Arrived in Kedeesh, eastern edge of the civilized world. I possess a crude map of the region carved on a gold tablet.

20% of food reserves left. The city is on the verge of a food shortage and prices on buckwheat, water, wine, meat, cheese and milk are soaring.

(Try the bazaar) (Scout nearby villages) (Gather information from the local inns) (Engage political entities) (Leave for the plains) (Give up the drakehunt) (Something else)

Geeze, a gold tablet seems a poor choice for a map. Gold's too valuable to use for that, and it's malleable enough that you risk distorting or damaging the map carved in it.

Let's try information gathering.

The inn visitors seem reserved towards my attempts at hearing rumors. Only when I begin to pull gold coins out of my sleeves they seem to turn a greedy eye and a loose lip towards me. The gossip I hear is disinteresting, until I meet one of my spies.

The spy says two local sahdi's, ruler elite members of Kedeesh, collected dozens of Gheyins militia and went after the same drake I'm chasing. The drake headed south from the dried lake in northwest.

The spy explains that it's possible to still buy supplies from the black market, but things can turn violent without him accompanying me. He also urges me to hurry, because there's unrest rising in the city.

(Accept and the spy joins your company) (Kill the spy) or (Leave)

Accept, we need those supplies for a long trek.

Can always kill him if he's lying.

This is either an honest attempt to help and make a profit, or the spy is leading us into an ambush to have us killed for our valuables.

Accept, but be prepared for treachery.

Can we STEAL from the black market? The unrest means we could sabotage the city and keep the heat off ourselves.

I ask Luxaria to throw the bones to see if we can steal without invoking force.

The divination reveals a future that will be bloody and violent on the path of taking by force. The bones also tell that we may yet experience a betrayal from some party involved in our business. Last throw explains that a foe or opponent at a distance may throw unexpected obstacles in our way. We should be prepared for treachery here.

I've asked the spy to follow me while we're in the city.

I ask from the spy if we could steal from the black market. He replies that it's a good idea, but there are worse thugs guarding the black market supplies than there are guarding the commoners' granary. He then says, that the nobility in Kedeesh has the best guards and the best private supplies of both water and food.

Unless anyone else has any bright ideas, roll the bones again and see if stealing from the granary between black market business deals to evade heat will work. Or some other thing that involves proper deals with the black market and stealth-based stealing from the commoners. As if you weren't this sick already.

Go ahead and buy from the black market. Spy might be up to something but we don't want to try force if we don't have to.

Luxaria: "The bones foretell simply this...

When the dust of waters is set in the draught three figures emerge from the ashes of the fallen skybirds...

The second set of bones tells. A desert fox is comes out of its earth hollow, makes a gesture and runs into the dust storm...

The third set of bones tells. A lizard of the old waters comes from a feast of vultures, makes a noise and slithers inside the earth...

The fourth set of bones then finally tells the third figure. A skybird, mutilated and burnt breathes new life to its four companions, and they depart to the sky.

"Does that mean it's safe to steal from the peasants?" I inquire.

"Yes! And more. After the theft you will meet a warrior from the underworld. He will show you the way inside. And when inside, the famine will end, but many will die of hunger before that. Can't we prevent that? Should I throw more bones Fhan?"

You know what? I don't care. Saving hundreds of the poor with minimal losses would improve our reputation and gain us loyal followers, but how long would they be saved? A month? Disregard the concept that famine is exactly equivalent to starvation, where would food would be DISTRIBUTED if the famine ends?

If a few hundred peasants die, that's less mouths to feed. The black market has enough storage to wait out a famine, then advertise thousands more who are starving in places twice as extreme as this backwater. In any case, we can expect them to donate food themselves if they don't have this under control. No, unless you can tell me that the PEOPLE will be saved for years by specific actions, I'm not set on my choiceS. Roll again if you wish.

(What are the consequences of continually rolling bones? I want to get the mission on with, but if we can roll the bones with little fate manipulation than go ahead)

Well that sounds good for you, but bad for a great many others.

Consulting for additional wisdom that might allow you to improve the situation might be useful, but I don't know how generous these bones are.
