Quest: https://tgchan.org/kusaba/quest/res/915048.html

Disthread for my first ever Quest! I'm very new to this and probably really awful, so I'd love feedback and suggestions. Actually, the quest will probably die without them. Especially if I keep railroading this badly. Haha.

just read it and i’m enjoying it already — my first feedback/advice, not just for quests but also as an artist in general, is to can the self-deprecation. you’ll feel better.

also don’t worry abt “railroading” when you’re only a handful of updates in! not every quest is a complete sandbox. clearly you have a plot in mind, and you’re getting us there. if we need to be scooted around a little bit to get into proper position for the story, that’s not railroading, it’s just proper guidance of your audience.

chill out! you’re doing great.

that’s a relatable feeling, and one that just means your eye is more skilled than your hand. you have the critical taste to know what you want from your work but your hand hasn’t caught up yet. it will!

fwiw, as a reader i’m really enjoying your art style. also, quests are a great way to improve anyway, since it’s just constant repetition.

Heyo! This is late, but here's Eth in a pretty mundane surcoat, standard and traditional for wear by knights on duty, say they were suddenly awoken and slammed on their armor as fast as possible. Also gave her historically inaccurate steel lamellar! I'll probably have a few more to upload by tomorrow, though I might be a spot ill.

>With the death of the last of the royal line and the near total destruction of the royal guard, the lizards quickly claimed the land, wiping out all hope of resistance in mere hours.

>'Ethelyne' as she was now called fought bravely but eventually lost consciousness from blood-loss and lack of oxygen amidst mountains of fallen foes, waking to find herself in chains.

>Now considered the last ranking official of the fallen monarchy, Eth was claimed as a rare prisoner and subjugated to endless public humiliation and exhibition, made to suffer unendurable indignity.

>In time, as the years passed. her captors grew careless around the now-surely-broken once-knight, the weakling mammal no match for superior lizard mating.

>Shortly thereafter, an exotic slave failed to show up to her regular shows and was impossible to find anywhere. No one ever connected this with the appearance of a rebellion of young and idealistic lizard-hybrids, or their mysterious queen...

Did you know that:
Upper Þ and lower þ use to be used in old English to represent the th sound and the name of the letter was thorn? So Thorne can be spelled Þorne or just Þ.
And
Upper Ð, lower ð means eth and was used interchangeably with þ because fucking English.
Both are still used in Iceland to this day.

They aren't actually interchangeable, technically. Thorn describes an unvoiced fricative (THing, THrough, THin, faiTH), whereas Eth is a voiced fricative (THat, wiTH, THere, broTHer). The difference is fairly slight, though, and not one most people even notice.

I am not sure how to explain it exactly, but it just made sense to me when i started to see animals in the story and the map you made. And i just thought: Wolfs in the north and the the center, lions coming from sowehere else, probably south east; lizards from the south in a desert that use cimitars; and then you have the bird people from the east.

Wolves = europeans, Europe is full of those and are really important in the mythology and culture.

Lizards = south asians (Moors, Persians, Turks, etc) live in the desert and use scimitars. They also tended to invade Europe frome many sides.

Bird people = it is more of a speculation, but i would guess they could be the east assians (Russian, Mongols, ect) birds are important there, they were use as hunting animals and the feathers are very used to make arrows, they were very fond of their bowmanship.

Sooo there you have it. When you said you were German, it kinda make sense to me, taking in account your Quest. I don't know if you took inspiration from that, but that is what i interpreted.

Uh... not really...? The area I live in used to have both wolves and lions, but has neither now. Only lizards and birds.

I based it more on traditional fantasy stories. The lizards were heavily influenced by the Aiel from Wheel of Time, who are aesthetically arabic, but functionally more like picts than anything . They're also a standin for the standard goblin/kobold/troll race most high fantasy tends to have.

Also the map looks more like westeros or north america than anything lol

But if that's your reading it's totally valid, I'm all about death of the author

>things happen, good AND bad

Frankly, I'll give props to Deer for not being afraid to give the suggesters rope to hang their poor charges with by in the heat of the moment dramatically outline that, yes, your friendly rival saved you in a very similar situation and are you really gonna let her down now?

It was a very good 'here is a binary choice where both will make you feel something' moment where the noble option was neither logical nor safe. If both E & T survive it, Thorne will probably be beating Eth up for trying to save her and leaving the royals to fend for themselves. If Eth had let Thorne fall, Eth would currently be beating herself up for 'letting down' her friend/rival.

There was even a possible reasonable third option in telling Thorne to undress ("No, seriously. Not a joke.") and have someone lighter carry her equipment over first, just in case. It's not like we didn't have the option to maybe avoid the event, so it's a pretty good choice dynamic for a chapter end!

I mean, worst comes to worst, I'm sure Eth gets to join team ghost.

Speaking of, the ghost scampergangers were both real creepy and real confusing. We had no idea what they were up to other than getting close to the royals, tricking us, and we didn't know what hurt them, other than the fact the light seemed to keep them away, but then the light came at a cost and we really had clue which was worse. You'd think, being creatures in the royal crypt, Reno might've heard something about 'em before, but I guess not. And now one of them's 'free', maybe? Is that bad? Was IT bad, in the end? It just scampered off, so who knows! I suspect it'll remain a mystery and we'll see if it resurfaces. Quite possibly it can just be classified as 'weird shit we saw on our way out'.

Actual questions for Deer: Did we go through the tomb faster or slower than you thought we would? How many dark secrets did we miss? Will His Highness Thomas the 11th ever catch a break and meet a cute cryptkeeper rather than yet another posse of fleeing descendants?

I would have handled the bug fight differently. There was no reason to back up towards the throne room to let the bug even more room to kill you. On the other hand there was a second perpendiculary corridor on the way. By getting someone there and backing up you force the bug to pick one or the other while in a cramped space.

First of all, the guard captain was not a great warrior, had limited protection and was not wielding a weapon effective on the attack. He had a pike and a buckler. The pike is a primarily defensive weapon, that is often the only solid infantry choice against infantry because braces pikes scare horses from charging (as horses do not tend to commit suicide and understand what a sharpened pike is). Pikemen can't defeat cavalry on their own but that's not the point. The captain should have remained in front of the buh pike braced and only focused on keeping it at bay defensively. He would be flanked by Eth, whose arming sword was too short to be useful in such a head-on fight; however, Eth has a shield, and while the captain's buckler, an equipment piece rather meant for duels than formation fights like that, could maybe parry one blow from the left side, his pike side would stay exposed. Eth could cover him with her shield while hacking at the bug's arms with her swords and the both of them might have survived.

In the meantime, Thorne is a very aggressive warrior. If I remember correctly, she wields a two-hander, which is a lot of damage, and wears heavy plate, which is a requirement with these shieldless setups unless you like to catch arrows and spears with your face. Only the bug from a frontal direction would be a serious threat to her, and so that is why Thorne would have gone off in the second passage. By attracting the bug further towards the great hall, Eth and the captain would have made it so that Thorne could reach the rider from the flank while his mount was enable to turn effectively towards her. If it split its attention and decided to go for Thorne first, Eth can start hacking at its legs while covered by the captain, but I wouldn't have recommended unhorsing the rider before his mount was crippled.

But eh. I wasn't there when it happened, that's too bad.

Sacrificing allies each fight is usually strategically unsound. Some soldiers exist only to be thrown at problems and die while better warriors take care of them from the sider but it's better to not spend resources whenever you don't need to.

I don't feel that this was a bad decision
Bad decision for a spireblade? Yes, oh yes
Bad decision for a sister-in-arms, nah, even if she says it was

We'll stick to it, and be grateful we did it in the end so long Reno and Dana doesn't succumb to a bad end.

Also, lets face it, there was no other choice for the types of suggester tgchan attracts, especially with that animated image flicker further pushing us to do it. If Deer was running a quest for a board exclusive to the secret service, they probably would have unanimously let Thorne fall.

Is there a chan for veterens?

Thorne is a rival and a comrade... Reno on the other hand is your crush and your charge. You mostly need Thorne to keep Reno alive.

It would have been more logical to keep yourself and the royals safe first, and then try to rescue Thorne. When you're dead you can't save anybody, so that kind of reasoning can be what differenciates someone who will keep Reno alive from someone who doesn't... What is the loyalty here? Isn't it a better committment to Thorne than to ensure your common duty is fulfilled? She saved you because she had to, and you'd do that for the same reasons if you could.

Anyway, in that sort of situation there's no real 'bad' decisions but we have to see who will suffer.

I had to do that choice once and I learned my lesson, we'll what Eth will decide to learn.

I mean, obviously, protecting the princesses would have been the right choice, if that had been the choice. We chose to save a friend, and suffered the consequence of not protecting the princesses. That's different. A mistake in hindsight, but sometimes you make mistakes, and the reason for the mistake wasn't bad.

It could go awfully, but planning logically isn't going to work every time either. I guess you have experience with situations like these, and maybe you're right, so all I can say is what I'd do, even if it resulted in me failing.

Also, Thorne might be upset, reasonably, but I think if we just watched her fall Reno would be even more upset. If we just let a friend fall for the sake of the mission, what would she think of Eth?

I think Reno is in fact going to be very upset you've left her alone. With Dana fending for herself as well.

You're in charge. You're the *only one* in charge, and she is a squishy princess person that already just broke down in tears at the situation of: her family being murdered and her castle being invaded, with people trying to kill her. The only thing she still has to keep her head on her shoulders both figuratively and literally is a stalwart knight that has been trained and taught just what to do in that very situation. Except she doesn't anymore, and as far as royals go, well, that's a royal fuckup on your part. Now she's stuck all alone and without a weapon, carrying her little sister, in a dark tomb full of ghosts and undead monstrosities that can take your appearance and say "don't worry princess I'm here now".

So yes, grabbing onto a massive weight on its way down was a terrible, terrible idea.

My only advice with this is to get it solved absolutely asap. First chance I get is to shout to Reno to take a dip as well. Unless, of course, there's a current already sweeping you, and you drown because of your armour. Speaking of, that's probably what's happening to Thorne.
>>
No. 128120 ID: 57f319

>>128119
Yeah, but bad feelings aren't equal. There has to be a difference in the negative feelings directed towards coldly letting a friend maybe die (and given what you said about Thorne's armor, is actually pretty likely) and heroically trying to save Thorne, but failing and leaving them alone. Reno is, as you made clear, an emotional person, even if she hides that behind a crown most of the time. She'll understand an emotional mistake better than a cold decision. I'd like to believe that anyway.

We can't know that until we meet up with her again, obviously, but we do know she also raced to the edge before we fell. I think it's clear enough that she understands what Eth was feeling. If she didn't want Eth to try, she could have said or done something. Maybe we're supposed to make the hard choices she can't, but we aren't in charge. She is. She's literally the crown princess, we were just the pointman. We chose to take a stupid risk, so it was up to her to stop us if that's what she wanted.

Also Thorne wasn't falling when we grabbed her, she was on the lip of the broken bridge and her hand slipped. It was armored so that should have been expected. But with the frequency of the updates mimicking the speed of the situation, it's hard to see the details that make it clear that a cold decision is not as cold as it appears. That there was nothing you could do, and that it would be a pointless sacrifice. But a lot of that is hindsight, and not a lot of it can be explained and understood when acted upon.

Also part of this is what Reno and Dana will learn from this. If we get back to them alive, before anything happens to them, it sends a pretty nice message. Big if, I know.

I thought it'd be a lot slower, actually. You all figured this stuff out pretty quickly. You missed a fight with a large stone scorpion gargoyle, but I'm kinda glad, since fights are dumb to draw. You could've inspected the royal coffins for some lore, and could've tried stabbing the reno pit for gross shit. That's it, really!

Heroes do what must be done, not necessarily what makes them feel better. Yes, you're not in charge if you don't go forward and take charge or are told to take charge. And Reno said: 'take charge of saving us'.

Let me put it another way: if you don't start using your brain more and your heart less, she will die. That will be permanent. If you mess up, Reno and Dana die. If you die, Reno and Dana also die. The next time you freeze in front of an apparition you can't let Thorne handle it for you (especially if Thorne is also dead).

Just because you let a friend die, doesn't mean that you are doing coldly. Or that it wasn't your friend. Or that you aren't conflicted and painful. It just means that life fucking sucks and you should focus on doing your best with what you got. And if Reno asks you 'how could you let her die', what you tell the castle-coddled cat princess is that both Thorne and you have been trained your whole life since you were three to keep HER alive, not each other, that all the other elite warriors in the barracks, who dedicated their entire life for this, and died without glory stabbed in their beds like puppies have paid the price of duty, and that is what being a Spireblade means.

Your best friend was already killed today: I don't know him but I think that from the ghost realm he'd not give two shits about bad feelings and shout at you to make sure literally everyone in your order didn't die just for you to play hero and mess up. So I support a more hardened Eth, immediately whenever.

Yes it's very good and we get to discuss things in depth with real (or feeling-real) decisions. It makes me feel like the problems are real and so that if I am clever enough they can be solved well.

Frankly I usually enjoy to pick the heroic options for such games because I hate to leave people behind but a story like that which feels actually menacing and stakey is refreshing. And I await in suspense to see if there will be a punishment for a mistake or a miraculous stroke of luck, and at that point I'm feeling immersed enough to believe in either.

I'm with everyone here I think to say I want Thorne saved... But I felt forced not to and I kind of enjoy it.

Yikes. You don't want a hero, you want a soldier. That's your prerogative, but it's my prerogative to want a more empathetic person (who happens to fight for her friends). I don't want Eth to be a hero either. But I'm going to keep advocating for heart over head. Bad shit is going to happen regardless, and I'd rather deal with it by trying to do the moral thing. Maybe if the situation was different and we weren't on the run, I'd think about being more professional, but we're all each other has. Feelings matter, especially when you don't have anyone else to go to.

There's no happy ending if Eth is too jaded or too hard to appreciate it. And if Reno is alive but a tyrant. And if Thorne isn't there to tell Dana stories. And if Dana is scared and aloof because no one got close to her. And if etc.

Your feelings matter a lot less than the lives of those who depend on you. You can afford to be cavalier with your own life but not someone else's. In some cases that mean letting good people fend for themselves and ignoring their cries for help. This is a war you're in right now, a very dangerous situation. And if soldiers can't be heroes then that's a very inexperienced understanding of soldiers...

>Maybe if the situation was different and we weren't on the run, I'd think about being more professional, but we're all each other has.
You see what someone is made of when shit hits the fan, not when he's safe and well... Being on the receiving end of a manhunt is the last time to be a Hollywood squishy, and the only real time to use all that professional discipline you have. You'll have time to treat your PTSD once Dana is not at a risk to get replaced by a doppleganger. When you can't afford to save someone, don't try. You won't like the interests.

>Feelings matter, especially when you don't have anyone else to go to.
Like, right now, when Reno and Dana just saw both their knights fall to their apparent deaths instead of just the best one.

>>128131
As far as you know this turned from 'one in danger' to 'two in danger and two alone with danger' and that's a worse prospect for both. But from the bridge you could have removed your armour before dipping if you really wanted to go after her. While you couldn't know there was water (or actually if there is), it was a bit more evident to see grabbing her would likely make you fall.

I don't want Eth to be a soldier: I think she already is one, and she just needs to become a good one.

Yogh is indoctrinated. He's not allowed to discuss his sociopath issues with a psychiatrist - mainly because they'd be executed for learning state secrets, and psychiatrists in medieval settings are old sages who don't realize the mind can be studied.

You know, people are very often more complicated than 'just being assholes' and 'just being evil'. I know a lot of very shallow individuals that have no morals and are very petty, but that's because they're base, and well, shallow kinds who never get anywhere far in life and just play socialites all day... You know, in a workplace, or in college. Compare with a guy like Yogh, who is about the best warrior in the whole kingdom. Chances are that he is not a simple person with a simple personality.

Not to give you examples of what could be but he's a war veteran who kills a lot of people for a living. Just that alone has to make you think. About 5% of soldiers shoot to kill. Most people have trouble with killing other people... Psychologically it's a huge burden, and people like Yogh either are born without that blockade or work themselves up to ignore and forget it, sometimes by blocking out their human emotions, sometimes due to complex psychological trauma. So frankly... As much as Yogh ACTS like an uncouth asshole, he hasn't done anything personally wrong so far besides following heartless orders. He insists on paying good money for you, which actually can mean a lot about his moral standards being more than shades of black.

You don't know yet until you get to know more, that's what I'd say.
>>
No. 128213 ID: adb07a

Born to simple origins. Dad is kind of an asshole, drinks, a bit too violent. Mom is kinda distant. Grows up a bit emotionally troubled and violent himself, tend to solve problems by beating problem people. Sort of feels smarter than most around him and begin to have existential crisis. Hates that life is going nowhere and enlists the army by lying on his age because it just felt better than a life of herding pigs or what have you. Gets to live in city and be part of the guard. His inherent talent is recognized. Time of peace. Has fun with his youth.

Now captain of the guard. Meets a girl, instant crush. Beat up her other suitor (can't let you do that) and scare him off because he's a shallow wimp. To his great surprise she enjoys his personality and likes him this way. Kills someone for the first time during a patrol, has less nightmares over it than he was expecting. Never treats his fair lady with anything else but the utmost care. Feels like settling down, start thinking about quitting his job. Yogh-wife pregnant with a mini-Yogh, ecstatic and starts making plan to leave for good. Mini-Yogh and wife die in childbirth. Doesn't leave the army and joins a troop for the front, try to forget about it. Mom dies.

Makes new friends in the army, most of them end up dying. Witnesses the true crucible of hate and depravation that is war. Witnesses war crimes, from his friends, from his enemies. Sometimes partakes bad things, end up having trouble justifying them to himself, feels conflicted. Very young and rising through the ranks fast for trying to get noticed. Get letter that dad died, it's just me now. Career-oriented workaholic officer. Is given a noble title for heroism and called back to the capital after suffering a debilitating wound to his right eye. King wants him to train the new spireblades. Accepts.

>be Sir Yogh of Pridemour now, Spireblade to the Throne

One day go all the way up North to retrieve some dead soldier's brat. QT3.14 mom doesn't want to give her, "she's all I have yadi yada", try to be nice and promise her big money, explain I could *also* murder her if I had to. Whatever lady. Brief thoughts about taking her ass, settle for a kissy. Hurry up I'm cold and my feet hurt. Get the kid, feel like there's something queer about her but whatever.

Enjoy becoming a tyrant to all the kid (we need them tough and also it's funny). Briefly think back about Mini-Yogh, feel like this is fulfilling what I've missed in some way. Whatever, I'll take it. All I care about is turning them into Yoghs: perfect killing machines to the service of His Majesty.

Hear some rumour about one of the spireblade kids (now almost all grown up) been seen ''''discussing grapes'''' with a royal, apparently local expression to mean they're making a lasagna sandwich. Priest says girls can't love each other so that's not possible, have seen way too much in my lifetime to know just how wrong he is. Plan to interrogate her tommorrow, maybe I'll have to lop her head off or something. Go to bed. Get woken up by rude people.

>mfw lizard assassins have killed the king
>ow oh my god I just got stabbed to death
>ah yesss the spireblade kids came to-
>it's the lasagna kid and she's the only one left to watch over the queen

There's no excuse for his behavior. Explanations, of course, reasons. None of them are good enough, though some, like maybe this is the way society shaped him, make it inevitable. Maybe there's more to him, plenty of reasons, but he's still also a creep, no matter what else he is. And hopefully that's all he is, a creep trying to get a rise out of the people, though it's not unlikely that he's done worse.

If we're to judge based on people's actions, his paint an ugly picture.

If Yogh cared about explanations he wouldn't be doing his job. Some people have a morality based on "good" and "evil", some have it based on "us" or "them", some have it on "me", and "everyone else". None of them is necessarily less hypocritical than the other.

His job isn't to coerce intimacy from peasants. His job is undesirable to parents, sure, and he has the right to do it through force if necessary. But the kind of force he uses is a reflection on his character, and he'd already succeeded in his job by the time he molested her. He was just upset she wanted five minutes to say goodbye.

And morality being subjective has its limits. Namely, when around other people. At least, when it comes to judgement.

Well, if you read his, or her, or whatever, I dunno, reputation in full... You really don't want to compare. As presented in History the Emperor of Rome had lost about all grasp on reality and was living life as an underage prostitute. This is not the example you want. To cite other reported misdeeds...

- Basically raped a vestal, which are celibate for holy reasons
- Screwed over the religious pantheon
- Dishonored the Empire to the lowest possible depths without giving a single damn about his responsibilities as Emperor. Again, was being an underage prostitute in the royal palace. Imagine the president of the USAs doing that in the White House. Yeah. People are gonna be pissed and they should be.
- Enormous and blatant nepotism in administration

Elagabalus is rated as having one of the worst, if not THE worst historical ruler reputation in the whole of human History. Reading all the contemporary reports, he was a degenerate in full, not 'degenerate' as a cute online furry meme, but actual 'needs a therapist'. If you want a historically gay person in power to refer to? Not Elagabalus. Never take Elagabalus. Never. Ever. Don't even think about it, and you basically know how it ended for him, he got stabbed by his own soldiers.

Now I know what some people are gonna say and it's gonna be "but what if this was just rumours and character assassination". Well, 'character assassination' is claimed to happen to everyone with any sort of even slight side of controversy. This is often the first line of defense of revisionists of all allegiances, saying 'actually X wasn't that bad, he didn't even order that...' and going there is just a waste of time. Historians usually do a great job and Historiography is a real, serious and very scrutinized field but the first thing you're taught in class is that a "Historical Fact" can be many things and validating sources is very hard, especially old ones when History was more a hobby than a vocation and people felt entitled to add their strawberries to the salad. Like you're calling him 'her' but you don't know if that was an invention too, maybe he wasn't even a sexual deviant, but the point is that, the historical character called Elagabalus is all these things and will keep being these things barring a completely new source with perfect credibility that will disprove it (this will never happen). Elagabalus is a terrible person in Historical records and so comparing someone to him is comparing them to the one insane ruler in the Roman Empire that was getting paid, at the age of sixteen, to have sex with strangers in brothels while trying to get the people to worship him over the rest of the religious pantheon. Also he raped a sacred vestal. And yes, he probably was a transsexual, but NOT in a way that would get anyone to see it in a good way. WHILE having the responsibility of an entire empire and the millions of people living under his authority. I don't know if any of this is actually true: but it's up in the air and that is not good. Even if it wasn't, he obviously failed to maintain a balance and keep a lid on his deviancies. The best I could assume (and honestly what I think was the *most truthful*) is that he was just a troubled kid in an ancient society, not cut out for leadershp, with primitive ignorance of psychology and that was given ultimate power over the strongest nation in the entire world at the time.

This is... The wrong choice of idol, frankly. For weirdoes in administration that dude was a disaster and associating with him gives a very bad image. On the other hand, you got people like Frederick the Great.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Frederick_the_Great

Frederick III Prussia was nicknamed "The Great" for a lot of reasons, and none of them were self-aggrandizing propaganda you saw in more ancient times. Freddie was a GREAT ruler. And he had a bad case of being a big gay.

"Unusual for his time and aristocratic background, he criticized hunting as cruel, rough and uneducated"

A guy after my own heart. So he lived in the 18th century which, while better than the dark ages or ancient Rome, was still a time to get impaled for suspected sodomy. But he was an extremely competent ruler that was supported and beloved by his people, his administration and his soldiers, and he was a refined workaholic. So they didn't care event though it was known by about everyone which way he was swinging. Freddie also could keep a lid on it, so that it wasn't ostentatious and so most folks would either not have to know about it or could choose not to believe it.

He was even as close as possible to an atheist. Fancy that. The only thing you could reproach is antisemitist tendencies, after all nobody's perfect, and the conquest and exploitation of Poland, which is... Normal, for a ruler at the time.

In fact anyone had their way with Poland back then. My grandpapa was polish, so I can say it.

I would have been an historian if I didn't drop out. I've studied a lot of other things too. My degree was 'English Language' which covers a lot of things from how babies first learn to speak to how racism forms to the economical situation of the English Kingdom in 1600. And of course my favourite, how 9/11 was a CIA plot. Miss you Mr William Schnabel, hope your retirement's as fun as your lectures. He made a book about how Lovecraft is racist. Frankly, I haven't read it, because I don't like Lovecraft I like Tolkien.

Personally, I think that if you want to know anything as far a 'social' sciences are concerned (which are REAL sciences with many useful applications just like STEM fields), you need to know a lot of diffuse things, because any social issue is the cause, consequence and context of at least twenty other things. So knowing a bit about psychiatry, philosophy, or even joining the army can help you understand a historical personality or knowing the basics of economy can explain, say, the rise of certain ideologies. General knowledge like that is also a capital skill for storywriters and artists, because that's one thing to say "she's a gay ruler", it's different to explain how it matters. Well, personally I'm enjoying the characters without the need for drawn out explications over their world, so I don't mind.

Don't take sources on her as objective fact. Most of the most trustworthy ones were written by Dio from a position of EXTREME hostility towards her, and definitely not intended to look good.

That said, I never said I idolize this person. They're simply a queer ruler who came to mind, because I recently wrote about them in a dissertation on gender dysphoria. None of their other deeds or politics are relevant here. I may as well have chosen Queen Anne, or Frederick the Great, or Al-Hakam II, or Ludwig Viktor.

yeah i dont think it counts if one or more parties is unconscious and/or dying when it happens.

unless its the "mortally wounded on the battle field and now as i lay her dying kiss me because i've always loved you" kind of thing. That totally counts.

Bah, you philistines! It was a practical life-saving suggestion! Now Eth can safely cross off that particular box on her bucket list without ever getting mauled by Thorne in the process! Unless there's another checkbox further down called "Tease Thorne about that time I kissed her"...

Really though, Eth trying to give Thorne air to keep her from dying was, I feel, illustrated in a cool and badass way. Me getting to deploy 'the kiss of breath' in a sentence is just a sweet bonus (to my incorrigible punny bone) and I'm happy the Deervine didn't feel obliged to insert inappropriate lewds (given the situation) into Eth's head because of it.

So far, EthQuest has functioned on a weird scheduled, where I hop online whenever I can, and draw a few updates.

I've gotten a... mixed response to this. Some people love it, some people hate it.

Now I don't want to be working on this quest for several years, so I don't intend to slow down. But should I work out a schedule for when a session starts, so more people who are interested have the opportunity to join in? Say, every week on saturday at 2 PM CET, and extra dates whenever I announce them. Or is the current method fine for you folks?

eh, i'm fine with whatever, as long as you give us like 5-10 minutes between updates to write a suggestion before starting work on the next one.
>>
No. 128359 ID: eeb7d9

>>128358
Yeah, i agree with this, is all right with me as long as i have time to write suggestions.
>>
No. 128360 ID: bcc41d

Count me among those that like the rapid update style despite sometimes missing the chance to make input. Scheduling a good usual time will always be relative to you, and some people may start missing out on a chance to participate during sessions due to it being in the middle of their sleep/work/whatnot. I'd rather you varied it some, like you have been doing, rather than limiting to certain times of the day/week.

I'm not gonna diss on the method completely, mind. You can always announce when you plan to do a spree and just see what comes of it.
>>

as one of the people who struggles to keep up: don’t worry about it. the people who have the flexibility to consistently participate are having fun, and the people who don’t can still backread and leave suggestions in the lull between update sessions, and i think that evens out to being fine for everyone. plus, the most important thing is that it’s the update method that works for you. i think that trying to make things more rigid and schedule stuff is just going to put unnecessary strain on you.

i do agree with >>128360 that there’s no harm in throwing a quick “hey, i might be updating tonight” in the disthread sometimes especially if you think you’ll get a lot of updates done, so that people can try to be around, but i guess that might get cumbersome/cluttered depending on how often it happens. at the end of the day i think you should just stick to whatever’s easiest for you.

Just realized I never actually posted that comment I thought I had three weeks ago. Now I feel rather the dullard.

Anyway, just wanted to tell you how cool I think this quest is. So far, the story has really been quite good. But I must say, the art is my favorite part. You basically use my favorite style; grayscale with deep color accents. So maybe I'm just biased, but I certainly love the art.

Eth is also pretty sexy, which, I mean, is kinda important. And also Reno.
And also Thorne.

Come on let's face it, Thorne's just fat (well she's probably all muscle but come on, one has to have a very specific taste to call that sexy, she's cool and big and dope, but not sexy, not that there's anything wrong with that)

p.s. - no offense to anyone who claims otherwise

What you said is kinda rude.

Even if she is fat, she can still be sexy if she wants to be sexy.

Criticism is like spoiled meat.

It smells bad, tastes bad, sometimes just looking at it makes you sick.

But if it's properly prepared (constructive criticism) than eating it not only provides nutrition, but also builds immunity to the harmful effects.

Then there's unprepared, spoiled meat (haters). Eating that shit is just gonna tear you up from the inside.

That was a complicated metaphor who's basic massage was; don't take hate, because hate tastes like spoiled meat.

Would an analogy of trying to swallow a whole, live pufferfish verses eating properly prepared fugu work better?

Yeah probably. My analogy was spoiled meat cause I was eating discount steak at the time of writing.

The art style of this quest is quite abstract and much different from Eth. Not that I mind, I find it quite interesting. As long as it's not used to censor certain things too much heh. What I'd like to ask is, what made you decide on this art style and will it remain the same through the whole quest?
>>

Gotta see how well it works, it'll probably develop quite a bit.

It was inspired partly by middle american art- mayan and aztec especially- and modern day pop art, with some dunmer thrown in.

So, updating has been kinda difficult lately, because people haven't been... suggesting much. This is probably my fault, since I'm the one running the quest, but bear with me, I'm still an amateur.

Should I switch to a lettered system, like Coxwette? Always keeping a blank option for people who have their own suggestions? It might help keep up the pace a little, and encourage more people to join in.
>>
No. 129562 ID: bb78f2

It may also be because we're in a difficult, slow, puzzley situation, so some suggesters are waiting for the hard part to be over, preferring a more active and smarter people to solve the situation for them.

I'm speaking for me, mostly. Don't know how many other's feel the same, but there's a good chance. Even with the lettered system, people might just be waiting for updates to pile up to binge through and better get their bearings on the environment. The Castle attack and escape was very active, so it was react and GOOOOOO! Don't think, DO!

Knowing that though, I'll suggest more. I'm not that confident in my answers so the letters will help a lot.

Yeah, i agree with this, i am more of the "spark of moment" than the "calmly finish the puzzle". I don't dislike it, i just have a really hard time with puzzles, and because English is my second language too.

I am loving the quest so far!
