you pull out your spacemap that you made yourself and youre very proud of how it turned out

you havent been to any of these places but you saw them through your big telescope

theres DOG PLANET which looks like a lot of fun because its a planet of dogs. having a dog buddy to go on adventures with would be real swell but you are nervous because what if youre too big and have too few legs

theres ANGEL PLANET which has a bunch of big boys with wings and you dont know what they are so you call them angels. they like to fly around outside their planet and be as big or as small as they want.

then theres DINOSAUR PLANET which is crazy because you could meet dinosaurs which you thought was impossible but nothing is impossible in space. youre scared you might get eaten but then again maybe you are making too many assumptions

you drew a nice picture of yourself

also theres HECK

looks like youre stuck in here for a while

your spaceship is still out where you landed it, and you need to be inside it for it to go anywhere. right now its just a big chunk of metal

you entertain yourself by drawing what you imagine a dog lawyer looks like and singing a prison song

you dont know any prison songs so you made one up to the tune of 'ive been working on the railroad'

i wish i wasnt in prison
prisons a bad place to be
i wish i wasnt in prison
it is not the place for me

hmmm da heedee hmmm hmmm

youve never seen anything like it in your entire life.

clusters of doghouses wrapping around a vast stone tower like creeping vines. more than you could believe. enough to house an entire empire. maybe at one point it did. each house so intricate, too, with no two alike. the two houses on the top, most alike in the massive ash trees bursting out of the roofs to kiss the sky.

the bas relief on the tower itself, too. dogs in the throws of ecstasy and agony, sinners and saints at their final judgement. you can hear the wails and the song, the self-flagellation and the laughter.

and the crystals! the crystal garden at its base! you can so clearly see where they were first laid, and how they grew out like untamed roses. beautiful with impossible colors that you could stare at for the rest of your natural life.

no wonder you couldn't find the architectural terminology to describe the queen's court. it is more than a building. it must be Yggdrasil. the world tree. the cradle of existence. realm of gods and mortals and all that is good and all that is evil.

anyway the dogs left you chained up outside while they filed some paperwork.

There's a clear precedent that establishes your client cannot be charged with ruckus of any degree.

You read about it in your first year of law school. The case wasn't assigned to study, per say, but you still wrote about it for one of your papers.

The case of Barker v. Howler.

It was, on its surface, an open-and-shut case. Barker alleged her next door neighbor Yipper was making noises best described as “screaming into a kazoo” for over an hour one workday evening, all throughout the Barker family dinner. When constables arrived on the scene, Yipper admitted she had indeed been making said racket for the length of time the plaintiff reported. A textbook case of a charge of ruckus if there ever was one!

However, what Barker didn’t know was that the defendant had been making such noise to entertain her nephew for the evening- a nephew who was a fussy young pup barely old enough to sit up on his own. The poor pup missed his parents dearly, and Yipper’s noisemaking was the only thing that kept him laughing, instead of snuffling and bawling. Yipper hadn’t wanted to cause a fuss, but she certainly couldn’t abandon such a young pup in a time of need.

737039

The plaintiff’s case was dismissed because the defendant was performing out of a sense of self-sacrifice and loyalty, rather than out of any genuine malice or desire to infuriate. The courts realized they could not in good conscience punish someone who was merely trying to prevent distress in a time of need. Barker herself apologized profusely, and even bought her neighbor a wonderful new kazoo for her troubles.
