A Feast of Souls

[NSFW]

“Justice? They are nothing but beasts, deserving nothing but complete extermination. They cannot fathom something complex like justice, nor do they deserve any kind of mercy. The only thing they deserve is the complete extinction I’ve already given them for daring to even exist, and you will not stop it.”

Well, this is as good as it gets. The idea of using the vampire incidents might be wise, given that it's not technically a lie. It might make Elric look bad for taking something that doesn't belong to him and it came from a dead person, but it's better than nothing.
>>
No. 933141 ID: c7f906

>>933132
Maybe not imply you saw where he was attacked, but say you picked it up at a sketchier pawn shop or a flasher salesman? Maybe got it from some street urchin? I just don't want to upset her too much by making it sound like we ignored an attack or make her think we're some kind of looter. Good news is we even have a vampire proboscis to back up that undead theory. If she asks, say no, you don't think it came from the vampire that attacked him, but it seems they're about. Also if she implies it, no you weren't hiding this from her, you never read the back and are kind of feeling a little stupid now for not putting two and two together. Anyway that's a good story even if you don't alter it.
>>
No. 933151 ID: b1b4f3

Elric probably shouldn't show off the proboscis. I kindof wish we'd delivered it to Oran already.
I'm not sure it'd be effective to say we got it from a pawn shop, considering how we denied it was Tertian's and it's got his name on it.

Also keep in mind two things:
1, we need an excuse to have avoided admitting it was Tertian's. If Elric had bought it, wouldn't he have looked at the back of it and noticed the engraving? I just noticed something important: This is the first time Alisa has mentioned Tertian by name. Elric *could* claim to have bought it from a shady dealer of some sort and saw the engraving and assumed it was someone who pawned it off, but didn't put two and two together when she asked about the prostitute.
2, we need an excuse to keep it, because otherwise she'll try to return it. Best excuse is that Tertian is already dead. Second best would be to say we bought it directly from him, but that contradicts issue 1. Pawn shop sortof works here since it's a legitimate transaction.

>d-did… did you steal t-this…?
"Alisa, how could you even suggest I'd do such a thing? I'm truly hurt that you'd think I'd do that!"

Then explain that you didn't steal it because 1) if you did steal it, you wouldn't have let her hold onto it when she asked to hold onto it and 2) since you let her hold onto it, if you did steal it, you would've run and not come back.

If she asks why you lied to her when you said it was yours earlier, tell her that you didn't think she'd believe you if you told her the truth.

If she asks what the truth is, tell her that you found it on the ground in an alley and you've actually been looking for Tertain all day to return it to him. Although, you'll admit that you might've gotten a little sidetracked when you met a certain lady with beautiful white scales. *wink*

And that's why you left earlier, you figured you had enough time before curfew to ask if anyone has seen him. But everyone you asked said that they hadn't seen him. So you'll have to try again tomorrow and hope you find him.

If she offers to come with you to help, that's when you tell her about the blind date and how she'll be too busy doing that to be able to help you.

I’d say either the pawn shop >>933151 or the good samaritan act >>933152 would work here.

But I don’t think we should mention that we know Tertian is dead. It might be better to say that we don’t know what happened to him and that he might be dead.

This is probably a good opportunity to reveal our true nature to her. It explains why we have "stolen" property and it neatly explains why we cant really be together. Plus, if she and Karn get together, she is going to end up knowing eventually anyway. We might as well reveal ourselves on our terms.

Or we can dig a pit of lies and ruin the whole thing.

>This is probably a good opportunity to reveal our true nature to her.
We can’t just go around telling everyone about what you are. The less that know about it, the better. You’ve been warned about this, haven’t you? That someone you care about might just turn on you out of fear. It’s better if he doesn’t know… err… you mean her.
>Plus, if she and Karn get together, she is going to end up knowing eventually anyway.
Why would Karn tell her? Why would she even believe him? You’re pretty sure Karn just want to stroke his own ego, so he won’t talk about anything but himself.
>We can dig a pit of lies and ruin the whole thing.
Isn’t that what you’re best at? Ruining things?

>The act of eating her would still harm us, so no, we would not be able to fulfill her fantasies.
Eating her would be fine. It’s the absorbing her part that will kill you. Of course, you still don’t want to eat her because of the risk. After all, you have no idea how to get her out… or even if you can get her out! Besides, she doesn’t smell like she’ll taste any good, so you might not even get her down in the first place… and you really don’t have any reason to eat her anyway…
>We could say we bought it from him after we had Gay Sex.
Eh… you have no idea if that will turn her on or turn her off so… maybe after you’ve gotten a better feel of her?

:ElricFoS: Well… yeah… though someone had thrown it away or dropped it, so I just picked it up. Had no idea who it belonged to.

Tell her if she wants the truth she has to give it back to you first.
Then tell her some of the truth. First, Tertian's sister wanted to kill you just because she didn't like how you act, and he told her where to find you. You fought her off, then went looking for him, and that's how you got his necklace. He was a bad man, and got the justice he deserved.

If she's still upset after that just leave.
>>

Well shit, it turned out she was inquisitive and smart about the whole thing. And Ema is not particularly good at lying. So what we sould do, if we still want to try to deceive is tell half lies and half truths. Or just admit that you are in this city because of some grim business you have to deal, and this guy was a part of it which is true.

Anything we say to her won't make her trust us if she doesn't want to trust us.

Show her that bit of vampire you collected, ask if she knows what it is. If she doesn't, explain. Then explain that the vampire hive has a foothold in the nobility of this down; that makes them the kind of dangerous she'd be safer off not knowing instead of a danger she should be be warned about. You're sorry you lied and you had no intention of hurting her, any your sorry your paranoia caused you to do so. Unfortunately in dealing with the undead, it's smart to keep one's affairs in order, and leaving her alone was something you didn't want. And you understand if she says no, but you would still like for her to go to the festival and meet your friend. He's confident and a skilled fighter when he isn't being an absolute grump.

Yeah, tell her this.

If she wants proof, show her the vampire tongue thing and tell her that the grim business you’re here for involves vampires and for her own safety, you can’t tell her anything else. And neither you or her can go to the guards because, since Tertian‘s sister was a part of the guards, there’s no telling who else is involved.

Ask her to promise to not tell anyone about this.

Once you get her to calm down, you can try explaining the double date thing again.

This is kinda what i figured would happen, but people still didnt want to tell her. Either we tell her the whole truth, or we leave and dont talk to her again(lying some more and having her boot us out would also lead to this). That is pretty much the choice at this point.

I feel like a fucking idiot for not thinking of this sooner. Let’s tell Alisa that we’re a bounty hunter.

Someone in the far north put a bounty on Tertian because, several years ago, he was a serial killer that seduced people and murdered them after luring them to bed and having sex with them. You have his necklace as proof that you stopped that monster from harming anyone else.

If she asks how the necklace proves anything, since you could’ve just wrote his name on it and not killed him for easy money, tell her that your employer has a mage that will cast a spell on you that can tell if you’re lying or telling the truth.

You can’t tell her anything else because it’s classified.

Make very sure that thicczard understands that, if she wants you gone, you will follow her wish, be gone post-haste and never bother her again.

Tbh, what really was the issue to me was just how they disagreed. They would just shut me down with a "No" or "We are not doing that"(are not, rather than shouldnt) and not even give their reasoning. Tell the truth and have her run to the guards? I don't think so. Telling the truth would also involve revealing Ema's real name and appearance, which would be very bad and make it that much harder to do what we came to this city to do.

>>933671

Also, Alisa is an extremely poor choice to tell our secret to. She’s so innocent, she’ll run off and tell the guards about us. And even if they don’t believe her, Kern and Athena Mediean will believe her and then they’ll come hunt us down and kill us!

We should not tell Alisa the truth about us!

I said tell the truth, not her secret. That means tell her there are vampires about, and not make shit up about being a bounty hunter which she'll imidiately call you out on and will probably try and verify later. You know, not add to the clusterfuck of lies we're trying to maintain? Revealing her true identity and undead status were never part of the equation OR my suggestion. I'm honestly struggling to believe I didn't make that understood.

We could tell her that when we found it and that because of how expensive these things are we actually had no intention of giving it back to a whore.

As for Kharn, we could say that in the short time we've known her we've seen how good a person she is and we want her to be happy but we're a traveler so we can't stay with her so we thought we could try hook her up with a local guy we've kind of become friends with that we thought she would like and he would like her.
Sorry if we over stepped our boundaries.

Or we could tell her the truth.

Vampires are a bit of a non-sequitur though? Talking about them doesn't explain any of the stuff she is asking about, and only frightens her or makes us look crazy. As of >>933521 I agree with your goal, but not your approach there.

Telling a partial version of the truth (or even spilling all of it) results in a meandering web of improbabilities and murder. It's not going to do any better at convincing her we're legit than making up more lies. Fortunately, we don't have to tell her ANYTHING. We can simply say "sorry, I am in some dangerous shit and I don't want to get you involved" and let it go. It would be nice to do it gently, and in a way that doesn't preclude further contact with this or some other EmaSona, but I'd rather cut losses than make it worse.

It pretty well explains why the hooker died without having to lie and explains why we were being sparing with the truth, Which explains EXACTLY the things she's asking about. It's also a better plan than just pulling a 'need to know basis' card and hoping that changes her mind about Ema being a liar and not wanting to go see Karn, which no way approaches the goal you say you agree with.

:AlisaFoS: A… fighter? And he’s a man? L-like you?
:ElricFoS: A bit like me, yeah. But if you want to meet him on your own terms, you can always find him in his training hall down at… err… whatever that place is called?
:AlisaFoS: Training hall? W-wait, you mean t-t-t-the weapon master!?
:ElricFoS: That’s the one, yeah.
:AlisaFoS: Oh, I u-used to w-watch him t-train in t-the summer when he w-wouldn’t wear a s-shirt and… and… err… I mean, isn’t he… y-you know… h-he’s always surrounded by woman but h-he never… err…
:ElricFoS: He’s into women. He just isn’t into women who are trying to prove themselves stronger than him or something similar.
:AlisaFoS: Oh… err… t-then… I mean… I guess…
:ElricFoS: Lunch tomorrow?
:AlisaFoS: …t-tell him t-to meet me on t-the main plaza. I d-don’t want t-to go s-somewhere where there a-aren’t any other people… j-just in case…
:ElricFoS: I’ll make sure he’s there on time. Don’t you worry.

The two of you stand in awkward silence for a while, with only the sound of Alisa fidgeting around nervously breaking the silence.

:AlisaFoS: So… err… I’ll… um…
:ElricFoS: Yes?
:AlisaFoS: I… I g-got some things I want to d-do tonight so… um… u-unless there was s-something else?

Did she give the necklace back yet?
Tell her if she could put in a good word with the head librarian that'd be nice. You do want access to the restricted books.
And maybe a goodbye kiss?

Crisis (seemingly) averted; good job, Ema.

I think we'd be better giving a nice goodbye hug instead of a goodbye kiss.
"You're a wonderful lady, Alisa. I'm sorry for having caused you to worry."

Nice, this went better than expected. We just need the necklace really, we already cause you too much trouble. Just remember what we said, she is a beautiful person, in looks and in heart.

Make sure she gives you the necklace.

>Unless there's something else?
Uh, isn't the curfew supposed to be in effect right now? If the guards see us out and about, they might think we're up to something and arrest us for suspicious behavior.

So can we leave or are we stuck here for the night? Because if we're stuck here, we ain't gonna be sharing a bed with Alisa. Maybe we can sleep on the floor or something? Maybe even a private room so that she won't immediately see Ema, in case she can't stay as Elric all night?

>Hug instead of kiss
Not even a kiss on the hand?

I don't think kisses are good in these circumstances.

I think a hand kiss is probably better than a hug, actually. Any lingering concerns about physical safety come rushing to the fore when that person steps into your personal space and wraps their arms around you. Hugs are for people you trust absolutely.

Make sure you get the necklace from her.

>OH! This is why y-you wanted those books about the undead! I see! It all makes sense now!
Looks like asking for those books earlier helped make this story more believable to her.

>I…um…a-actually…I…wouldn’t mind if…y-you stayed for a bit longer?
I’m not sure if that means she’s gonna let us sleep here or not? Maybe after hearing about the vampires, she wanted us to stay here to keep her safe? We might wanna ask if she wanted us to sleep on the floor or if “stay a little bit longer” meant just long enough to finish this conversation?

>Oh, I u-used to w-watch him t-train in t-the summer when he w-wouldn’t wear a s-shirt
Was her tail wagging when she thought about Karn training shirtless?

>…t-tell him t-to meet me on t-the main plaza. I d-don’t want t-to go s-somewhere where there a-aren’t any other people…j-just in case…
Oh, good, she’s still willing to go in the date. Although, now we’ve gotta tell Karn where she wants him to meet her, since it’s not in front of Oran’s shop like he wanted. Eh, we’ll tell him in the morning.

That’s actually a good point.

We should tell Alisa that we don’t know if it’s a good idea for us to step outside during the curfew. We don’t need the guards arresting us.

But if she really wants us gone, then we’d better take the risk and go out into the night. And we probably could save ourselves some trouble by going to Tertian‘s house and sleeping there, instead of going in the morning.

That’s a good reason to do a kiss on the hand instead of a hug.

Hm, good point.

Also, make sure we make up a backstory for Elric to tell to Karn so he isn't confused when asked about it.
