Good morning, voices.
Excuse me for a moment, I haven't slept very well.

Did you have some strange or unsettling dreams?

Anyway, how has Petal being getting along with Grek? And has Sticks returned yet?

Further, when was the last time you sparred with Black Fang? He is still technically your student, it would be poor form to ignore his tutelage completely.

I can't deny that sleeping is rather troublesome without a bed, but yes, the situation with Sticks has been troubling me. I do not feel guilty for it since Sticks was not harmed. Rather, I am feeling angry at myself for letting it get to me so much.
I have already dedicated myself to a goal that is far beyond my importance. As a knight, I have been trained to give myself for others.
My emotional instability is not appropriate... but who can really ignore feelings?

Mother and father would know how to handle it.

Petal and Grek were getting along very well from what I saw. So much that Black Fang looked like he felt he was being left out, which is interesting considering his background.
I have not sparred with him yet. I'll do so when I have the time.

Ridder, you may be a knight errant, but you're still human... er, leferran, or whatever. These troubles you're experiencing may seem small compared to your overarching goals, but they're your own, they're real, and they do matter. Don't think less of yourself for pondering on them - doing any less would make you little more than automaton, and the humanity that forces you to spend thoughts on these issues is the same humanity that fuels your righteous compassion.

The same can be said of Black Fang - he may be a huge, imposing monster, but even he craves fellowship and brotherhood. Perhaps you should spend some time with him to put his mind at ease.

Wha? He's your student. You don't do it when you have time. Make time. Train with the man, that's why you offered him training, right? Get down there and show him how to use his sword properly and see if he can get some pole training in, too!
>>
No. 93822 ID: f256f2

I kind of agree. Even if you just bring him along next time you go out, he could offer a unique perspective on your problem. There could be manly bonding involved. There's more to being a teacher than combat, anyway. He seems to be as interested in your beliefs as he is in your skills. Talk to him.

For which we are not responsible at all. IT WAS ENTIRELY YOUR IDEA RIDDER!

Since the "boss" is still out of range, you could as well deal with Salabim. Ask your allies what they know about trolls, where they live, what they eat etc...

Then, get on his tracks.

I see. I have been completely neglecting Black Fang. I will spend time with him right away.
In the mean time Iesgip can track the Trollking. If she finds a trail I can follow it together with Black Fang.

"Iesgip!"
"Sir, yes, sir! Iesgip reporting, sir!"
"Iesgip, you have been very dependable. Your loyalty and effort have made you a strong part of this force. That is why I would like to entrust you with a very important task."
"S-sir! I would be honored, sir!"
"I have told you about the Trollking yesterday. Do you remember?"
"Sir, yes, sir!"
"I need you to track him down. His trail should start at the riverbank to the east. When you have found him me and Black Fang will face him."
"Sir, yes, sir! You can count on me, sir!"
"However-! I would like to stress that failure is an option. Do not endanger yourself. We can't miss you here, Iesgip. You are very important yourself."
"..S.. Sir, y-yes, sir.."
"Do you still have the ring?"
"N-no, sir, Grek has it."
"Then get it back from her and move out when you're ready. Dismissed."
"Sir, yes, sir."

Not to intrude, but wouldn't this be a good time to make a showing of force to the Boss? More so, to go to the tower we were at, and see if anything can be struck with the residents there? While you may not want a full out assault, a diplomatic gesture, with a strong backing, could render them neutral in the fights ahead. The base is hidden for now, and unless someone comes along by accident, I think it would be safe to take Black Fang along.

Hello Darlen, Ridder noticed you weren't there last night.

He seems, calmer, but still confused, unwilling to confront his thoughts he throws himself into whatever local mess seems to be at hand to distract himself. He tried to ally with the elves but that went sour, you just saw the conclusion of his dealings in that fae place.

He even ended rescuing some elf girl from the forest recently so she may end up being competition, that is, if you still want him?

If I still want him.. Well, yeah! I am super crushing on him. I just know it's only that.. A crush. He's so great, but definitely no lifelong partner.
If he finds a wife in the elven girl then.. It'll hurt, but I'll get over it. I'll wish them all the best.

I really doubt it, though.
He's too.. He's still too immature in his ideals. Which is cute, but, you know- It's not helping.

Yet that isn't how love really works. You love those you spend time with. Those who support you and whom you support.

It isn't like angels descend from on high the moment you see him and sing an immaculate chorus while neon lights up behind the guy saying "THE ONE TRUE LOOOVVVEEE!!!"

Love is much more, subtle than that, that first sight love... that just lust too. It comes in multiple forms. It likewise fades just as easy.

I lead Petal up the stairs to the hidden room.

"What sort of materials do you need?"
"Metal. A solid amount of metal."
"I shall see what I can do."
"Oh, thanks."

In the room Petal looks around in awe, obviously enjoying the well preserved state the room is in. I invite her to to sit down.

She looks at the painting before sitting down.

"'Lady Opalteare.'"

She begins to read the book. I wait patiently at her side.

"This is a log or dairy by a Lord Sylerleave. I'd say a dairy since it is all very personal. Most of it is about how much he loves Opalteare.. 'Sweetesth lips, soft yet burning, trace along my loving heart, oh Opalteare, oh Opalteare, no being ever as graceful as thee'. Want me to go on?"

She flips ahead to about the middle of the book when she suddenly stops.

"'Wretched beings of mud and weed, Ne'er shall I name them my brethren. A plague, A pleague. Death is my name, The Widower of romance.' Sounds like suddenly got very angry.. The handwriting is more aggressive too. But why-- Ah. There are several pages missing her."

She runs her finger along the remains of torn pages.

"That's the transition, and it's missing."

I would guess that he was alive when the other elves decided to become orgiastic hippies, and resented it. The censorship could easily be their doing.

Do we know why the elves abandoned technology in favour of nature? Aside from the mystical 'it is not growing blah blah' nonsense that obviously wasn't enough to stop the elves back then. If we don't, it might be worthwhile to ask Petal what she knows. Not much, probably, considering she was considered a youngster going through a phase.

I highly doubt the druids have come here, let alone this room. They couldnt have removed the pages.

"Perhaps he was alive when the elves were giving up their old ways. What do you know of the transition?"

About how long ago, an estimate by mortal timing anyhow (it seems that time flows strangely in Everseed.)

I am very interested in restoring this house to it proper order, and am partially interested in its history. You see I had to remove Lord Sylverleave as he had turned the main hall into some kind of deathtrap masquerade.

"About how long ago was the transition?"
"It was before I was born. I'd say about 500 years, give or take a hundred. The High Druids don't like to keep track of things like this."
"I see. ..Come, I have something else that may interest you."
"Oh?"
"When I first entered here, the ghost of Lord Sylverleave was still present. He played the harp you saw. As he played, large hooks on chains descended from the ceiling, carrying corpses that moved in such ways that they appeared to be dancing. He tried to force me to 'dance' as well."
"..Will that mechanism still be working?"
"We can find out. You stay on the balcony, and I shall attempt to play the harp."

We follow my suggestions.
I play the harp to the best of my abilities: The result is nothing more than a mess of sounds. To add some order I try each string individually.

Nothing appears to happen.

I continue playing for a while, until Petal calls down from upstairs.

"Nothing is happening here. Perhaps it was just part of the haunting."

Really, more paranoid questioning won't help, I think, though I don't blame you. I say we just treat him normally, but keep an eye on him for a few days, and inform the others to do the same.

As for his question, any of the answers already given should work.

...and, just a thought; if he is indeed here to spy on us, could he possibly use some sort of magical communication to send messages out? That would be nearly impossible for us to detect, making him a perfect spy. Just a thought, though; no reason to act on this just yet.

Have one of the others finish him, or do it yourself, if you're feeling up to it. Alternatively, have Black Fang restrain him for questioning.

Whatever you do, though, do it quickly; you need to take care of that wound.

And, as a side note, we need to ask Black Fang exactly how many Fangs there are later. By the time Orange here is finished, they'll be down at least five members.

I'm beginning to get used to the heat. It feels as if it's sinking into my body.

All pain is replaced by heat.
