Everything is a special sort of pleasant here. I cannot feel the cold currents that come from the cavemouth and make bones chill. There is no hazy smell of a fire burning far off, no pain, no rats nipping at my loose scales....

It's quite as well, I cannot hear |||||| in my head like I used to, I feel so very small without her presence. But the looming shadow is gone, I can be happy again! We can even go hunting like we once did, and kill and eat and play and......

my brother is not here, no one is here, only I am here. My mind, my body, wings tail spikes and all. I am a dragon onto my own, with my own head. There is me but I think I spoke to myself shortly ago. There has not been food, my stomach is here, but it is empty....

I can't keep my thoughts straight. ||||||| is not in my head, she keeps everything in order, when she's gone I get in knots circles tied up lines in the dirt.

Right... right. I can do this. I can HANDLE this. I'm awake, intact, and strong enough to take on the world!

I hope.

I worry at the bands along my wrists and wings first, the leather is thick and chewy. Gross. I manage to remove them with little incident. My hind legs are a bit more troublesome, there is a small thread of metal in the band, I can feel it biting under my thin scales there. I must remember to grow my scales thicker.

My head is still a bit fuzzy, but yes, the area around me smells like blood. It's not normal though, it's thick and heavy and acrid and oh-so-much like copper. I can hear scratchy steps echoing around the cave. Should... should I play dead? Will they leave me alone then? I.. I'm sure it's just brother getting back at me. there is no them or they, Just me and brother and MOTHER.

(Sorry for the quality drop, our power is out, laptop is fried, and I'm using a friends. His tablet is awesome and foreign to me.)

Gather up the bits of the binds in your jaws and carry them with you, so they don't know you've broken them. They'll think you're still bound. Then find a hiding spot from where you can look out over where you were, and where they probably will come from.

Perhaps I've gone mad. It certainly smells of MOTHER here, but it's not the same not the same not the same.

I feel like I should be more panicked, but I find myself feeling cool and in control (even thought I'm bound.) A Dragon knows no fear, only the wisdom of when to retreat. I shall use that now.

I pick up the torn binds in my jaws and carry them with me, no reason for them to know I'm loose, they might even forget I'm here in time! My hind legs are still hobbled, but my forelegs and wings are free to smash and claw and buff anyone who dares corner a Dragon!

I find a stalagmite and squeeze in behind there. Much better. I can hear them coming, chattering on to themselves. they are not Dragons.

My tail is ailing me, and I am sorely missing that big scale on the end....

I can squeeze a bit further up this crevice here if I hook my claws in. I was unaware we had such sneaky channels in our cave.

Those...things are almost under me, I bet I could take one of them out if I jumped. I'm not thinking this through... MOTHER would hunt them strategically, not just jump and cut and bite and claw.

they are not rats, they are tall I think, but it's pretty dark in this corner... oh, I think the taller one is talking....

You are right to do as MOTHER would. Hide, stalk, observe, and plan. Strike when it is most advantageous, don't when it isn't. Make that your way.

Once they're far enough away to not hear you climb down, get to the floor. Go to where they stood and take a big sniff of their scent. Follow that scent after them, while staying out of sight. Listen in your ears for others of their kind, and in your mind for MOTHER and brother.

I stay hooked into the upper wall for what seems like hours. I have time to think, time to process.... my mind is my own.

It's eerie and empty. I lack words MOTHER would fill in for me at the pass of a thought. I feel dumb and muted without her pressing into my head and brightening my every whim and momentary lapse of insight.

Eventually the cave falls silent. My legs are still and sore and angry to move, but I manage to scoot my way back down to the ground in time. I feel I'm in no rush at this point. Neither brother nor MOTHER are here by the lack of commotion and smell and force of presence. I don't wish to dwell on the thought of my abandonment.

brother cried, I had scared him... pushed him too far. He was younger than me and fragile, that is why MOTHER took him and left me. His cry was ear-piecing and terrible and she must know I hurt him. They left me here alone and those THINGS came and hurt my tail and my mind is empty and... and this cave is so very large with no one here....

You can find MOTHER, and with her brother. You know her scent better than any other scent you know. Find her scent and follow it before it fades, and you'll find her. But, you can not follow fast enough with bound legs. Even MOTHER's scent will be drowned out by the rest of the world quicker than you can follow it as you are now. You must free yourself.

Examine the binds around your legs. Those THINGS put them on, so there must be a way to take them off. A knot, or buckle of some sort. Try to undo it with your front paws. If that doesn't work, look around for a rock with a sharp edge you could use to saw through the binds. Preferably one embedded in the ground so you can use your stronger leg muscles to work the binds against it.

I deposit the broken leather bindings behind the pillar. They were growing soggy and bitter in my mouth, I can't think of a reason to bring them along. brother and I didn't come to this half of the cave very often, MOTHER warned against it as there are thin but deep waterways cutting across in a few places.

My claws click faintly on the ground as I trudge from here to where I know. I don't know here and that... it doesn't scare me, I need to stop trying to scare myself. I'm alright if I keep moving, no one is... here, just me.

The Big Shelf is up ahead, and The Mouth to The Outside is not even ten lengths past that. I'll go outside, I'll listen to MOTHER and avoid the sun, I'll be a good dragon. A good dragon like she wanted.

I want to get out. Out into the world as a REAL dragon, not some little hatchling who couldn't even keep her MOTHER pleased. I suppose I will have to go alone, why would any others bother to help me along after they find out what a vicious and cruel hearted beast I am?

Oh well, I suppose Dragons are MEANT to be alone once they grow. The way MOTHER thought about them.... there must be hundreds, if not thousands roaming in the upper world. All vying for a cave like this. If they've gone I must as well to free if up for a more deserving dragon.

The trip goes faster if I think about things besides my feet. The bands are chafing the scales off my hindlegs, and I do not care for it. I can see the shelf from here, and the air is all wrong in this chamber. Thick and smokey and angry and red and iron.... My stomach twists and tightens at the scent.

I can almost make out a large mass on the shelf. The color is wrong though, it's not MOTHER.

I suppose the only way to go is up!

This task, of course, would be much easier if my wings were developed. I can hop and glide, but upright flight isn't one of my many skills just yet.

Bile rises into my tightened throat. The acrid smell hits me like a shelf, pouring and falling and guarding the top half of the shelf. I gag, but manage to keep my stomach under modest control. MOTHER would always lift brother and I back up here by her tail, I never realized how much effort she put into it. Such a sheer cliff she managed for her darling hatchlings.

This banded piece of stuff is almost the same as the bits on my legs, as well as the ones that bound my wings and forelimbs not long ago. It smells slimy with a hint of fleshyness. I could probably chew through it if I had to.

I'm almost at the top now, eyes watering at the overpowering aroma. I clamp my nostrils shut the best I can and press on.

This is food, I think.... The smell is horrid.

My jaw fights me as I try to take a small bite. If I'm going to be my own Dragon, I have to be able to eat, no exceptions. The air around my meal is thick and heavy and sluggish and burnt copper. My stomach rolls and twists, throat tightening.

I can't, it's meat, but it isn't something a Dragon is suppose to eat, things for eating are always welcome in the stomach, this is bad meat. Very bad meat. I stumble to the edge of the shelf, chest heaving, and empty the meager contents of my already shaking insides.

I can't stay. Bad Dragons don't deserve this cave. A bad dragon in a bad cave with bad meat. I have displeased something greater than myself, scared off MOTHER and brother in my aggression towards him....

I don't think I did anything wrong though... he was hungry and I couldn't coddle him, he would never learn! Such as slow thing as him would die off his first day in the light if I handed everything to him. I was being responsible. I was being good. Yet here I am alone, abandoned, hungry....

I can see the Cavemouth from here, the barest of fresh breezes blowing into it, washing away the smell of hate and death and everything-wrong. It looks dark enough, The Sun must be away.

Check that nothing is broken. Hold still, and extend your limbs, one at a time, starting with your arms, then legs, followed by your wings, then tail.
