Higher Res of pictured cards.

Okay three card readings are usually past/present/future, right?

First hand:
The Moon, with a touch of Hanged Man.
The Star, with a touch of The Fool.
The Sun, with a touch of Two of Pentacles.
Moon is fear, madness, imagination, illusion, animal nature. Hanged Man involves gaining a new perspective due to misfortune, but also involves sacrifice and a "rest" of some kind. So the past of this hand involves mental troubles that gave them a new perspective on things but also slowed down their life(or someone else's?).
The Star is just all round positive stuff. Hope, healing, etc. The Fool is symbolic of beginning a journey or learning or embracing your own mistakes. So the person is learning to heal and move on.
The Sun is a card involving greatness, wisdom, and becoming your own person. Two of Pentacles is about being flexible and fun.
So the future of this person is bright and free.
I think this is Fingers' hand.

Second hand:
The Magician? Also looks a bit like The World in that there's symbols in every corner, but only the Sun and Moon. There's the crown in there which could refer to any of the royal cards or just imply royalty.
The Tower.
This hand seems to tell the story of someone who gained lots of power and authority but it's coming crashing down. We've got no clues as to what happens next. Sounds like the guy we saw get executed, tbh, in which case there would be no third card since the dude's dead and has no future. This is also the side of the table where the dealer is, and nobody else is there except ghosts, one of which is digging at the spot where the third card should be. So yeah, a dead guy.

Third hand:
Death.
Death means drastic change, either positive or negative. So a significant change in the past is all we've got here.
Looks like the protagonist's hand. I wonder what the blood is about?
>>
No. 131508 ID: b1b4f3

Oh, I forgot to go into further detail on the second hand's cards.
The Magician is about action and power, The World is accomplishment, achieving your dreams etc.
The Tower symbolizes a great and sudden disaster or explosive revelation. It is generally seen as the most negative card in the deck, worse than Death or The Devil.

Also I can't help but notice the protagonist is tied to the table by a spider's web. Fate.
Not sure what the heart symbol and hand drawing are about, but eyes seem to be associated with justice in this setting so that further solidifies that hand's owner being Redkho.

Hey I mirrored this quest on MSPFA here, all the updates together. So that's a thing. https://mspfa.com/?s=33028&p=1

I want to ask, what recognizable species are going to appear in this quest? Is that a spoiler? There's Slissa, obviously, but what others are there going to be? And is this meant to be in some way canon to the quests these species originate from?

Thanks for the mirroring!

A lot more recognizable species are planned for this quest, but saying which specific ones would probably veer into spoiler territory. I will say that any species is up for inclusion, as long as the creator gives me permission to use them.

The inclusion of species from other quests is in no way canon to the respective quests. I am writing The God Damned to be a self-contained, though it will have a few questden references and easter eggs.

So Chast's weird mini-story is done. Not totally sure I was able to convey what I wanted with it, but it was probably worth experimenting with. So, if you had any feedback on it, feel free to post it here, and I can answer some non-spoilery ooc questions if anything was confusing.

Probably going to keep doing stuff like this, assuming everyone didn't hate it. Maybe there will be more interactivity based on the questions, if I can swing it. But GD's setting has a lot of stories, and asking questions in ITQ will help you uncover some of them and maybe give context to world Asher is trying to survive in. Not every question will lead to these mini-stories, or even most, but some will. Whether it's characters or groups that have only been mentioned or seen, established characters in the story proper, or just total shots in the dark (like asking a random miner about lightstones). Maybe you'll hit on something.

I found it interesting, Graphy's been doing some nice bit of work keeping these going, so my thanks and compliments on that! Feels a bit weird to do 'IC' mini-arcs in ITQ, but if people are okay with it I can see it being a cool addition from time to time - though you might want to telegraph it a bit more clearly when you're doing it. An alternative could be just keeping them here in your own discussion thread.

And save some work for the actual thread, mind!

Anyway, as the person behind the most Chast-questions, I have to say after the first follow-up I began feeling like there were increasingly 'appropriate' lead-ins and was pleasantly surprised when they kept getting responses. "Did it?" was me going "Yeah, this practically writes itself." I could probably have gone off-script or for a curve ball, but I quite wanted to see down what rabbit hole Chast's story would be going (did not disappoint).

A bit surprised so few others jumped in at the end there, actually. I was getting worried I was pushing my luck by keeping asking for responses!

As for OOC questions:

I think it's strongly implied, but is that Dendshi, Crag and Droop swingin' in the third-to-last image? Running away did them no favors, huh.

Does any of the new, twisted, faces in the final picture come with names attached? Or detached, I ain't picky.

And that's it! I don't want to be spoiled on too many mysteries yet, what with Butthead showing up in the main Quest thread. Needless to say I think you've successfully foreshadowed that some Serious Shit can go down in the GD-verse, and that there's more to scratch beneath the surface for Asher and crew.

>I don't want to be spoiled on too many mysteries yet, what with Butthead showing up in the main Quest thread.
Wait, what?! ...Shit, that was him "floating" through the ceiling of the room. Well, that means things could get very exciting if the rest of those who were with Butthead who seemed to be powers are about.

>You might want to telegraph it a bit more clearly when you're doing it. An alternative could be just keeping them here in your own discussion thread.
Good idea, and it might give this thread a bit more life. Maybe something like linking ITQ questions that prompt an interlude back to the thread, and then continuing here? I also want them to be more interactive than Chast's was, though probably not to the extent the Main Thread is. I'll probably be thinking about some kind of middle-ground where those curveballs you thought of would be encouraged.

Also thank you for so many Chast-questions! I probably would have been stubborn and not continued without those prompts, so it's very much appreciated.

>Is that Dendshi, Crag and Droop swingin' in the third-to-last image?
That's the implication, yes, though the Main thread does a bit more than imply it.

>Does any of the new, twisted, faces in the final picture come with names attached?
Nope. If people want to give them toiler names I'll probably just use those. Otherwise I'll just wait until the very last minute and throw something together like usual.

My turn to "Wait, what?!"

Man, I didn't connect that particular bit! Chast's segment is WAY more present (/future?) time than I thought it was. The whole age discussion with butthead threw me, I think. I thought this was something more ye olden timey!

Decided to try and do vignettes for the patreon (https://www.patreon.com/megido). I'll be putting a few in this thread as I feel they're relevant.

Also no update this week unfortunately, so hopefully this suffices.

Asher opened three bundles and dropped his small loaf of bread into one, his jerky into another, and the dried fruit he could already taste in the last. It was a kindness his first Asher had done for him, though he only realized it a later. He had kept it up once he got the job, even if it left him hungry a few nights. With his good hand he wrapped the bundles back up carefully.

His destination was the beds that ashers generations before him had crammed in some empty space near the flues, crawling through rocky tunnels and skipping across almost too hot metal grates on the shortest path there. It annoyed the hell out of him that there wasn’t a central place for every asher to sleep, but he knew how rare unused space was in their home. You did the best you could, and that meant he would be spending tonight hungry and crawling all over the place.

There were plenty of empty cots in the alcove once he arrived, with Marin was already sleeping on her personal hammock and Lunk was rubbing himself down with balm for his shift being the exceptions. Them and the new kid who was pretending to sleep in one of the bunks. He lifted one of the bundles and Lunk, in acknowledgement, lightly kicked the kid’s bunk to wake her up for her dinner.

“You know, in the right light your fur looks almost blue.” Ma’am says. “How about that? Blue. We don’t have any colors in this dorm, and it rolls off the tongue.”

“I’m Asher.” She answers again, not looking up from the carrot she’s peeling, slowly and carefully. The girl had only finished six in the quarter hour since she had started. Maybe emptying the kitchen so she and Asher could talk alone was a bad idea. Dinner would be late at this speed. She’d just have to work faster then, and try a different

“You don’t have to be. You can always change.” Ma’am tries for the last time.

Asher pauses, but only for a second.

“I’m Asher.”

“You got a name yet?” A small shrug answered him.

“Eh.” He copies her shrug. “Don’t worry about it, they come when they come. How high can you count, kid?”

“Six.” She mumbles through a stuffed mouth.

“You’re gonna learn how to count to at least a hundred down here. Timing’s important. They don’t wait for you to move before they stoke the fires, so ya gotta be outta the way by then. And always stick by another asher. If you get lost down here, we’ll be finding you in a year all crispy.”

“Okay.” He didn’t hear much fear in her voice. So, he took the glove off his bad hand revealing the cracked and melted skin. The kid froze in the middle of tearing off a hunk of bread and stared at it with her face twisted in revulsion. But she didn’t puke. Which meant they wouldn’t need to train it out of her.

“Every asher gets burned. But burns don’t kill you. Getting lost will. And when we find you after that this here,” Asher waved his hand for emphasis. “Is your whole body. So be careful. I ain’t lost a single asher in my time and don’t you dare make yourself the fuckin’ first.”

___________________

Asher, which Ma’am supposes will stick, stays in her corner with her bowl of soup already empty on the floor in front of her. She nibbles on her wrap and stares at the other toiler children eating and playing. Ma’am has been stealing glances at her while breaking up fights and stopping Mash from throwing her soup all over the walls.

“Go bother the new girl.” Ma’am whispers into Mash’s ear.

“And ya won’t stop me?” She asks, gnawing on a wooden spoon.

“Have at it.” Ma’am hopes she won’t regret this as a grin splits the little gremlins face and she rushes off.

___________________

Asher stood up, not bothering to dust off the ash he had sat in. The kid was still eating, but Marin had woken up and was already moving into his place to answer questions and show her how to get ready for her first shift. She’d learn more on the job tomorrow. Besides, he didn’t have all night. There were still two more kids who needed dinner.

___________________

Mash hadn’t managed to cause any bleeding to clean up or bruises to bandage, so Ma’am was satisfied. The children were sleeping now. Some in piles, others half hanging off their cots, and Ma’am couldn’t tell Asher apart from any of them while she was sleeping.

It was a start.

They seem like diggers and mining engineers/experts. I believe it was said/implied somewhere that they are recent(-ish?) immigrants and that fewer toilers die in the mines ever since they arrived.

Also, if the card reading was right it suggests the third character might be Chast as it seems to fit what we've been shown of him. Stickler?! Oh, man!

Escapees in the mine
Got the guards swinging from side to side
Side-side to side.
Their goal's a gruesome one:
Trying to get the Diamonds tonight-night-night
Diamonds tonight.

Heads up!
You sneak at church, turn around and look up.
A horned chick takes your buddy.
Oh, hey, it's you again.
Saw you back there using my Eyes, Eyes, Eyes
Using my Eyes.

'Cause, baby, tonight
The Lankies thinking they deserve rights again (rights again-ain)
'Cause, baby, tonight
The Mongers be hiring mercs through ill-gotten gains.
They now have guns, guns, guns and some bombs, bombs
These merchant Dons sure are tons of fun!
'Cause, baby, tonight
Our god is gonna turn nine blind eyes again! (Damn eyes again-ain)

Whether trash, ore, or scraps
Digging ain't safe for your kind, kind, kind
Safe for your kind.
Nice Toiler hand you have
Shame it's meant for the mine, mine, mine
Dealt to be mine.

Going up!
You know you are screwed as soon as you are a grown up.
Bethel time, don't be tardy.
As you are sitting there
Keepers teach, but you're still wondering "Why, why, why?"
"Why-why-why-I?"

'Cause, baby, tonight
The Silver-tongued aim for fortune and fame.
'Cause, baby, tonight
You gotta Steel yourself and endure the pain. (endure the pain-ain)
Light on, on your shining stone, stone
And hope you'll one day see the sun.
'Cause, baby, tonight
The sticklers just caught us fingerless and damned.

(Fellas, it's time. Ha, ha!)
-"Round 'em Diamonds, make 'em Diam-gone.
Get supplies. Free every Lanky."
-"Hired blades up and ready to go,
Mongers second? I don't think so!"
-"Don't take the pills and gain the Sight
Make those who wronged me see who's right."
-"Lost my friend, my hand, and blight!
I just want to survive the night."
Rotten all the way through.
Take their revenge, That's what they're gonna do.
People are psychos. baby, what else is new?
At least that bunny's got a nice tatoo. Hit it.

'Cause, baby, tonight
The dung is really going to hit the fan.
(Win with your wits, or lose by the sword)
Yeah, baby, tonight
Think your words carefully and slow. (It's on)
Take your revenge! (Woo) Oh-oh, oh-oh!
So fight, fight, discuss and write, write
Good End or Strife, Strife, just don't make it trite. (Woo)

'Cause, baby, tonight
Everybody is corrupt, abused or insane.
Yeah. baby, that's right
Choose wisely 'cause you can't try again. (there's no replay-ay)
All join, join, join in the fun, fun
in this here world where all things go wrong.
'Cause, baby, tonight
All bets are off, let silent gods be damned!
