Welcome to Maze Quest, the newest game by Macrocosm Productions!

Aid a hideous alien in their mission to explore the laberenth! Help them avoid traps, fight the native beasts, and map out the maze.
Due to the unprecedented weakness of the species of choice, the casualties in player character ubduction retreval were out of the usual tolerences. To compensate, you will be grouped with a number of other players in guiding the alien.

For reference the gem is apparently the "Archer's boon [rank 1]", and the recommended uses include "Unlock Moving parts, Increase Force limit, +3 Aesthetic appeal". Since none of those things have happened automatically, presumably there's some way to activate or consume the gem? Maybe the intended use is trading it to Menoetius in return for the desired effect.

Morgan hides behind the wall and waves her bat around in the slime's view. The slime throws itself down the stairs. Morgan pulls the bat back and the slime slams into the wall. Morgan hits the second slime and it disintegrates.

Morgan: "Now that the monsters are dead we can get a good look around. This room has one of those compass things just like the other rooms, I can't remember if the original room was the same though. To figure that out we are probably going to have to go back and forth a few times playing a game of 'spot the difference.'"
Morgan sighs "This place is seriously weirding me out. The 'bed' was just a mattress, the keyhole on the chest was painted on, and I don't know if you guys have noticed, but all of the doors are somehow pull doors from both sides, not to mention that the handles are always on the right. It's like whoever made the place was given a bad description of the stuff we have on Earth, and then never questioned any the mistakes. From what we've seen I wouldn't even be surprised if every room in this so called 'labyrinth' has 4 doors."

Morgan: "The way I see it we have two options now, go back to the middle room or explore another room. What should we do next?"

The dead slime evaporates releasing the pressure plate it was standing on. The paths to the center jerk up into a raised position.

Morgan: "That was... odd."
Morgan: "I think this room is supposed to be a bottomless pit, except there is a bottom. Right there. It's just painted black. It's still too deep for me to jump down without hurting myself, so I don't know if it actually makes any practical difference. These plates seem to control that draw bridge thing. I can step on the one on my platform if you don't think that would cause any problems."
Morgan: "It seems like my prediction about every room having 4 doors is holding. Except... Hmm. If I just went up stairs, how would this room's west door line up with the door from the archer room? I could have sworn the archer's east door was on the ground."

Morgan: "Ugh, this is bugging me now. Is this the same place or not? At least if North, South, East, and West changed at some point I could tell where I went wrong, but they stayed consistent the whole time!"

Morgan sighs: "Okay, let's look around first. A few things are different so far. The north door is red now for one. Additionally, the chest is where it started last time, the screen is turned off, and there is one T instead of three, so I probably haven't been in this room before."

I think I need a little more data to come to any conclusions about the compass markings... but it's possible that you're in a maze where you can't see the walls, and when you walk into a wall you wind up in this room instead. Or maybe the "shop/storage" rooms show up every third room?

What I really want to know is, where do the exits from this room lead?

...I don't see any bows, but if they have a ranged attack you probably will need to beat a hasty retreat, as they could attack you with impunity.

It's jargon from a game. When something whats to fight players roll dice to figure out who gets the jump on who first. In this context, what my colleague said could be taken to mean "well they haven't taken aggressive action / don't appear to be preparing to attack you".

Morgan looks around the room: "I think that's it for enemies in this room. When I killed the last one and when I opened the box I was able to hear the messages you were talking about before. Unfortunately, it seems I can't understand the messages like you guys do."

So even if they're low level weaklings, they're not without some sense of tactics. Something to be aware of.

We might have to figure out how to trade these things in if you keep collecting more. There's only so much room for bling around your neck before it'll start getting uncomfortable.

Kind of surprised you don't have dice, dice are like coins, there's just more sides! They're a simple, low tech way to generate random numbers. Crystal batteries are the default, however, through some effort, it is possible to add custom batteries to the store. Menoetius: "As for how they work, you just pop them into any device that uses them and go crazy. If you are interested in the technical details go beat up a nerdy looking Busaskan Kinter until they tell you. It's what I would do."

Sure, we'll hopefully have down time in-between the fighting and survival stuff, and I bet getting some basic game stuff from Menoetius would be relatively cheap. We're not in the room with you so you'd have to move stuff for us on our turn, but it should be doable.

Ha ha!"
