In the year 1095, in the land of Edessa, a sudden plague of monsters and demons spread throughout the landscape, preying on human travelers and towns relentlessly.

Heeding the calls of the people, the leaders of Edessa decided to construct an army to battle the creatures, and protect various settlements.

However, Edessa was no powerful military kingdom, and their armies, which consisted of no real soldiers, quickly fell apart.

Leaders panicked as the demons and monsters became more ambitious, creating settlements of their own in areas, and sometimes even taking over, wiping out the human population entirely while cutting off trade, doing damage to the already fragile economy of Edessa. This began to split up and break apart the kingdom into monster dominant territories, human dominant territories, and neutral territories.

Left with no other choice, Edessian leaders pleaded with the Church of God, a religious faction from a faraway land, that was known to do battle with creatures of darkness. The church accepted their plea, promising to send a small army to scout and summarize the extent of the foul creatures influence over the land, and exterminate them if possible, while relaying information back to the Church.

An army of a few thousand men were distributed among the territories of the kingdom that were supposedly infested. Their mission was to slay as many beasts as they could, and return to the leaders of the Church in the city of Adam if they were overwhelmed. The Church of God, grossly underestimated the demonic, and monstrous invasion in the land of Edessa. Their crusaders were bound for a terrible shock. This is the story of one such crusader.

you have your job solder, don't fall to these foul beast. You are the hope of the people, you are what will let the innocent sleep peacefully at night without fear of these demons slipping into their homes at night and ending the lives of not only themselves but the lives of those they love. Stand your ground solder, and with god at your side slay these monsters so they will never harm another innocent again.

You're back is to a cliff so they can't get behind you. I say wait and let them make the first move, go for quick slashes and thrust to push them back without opening yourself to a counter attack.

But if all else fails, if it truly looks like this is only going to end with you dying, try and grab one and jump off the cliff using their body as a cushion. Hey it's not the fall that kills you, it's the sudden stop at the bottom.

Ouch.

Alright, the wound might bleed out faster if you take the sword out, but it's pinned to the girl. Shouting for help will likely attract the other two wolf girls; that would hurt over ten times more.

Before you pull the sword out, formulate a plan: where's the nearest town, and what do you see around you that can be used as a makeshift bandage?

Also, be sure to chop her head off. She'll likely kill you if you don't make sure she's dead and not gravely wounded.

Removing the sword from the wound might be a worse idea than leaving it in until we're ready to bandage up the wounds tightly: Right now it's blocking the blood from leaking out a fair bit. Get out your bandages, soldier, everybody who is equipped for battle has gauze and painkillers handy. If you're going to pretend your people are such idiots that they don't come to battle prepared for INEVITABLE casualties, then go ahead and cut up your clothes to use as bandages like a pervert, but it would really improve your odds of survival if you used your bandages instead.

This is the worst murder/suicide cliff I have ever seen. Is the cliff just not as tall as we thought. Since the fall is apparently survivable her friends should be here soon to save her life and capture you. You could probably pull the sword so you two can bleed out before they make it. In about forty years, the population boom could cause a drain on resources. Once demands for basic needs like food, land, and the right to breathe air can no longer be met, the slaughter will begin. Blinded by fervor and apathy alike, the people will begin war that has a significant chance of decimating the remaining resources and their generators.

So basically you plan on increasing your populations but without the resources or strategy you're literally @#$%ing the world up.

KEEP HEADBUTTING!!!

She reels back a bit.

"You basically you intend to increase your population, but without the resources or strategy, you're DAMNING THE WORLD!"

She stares at me, in thought. I don't think she actually expected an answer like that.

"So.." she starts, "If.. If we keep mating.. our offspring will have a really bad time.. Ah!" She winces, her movements disturbing the sword still lodged through us.

"Yes."

I begin to remove the blade from my own body. It feels bad. I immediately feel blood rush to and from the now open wound, I cough and lurch forward, my arm jerking the sword further than I intended.

....Very well. I will return to the capital as soon as possible, and inform Sir Nidas the III of these events..

She lifts me up, removing the clothing around my wound.. I am too weak to fight back. Too weak to care..

An aura of light begins to waft from her hands as she holds them above my wound.. It tingles, as though there are several icy needles dancing on my flesh. I look up, seeing that she hasn't tended to her own wound, though it is bleeding as well.

She looks very upset. Strange. One would believe a demon would revel in the news that humankind was suffering. I try to sit up. I still cannot.

"Don't move yet! You're gonna hurt yourself more! You're going to have to sleep, okay?"

"In the woods? Prey for the creatures that stalk the night?" I respond, sharply.

"N-No! I could find a.. a cave or shelter or something! Lemme do it!"

She shouts incessantly, as though I have a choice.

"I think there's a cave around here somewhere.. and a road.. and- and a river! Umm.." She turns this way and that, pointing in multiple directions, flustered.

She's acting dramatically different. Less sure of herself. More immature. I could suggest a place for her to bring me.. The road, a cave, or the river.. Which one?
>>
No. 647084 ID: 6868bc

The way she's acting is consistent with someone who hasn't actually thought through the actions of her people. There are two possibilities, as I see it:

1. She really is as clueless in all this as she claims to be, or
2. She is feigning ignorance, and healed you for some diabolical purpose that could not be achieved by letting you die.

I recommend you assume 1, as she appears to be nonviolent, and use the opportunity to find out more about how demons work. Such as, why did she... shrink? What is her peoples' stated goal in invading the land? Are her abilities native to all her kind, or can they be learned by anyone? Spend time with her, and look out for signs of possibility 2. If she really is relatively innocent in all this, it might be possible to inspire her and others to defect from their side.

Also, cave.

This area is being or has been overrun. You're much more likely to encounter demons on the road than people.
You're in no condition to build a shelter and the river offers you no protection, but you need water to survive. Even more so after being injured.
The cave is your best bet for avoiding ambush, but you need a source of drinkable water.

If you have a waterskin then the cave. Otherwise the river.

The demons store magic in their breasts? Fortunate that you chose the largest of them.

Hmm. I wonder who makes them grow? From whence do they harvest this power?

>distressed at your words
Even if the demons are more intelligent than beasts, they live as beasts. No education, no teaching of the church. They could not possibly understand what they do.

Maybe indoctrination could stem the tide?

>acting less sure of herself
It could just be she's unsure after you thoroughly upended her heretic worldview. Or perhaps expending her power weakened her mind- the weaker a demon, the more like a simple beast it becomes.

>where go
The biggest problem with a natural cave is wildlife tends to have moved in long before you do.

Wouldn't really want to run into a bear while injured. Although the demon might be more than a match for one.

There are probably demons all over the roads. (Although if we're captured, that might mean better medical care, and sooner spread of the ideas we planted. Then again, we haven't had much time to indoctrinate her. The other demons might still be able to quash the doubt we planted ). The river would be a source of water, but not shelter, unless we're lucky enough to find a building, or we build one.

Fire's easy. It's such a basic part of survival that every soldier is expected to carry a firestarter of some kind on themselves, even into battle.
There's a forest right outside, so wood and kindling for a small fire should be easy as well. The problem is going to be butchering the carcass, which is a skill Konuma likely never acquired, and which Derek is too weak to accomplish.

A short while later, I've instructed Konu, and we have taken the deer apart after Konu retrieved my blade for me from the forest. We sit around a fire and eat.. She.. She eats a lot. Like, a lot.

>If you bring her back for ANY reason, will they harm her?
>Not to say you're worried for her survival, but she'll be of no help dead.

Well.. Ideally, if we capture heretics alive or enslave them, they are often kept alive for some time.. Demons however, we usually do not capture. As far as I know, it is best to kill them as soon as they are sighted.. But some, more powerful knights are known to keep them, as slaves or to train against.. I do not know if I could possibly capture her, to be honest. Given all of my strength, I still cannot match up to the demon's power.

>You might be able to use your education to gain sway among the wolves, and turn them against the other demons. They seem to require living humans in order to reproduce, so they have a vested interest in humans not dying.
>Turn the nuisance against the threat, and you can change the course of the war.

Hmm.. That is a viable sounding strategy.. But to convince the others.. my commanders to work and cooperate with any kind of demon would most certainly be difficult..

"I get the heart!" Konu proclaims, shaking me from my thoughts.

"Very well.." She seems to be getting most of the internal organs, actually. I am fine with that.

"Shay.." She starts, slurping up some bit of rubbery looking meat. "Do you think my friends will spot this fire? I'm sure they'd get along with you.. We should go find them! Once you're feeling better. They'd like to hear what you have to say too.. probably."

Well first as humans have very large packs living together in one place with people focusing on particular tasks it means we have pack leaders that just lead a group in a particular set of tasks in a community and another for another set of people and their tasks. Otherwise the leader would have to much to watch over effectively.

Then we have overal community pack leader that controles the other smaller task orientated leaders or anyone that does thing against the overall functioning of the community.

Then God is pretty much the pack leader of all of humanities communities keeping them in check to be productive and work together and not to do anything against the overall fuctioning of humanity.

Pfft, it's not as bad as you think. You can get out of this mess by explaining exactly what happened, if somebody is willing to listen.

The following is completely true:
Your squad was set upon and routed. You were separated from the others, and tried to fight to the death.
You were horribly wounded, and in your weakened state you were taken prisoner. Apparently, the wolf demons have some form of healing magic.
You couldn't escape or slay the demon because it beat you at your best, and now you lack the strength to even lift your sword.
Having no other options, you decided to try and convert the demon. It seemed to be going well.

See? It's not even misrepresenting what happened.
Now, while you're waiting for somebody to come and demand answers you should continue telling Konu about God, and going over the teachings.
If she likes it, great. If somebody notices you're trying to proselytize and are probably not actually a heretic, also great. If somebody tells you to shut up, counter that it's your duty and only a heretic would stop somebody from teaching God's word.

Having no other options, I decided to attempt to convert the demon. It seemed to be going well. May I ask your name, sir. And perhaps you would permit me to send a report to my commander?"

I tell the truth. It is my best bet.

"So.."

"Your squad was defeated, and you fled. After being unable to escape, you decided to fight in desperation, but lost and were captured by the enemy. You then took part in the demon's black magic in order to heal your wounds, then stayed with the demon, hindered by your wounds from the defeat before. So you chose to consort with the demon, and discuss the Lord with it. I wonder,"

He at last steps from the darkness, revealing his rather black armor. "How much did you tell it of our ways, heretic? How much did you divulge about our people? Our defenses? Our armor and weapons?" He raises his blade to my throat. "Despicable coward. You are no better than the lowest of demons, and you shall be dealt with the very same. This is unexpected. "Yes. I.."

He shoots back up, "HORRIS! WHERE ARE THE KEYS TO THESE CUFFS?! THERE HAS BEEN A MISUNDERSTANDING!"

The fellow that ambushed us earlier runs forward at the sound of his leader's call. "A-A misunderstanding? But sir! He was consorting with the beast! I saw it clear as day!"

As odd as this will sound to you, have her saved. Discuss how she has provided sacred hospitality as per the rites of your God and that if you did not provide the same you would be disgracing yourself and the Order.

And that you were attempting something drastic as a result. You can discuss that these demons do not even know of your God and that their heresy could potentially be stamped out by proper teachings. And would that not be the greatest gift to provide new beings direction towards the lord? As well as spitting in the face of evil demons by having their own brethren challenging them, not in the name of their own heretical nature but in God's name?

If you fear her ability to seduce, provide for her a chastity belt. You are pure, though as you've noticed amongst your weaker friends they had been seduced so easily.

We need her alive and well for training purposes so that fresh recruits going into battle know what they are up against: From what I could see all but myself from our unit disgraced themselves by willingly lying with, or failing to successfully resist, their advances. Surely that is simple and uncontroversial. I grant that the hardest parts of that choice are in the future, such as figuring out where to take her, how to get her there without problems, and how to secure her cooperation without damning men's souls, but this is a valuable opportunity to prevent such losses in the future."

Explain in full detail that the Wolf Clan and other low-level clans are being used by the other demon factions as shock troopers, cannon fodder meant to die in humiliating ways so that Edessa grossly underestimates the more serious demon clans. As one of their veterans, Konu should be able to turn some of the demons against each other, thereby decreasing casualties. To execute her and continue fighting these joke soldiers, leaving them horribly unprepared against the true army, would be equivalent to allowing civilians and entire regiments to die needlessly in the name of honor.

Ask him if he cares about the lives of civilians, if only so that they might raise the standard of living in his country.

"I just couldn't be with a man like you.. We can still be friends though! I enjoy your company, I just don't feel that way about you.. Let's just be friends for now, okay? Friend?"

Did.. Did my proposal just get rejected? Wait! I didn't even propose! I got rejected without even trying!! It wasn't even real but... That felt.. surprisingly bad.

"Anyway we can go find your friends still! I could help you with that at least! Maybe we'll find my pack on the way! Huh, buddy?"

Don't, she's obviously a pervert finding the whole slave idea unexpectedly thrilling--for now.

We should correct the knight by telling him our comrades were defeated and raped by the demons, and did not put up enough struggle to be worth retrieving even if they were not damned by their shameful defeat.
We also obviously need to train harder and join or gather a new force that isn't so easily defeated. So, to the west, send letters to our family informing them of events, update our logs/diaries, we have discovered how badly we need to train more. Did I mention training yet? We're too weak, slow and unskilled to fight against a single wolf-demon so we obviously need to improve our strength, skill, speed and stamina.

"Your name was Derek, right? I could be your enslaved if you want~"

"I wanna be a slave!"

"Why does Konu always get the best men, dammit?!"

...I hate demons. And heretics. I hate heretics too.

I don't think condoms exist in the time of 1095.

If you make it clear it's not a sex thing, the wolves will turn against you.

I think you should tell them you only have one set of shackles so you can only keep one slave. Tell them that you would appreciate it if they stayed out of the way while you executed the heretic. They're done with him, right?

yeah, have them out of the way and tell fred here that you have not sullied yourself. you grabbed her and lept from the cliff and in attempt at deadly suicide. but demons are tough shit.

You might want to upgrade your helmet with padded reinforcements, because

headbutt

Tell Fredrick that you're in charge. Unless he'd like to be bashed into unconsciousness and chained for the wolves' mercy?

Ask about the other squad members. Your basic plan is to gather as many survivors as possible, rally as many wandering demon clans as possible to rebel against the demon nobles, and retreat straight to the capital or any other fortified settlement.

Commanding a demon army is not something we can or should do if we do not want to burn as a heretic. What would be worthwhile to attempt is encouraging heretics and demons to conflict with other heretics and demons: Tell the heretic that he has an opportunity to earn himself the gratitude of these wolf demons and grudging respect from the crusaders. If he can manage to organize wolf demons to raid and assault the other kinds which would exterminate humans he ought to be valuable to them and possibly may earn himself mercy in the afterlife.
Our current plan to raise or join a new force once we're done training to be effective at combat against wolf demons (current benchmark for minimum combat effectiveness) also has holes in it. We need more information or else we're likely going to stumble into a different encounter we are unprepared for as well. Consider the matter of how to get that.

No Fredrick, I did not fornicate with the beast, not once and she can attest to that. I had and still have no interest in doing anything heretical with a demon...
That includes all of you. Get off of me.

Something to ponder- could you do more good if you brought this pack to heel? That which cannot be defeated could be suborned or turned aside.

Calmly ask Fredick what has become of the rest of your group.

"I'm afraid I have only one set of shackles, demons. Alas. Konu, would you take your friends away for a moment and catch up while I.. speak with Fredrick in private." I decide not to divulge my full intent.. For I am unsure of what I intend, actually..

Konu obliges, happily. She steps into the forest with her pack, giggling all the way. I am left alone with Fredrick.

"Fredrick. I have not sullied myself. I grabbed her, and leaped from the cliff in an attempt at a deadly suicide.. but demons are neigh indestructible."

"Wha- Liar! That's not true! Don't attempt to deceive me, Derek! I know your type! Riding on your family's name and doing nothing to prove yourself! You make me sick!"

>Fredrick, fate is making it pretty clear you are in the wrong here. No, I have not mated with her . As much as she pesters for it, I probably wont. Because we're not allowed to wear condoms or something.

"Fredrick. Fate is making it clear that you are in the wrong here. I have not slept with her. As much as she persists and pesters. I will never." I do not know what condoms are. I assume they're some sort of anti-demon device.

"Whatever! You city living, self righteous bastards are all the same! You talk and you talk, preaching about heresy, but in the end you all show your true selves. Your brother is a prat bastard, and so are you! Just like that bastard father of yours.." He spits the last words, full of disdain.

"What do you intend to do about my sleeping with those temptresses, Derek? A wounded man like yourself is hardly a match for me at full strength. I could cut you down in an instant!"

I strongly consider headbutting Fredrick.

>Ask about the other squad members.

"Fredrick. Tell me you at least know the fate of our fellows. I intend to reunite with them once more."

He stays quiet for a long while before answering. "Michael informed me that the group was heading west. To the town of Lipton."

>Tell the heretic that he has an opportunity to earn himself the gratitude of these wolf demons and grudging respect from the crusaders. If he can manage to organize wolf demons to raid and assault the other kinds which would exterminate humans he ought to be valuable to them and possibly may earn himself mercy in the afterlife.

"Fredrick. You have an opportunity to earn yourself the gratitude of these wolf demons and grudging respect from your former fellows. If you can manage to convince some of these demons to revolt against the commanding demons, who exterminate humankind, you may be valuable to them once more. And earn yourself mercy in the afterlife."

He eyes me with disdain. "Turn them against eachother? Ha. They're all demons, Derek. It seems I truly am not the only one who has been corrupted by their wiles. Did you really not lay with that girl, Derek? Are you afraid of sex? You're a haughty fool, Derek."

"And you are a heretic, Fredrick."

He steps inside the tent. "I am leaving, Derek. If you wish to continue licking at the boots of your masters as the church you may do so, but I am done. Unless of course.. you intend to stop me."

Lipton it is.

"I won't stop you from licking demon [[cats]] instead. Just do your part to incite civil war, before the lesser demon clans fully invade just in time for the biding demon lords to stomp on humans and lesser demons alike.

You don't want me here? Fine, I'm going home. Here's the keys to Konu's shackles. Do NOT follow me."

Stop you? You have already stopped yourself.

Leave my sight if you will. Perhaps you can yet find redemption. But should you raise your hand against the holy cause you have forsaken, know you will be cut down.

I do not fear death in battle. Do you?

>Turn them again each other? Ha.
I think it's time to tell the pack the things you told Konu, before. Watch the heretic stare in disbelieve and confusion as you make the demons question themselves.

Your only chance of killing him is a surprise attack... unless he lost his sword somehow. Then you would just have to keep from getting grabbed.

Go look in the tent. If he has no equipment, consider running him through. From what you know of the wolf demons, they have no attachment to most people. They probably won't care.

If you kill him then the wolf demons will most likely ALL follow you. As much of a bastard as he is, and as much as I'd like to run him through for insulting your family, you're better off letting him walk away.
The inquisition camped a short walk away, and they barely missed each other as is. He's careless and overconfident; he's not going to survive long in these contested lands.

However, when you eventually file your report mention that he turned against your squad and readily joined the demons.

"Derek." One of them starts. I notice the lot of them look extremely displeased! I begin to grow nervous. "Is it true.."
