Aaaand here's an official discussion thread at last. Here's where you can ask non plot-relevant worldbuilding questions, do extra strategizing, and I'll make inevitable excuses for why I haven't updated.

This time around, my update is late because I injured my back and my usual drawing posture is making it worse. Update will be up for real soon!

It could be the sentinels don't get much choice in their weapons. If it's just their powers (or the spirits) choosing something thematically appropriate or meeting unknown criteria that does limit their options for creativity or exotic min-maxing.

>>125195
So far at least the villains have been a mass of brain tentacles and a girl with a gun.
>>
No. 125205 ID: 90138c

>>125202

guns and brains are masculine metaphors, duh. i mean a gun is basically just a penis that shoots death sperm, and a brain is basically just a scrotum filled with thought sperm......

>>125195

On a more serious note though, coming into a thread to basically say "This thing you're making is too queer for my tastes, cater more to me as a straight white dude, queer nonbinary person" is almost comical in how... I'm trying not to say 'like an entitled baby' but I'm blanking on synonyms. It's tone deaf at the very least, and damn foolish by any other measure. Think before you post, maybe? Trying to immediately say "no offense intended!" is meaningless, when you step into someone's space like this.

Also, sexuality and gender presentation isn't biological ('sex' as we know it is a spectrum too, but that's a whole lecture), and I can guarantee that there's a lot more queer and nonbinary people around you than you think.

I get the feeling they just aren't comfortable talking about that around you, but what do I know I'm anonymous and petty as shit.

i mean you clearly are sensitive if the existence of beefy women (who... exist irl, fyi, and are consistently delicious) in a work of fiction is enough to make you leap to a bunch of concerns about Anti-Male Anti-Hetero Propaganda Campaigns, but that's not necessarily a character flaw. sensitivity is fine. you don't come off confrontational, just unnecessarily whiny, because tgchan has always been full of gay shit. 99% of the people here are furries. idk if you just haven't been here long but like, this quest's general content isn't out of the ordinary, and coming into a disthread like "oooooh man, is this gay On Purpose, because i'm not gonna like that :/" is something i am naturally going to laugh at given the circumstances

anyway i know from experience that slapfights in a quest thread can be stressful for the author so that's all i'm gonna say about it, but again i'm just gonna assume you're new here bc otherwise there's no way you'd be surprised or put off by quest characters being blatantly gay/genderweird

I guess all I’d like to say on this matter is that the villain of this quest is a lesbian, and that beyond that I think my work speaks for itself. If that’s going to be an obstacle to anyone’s enjoyment, they’re perfectly justified in not consuming my content, and I wish them all the best.

I don’t know how productive this particular conversation is, so if everyone’s okay with that, I’d like that to be the end of it for now.

Good god, i dont have, nor have i ever had, anything against lgbt stuff. What i mean is when more focus is put on their lgbt status than the actual story, it gets kind of ridiculous in my ever so humble opinion. I am perfectly fine with non-binary characters.

As for the art, i am aware that there are large women irl and that is perfectly fine. What I was wondering is if it was just how they were drawn or if they were specifically drawn like that.

Oh! Also, expect some elaboration on Sentinel weapons and powers in the next update!

Still pushing the shotgunblade.

One thing i just noticed, you might want to use a different connection or device when posting as Lazarus since you can see the ID. Windscribe is a free vpn service that has seemed pretty reliable and safe when i have used it.
>>
No. 125213 ID: 2202fb

Not that you need to. It would just add to the immersion/illusion imo.
>>
No. 125214 ID: 70df1e

>>125212

i don't know if that would work re: the VPN since we all already know that Lazarus is an official character. it might be easier to keep using the same posting method so that all the readers have an easier time knowing that Lazarus is part of the plot and not just like, an ordinary commenter.

that's a good idea to keep in mind for other quests, though! that could have some very neat applications.

Yeah, this is pretty much my rationale. Well, that and I'm pretty lazy. But there may be other spirits played by me that pop up in the future, and I want everyone to be clear on which characters ARE gm-played

That said, it's worth noting that every suggester is a canon character and a part of the plot.

i am LOVING that we get to make sentinel sonas lads. im gonna draw mine eventually i hope!

gonna babble about my sona and you guys should tell more about yours too!! i wanna hear em all!

mine is a yellow from ancient greece! they were primarily a tank and worked with a hoplon (round, ancient shield) and a spear to keep enemies distracted and draw their attention so that their team could focus on dealing damage.

sentinel yellows get fire powers, so i took that a step further to adapt to the time period and went with greek fire! it was cool stuff that we haven't even been able to replicate in modern times! it burned on water, and was used to win a lot of their naval battles historically!

fun history fact: greeks who fought with a sword and spear were called hoplites! it was considered super dishonorable to lose your shield for any reason, and shields were often used to carry the dead/wounded back from battle. loved ones used to tell soldiers "come back with your shield, or come back on it!" before they went to battle!

Are we limited to the sentinel colors / names that have been defined, or is there a wider roster to choose from?
>>
No. 125278 ID: bd5c42

>>125276
The former, I'm afraid. There may or may not have been other people out there fighting under other colors (unfortunately, I can't really go into that,) but Petra is only connected to the CMYK sentinels.
>>
No. 125279 ID: 70df1e

>>125276

i THINK its just the four colors and it seems like anything from the present and backwards into the past works? but that's just my best guess, since all the spirits are dead sentinels. CYMK seems like a set, like the printer inks, so if there are more colors i don't think they'd get to be spirits for a magenta?

I want it stated on the record that I extremely encourage roleplaying and I love all of you who've gone that route so far. The more awful and chaotic Petra's head feels, the merrier.

Happy New Year! (Technically I should have put this out last night, but I was occupied, haha.)

Of course, in Sentinel Key time, it's still like...November/December but in REAL time it's Rosh Hashanah, so here's a little something.

Have a good one, and I'll get an update out later today or tomorrow!

(Also, you won't get this from Janus, but the real reason for the CMYK color scheme is.....because quietCrisis likes it and thinks it looks good, haha. I don't have a good in-fiction justification for that.)
>>
No. 125424 ID: afdebc

>>125423
I figured the naming/color scheme was more likely to have an OOC basis, but it's fun to give Janus shit over it regardless.

I'm sympathetic to this, as someone who has a mental disability myself, but you have to also understand that how I, as a mentally disabled person, can't welcome you into my story after coming into my thread with language that vile and hateful. My decision stands, but I hope you take this as an opportunity for growth.

Hello suggesters dear! Here's something exciting: I have a curiouscat! (I've actually had it for a while but oh well, it's new to you.) If you've got questions that aren't directly related to Sentinel Key lore or that you just don't want to put in the disthread for some reason, check it out right here!

https://curiouscat.me/quietcrisis

I'm giving you guys the ability to be anonymous because I know people might want it in certain situations, so please nobody ruin it for everyone else.

If I get anything particularly relevant to the quest, I'll probably drop the answers in here as well!

Hearts Goetia......heard of it?

I made a joke about drawing all the main Sentinel Key crew as demons (and one angel) from Hearts Goetia, and then.....I spent all week doing it. Whoops.

I've just come back from vacation, so regular updates will resume shortly.

Hey, I'm sure y'all're wondering what's up with this quest with the launch of my new quest, Paradise found (go read it it's at https://tgchan.org/kusaba/quest/res/909541.html ) but worry not! Sentinel Key is not on hiatus or going away! I'm going to give this update a few more days, so if you're working on an outfit submission you have a little more time. I'm hoping to update PF during the periods when I'm usually working up motivation to work on Sentinel Key, since the art on this one is a lot more complex and labor-intensive.

Heya! I'm trying to be a little less inconsistent when I draw the SK panels so behold: an actual model sheet! Hopefully this is the first of many, and I'll post them in case people need the reference for some reason.

127587

Okay for real, update soon I swear. But in the meantime, here's another reference sheet.

Imani is definitely the character I struggle to draw consistently the most. Her hair texture and body type seem to fluctuate all over the place when I draw her, so getting a reference sheet for her done was probably a good idea. I also tweaked her design a little, although that probably won't come up till the party's over.

No transformation ring noted in that one. Do they have different mechanics, or is the placement of hers just easier to remember?

I like the tweaked design a lot!
>>

Imani and Brigid both have transformation rings too! And I forget to draw them with just as much frequency, so they probably should be noted on all of the sheets, but I didn't bother because it's already noted on Petra's.

When transformed, the rings become those symbol-shaped charms on their chests, so any time I didn't draw them in transformed mode was NOT a mistake. However, I'm constantly leaving out Petra's weird bracelet-ring-charm thingy and the bow on her back.

(her losing her jacket in the first fight WASN'T a mistake but I probably should have drawn more attention to it.)
