Previous Chapters: http://tgchan.org/wiki/Bite_Quest

Spikesby and his companions, Ria and the Adept Holizen, stand in the driving rain as lightning crashes over the jagged cliffs of Flails Breaker's domain. A fight is on. The Wizard Flare has left his domain to attack the Lord of Marvels, who is apparently preparing for war.

Supposedly, Flails is an ally of the Lord of Marvels. Spikesby is here to either convince him that the Lord of Marvels is a traitor, or to kill the Wizard with the antithesis he possesses.

But first, they must enter the castle. They explained the situation already to the guard, but its only reply has been

"Mortals shall not enter. Leave, or I will strike you down."

The options are limited. A plan is required.

Back up a bit so you can come up with a good tactic. That way you can get a bit of an extra element of surprise and stuff. You're probably very much going to need that.

Wait why is Ria there? Why is anything female even near Flails domain? Who thought this was a good idea? Under current conditions the end result is always us trying to kill Flails, why do we even want to do that?

Sending Ria far away in the jet beforehand and you know not claiming entry but an audience with Flails outside would be nice. As to what we could possibly tell him that would be so important to him dignify us with his presence tell there's fighting to be had. Big fight with a proper opponent. And what Flails loves if not fighting and fucking. I don't know in which order but there you go.

The answer to all your questions is "because /quest/ is very stupid".

The only thing I can suggest is "leave" because there is no reason to be here or do this.
>>
No. 267352 ID: bf1e7e

Adept: Attempt to draw his attention, fight defensively and cautiously. You're probably the toughest one here right now.

Ria: While the adept hopefully has him distracted, apply a bit of that anti-magic antithesis to spikesby's sword hands, maybe that will help since they're no longer magically sharp (by piercing magical toughness). After that, you have a big gun. Use it! Take potshots at the centaur when the adept and/or Spikesby won't be in your line of fire and try to stay out of the centaur's reach.

Spikesby: Let Ria dip your mitts, then try to flank the beast and get in some good stabs in its horsebody.

If it doesn't leave the bridge, flanking won't be an option and it'll be harder for Ria to get a shot. But the plan should still work out without the flanking provided the creature doesn't have any manner of thaumaturgical attack (and this is flails, so that is pretty likely).

I think the plan was to kill all of the "evilest" wizards and only leave the moderatly "evil" alive while Blacksoul wipes out that grey alzheimers sludge. The plan got kind of hurried though as Flare blasted off to bomb the shit out of the Lord of Marvels place.

All of it will probably lead up to some heroic sacrifices. Where almost everyone dies, and that's the good end. Bad end is... lets just say it will probably be very bad.

No. 267360 ID: e3f578

Does the fact that Spikesby used to be a magical creature have any sway? I mean that could also be stupid, but well its an option. We could ask a philosophical question about the nature of what is and what is not a mortal. Hell, Adepts ain't really technically mortal since they got some wizard magic power given to them, right?

Ria tries to communicate with it again, but it just gets ready to charge.

Holizen sends a gout of flame at the creature, but it goes wide, and the monster slams into her, impaling her on his lance and trampling her. Meanwhile, Ria has put a bit on antithesis on his blades. The substance is oily, slick, and the water doesn't affect it.

It doesn't take long for the creature to extract its lance and turn to Ria. She fires, hitting it in the chest and tearing pieces of flesh from it, but it barely slows until Spikesby leaps behind it and severs its head with a sweep of his blades.

It collapses with a wet thump to the ground.

Ria quickly attempts field surgery on the Ophian Adept, barely managing to stance the blood. She is very weak and barely conscious, but alive.

Ria has to accompany Spikesby, otherwise he can't communicate with anyone besides Wizards.

The plan was to visit Flails and tell him of the Lord of Marvels treachery. Hopefully, it would dissuade him from attempting to fight Blacksoul and his companions, who are probably massing to attack the Lord of Marvels now. (this was my understanding from before)

They sit in the rain, blood streaming into the abyss that is traversed by the bridge.
>>
No. 267371 ID: bffa2a

Oh good they work. Now all that stands before you is a castle full of creatures bred to fight.. or fuck. I'm hoping for the last one, much easier. I still don't like Ria being there. Outcome of Flails wanting to split her with his fuck spear because hey it's Flails are too big and will just lead us to fight no matter if he isin't the traitor.

Ria isin't going in there, period. Wizard can understand us so reach him and talk. Everything hostile is for fighting. If he's traitor hope he's sporty enough to give you a fair fight, if you reach him. I wish we could have called him out.

Ria is going because if it comes down to needing to kill Flails, having her oil up her tits with antithesis and rubbing them on him is pretty much the best chance we have.

Also because there are probably going to be other things in there BEFORE flails, and the fewer we need to fight the better. Let's not forget that, in the event of a fight, Spikesby no longer has magical toughness and the Adept is mangled. Ria at least has a big gun and knows how to use it.

She is far, FAR too much of an asset to leave behind right now.

Spikesby leaves Ria and Holizen in the plane, out of the rain, and journeys into the castle alone.

The hall, like a giant ribcage, stretches indefinitely into the gloom. Unlike the last time, though, he can hear raucous shouts and see illumination coming from up ahead. He hears various sounds from side chambers, and generally remembers the layout from before - the creature that eats corpses and the Fucknasium specifically.

Quick peek in fucknasium if there's no Flails and you should hear by sound if he's there then avoid corpse eater and continue forward. I doubt Flail's will be quietly reading a book so navigate by sound. Flails likes to shout when he fights likely when he fucks too as you should remember when he chased you, try to recall that voice and seek it out. Avoid other noises to the best of your abilities. If you hear really metal music that might be him too.

Spikesby peeks in to the Fucknasium. Flails isn't here. Now that he thinks about it, the main corridor was dark before, and no sounds came from there. Flails is probably at the end of it.

Before he can turn to leave, though, he hears a familiar voice.

"Hey! Is somebody out there? You've got to help me, please!"

N-no, Spikesby thinks, It can't be!

Sky?

Spikesby knows he should go - he's here to talk to Flails... he -he should go, but he can't help it. He has to at least see.

He creeps quietly to the door and peeks in. She hasn't seen him. It's the same room - it... he remembers, just like then.

It's hard to tell how Flails will react upon seeing Spikesby, it's easy to assume he's still sore from him jacking Sky. Best at least try to talk to him while he's not super pissed off.. Though chances are once he finds out, he'll probably put two and two together and Spikesby won't have any possible chances of having any form of communication with Flails anymore.

Spikesby knows she's not really Sky, it's just... how can he leave her?

There isn't much he can do, he supposes. He'll just have to come back to her as soon as he can.

He goes down the main hallway, encountering nothing and entering a vast chamber. A huge, thick rug leads to a giant throne, where Flails himself sits, drinking and eating.

The carpet is strewn with blood, food, and ... other fluids, and Flails's eyeless attendants coo and moan, shifting languidly at the base of his throne.

"WHO ARE YOU?" Flails bellows, "WHAT'RE YOU DOING HERE?" It's obvious the Wizard doesn't recognize him, and that's not really surprising to Spikesby. He doesn't know if Flails remembers him freeing Sky, but he should probably keep his identity hidden for as long as possible.

You recomend that if Flails has any connections to the LoM then he should cut them immediatly and instead possibly go rape Radia into submission, she looks like a cockhungry one, all she needs is a big fat juicy one up her ass and then she will calm down. Or possibly fly into a fighting frenzy, either way Flails should enjoy the whole deal.

Spikesby tells Flails that he is from Flare and that the Lord of Marvels is up to no good, has been caught redhanded with his hands in the cookie jar and now there be a shitstorm coming. He says that the Lord of Marvels is allied with the Progenitors from the Sea of Obvlivion, and possibly plans to flood the world with it. He recommends that Flails should cut any ties he has with the Lord of Marvels and instead possibly go rape Radia into submission, she looks like a cockhungry one, all she needs is a big fat juicy one up her ass and then she will calm down. He chooses not to mention the dead guard.

Flails sits up in his throne, leaning forward,
"FLARE, EH? WELL, ME AN' FLARE ARE BUDDIES, BUT SOMETIMES HE GETS CRAZY IDEAS. LORD OF MARVELS IS ROCK SOLID. HE'S THE ONE WHO GOT US TO STOP MURDERING EACH OTHER IN THE FIRST PLACE, HIM AND BLACKSOUL. IF HE DID SOMETHING, I BET HE HAD A GOOD REASON FOR IT. BESIDES, WHAT GAVE FLARE THE IDEA ANYWAY? Spikesby walks closer and explains to Flails. He says that Lord of Marvels convinced him to go into the Sea of Oblivion, and describes some of what it was like inside.
He explains that once he was inside, he spoke with a Progenitor who explained that Lord of Marvels was in cahoots with them, and has exported antithesis.

Spikesby explains that the Progenitor stripped him of magic, which is why he is no longer magical, and he escaped the Sea rather than go along with the plan.

He decides not to tell Flails Breaker about the Antithesis on his blades for now. He knows that in a stand up fight, he has no chance of landing a blow, and that it would be impossible to outrun him as well.

Flails sits on his throne, thaumaturgical fire licking his awful, bloody skull as he considers Spikesby's words, then he speaks.

"I'VE KNOWN MARVELS A LONG TIME. HE'S A PLANNER. EVEN IF ALL THAT STUFF IS TRUE, I GOT NO REASON TO BELIEVE HIS PLAN IS TROUBLE FOR ME. IT'S PROBABLY SOME IDEA TO GET RID OF THE SEA. IT DOESN'T MAKE SENSE FOR HIM TO WANT OBLIVION TO SPREAD - THAT RUINS HIM TOO. HE KNOWS I TRUST HIM, AND YOU AIN'T GIVEN ME A REASON NOT TO."

Tell him that the progenitors have already figured out a way to send monsters through the wall, and that since Marv is working with them he probably knows about it. He already tried to take out K'Shaara, too.

The fact is, the progenitor you spoke to made no mention of sparing any wizard, no matter who they might be. Marv never did so, either. His whole deal seems to be based on making the world okay for the progenitors, which probably isn't a good thing for Flails Breaker either since they probably remember how much he loves a good fight.

Tell Flails that regardless of what you say, Flare is on his way to kill Marv now. If he wants to get to the bottom of this before Marv is toast then we should also get going now.

If Marv is up to no good there will be proof there. If he isn't, then Marv is probably forgiving enough to protect Spikesby from Flails.

What, and telling him that Flare is on his way to kill Marv is a good idea? Spikesby tells Flails that Lord of Marvels taught the Progenitors how to create a monster that could Pierce the Wall. One went through and wiped out cities in Radia and Soulfire's territories.

Flails shrugs, although a little uncomfortably,
"I'M TELLIN' YOU, HE'S GOT A PLAN."

Spikesby puts on his best game face, and lies like a motherfucker. He tells Flails that he has antithesis on his blades, and Lord of Marvels sent him here to kill Flails, but that he can no longer be controlled by Wizards because of the Sea, so he chose not to.

"KILL YOURSELF!" Flails shouts. Nothing happens. The silence is mildly uncomfortable as Flare begins to stand. "GRH. I NEED TO THINK."

Suddenly, a Nemesis crashes on the carpet in front of Flails, leaping to her feet. She holds a scroll in her hand and screeches to Flails. "Blacksoul has gone insane, and wishes to kill everyone. He is massing forces to attack the Lord of Marvels, who requests your assistance immediately!" she screeches.

Flails seems unsure of what to do. He remains half standing.

There's a way to get to the bottom of this, assuming the wizards will stop just for a moment to make one last attempt to talk things out before it all goes to hell.

Blacksoul is a mostly reasonable guy. Tell Flails he can act as a neutral party. He should demand an investigation of Marv's base camp and dwelling before things get nasty. If Marv refuses then he is the enemy. Kill him... unless he's already dead when we get there. If Blacksoul refuses to listen then... er... sit back and watch? You're not gonna stop him.

Spikesby quickly asks if Flails knows why any Wizard would want to kill all the other ones.

"FUCK IF I KNOW. I THOUGHT I TOLD YOU TO FUCK OFF." The fire in his eyes grows more intense.

Spikesby starts a pretty badass speech. "Okay, I'll leave, but..." is as far as he gets before Flails Breaker unleashes a terrifying roar, and Spikesby scrambles as quickly as possible back to the airplane.

He squeezes in the cockpit and sees Holizen, conscious, but with a heavily bandaged face and throat, and apparently only one eye.

He explains as best he is able to Ria what happened. She is glad that Flails won't fight, but feels pretty terrible about leaving Sky's sister inside. Spikesby does too, actually, but thinks Flails was probably pretty serious, and he's missed his chance.

Holizen speaks up. "Where to? My mission is accomplished, but we have plenty of fuel. I'll take you wherever you want."

Please suggest a destination and general course of action. Spikesby knows that Soulfire probably received the same message Flails did, but probably moved to attack. He also knows that Blacksoul is allies with Childless Meg and Queen of Sorrows. His blades will no longer carry antithesis, no matter where he ends up, though - it only lasts for so long.

Also, I'm going to assume by the title of the chapter, shit is eventually going to hit the fan. That being the case, figured I'd bring some ideas up.

In the long run I'd think it'd be a good idea to stock up on supplies and prepare for an eventual loss. The wizards don't even want to cooperate in taking down the void because of stupid personal grudges or lost romances. In the "real" world, Spikesby's dealt with a ton of shit. losing an eye from these wizards, countless fights. most he'd experienced in the void is some starvation. Hell, there's even civilizations in there. As long as his group stays together, they should be fine. They could even direct civilians toward the civilizations, and probably even start anew.

That is exactly what we are going to do. Not only is it outlandishly risky to go back at this point, if we go on to steal Flails Breaker's new Sky he will probably assume that we were bamboozling him and go to aid Lord of Marvels, even if only out of rage and spite. And that is exactly what we don't want.

Title of the "book" actually, but yes I agree. Waste will most certainly be splattering against the turbines one way or another.
I just hope "The End of the World" is a catchy title meant to convey "This is the dramatic conclusion of the quest," rather than and indicator of how we're doing.

Of course if it comes to that we could always build a raft and live out at sea. Oblivion doesn't seem to like water for some reason. Curious.

Spikesby, as much as it pains him, is forced to admit that it would be the height of foolishness to attempt to rescue Sky's sister. Maybe he can think of something later.

He decides to go warn Childless Meg. They need not worry about landing in or attempting to cross the swamp - they find her, and her 'entourage' near the edge of the Radiant Plains.

"Lord Flare told us about her," Holizen offers, "During the war, she ... did something to herself, permanently altering her body. She cannot use the normal sorts of magic the other Wizards utilize, but instead, is an expert at undoing the spells of others. She leaks poison and curses from her broken body. Don't worry - it wont affect us unless we are near her for an extended period of time."

They exit, thinking of how to approach, and what they intend to do.

The corpses of her animated... things are quite pungent.

Meg grunts. "Good news about Breaker. Not such an idiot after all. Less trouble for Sorrows. Heard about Flare. What do you have to do with all this? Come to tell me about Breaker? I'm to deal with Soulfire. Suspect Radia will try to kill me."

"Already done. Some Ravian talked to sorrows. Said some other 'team'," she snorts, "dealing with Breaker. Must have been you. Sorrows isn't looking to fight Breaker if she can help it.

I got a note from Blacksoul. Marvels selling us out to Oblivion. Ryxix Crazy. K'shaara resurrected? Never knew she was dead. Blacksoul has to deal with Ryxix to get to Marvels. Hope he can do it. Sorrows going to help. I got to deal with Soulfire."

She pauses for a moment, closing her eyes and running her tongue along her lips.

"Said you informed Flare? Who sent you to inform? What did you tell him? You stink. Smell like Oblivion." She sniffs the air again.

Oh, this is going kind of in a bad direction. Time for a version of the truth. LoM tricked you to go into the sea, once there you were changed by one of the natives, who confirmed that they had a connection to the LoM. You went around a bit to see how life was on the other side, concluded that it sucked pretty hard and then went back to this side. Ended up in Flare's territory and told him about your findings in the hope he could come up with something. He decided to go fuck up LoM immediatly and you scrambled to pick up the pieces.

And that's pretty much all. Lets hope she doesn't press any further about anthithesis or somehing.

Oh, and we should probably consider where to go next. If we had the antimagic power charged up to full we could probably get Ryxix. But without that we don't really stand that much of a chance against him. Guess we could try to find Kshaara and see if we can talk some sense into her or something so she can get Ryxix out of the way.

She smells the touch of Oblivion on Spikesby. Unless he explains what that's all about she's probably gonna think he's with Marvels. Bad.

Come clean, I guess. You went into the Oblivion to attain free will, found out Marv was up to something and decided you weren't going to play along, stopped by Flare's to fix up a wounded companion on your way out, and had to tell him about it the whole ordeal in payment. You're basically a double agent. Leave out the part where you have a jar of wizard poison, though.

Also mention that you surmised by your change in color that you've still got some Oblivion in you, but it isn't dangerous and you believe it should fade away eventually. But what does she mean by "Something else?" Can she describe it? That's either very good or very bad.

He paints his stay in the Sea as unpleasant, and says he's been changed and that's probably what she smells.

She sniffs again, thoughtfully.

"Nope. Not what I smell. I smell blood. Progenitor blood. Faint traces of it on you. Concentrated on the snake. Hmph. Smell Radia too. Coming this way. Be useful. Stuff's poison. Seems like you know that. Understand what Marvels tried to 'trick' you into. Asked myself why Marvels would 'trick' you into going into Sea. All makes sense." She shrugs.

That. Do your utmost to not fuck it up. Maybe add some gentle caresses, hugs, whatever. Keep him distracted. Blacksoul looks like he's almost done.

If tits go up and Ryxix gets wise or freaks out, then use the K'shaara figure to restrain him as best you can, but again: only if something goes wrong.

Well he can probably tell that you're already full of K'Shaara's blood, so that's probably bad for you. On the other hand, it should keep you protected from mentalism so so long as you don't lie big you might be able to get out of this.

Explain to him that you were in Suri when Ryxix invaded, and that K'Shaara consumed you to learn what had been going on. She apparently disgorged you here in the desert, and you were just trying to stay out of the way and avoid Ryxix' army of roving snikts. When you saw Ryxix attacking attacking Blacksoul, you decided to do what you could to help.

I tell Blacksoul that I have to try to rescue my friend. He commands me to leave the blood behind and walks off with Sky. She wishes me luck, and tells me to be careful and stay safe.

I begin to make my way back to Suri, but don't get far when I hear something large moving. I quickly hide in a place I'd rather not - the valley strewn with Ryxix's corpse. Oh no! It's K'shaara!

A spray of meat pours from the piece of mangled corpse. He- he's alive?

"K'shaa.."

She approaches the corpse slowly, laying against it. I- is she crying?

The gorey remains twitch and gurgling, barely formed words issue from the mess

"I have failed you, darling," it bubbles, thick with it's own ichor, "he came to stop us... they wanted to keep us apart. I- I thought I could kill him. I-it was..."

"Ssh," she hisses, her voice thick with emotion, "This is all my fault, Xix. I should have been here. I should have told you about Marvels. This- this never should have..."

"I almost..." a thick stream of gore issues from some mangled part of his remains, "I cannot heal. Zorsuz uses cursed magic. I..."

"Quiet, now. Sssh." she sobs. "Just... imagine the sun. Imagine us standing under the bright, hot sun. It is day and we are together, moving through the dry sand. We are spending all day together, just wasting it with idle chatter. Imagine..."[/i]

"I. I can see... the sun..."

she lays against him, her body shaking. I quietly slip away.

Awesome as it would be to have snaketits owe Glory one for saving her beloved centipede, especially after that awkward eaten alive thing, I'm thinking there isn't much Glory could do even if K'shaara let her suck on an artery. Ryxix was crazed and malevolent anyway.

How about no. Because of a few reasons. Like for instance that's not K'shaara's blood, so the effect might not be the same. The crazy bitch already ate Glory once, we should probably not giver her another chance to do so. It's unlikely that we would actually be able to get it to work. And lastly, Ryxix is a violent crazy psychopath, and the world is a better place without him. Seriously, he's up among the top of wizards that should not be allowed to run free. Blood and infection dribble from Holizen's mouth. She's been getting far worse since they took off. Spikesby and Ria seem fine, though.

This is likely Marv's ace in the hole. Probably a device powered by souls designed to nuke the progenitors at the right time (after all wizards are dead) so that he could become the only magical being left in the world, and therefore supreme ruler of everything.

Or it could be something related to the wall of the Sea of Oblivion, and destroying it could cause the wall to collapse.

Either way, I suggest waiting for Blacksoul. Doing anything to it without proper knowledge is asking for bad end.

Spikesby goes to try and get Blacksoul.

He doesn't have long to wait. Ria and Sky arrive, Blacksoul in tow.

Blacksoul glances down at him, then shakes his head slowly in surprise, but says nothing.

He orders Sky to clean Spikesby's blades thoroughly and retrieve any more Antithesis he has, and she does so.

They descend to the device.

Blacksoul glances at Childless Meg, and then at the machine. "Leave her for now," he whispers.

They stand in the silent cavern as Blacksoul inspects the machine. After a long, nervous interval, he reaches out and grasps the energy emanating from it.

"Marvels was far more insidious than I ever expected, and his schemes far more vile.

Everything that has happened leading up to the formation of the Sea was a direct result of his machinations.

Magic pervades this world. It emanates into the air from the Wizards, who contain all of the magic in the world. This device was created in an earlier form before the Wizard's war began. Whenever a Wizard is killed, the energy was stored in this device instead of returning in the Ascendancy of a mortal to Wizardhood.

Marvels was slick and sociable. I believe he engineered the Wizard's War to create death on a massive scale and so store a vast quantity of the power.

Either his original device failed, or he tried to access the power and Flare, Soulfire, and Flails Breaker Ascended instead. The power cannot be accessed directly while any Wizard remains alive.

I do not believe he intended the Sea to form. Magic filled the world like air in a hard container underwater. When he removed the magic from the world, the container began to fracture when the pressure was too great, and the 'water' in our analogy, the Antithesis, began to leak in.

I suspect that his plan was to have us all destroy one another. Perhaps he thought his weapons could be used to kill the survivors, and then activate his machine, Ascending to the full power of all Wizards - becoming immortal and unstoppable.

Once the Magic was released, the 'air' would fill the world again, and the Antithesis would be pushed back from whence it came.

You, snikt, have saved us all. I will untangle these energies and release Magic back into the world. Wizards will once again begin to ascend, and things will return to as they were before the War.

You have saved everyone from this nightmare of a world, and from the Sea of Oblivion. If there is any boon I can bestow on you, name it."

He thought he was doing the right thing. I think he saw how completely horrible life was for the non-wizards, and planned to do away with the entire system by either sealing magic away or by spreading it to all creatures equally.

Clearly, you should go the sunshine and happiness route and ask him to set aside an area where wizards aren't allowed to use their powers, or institute penalty-of-death laws for treatment of non-wizards, or try to spread the magic out so much that wizards aren't so able to torment others, or etc...

Spikesby makes his request...

In the immediate aftermath of the Wall breaching, territories near the edge of the sea suffered great damage and loss of life.

Blacksoul's tower was utterly destroyed.

But the victory was short lived. Magic returned to the world, and with it, the Sea began to recede.

Those progenitors and their creatures who ventured outside became nothing but ephemeral smoke, and over the years the land was slowly reclaimed.

Unfortunately, there was nothing that could be done for those living inside. Their bodies had become permanently twisted by the Antithesis, and only those who had only been in the Sea for a brief period could be saved.

It was up to those living on the peninsula to slowly repopulate the world.

The remaining Wizards convened, putting a system in place to return the world to some state of normalcy. As before, the Wizards would each apprentice those who Ascended, teaching them to use their powers reasonably.

All Magical Creatures were released, either dieing or becoming a mortal species. The Wizards also released their Adepts - they were dangerous and unnecessary with the coming of new Ascendant Wizards.

Flails Breaker, having no memory of a time before the Wizard's War, refused to cooperate. He abandoned his territory and ventured into the Sea before it had receded too far.

With a massive, bare continent, it wasn't an issue at the time. Those who remained had better things to do than hunt him down.

Glory returned to Suri, but found no trace of Heartsbane.

Several decades after her Ascension a lone, crippled Gour found his way to her tower in what had once been the Desert of Ruin, still wearing one of the masks that his kind had forsaken ages ago.

He knew her as soon as he saw her, although her body and mind had changed. He would often speak to people she could not see, and refer to her by her pre-Ascension name. She did not know why, but she took him in and cared for him, something stirring at the back of her mind, even though all memory of her past life was gone.

He no longer cursed Fate, and laughed with genuine glee when she brought him to the top of her Carapace Tower.

His body and mind continued to fail. She would spend days just sitting in the sunlight, holding him in her arms. As he died in her arms, memories of her mortal life flooded back and she promised him to never forget those moments of weakness and fear that all mortal creatures felt and do her best to be there when the darkness came.

(Spikesby never discovered that these vicious, intelligent, dangerous ambush predators were eventually exterminated by Isenore.)

He was given a place to live with his friends - a small, quiet place high in the mountains of what used to be Flare's territory.

He resisted the urge to get involved in politics or the affairs of Wizards. He had hands and a voice. He could taste and smell. He had so much to do that the other mortal creatures took for granted.
