"Huh. That's pretty neat."

The notice flashing from your PIC - Personal Info Center, everyone's got one on their wrist these days - displays multicolored balloons and confetti. "YOU'VE WON," the balloons spell out. Just as well since you spent your last 50 cred entering that starship giveaway drawing.

After a quick trip to Jupiter Corp's Callisto Starship Center to claim your prize, you're left standing at Landing Pad Gamma-822 with a big hunk of metal in front of you and no idea what to do with it. The Jupiter Corp rep said this thing comes with some extra bedrooms, so you post an ad on FaceSpace for roommates, hoping one of them will know where the on button is. Almost immediately, you're bombarded with messages. Some of these guys look more clued-in than the rest, but the dummies look like they're pretty fun to hang out with anyway.

[Select up to 4 crewmembers/roommates, at least one of which must be able to fly the ship. Eligible pilots are arranged in the first two rows.]

Ostirova
Carson
Juarez
and Park

Ostirova has a mech and can pilot it superbly.
Park can fix the mech when it's damaged.
Carson can track us down clandestine missions, "discounts", and maybe secret experimental mech parts.
Juarez can get us high paying work, Military grade weapons for us and the mech, and has a network that will be indispensable to us starting out.

Also, three of them can fly the ship. No shortage of pilots.

Ace Quickshot to take point, hunt bounties, and generally when people need to shot without taking out a city block.

Bobby Murda for when the crew needs to destroy bigger targets like mechs, ships or buildings.

Corey Carson for intelligence gathering, mission selection, hacking and piloting.

Jason Juarez to be the group's face and to talk the cops down after things go wrong.

Plus it would be a hilarious collection of quirky personalities.

To handle the issue of "how do I make it go", you decide William Park is a necessity.

"Oh thank God," William says when you ping him back that he's accepted. "My parents have been screaming about how I DISHONNA WHOLE FAMIRY by milling around the house all day. On my way, won't let you down!"

You mentally prepare yourself for all manner of weirdness as you ping Oda. "You're accepted! The sooner you can make it over, the better. I plan on getting off this rock as quickly as possible."

On his end, Oda sips from a piping hot cup of what you assume is green tea. His face is emotionless as he speaks. "I am accepted. A new journey has begun. Winds of change blow strong." With that, he cuts the vidlink. That could've gone worse, you figure.

Somewhat reassured by your interaction with Oda, next you contact Richard Caine, buccaneer and master survivalist (or so you assume). "H-howdy," you stutter, trying your best to remember all that weird pirate lingo. "Uh, y'all can mosey on down here-abouts now, I's got a might-strong, uh, hankerin' for your - I mean, y'alls' - company." He gives you a strange look.

"Don't give me none o' that funny talk, landlubber!" Spittle flies at his PIC's imager, partially obscuring his face. "Oi'll be gettin' meself down to the harbor shortly, but Oi might be a while. Can only go so fast on me peg leg. I ever tell you the tale on how I lost me leg, lad? It was a dark and stormy night--" You can't listen to that just now. Before he can finish, you background his vidlink and ping Natalia.

As her face comes into view over the vidlink, you can tell she hasn't gotten out of bed yet; a late starter, like you. "Da comrade, I shall come to your ship. Make sure to leave a cargo loading door open...the Motherland needs compartment all to herselfs."

One by one, your crew assembles. Thankfully, William is the first to arrive. When you ask him how to get inside, he smiles politely and says, "Just use your PIC, dude. Here, now say 'Computer, deploy boarding ramp.'" You do so, and a previously-concealed door (or maybe you just didn't notice it, you're not quite sure) slides open and a ramp descends until it touches the ground. Will grabs his bags and leaves to perform the ship's initial setup - it's a long and boring process, he explains, so it's best to get started right away - and you turn to greet the next arrival, bumping into a chestplate.

You take a step back and look up at Oda. His longbow is slung across his back, and he carries more swords than he has hands, suspended from various sashes. "Well hi," you say, extending your hand. He bows deeply. "Go on in when you're ready, I guess." You're not quite sure how to deal with this guy.

"I have arrived now," he replies, straightening back up. A solemn look covers his face. "Pleased to meet my new captain. I must go prepare." As he ascends the ramp, you notice he's left a trail of cherry blossom petals behind him all the way back to the terminal, and probably beyond. He doesn't seem to be tossing them himself, they just kind of fall from his robe. How many has he got in there? As you stand staring at the mysterious samurai, a yell from behind startles you.

"Shiver me timbers!" Comes the cry. Oh, the pirate.

"Richard Caine, reportan fer duty, Cap'n!" He grasps your hand in a one-sided shake. He's pretty muscley for an old man, and has the grip of someone decades younger.

"Welcome aboard, uh, partner!" You try your best to mimic him, but he doesn't seem impressed.

"Oi'd loike ye ta meet me own personal first mate, Paulie," the old pirate continues, nudging his left shoulder towards you. A blue and yellow parrot is perched there, seemingly oblivious to its surroundings. "Say ahoy, Paulie."

"Rawk! Gimme yer booty." Paulie whistles after he speaks. He'll easily become either the most fun or most annoying member of the crew real quick.

"That's a good bird, Paulie! Say, I ever tell you about the time I met ol' Paulie?" You guide Richard up the boarding ramp as he speaks. "It was a dark and stormy night, an' I was drunker than a Russian in a vodka store..." His voice fades away as he enters the ship; you remain outside the greet the last, considerably more noisy arrival.

Each heavy thud upon the ground is linked by the sound of hydraulics as the legs of Natalia's mech move. Certainly not a stealthy machine, although it moves considerably more smoothly than you're used to seeing, and isn't leaving massive holes in the ground as it walks. Bringing aboard a champion mech fighter was a good idea.

"Privyet, comrade," Natalia says across her mech's loudspeaker. "Where do I load Motherland?"

Recalling the command William taught you earlier, you say into your PIC, "Computer, open cargo pod." The pod closest to you and Natalia begins to open.

"I will load Motherland and close up on my own. See you inside, kyaptain." You notice her accent inserts an oddly endearing Y in "captain". You admire the smooth motions and flawless armor of her mech as she loads it aboard before climbing up the personnel ramp yourself.

After a minute of poking around, you find the general direction of things but haven't fully explored the ship yet. The boarding ramp led into a hall, which you crossed into the living room in the center of the ship. It's a long, rectangular room with an ample view of the outside world through the triple-treated magic space glass or what it is that constitutes most of the ceiling here. The walls are lined with empty shelves for displaying your non-existent knick-knacks, an empty aquarium, and a few panels that look like they variously control temperature, communications, and other system features you're sure you'll only screw up if you mess with. At the back of the living room are eight doors, in groups of four on either side. These, explains William, are Jupiter Corp's modular ejectorpods; their entire contents can be easily swapped out with something else simply by jettisoning one and loading in another. Three are totally empty and suitable only for cargo, but the remaining five are set up as fully-furnished bedroom suites. Your crewmembers claim their room of choice, putting their belongings away before coming back to the living room to sit and discuss the most pressing question of the day:

We need money, wat do?

Well, let's get Natalia mech fighting ASAP, and ask ol' Richard Caine if he knows of any famous booty from his travels that he never got around to claiming. Ask William Park if he has any ideas for inventions that he never had the chance to build, due to finances/materials shortages, and finally, ask Oda about old acquaintances of his that might need our help.

Guys, this isn't hard. We have a noble samurai, a salty pirate and a mech fighter, to go with our american-asian mechanic.

It's clear we're going to Japanese Space. We'll become famous for our crew complement alone!

Think about it! Nobody, but nobody, loves the mech fights as much as the Japanese, and William can help Natalia with mech repairs - that's why we picked the combo, after all. You'd also find those who hear the word 'pirate' and would pay for the privilege just to hear Richard Caine rant drunkenly/entertainingly, be it full on nonsense or not. AND we have an actual, honest-to-space-god Honorable Samurai with us.

Figure out what role you'll play in Natlia's Harem The stoic, experienced, and technical seem to be taken. Try aiming for "man who looks like a woman" or "woman who looks like a man" as those usually get a lot of leeway. Or just install your mind into the ship's computer. Surely omnipresence with the crew won't drive you insane.

For money: Ask the crew if they have any leads. If there are no leads, then plot a course for Japanese space and research The Mech Circuit.

If we're looking for income from mech fighting tournaments, Natalia likely know when and were the next ones are.
