You awaken in a pitch black room

You can stand
You can smell
You can feel

But you can only do one. Choose.

hrrm...I vote smell.
to stand is to be able to act, but to move in a dark room blindly is unwise.
To feel, is to be able to slowly make your way, and learn your environment...As it was when you felt through it last, and will not equip us to deal with active elements.
To smell, is to be able to react to things as they happen, instead of having to examine before being able to take informed action.

Stand, it might not be the wisest thing to do, but I'd like to start this as a man of action. Besides, we probably won't die on the first prompt. Failing that, feel.

While not the most popular option; the mind doesn't have time for anything but survival. It's the last thought on your mind.

You stand. You are tough. Legendarily so.

Your arms hang limply by your sides. Your feet grind against themselves as stumbles and steps are taken. Your nose is clogged. Your ears are torn away. Your vision is all but impaired.

It's the result of what could have likely been a fight.

There is a crank nearby. There is a door.

Moving and manipulating either of these things with your broken body is excruciating. But you can do one, without passing out again.

You can barely make it out in the darkness, but there is a crank indeed. It's simply made, perhaps even rigged together and appears to be attached into the wall.

Manipulating it with your broken body is just as excruciating as you had expected.

Lights begin snapping down row by row in the long ruined hallway. A monitor flickers and crackles to life, starting up. You are in what appears to be an old bunker-like structure.

The monitor is what captures your attention most profoundly, as if it draws in your very presence. Perhaps it is a part of you.

>LOADING...

>CYCLE 2910

The screen beeps out each of the letters as it displays them before going totally blank, flickering again as it starts up. Options come forwards.

Rather...option. The other in the list appear to be corrupted by something.

>1. INFORMATION AND QUERIES

This terminal appears like a good place to start if you want to learn about your surroundings, or yourself. Other information might be corrupt though.

Of course there is always the door: Safe as it feels, the bunker doesn't have anywhere else to hide in. If whatever happened comes again...

Using the monitor seems to be a fairly simple task. All you have to really do is speak into it. The words come easy enough even with broken bones.

>Where am I?

Like before, the monitor beeps out each of the letters.

-LOCATION 285. BUNKER C. LOCATION OVERRUN: CONSULT MANUAL AND EVACUATE.-

>Where is the nearest hospital?

The text autocorrects to 'medical facility'. Perhaps it has a different vocabulary, or maybe this is the right term.

-NO OPERATIONS AVAILABLE. FACILITIES SHUT DOWN DUE TO INFESTATION. PLEASE SEEK OTHER OPTIONS.-

Judging from this: Things aren't going well.

>What caused my injuries.

-ASSESSING...HUMAN. BLUNT FORCE. SUBJECT DEAD-

The machine may just be advanced, or it is sentient to some degree. Odd.

>Help.

Suddenly the screen flickers wildly and the machine beeps loudly, deafeningly so. Something has gone wrong.

GOD IS BINARY.

And just as suddenly it returns to normal. A message perhaps.

The other commands don't respond.

>Playback video.

Once again the screen glitches out and goes black for a few moments.

It opens to a scene. The sight of some slimy and terrifying dog-like creature appearing to feast on the body of a dead man. He's nothing but bones.

The only problem is that the bones are melting too, all of it into some kind of black slurry.

As time passes, the slurry itself begins to move and slip away into the cracks of the ground as if it is alive.

You don't want that to happen to you. Searching the bunker might yield finding that thing.

Suddenly whatever feed cuts out and the face of...something appears.

It's vaguely canine if looks can tell. It has many eyes.

A deep feminine voice speaks, throaty and full.

>"You don't belong here. Rather, you're not meant to be alive."

Uh oh.

You could probably talk back to the beast, try and question it. Maybe you'd learn something good about yourself or it. But that also wastes even more time and whatever is in the bunker with you might become a problem.

The door is the other option. Getting out is always a good idea, but from the sounds of things it is pretty desperate out there.

>The machine may just be advanced, or it is sentient to some degree.
I'm going to go with the former, being good at interpreting language and having the ability to interpret video/audio/whatever else this thing has access to does not imply metacognition.

>GOD IS BINARY.
This could be the computer saying that the binary form of code is its god and its trying to help us by converting us, but that would be a bit like worshiping DNA, which is odd to say the least. The more likely explanation in my mind is that there is some entity in this place that is considered to be god, and that it has two forms/sides/personalities.

>>774821
I don't think that the beast is causing the man to dissolve, external digestion doesn't typically cause the part that's being digested to come alive and move away from the thing doing the digestion. It could be how the thing reproduces, but that just seems far-fetched.

>>774822
>"You don't belong here. Rather, you're not meant to be alive."
"Well, I apologize for that, I didn't choose to be, but now that I am I'd rather not die. I'd be quite happy to leave this place immediately if I knew where the exit was. If secrecy is your concern I'm willing to blindfolded myself and leave without knowing anything about this place other than the fact that it exists. If you have some form of transportation that'd be even better, you could just drop me off somewhere and I wouldn't even know where this is."
I don't expect any of this to work, but we should at least try the diplomatic approach.

It gives you an opportunity to see the terrifying maw, constructed directly from the head itself. It's like a wildly, yet oddly perfect crack in a pane of glass, carefully constructed to be the way it was.

That was pretty cheesy. It appears to have had an effect on the threatening visage though.

The feed suddenly cuts off and the machine begins to shake violently, black goo pouring from underneath the monitor and forming into...something. The beast on the playback is a good approximation.

It isn't even half built from the slurry on the ground as the entire mass 'leaps' at you with what it had made of some terrifying doggish mouth. The rest of it is still struggling to properly build up.

Regardless, the body continues forwards with a desire to simply consume you.

Moving is an excellent option and doing just that seems to avoid the struggling predator well enough for now.

No telling how long it will take for it to properly form though.

Going outside it seems the ground is bare, the sky is clear, mist floats across the way and in the distance there are several ruins and a tall broken structure.

Finding supplies or even just a place to look for this 'exit' might be a good idea.

Time to designate your priorities. Hunger and thirst don't seem to be an issue, even with your broken form.

Immediate priority is not getting killed (further?) by the predator forming behind you. You need defensible terrain, or a place to hide, or to go someplace it can't follow.

After immediate survival comes longer term survival. Your body is broken and at a disadvantage, anything you can do to treat that helps you.

Learning your past, what the hell is going on, etc, has to rank lower than long or short term survival.

Romancing the blushing alien monster is probably a higher priority than getting answers (or even survival), but you're likely going to need to do some answer gathering and surviving before that becomes an option.

I'm rather strange, like a beast, or some kind of strange futuristic hero.

I'm made out of a strange, but thick organic metal. It's fragmented, cracked and breaking in many places. From what I can see, it is fused with my flesh. Blood and bone glisten where there is none. Perhaps this is my 'skin'.

Among the rubble, rocks, broken fences and pieces of wood there appears to be a glitter.

It's a sword, and although it is broken at the middle and scuffed with dirt, the edge seems sharp enough to slice clean through flesh, and perhaps through the beasts that inhabit this wasteland. But I don't have any limbs.

Maybe I'll just shove it into my arm.

Doing so takes some effort, and plenty of pain. It aches through my bones once the deed is done. There is blood all over the ground, flesh torn further. I'm shaking from the sheer effort put in. But it seems to attach and stay in place.

Hopefully that does it for my defense.

Seems like a good plan, I just keep moving forwards. It'd totally avoid that slowly forming thing not too far behind us.

Going further into the depths of the wasteland ends us up inside of the tall, barely standing skyscraper. Everything seems uninhabited, shelter and otherwise is scarce and these beasts litter the landscape.

All of them wander aimlessly, and stare into the sun. They do not blink.

>Examine the sun

It's black. Light still casts from around it's shape, but it seems to be so much weaker than what might come from the regular sun. What is strange is how these creatures seem to stare at it, and wander. They stumble, fall, trip, but never seem to stop staring with shrunken and strange eyes as if they are constantly trying to reach it. Haunting.

The sun shines brightly in the cloudless sky, through the mists.

But it is black, and provides no heat from what I can tell. If anything, this world might be below freezing, but isn't.

Every beast stares at it. One or two fall from the tower around us and slam into the ground, destroying themselves. Though they reform after some long moments like the one in the bunker.

Mouths hang open, teeth remain on display, eyes shrunken and strange. They are heedless of anything else.

It's almost like they are following it, or trying to bring themselves closer to the shape.

What is alarming is how hard it is to stop looking at it. It's beautiful...

As of right now, I am inside of the skyscraper. It barely stands and occasionally creaks. From time to time there are thumps and small streams of dusty rubble falling from the ceiling, possibly from more of the beasts falling.
I could search inside of the building, or try to sneak by the beasts and find a place more obviously valuable.

>Search the building.

'Tetron' runs this place. It doesn't mean anything to me.

Entering into the building's insides isn't much of a problem. Doors are torn from their hinges, security features broken down and rusted metal. A painful kick could dislodge any locked entrance.

From where I have entered, this looks like some kind of meeting room. Broken tables, missing chairs, blood.

Perhaps this place had experienced an old conflict at some point that didn't go well. Might explain a few things.

There is a cabinet over there

>Supplies, healing, and a good view.

Searching the cabinet and a few other select corners and places, I've found myself a note and a small syringe of yellow fluid.

Inside of the cabinet appears to be a syringe of strange yellow fluid. Someone must have left it here for safe-keeping, or was it some kind of emergency?

Whatever the case, it's full, but I'm not sure what the fluid could do. Surely the effects couldn't be that bad considering all of my bones are broken.

From one of the corners is an old note. However it is worn, torn, and contains small bits of information. It'd take me a little while to piece together anything from the faded writing. Perhaps it's better off left on the ground.

In terms of a view, not to far outside of the broken door is a long dilapidated escalator upstairs. It isn't functioning, but it could lead me up high enough to get a decent view of the land around.

How are you even going to use that syringe with no hands? Whatever the case, take the drug somehow then grab the note for future reading. We gotta keep moving, and get as far away from the goo monster as possible.

It could be poison. I don't know why someone would leave poison in a filing cabinet, but there's not much around here that makes sense. It could also be a sedative or a hallucinogenic or any number of other things none of which would be useful to us without knowing about them beforehand. Find some way to keep it on our person without using it for now.

Try using the wallpaper to stop the bleeding.

>Use the wallpaper

Considering the many years that the material has been 'curing' through weather and wear, it's become like a material. The paint layered on it has probably soaked in.

In either case, it's a perfect makeshift bandage and through some effort of mine, wrapping it around the bloodied stump of my arm is perfect. It'll soak up the blood enough.

Good thinking.

>Move and keep the needle.

Perhaps you're right about the needle, using it now isn't such a good idea. Who knows if it could be something harmful, or something good. I'm not dead yet, so keeping it when I am about to be might be the right choice.

Moving forwards, it's an elevator. Dilapidated. Broken down. The steps don't move anymore, and don't feel stable.

What is most worrying is how the machine creaks with my every step, just like my bones. They ache underneath my movements.

Nothing happens however.

The paper is torn, much of the information is gone and parts of the writing have faded away with time. That there is anything to take from it is difficult to say.

'The solution is simple, create something that can...-Shadows.'

'Dangerous...we know how the cycles work, time is of the essence.'

'Ameliah.'

That's all I can really make out.

>Choose a direction

Making it to the top of the elevator feels like an accomplishment.

Three more paths open before us, with quite a few others blocked off by rubble.

One looks to have been previously barricaded and something smashed through the middle of the iron bar. The second is a path carved in blood, leading into darkness. The last is another elevator to the next section of the building.

While the building seems more damaged as we go up, something is holding it together.

There is also the sound of something behind me, perhaps I shouldn't look?

Up the elevator for a height advantage. Don't look behind you, just keep searching for a viable weapon and prepare to counter their sneak attack.

Sounds like Ameliah was made to subvert or stop the cycles, but is dangerous. Maybe she can't fulfill her purpose alone, but isn't really confident you can help so she's trying to kill you anyway.

Also she said to avoid anything related to her name, this building is such a thing. I think we should not be here, but no exits immediately present themselves that don't involve turning around and running into whatever's followed you into the building. Go to the previously-barricaded room first then turn around to see if your pursuer has followed you upstairs. The busted barricade is like a chokepoint so we can use that to fight a little more effectively, but honestly I'd like to get the hell out via a fire escape or something.
>>
No. 776677 ID: 9145ba

Go in the barricade room. If our pursuer is close by, it might be time to find a fire escape. Or just a window, really. What are you going to do, break every bone in your body twice?

Important safety observation: The walls and ceiling of this building obscure the view of the black sun, so any "hounds" in here cannot see it and thus are not mesmerized by it like the ones outside. This means all the "hounds" in here near where you passed by are very likely aware of your presence. And that means you're probably being tailed by at least one right now. Glance over your shoulder and be ready to dodge.

>Look behind, don't look behind

It's hard not to look. All I can hear is snarling, snapping, biting, the sound of flesh coiling in against itself in the darkness.

Perhaps coming into this building had been a mistake.

Looking at the sight is...holy shit

It's just a mass of eyes, teeth, desire.

I can tell it wants to consume.

It's hungry.

The snapping grows closer, the teeth chatter hungrily as thousands of bodies meld together.

Eyes open unnaturally from all parts and places. Some semblance of sentience is found in it's madness. It's pushing me. Forcing me.

Exits. If anything there is a way down from the top. Surely a fire-escape might exist. Anything.

Without any limbs it's difficult to apply, much less impossible to do on the run.

Biting into the needle seems like the shortest and easiest answer, and it isn't like a few shards of glass are going to hurt going down.

It burns.

It spreads.

The white substance isn't something exactly natural, had Ameliah planted it there?

The white is slowly, but surely spreading itself across your limbs and body, refilling the broken body with renewed strength and vigor.

The only way to avoid the flood of black, eyes, and chattering teeth.

It flows out from behind, pouring all around.

As you can imagine, jumping somewhere beyond six stories or so isn't exactly a good idea, but the only idea.

It ends predictably as one might imagine; with a thump.

Thump

Everything goes black.

Slamming into the ground at such high speeds isn't exactly a good way to keep conscious.
