You are focused, correct? Good. You need to empty your mind of all thoughts, anything that could distract you aside from my voice. Just stay concentrated on the darkness in your eyes. Now I want you to fill that darkness with a color.

What color do you see fill your vision?

You: Purple. I see purple.

Ada:...Really?

You: What is there a problem with Purple?

Ada: No I just...I was expecting you to say red. It kinda looks like pagans are obsessed with that color- Wait a minute purple is the color of the dress you bought. Is that why you chose it?

You:...So what's the next step Ada?

Ada: I need you to think about what the color means to you. When has it been important to you? and after you've gathered those thoughts tell me if you find it to be positive or negative to you.

Grab her hand, look her in the eyes, and tell her, “I know it must’ve been hard for you to trust me, when you first revealed you were a Spinnensch, but I just wanted to thank you for trusting me back then. And.....I’m glad you’re the one teaching me this Arcamagika stuff.”

You: Okay, I'll try again.

Ada: Do not push yourself too hard, that will only do you more harm than good.

You try to focus some more on the small machine in front of you, A small light bulb attached to a battery. You've been trying for three days and today is the first day you've managed to get this close to succeeding even a little. No matter how much effort you put in you can't manage to power the device, you were patient at first but now you can't help but feel frustrated.

After a few more failures and one more bad headache, a bolt of Arcamagikal energy arcs off of your body and touches the machine briefly. The bulb flickers for not even half a second despite your efforts.

Ada: You did it!

You: That was barely anything...It flickered for a little bit and that was all!

Ada: Some adults can barely do that, You should be proud! A little more time and you'll be able to use more advanced techniques. For now though just know that you did really well. I'm sure I'll have a hard time being taught how to summon things when you teach me...you are going to teach me soon right ?

Hmmm. If we're going to teach her summoning we probably should stick to theory until we've recovered from the migraine a bit. Practical summoning for the first time you probably want someone nearby who can handle it if the demon gets summoned but doesn't feel like following orders or gets violent.

All right, let's start with the basics. Time to learn how to conjure giant demon dicks.

Actually, you should make sure if she really wants to be a Summoner and not want to learn some other type of Pagan abilities.

And it’s entirely optional, but if she wants to make it official, she can also get The Heretic’s Fork on her arm or something.

Oh, and remember how she was taking notes when you told her about Pagan stuff back at her shop? You should tell her to pull out her notebook and be ready to start taking notes! Partially as a joke and partially because it might help her learn these things.

You: I'm not so sure I'd be a great teacher. I kind of get to go around some of the limitations of summoning but I'll do my best.

You start Ada of on the basic meditation to connect herself to the Aether: Deep breaths, concentration, the basics. Before you can get into anything else the door to your room opens, Hakim stands in the doorway.

Hakim: Gallows, gotta minute?

You get a feeling it's important so you excuse yourself and talk with Hakim outside in the hall.

Hakim: Remember that priest soul you had trapped in that playing card? I managed to make a deal for it. Son of a bitch tried to scalp me for information but I got what I needed. There's a problem though, I couldn't get much information on the supposed secret weapon the Church has. I could get a location on where we might find info though.

Hakim: Over in Northern Dovan there's supposed to be something that can help us.

You: That's deep in Church territory though! How are we supposed to get there?

Hakim: I don't think we can send a large group. We'd have to send a spy or something to check it out. Also, I managed to get the location of some Azurite and find out where your demon pal's friend was last seen. Give me your map so I can show you.

He takes your map and marks three separate locations, two Azurite spots and the last known location of Mojo.

Let's do Fiddler's sidequest after we finish up with Ada. Going into church territory seems like it might snowball and we won't have another chance for a while.

Sheesh. Not sure if we have the manpower to handle all this at once... A spy though... wasn't there someone who was completely invisible? She'd be perfect. Unless there's someone who's even better at spy stuff. I don't think any of our main party members would do.
The Azerite locations need war parties for them, obviously. I feel like you should go check out the Mojo lead rather than attending a war party, for that personal touch.
>>

This deal was very fruitful. Excellent work!
The most important task is the church spy. Killboss could organize a qualify team, but since our worst problem with the church is their information gathering capacities it can be beneficial to keep the number of people on the know at the minimal we can. From our inner group Uma is the least conspicuous and Troy experience make him the closer we have to a spy, the two can take care of this mission.
The Mojo story is a personal problem, therefor I can't ask anyone else to look it for me. I'm going alone.
Hakim and Issei should look at one of the Azurite locations and the other we will trust to whoever Killboss think is capable of retrieving.

Make sure you let him know that you appreciate the help.

Then go back inside and finish what you were showing Ada. If she asks what Hakim wanted to talk about, tell her what he said, and then tell her that you’ve still got time to finish her lesson before you go take care of this. And be prepared for Fiddler to suddenly wake up at the mention of Mojo.

Once you’re done with Ada’s lesson, go report this to whoever you need to report this to, but leave out the info about Mojo, since it’s a personal thing.

Make sure the appropriate people are sent out to the Azurite locations and a spy is sent into Church territory to learn about the Church’s weapon.

Then you and whoever else you choose can go check out that lead on Mojo.
>>

I’m pretty sure Killboss can easily assign someone with better skills and way more experience in being a spy.

>The Mojo story is a personal problem, therefor I can't ask anyone else to look it for me. I'm going alone.
That is a terrible and extremely stupid idea, Roland shouldn’t go alone. He should bring at least 1 or 2 people with him, just in case some Church assholes show up. Or monsters. Or another town that’s being mind controlled by something.

>War Parties
You: Maybe we can arrange some larger groups of war parties for these missions?

Hakim: If you want, but you of all people should know that larger groups attract more attention. Not to mention one of these Azurite sites is in a small city called Arkon, the place near Adipedi just below Meland. It might be hard to assemble a whole war party for that place, It doesn't help that around this time of year they have a large city-wide festival.

Hakim: The second one is just wilderness though. A bigger party might be good for that one, you ever been to Abidos? The tree's there actually grow in large forests, the sap they store is disgusting and irritates the skin not to mention the sickly grey color the bark still has. A lot of the plants stink like hell too.

Hakim: Anyway, it's up to you. I'll be ready for anything if you really need me, but don't forget I've got my own things to do too.

You thank Hakim and return inside to tell Ada what you found out. You feel like the new information is too important to continue any lessons for now. You wake up Fiddler Imp and head to the Gilded Cage's lobby to plan.

The Gilded Cage's lobby has been changed since your team grew. The Administrator says it's a little less claustrophobic, The higher ceiling does help you feel less suffocated.

Flint is in his office talking with Killboss.

The rest of your group are in the Rec Room. Troy's been working like hell recently to get his forces together so he's taking a bit of a breather with Issei and Uma. Along with the rest of the smugglers and muscle-heads he let in here, Troy also brought Luucc in to set up a bar in the Rec Room too.

JTF-TG all sit in the lobby, battered, beaten, and covered in scars but still triumphant from their last mission. Thanks to their help you now have two Azurite orbs in your possession.

So we could just keep the Azurite out in the middle of the Gilded Cage so everyone gets more exp, but that could risk getting them stolen.

Of course! The only person who'd know what do do with this page was right in front of your the whole time!

You show the page to your team's newly acquired feline companion, Guillotine. He looks it up and without interest before leaping down from his perch and going elsewhere. Well, that didn't help much, now who'll translate this for you? Guillotine was the most qualified out of everyone on your team and he was stumped by this! How will you ever-

Fiddler Imp: God dammit Gal gimme dat!

Fiddler looks the page up and down, reading it allowed under his breath. The way he pronounces the words is mostly made of odd hisses and growl. After he's done he hands it back to you.

Fiddler Imp: It's some sorta poem 'bout da war.

You: What war?

Fiddler Imp: Dat's right no one really talks about it anymore. Well a long time ago like right after Athmoor died all a' da demons dat sprouted from his dead body just sorta ran amok killin' and eatin' one anotha', eventually smarta demons started ta form and dey managed ta rise up ta de top a' da ranks. Dese new demons just kept killin' an' killin' until dey turned on each otha' an' ate one anotha' whole.

Fiddler Imp: Da remainin' demons dat were smart enough saw how dat endless fighting turned out fer dem big guys and decided to put an end to da fighin' once an fer all. Now we live in peace an' harmony yadda yadda yadda, I didn' exist back then so there ain't much more I can tell ya. Anyway it ain't nothin' special, even if ya read it out loud in human-speak it wouldn't do ya much good. You probably gotta use some of ya pagan magic stuff do anythin' wit dis.

You head toward Flint's room. Inside he and Killboss converse over papers and diagrams spread on Flint's wall.

Flint: ...With what material we salvaged from the attack I'm sure we can make this work, but we might only get one chance with what we got...

Killboss: We don't have much of a choice. Now that we have to be on the attack we need to kick up our offense. Oh, Hey team leader, what do you need?

You: Please ma'am, just Gallows is fine.

You inform the two of the new Azerite locations Hakim told you about.

Killboss: Great, glad those Voodoo men are pulling their weight.

Flint: I still don't like the idea of full armies going into cities, we'll be met with force immediately. Maybe having a larger group in an unpopulated area like the forest will be better, but from what I've read that place has odd and undocumented flora and fauna that could be dangerous. Even so, we've got retrieve the Azerite as fast as possible.

Killboss: As for the weapon's location, we have specialists trained for such missions. I'll find some qualified agents to go check it out.

Flint: Do you have anything to add to the matter Gallows? Any input you have could be helpful.

Show them the page, explain where it came from and how you got it, explain what Fiddler Imp told you it said, and explain what Fiddler Imp said about us probably needing to use some of our Pagan magic to do anything with it.

Oh, and if they ask, be specific on which of you summons dropped the page.

>Input on anything?
We should ask if any of the Spinnensch would be willing to help and if we get any volunteers, we should find out what their skills are, so we can decide who goes where. Hopefully, any teams made of 1 of each, a Pagan, a Voodoo user, and an Unter Soldier, will be able to get along and not fight amongst themselves.

Wait, are there any Unter Soldiers here that we can ask for help or are there still only noncombatants here? If there aren’t any Unter Soldiers available, then we shouldn’t ask any of the noncombatants for help.

I have being thinking for a while. Would Ada like to join your group? I mean, i am sure that no one would like to just stay in here doing nothing, knowing all that is at stake. And she allways finds herself inspired whenever we go on missions and heards our stories when we come back. I know it is dangerous, but it would be her decision. If we ask the Spinnensch to participate in missions, maybe she would join? A new asset to the team is allways good.

>The Spinnensch
Killboss: The Spiders have already sent a large number of soldiers and other personnel to be stationed here. I'm sure a few of them may be useful for infiltration and spying; Though, call me biased but I have more faith in our spies then theirs.

Flint: We'll talk to them more about it at our next meeting, I'd hate to have extra forces go to waste with all the work you've put in to get them here.

>The page
You hand the page over to Flint and tell him how you got it. He looks over it for a little bit.

Flint: Well you certainly got lucky, this does happen sometime's but it's quite uncommon. That specific demon dropped this item so I'm fairly certain you can create an aberrant summon with this. The process will definitely be difficult for you; it may even take days to complete, but with your natural talent I'm sure you'll get it done.

Flint: I mean. I could always try to do it for you, but then you wouldn't learn anything. It's important that you expand your knowledge of techniques such as this. Still, I will help you a little, here.

Flint roots around the shelves of his room and pulls 4 large books out and hands them to you. You nearly break your back trying to carry them all.

Flint: Those outta have enough information in 'em to make it easier, course you might have to go through and re-read them a few times. It's not exactly light reading I bookmarked some important chapters so make sure you read through those when you have time.

Flint: And another thing...I can't help but notice you still use some pretty old weapons. Aside from that weird looking blue gun, everything you have seems sorta old. We do have access to better weaponry if you want, but we have been having problems with ammo recently so we won't be able to load you to the teeth with bullets. You look like someone who'd fancy a nice pair of revolvers right?

Killboss: Maybe if you donated some ammunition to the armory we could offer more, this place makes it's own food but not it's own bullets.

>I'm fairly certain you can create an aberrant summon with this.
Cool!

>The process will definitely be difficult for you; it may even take days to complete, but with your natural talent I'm sure you'll get it done.
Days, huh? After hearing that we’ve got news about Mojo, I’m not sure if Fiddler Imp would be willing to wait for that.

Also, not really knowing how Voodoo spirits work, the info they gave Hakim might only be useful for a certain amount of time and if we take too long, what we’re looking for might not be there anymore, which would definitely upset Fiddler Imp.

>this place makes it's own food but not it's own bullets.
Or does it?

Remember, there are things left behind here from previous teams that have played this game. And like that one room that had that machine that stabbed your eye with a needle and fixed your eyesight, there might be other rooms with other things that we can use. Have we completely explored and unlocked all of those rooms yet? For all we know, there migh actually be an armory or something else really useful down there!

Well if we're getting new guns we can hand over the old ammo. Also I think we have a surplus of ammo. Sounds like a deal.

As for the abberant summon... yeah, that's a good idea. Fiddler should still be Gallows' Eidolon since an Eidolon requires the summon to trust you and the new abberant would take some time to build that trust.

I wonder if we could learn some extra level 1 summons to burn to make Fiddler an Eidolon? Surely we don't have the complete set.

I’m not sure we should bring them with us. With our luck of bad things happening to us, we’ll just end up losing the books somehow. Or worse, the Church somehow ends up taking them from us and destroying them.

>Ada's researched a lot of different magic. Even if she's just beginning summoning, she'd probably be able to help puzzle out how aberrant summons work.
That’s actually a good idea. Even though it’s like skipping the basics of summoning and going straight into the advanced stuff.

But if Ada does learn how to make an Aberrant Summon, then she won’t be hindered by the normal summon’s required 5 minute wait time for people that aren’t a Rune Child.

Hell, if we make an Aberrant Summon like Flint said we could, then we could just give it to Ada so that she can have one for if she ever needs to summon something!

Great, more stuff to study, good thing you are good with this kinds of things. Maybe you can even study it with Ada, she can start getting some knowledge about pagans beforehand. If you don't have any missions now you might start polishing your skills with this. Or leave it for later.
If that page was a poem, maybe you can translate it into a song to play en the violin. It might help, who knows. Music allways finds a way.
Is there somthing we can do about the lack of ammunition? It seams like a big problem, since we are at war and all that.

>New Guns.

Flint shows you the guns he has for you. All of them seem high quality, at least compared to the pieces of scrap metal you've been carrying with you.

Flint: I hope you'll understand that I can't let you take all of them. We need to leave some ordinance for the soldiers. Anyway, take your pick.

[Minotaur Handcannon]: An extremely powerful revolver. A good shot can punch through weak cover. Single action, you're only going to be able to shoot once at a time. Holds 6 shots, comes with 12 extra Handcannon bullets.

[Gemini Repeaters]: Dual revolvers. Two times the firing speed and two times the bullets, fire up to 12 bullets at once. The bullet's don't do much damage on their own, it's really only effective if you fire multiple times. Have fun reloading all of those. Each holds 6 shots, comes with 60 extra Small bullets.

[T-22 Arc Blaster]: Stolen from church personnel and repurposed for your use. Two firing modes: Primary fires a ray of plasma energy, Secondary fires a slow-moving projectile of explosive energy and uses more ammo. Speaking of ammo, good luck finding any extra outside of the red team reserves. holds 4 shots, comes with 5 Energy cells.

Handcannon. It's one-handed so we can use a tentacle with it, and it's a great sidearm.
Also ask if you can get some spare gunpowder. Taking apart bullets to summon volatile deviants gets old quick.

Definitely get the hand cannon. And make a mental note to firmly hold it with both hands so that the gun’s recoil doesn’t end with you getting hit in the face and knocking yourself out!

Now that you’ve chosen your new gun, which one of your old guns are you giving up and how much ammo are you going to leave behind? Except for the Blue Baroness and any ammo for it because it’s a gun that can fucking teleport you and there’s no way you’re giving that up unless you come across something better!

Hey speaking of the Blue Baroness and its ammo, do Killboss and/or Flint know about Clancy and his shop the Hack 'n' Slash in Ebony Port? Didn’t he mention having giant pieces of equipment for making special caliber bullets like the ones your Blue Baroness use?

Since Clancy is also a Pagan, maybe we can get his help in making those special caliber bullets? Which would also require bringing him and his equipment here. And I’m not sure if he can make regular bullets, but making special caliber bullets can also be helpful. With the number of Pagans here, it should be easy enough to get the materials required to make the bullets.

Yeah, you should definitely do something else first. In fact, let’s go put those books away in your room and come back to read them later.

Then maybe you can pick up where you left off with Ada’s lesson in summoning? It was kinda cut short.....and you’re more than willing to take any excuse you can get to spend more time with her.

Then after that, you should go look around to see who’s available to go with you to check out Mojo’s last known location. Even though it’s a personal errand and not an important mission, it’ll be incredibly foolish for you to go without bringing at least 1 or 2 people with you! Ada: Everything done?

You: Yeah, now we can get back to where we left off. I doubt we can get to summoning demons right away, but we'll get enough done.

You get out the materials you had ready to teach Ada, a wooden board, a jar of blood, and some sigil diagrams. You write down the appropriate sigils on the wood and place it in front of Ada.

You: Okay, put your hands on the board and focus. The sigils going to do most of the work for you so it's only really important that you stay concentrated on the energy you feel running up your arms.

Ada follows your instructions, she jolts a little when she touches the board at first but steadies after getting used to it. You begin to feel it too, the energy radiates in the air.

Ada: How long do I have to do this for?

The wonderful, lovely red demon energy should give an idea on how things are going. We might need to look REALLY deeply into that red, to make sure we aren't missing anything. Your faces might have to practically touch for it too. Yes, for safety.

And it's definitely the red that it beautiful, not her eyes. Well, her eyes are beautiful too. But, we aren't going to get lost in them! Nope, that would be weird! The energy is what's captivating. Yep, if we get lost in them, it's definitely because of the energy.

You lose your very important train of thought when you hear Ada screaming. She's finished her meditation pretty quickly, but that's not really a good thing; meditation should go on as long as possible for a better connection to the Aether. You'll work on that later, for now, you should make sure Ada's okay.

Ada: That...That was...

You: Breath Ada, you're done right now. Are you okay? How was it?

Ada: It was intense! I can not believe every summoner has to do that!

You: Every pagan has to do it. It's important to make a connection to the Aether regardless of whether you summon demons or not. More importantly, what did you see?

Ada: Just...A lot of colors and large looming figures and these weird voices talking to me, I did not understand anything they were saying to me but it felt like I was witnessing a whole history being laid out before me. Like I said, intense.

You: That's good, but you need to come understanding what's happened in your vision in the end. It's different for everybody but you should have something. We've got a lot of work ahead of us, we both do.

For now, you've gotten a lot done with Ada, there's still work that needs to be for either of you to get better but some nice progress has been made on both ends. Fiddler Imp is still waiting in the lobby but maybe you can fit in a little more practice with Ada? Or you can just get going with Fiddler, you feel like he's going to get more upset if he waits any longer and that's not good if you're supposed to get him to trust you more by doing this.

So does this mean that Ada is now officially a Pagan? Maybe you should make it official with a Heretic’s Fork somewhere on her arm or something?

>maybe you can fit in a little more practice with Ada?
I think that’s enough for today.

>Or you can just get going with Fiddler
At least bring 1 or 2 people with you! With your luck of unexpectedly running into enemies/Church Priests/monsters/weird shit, you’re gonna need someone to be there with you to back you up!

You can ask Ada if she wants to come, but she doesn’t have to if she doesn’t want to. If she does want to come, make sure she brings some weapons with her.

And make sure you weren’t so distracted by teaching Ada that you end up forgetting to leave those books here!

Maybe not flint though since last we saw he was busy with killboss.

Flint already knows since you ran this by him first before doing it. No matter how strongly you feel about Ada there's no way you would've done this without permission from a higher up.

You fill Ada in on your plans to help Fiddler Imp and ask if she want's to come. She says yes and goes to get ready to leave with you. While she gets ready you look around to see if anyone is available to help you: Uma is nowhere to be seen, Issei is nowhere to be seen, and Troy is passed out drunk in the lounge. Most of the forces in the Cage seem to be out working on missions for the red team, gathering intel and the like, or resting after having just finished work. It looks like the only person you have to aid you at the moment is Ada which now that you think about it doesn't seem like such a bad thing.

Ada returns ready to leave...

They were running from something, but what? In fact, you aren't entirely sure if you're still going the right way. That or something dangerous is waiting for you near your destination. You bend down to pick up your hat when you hear something else approach from the same direction.

You don't have time to prepare before it's right in front of you. A masked man on a large bird, a skipper bird, stands in front of you holding a long scythe. Fiddler Imp was quick enough to return himself to the Aether before being seen. The man tries to speak to you, but it's hard to hear him through his mask and the storm.
