sabotage attempts on church property, since our arrival in this town?" The dog looks away, upset.

"Several crosses, flags, and caravans have been vandalized. Often in the form of what people describe as.. A small animal, leaving behind purses and satchels.. shortly followed by, colorful and bright explosions. Sometimes the men guarding caravans fall asleep inexplicably.. By the time they awaken, the equipment they were so carefully protecting is gone.. Do you know the punishment for failing to protect that precious equipment, witch?" The dog perks up, clearly interested.

"The penalty is torture. Being burned. Cut. Stretched, and broken.. The tears that run down these young men's faces when they first realize what they have to go through, at no fault of their own.. It touches, even me. But.. You wouldn't care about that, would you. After all, you're an evil, wicked, witch." The dog looks to the ground, it's eyes wet.. Guilty. Hmph! Hmm.. my head hurts a bit.. Anyway, time for the finishing blow.

"Do you know, what happened to a young man, named Thomas Haywright in this town, a few years back?" The dog very suddenly stares up at me, an expression.. almost showing fear. Going to have to ignore this headache..

"It says here.. That Thomas lived far from town.. That he was often shunned, and teased by the children who lived here, due to his place of residence, and his ex-criminal parents."

"Thomas would, in fact, usually be seen crying as he left town. So sad, don't you think? That a young man like that would be tormented by those he wished nothing but companionship with?" The dog stares to the ground.. It's.. shaking a bit? The whole room is shaking! What is.. AHH!

No, he is always a crusader. Though this body may not be his own we cannot let heresy his mind. This is how heretics become heretics, first you think "This is fine it's just a memory/dream/illusion/whatever" and the next thing you know, you've let heretical thoughts infect your mind, and you start empathizing with heretics, and soon enough you're doing that sort of thing even under normal circumstances. The point is that we can't allow the degradation of his moral character.
Basically, she's a temptress of the worst sort and you shouldn't let her anywhere near your imaginary genitals. In fact, you should probably search for a weapon in case she gets too persistent.

>How heretical is this witchcraft on a scale of 1 to 10.

Well, if we're including me being trapped in this boy's body, presumably sometime in the past, I would say an eight.. In any case I must return to my own body and time at once.. I have many things I need to do in the near future, and being stuck here, I am unaware of the state of my real body..

Well, the only magic I saw were... the brief appearance of canine features on her when I.. accused her of being a dog. I'd say it's not currently clear whether it's the same witch or not, considering I didn't get a chance to see the first witch in it's true form.

Fairly easily? Assuming she isn't diseased thirty-something is a fine age to have children at. Besides, having someone he could reliably have an intelligent discussion with would be a positive, no?
Love can bloom, even on a battlefield, but that isn't the sort of thing that a noble and valiant crusader should be thinking of at a time like this.

What foolishness you spout. A woman past her early twenties is past her reproductive prime and you would doom this bloodline with weakling successors?

>Besides, having someone he could reliably have an intelligent discussion with would be a positive, no?
If she couldn't have found herself a husband before she turned thirty, I doubt she'd have enough intelligence to lead a meaningful conversation.
