TUTORIAL

Tiniest wizard is about exploring dungeons and find loot and items so that you won't be killed by tax collectors.

But dungeon delving is dangerous! You will find yourself facing monsters and other traps.

Here is a tutorial on how fighting works
>>

When you enter a battle (which happens whenever a monster appear in the screen) you will be put in a special turn-based battle system

Each turn Tiniest Wizard can move to up to 3 squares in any direction.

To actually fight someone, Tiny Wizard needs to face them. Turning 90 degrees cost 1 square of movement

The red zone in the tutorial show where Tiniest Wizard can land a hit in hand to hand combat.

To attack, you roll 2D6, against the defense of the enemy (which varies from monster to monster). The difference (if positive) between the rolls represent the amount of HP that the monster loses.

Every suggestor can roll through the dice function http://tgchan.org/kusaba/news.php?p=faq then the average between every roll will resemble the attack value of Tiniest Wizard.

For example Tiniest Wizard rolls a 8 against the Slime's 4. The slime is hit and loses 4 HP.

692215

On the enemy's turn, the monster will be able to move and attack. (each turn both Tiniest Wizard and the monsters can move and either attack or cast a spell).

The monster attack rolling his attack value against the roll made by the suggesters. Again the average between all the rolls will show the value of Tiniest Wizard's defense.

Watch out, if your HP goes to 0, you die!

Of course, wacking things with your staff might not be the best idea, considering you are nothing more than a puny wizard.

So. Use your spells!

You have 3 spells at your disposal

:LevinBolt: [SHOCK] cost: 3 MP - A burst of electricity hits any target in a room, decreasing the monster HP by a D6
:Investigate: [SCRY] cost: 4 MP - You target a single monster in a room and you gain knowledge on the monster's stats.
:Burn: [BONFIRE] cost: 5 MP - You hit every creature standing in the squares near yours for D4 points of fire damage. Afte this, the monster will keep losing one HP for the 3 rounds.

Whenever you want to cast a damage dealing spell, roll for damage to, similar to an attack. The monster will not roll for defence (unless he has magical resistance). Again, the average of rolls will be counted as the whole damage dealt by the spell.

Watch out your MP reserve! If you run out, you won't be able to cast spells!

Okay hang on, do we move and attack in the same turn? Does attacking take movement points? Do spells require movement too?
>>
No. 692282 ID: fbe1a9

>>692279
No. Each round you have a movement action (and you can move in any direction, even diagonally) and a secondary action that can be used to cast spell, attack or move again. Casting spell reduces MP (magic points) but does not reduce movement. Movement doesn't cost any kind of magic points, but turning 90 degrees in a direction cost one square (but you are not forced to turn in a particular direction to move, you can move 3 squares up while facing left, for example). Attacking in hand to hand doesn't cost any points or movements, but you can only attack enemies in the three squares in front of you (as shown in the tutorial pic).

Changing equip takes an entire turn. We'd have to leave to do that, and they might cluster by the door, which would make Greater Bonfire useless.

On the other hand, we could exit the room and reenter it, hoping they DO cluster by the door, so that we can cast bonfire and run away, without getting hit?

Scan is always worth it! Especially if it reveals blue slimes can heal other monsters and/or itself! Or it could reveal blue slimes are immune to and/or absorb shock into its attack and/or health! Or it could tell us if blue slimes inflict the dreaded poison status! Scanning is always worth it!

But I agree that we need to run away. Scanning is best done at a distance and not when the enemy is right next to you!

PHEW. That was a really close victory. Those two slimes could've easily killed us.

The main problem was that we spent 15 mp on scans. That effectively means we took 15 extra damage, because due to that ring, hp=mp, and hp and mp were recovered at the same cost via the shop too. Scan really needs to be cheaper! 2 MP seems about right. Keep in mind it has a hidden cost of not being able to attack that turn.

A second problem is that none of our spells were better than the melee attack against anything with 1d6 defense, and slimes only had like a 50% chance of doing any damage at all. Shock's only advantage is that it pierces defense, so it was good against the skeleton and nothing else. Bonfire is kindof a bad spell in general, as without the upgrade scroll we basically have to take a hit to use it, and it does not do enough damage to make up for that, even taking into account the AoE. Heck, because it's an AoE, it encourages walking right into a group of monsters, which is really dumb to do as the wizard. The upgrade scroll's version should have been the default form.

Lastly, being able to attack and then run out of the room has the potential for abuse. The Rogue has a free ranged attack, so you could do that repeatedly to clear a room with zero risk. We always got the first turn when entering a room, so...

I think having a choice of a couple of spells to start off with would have been good. (manashield or phase for a turn or 2 of extra defense, magic missile for 2d4)As is, there is a spell that started out useless (bonfire), a spell that does no damage (scan) a middling damage spell and we had no defensive options other than to just take the hit.

Id suggest having a couple abilities or spells that we pick a few of to start (doesnt have to be many) and/or maybe one item to start off with to choose from. It makes it seem more like *our* character instead of *a* character.

For more tactical depth, how about a 'defensive stance' option that does no damage but makes you less likely to be hit, and reduces the cost of scanning enemies the longer you've observed them?
