A place for discussion of/reaction to Update Quest, since with only updates allowed in the thread nothing can really take place there.

Also a place for people to dump clipart for various characters to make things easier on those of us who want to update, but can't draw. Or other such shenanigans.

I had the same problem with the PS part of the note. Oddly enough, mine said "Choose blue" so there's obviously some form of hivemind going on.

a potential villain was introduced in one of the earlier updates. He seems to run the place.

I guess the goal is escape?

The quest is still at an early stage and the goals aren't of much importance yet. Right now it's all about exploration of the surroundings and interact with them.

Not quite the same as a quest totally open to anyone. Or you might mean some other open format of creative collaboration that I'm ignorant of. If that's the case I'll concede the point.

Regardless I find the dynamic here interesting, if not entirely unique. Looking forward to where it goes.

I was waiting to see if somebody else was going to go somewhere with this because asking for numerical posts was apparently already unacceptably authoritarian, let alone posting updates that establish any sort of theme, setting, or characterization!

I'll probably update it tomorrow since I sort of plan to binge update then.

Updates trying to undo the lamentable demise of the rabbit were the worst so far in that thread.

And then LOL NEW CHARACTER IN NEW SETTING HOPE YOU WEREN'T TRYING TO ESTABLISH ANY CONSISTENCY OR CONTINUITY WITH G.
>>
No. 22046 ID: bf1e7e

>>331845

The posts just arbitrarily murdering the rabid were equally retarded.0

There were maybe two people in the entire thread who took any steps toward developing any sort of consistency or continuity with G, and not one of them posted in this narrative diarrhea.

Switching to a new character is not necessarily a problem, in fact in a situation where a character is 'stuck' another protagonist might take actions that end up releasing the initial protagonist incidentally. Nowhere is there a rule that G should be the only protagonist.

You want to talk about people actively trying to hinder consistency or continuity? Look at every single post since the dynamite lit. Every. Single. One. Except, amusingly enough, for Shot's.

I wasn't complaining at all when nobody was updating.

Besides, I want this to work because I like one-sentence stories, but I have no illusions about the likelihood of that. I am fully prepared for the quest to die, and I would rather see that than see it get shit all over.

I regret making the "Dynamite Is Lit!" panel now. The original intent was to say "Let's use this right away, instead of hanging on to it. What should we use it on?" Then it got stupid. Then it got really stupid.
The awesomeface updates were basically me throwing up my hands at it. "Well, apparently G is a retarded asshole now, so whatever." I hope at least one person got a laugh at it, but it was basically the equivalent of me yelling "Fuck it".

It's hard to care about plot consistency when there's a flurry of updating and it all appears to be stupid. I won't apologize for awesomeface. But I will say things seem to have picked up a little and I hope they remain that way at least for awhile!
But also I regret lighting the dynamite.

Flipping the Table is pretty much the lamest thing you can possibly do.

>It's hard to care about plot consistency when there's a flurry of updating and it all appears to be stupid.

It isn't hard to care about plot consistency at all. That you would pull the awesomeface out of your ass like that doesn't exactly scream 'gave a shit about consistency to begin with.'

I didn't flip the table. My definition of 'Fuck it' must be just different from yours. I certainly didn't intend to kill the quest.

> It's hard to care about blah blah stuff
I can rephrase that:
> It's hard to be serious when everything seems very silly.
I thought some of the updates were dumb. But rather than fight them, I thought I'd just have fun with it. "You pushed a button marked Do Not Push so something bad happens. Here's a poor attempt at humor." This was pretty much my thought process at the time.

I do think it would be fun to explore more of the airship, meet antagonists, friends, that sortof thing, be serious quests. But there are going to be inconsistencies based simply on the fact that the quest is open to absolutely anyone. Any quest with rules like that is going to be very stupid and silly sometimes. The only thing to do at that point is to have fun. I thought that was the point of most quests.

Am I wrong?
>>
No. 22075 ID: f906a7

>>331874

It's possible to have fun and create a humorous quest without falling into lolrandom.

The problem is that, with bursts like yesterday's is impossible to progress the quest in a logic way.

So far almost any attempt to introduce puzzles have ended up in people ignoring them and just doing random crap.

Introducing characters seems to be pointless too, because LOL NOW HE'S DEAD

Inconsistencies and rogue posts are to be expected, but there's always a way to roll with them as long as we don't go "OH YEAH? WELL THEN I'LL DO SOMETHING EVEN MORE RETARDED".

And in other news: The two last posts are totally contradictory to each other, and Shot's one is sort of a retcon. What now?

Flipping. The. Table.

>I thought some of the updates were dumb. But rather than fight them, I thought I'd just have fun with it.

See here's the thing.

>See Dumb Posts
>Say 'Fuck it' and make more dumb posts
>Try to claim to care about consistency afterward

One of these things is not like the others. One of these things doesn't belong. One of these things is fucking bullshit and you know it.

>I do think it would be fun to explore more of the airship, meet antagonists, friends, that sortof thing,

So do it. Try to fold the stupidity into your updates and make something that isn't shit out of even the shitty updates. That's the entire goddamn POINT of a one-sentence story.

>But there are going to be inconsistencies based simply on the fact that the quest is open to absolutely anyone.

Yes, there are. But when there are inconsistencies and you just say WELL FUCK IT LETS JUST ALL BE GODDAMN RETARDS you're a part of the problem, and it is dishonest of you to pretend otherwise.

>Am I wrong?

About very nearly everything, yes. Mostly because you don't seem to understand the very simple concept that "if you can't beat 'em, join 'em" is a defeatist attitude and surrendering to retards makes you a retard as well.

I agree with you. On the one hand, when everything is crazy, it's impossible to add onto in any meaningful way. On the other hand, adding more pointless random things doesn't solve anything.
I suppose the only thing to do is wait until the silliness dies down, then try to point the quest in a direction that isn't totally silly.

I have doubts. I don't think a multiQuest is going to reach any meaningful resolution. But I support anyone who tries to make it work. It's more interesting when people try.

>>331878
I think you're just angry. You don't seem to understand the concept of "don't sweat the little things". I'm sure you have a very clear image of what it should be like, but I think you've chosen the wrong format.

You have an interactive story that can be updated by anyone on an imageboard where people are ultimately anonymous. Whenever I see you talk about this quest, you always seem disgusted and annoyed. I dunno! I hope you can make a quest that meets your standards.
>>
No. 22093 ID: bf1e7e

>>331891

Of course I was angry. People were being goddamn retards, and people who have no mental deficiencies and choose to be retards infuriate me.

I have frequently talked about this quest in ways that are not annoyed.

It just usually doesn't get dragged out as much when people are being positive because people don't feel some sort of bizarre need to defend their indefensibly retarded bullshit.

>"don't sweat the little things"

Because arbitrarily killing off a character and awesomefacing over it is 'little things,' and not childish disruptive bullshit, right?

And if you agree with >>331875 , you are implicitly agreeing that what you did was pure, irredeemable faggotry. When you recognize the problem and consciously decide to add to it, you are the worst sort of scum.

>But I support anyone who tries to make it work. It's more interesting when people try.

So you don't want it to be interesting, then?

I'm just trying to clarify your intentions.

>I dunno! I hope you can make a quest that meets your standards.

Fortunately, I have plenty of quests that are not updatequest because I knew going in that UQ was almost certainly going to fail. That doesn't mean that the people actively deciding to drag it down aren't people that disgust me.

Man.. Lot of rage in here.

On a bit of an unrelated note, I'm responsible for the the old mix up post. I did the one that eventually got deleted; where 'Z' was also an androgynous female that was pissed that her armor was missing... I kinda didn't pay close attention to the picture itself and read just the word 'cabinet' and assumed it was 'G' that stole the armor because, you know, what 'Z' had in his/her room was drawers.. >>;

I'm also responsible for the horrible MS Paint one where the picture move to the side to reveal a safe as well as making her a ginger (A choice I'm still glad I made. I was really close to making her a blond.)

Either way, I was curious to what you folks would think of this potential update. I'm a little.. apprehensive because my safe ultimately led to batshit insanity and because being one of the people that did the contradicting posts.

So, tell me what y'all think of it. It's a little different, as I'm trying to add a little bit more story to it. You'll notice the art is a different. I had much more talented younger brother draw it. If any one of you really like it, you can steal it, make changes to it. Whatever. Just... Don't make it into another exploding bunny.

Cut scene; Start

The MYSTERIOUS FIGURE WITH THE URBAN ACCENT sat quietly at the monitor. He's rather upset about the current lost. "Aw, hell naw! R's dead, S is... something else entirely, I's still dumb as hell and Thred's a fuckin' zombie! If this... Gawd damn. If something doesn't happen.. we'll be stuck on this damn airship forever.."

Of course, the MYSTERIOUS FIGURE WITH THE URBAN ACCENT can't do much of anything else so he switches the monitor back to "Metal Gear Solid 2" and plays the fuck out of it...

I don't like it.

But that's probably because I'm going to break my rules and un-kill R because that was the most goddamn retarded part of the last bullshit segment. Not only does it remove R, it invalidates the note from the very beginning of the quest by doing so!

That update is actually totally fine otherwise.

There is no longer any purpose to 'don't trust R.' Removing R before there is anything to trust or distrust from him invalidates the note.

And I'd say that killing off the rabbit for no fucking reason and killing off R just to flip the table are far worse than deleting that entire section of posts and rebooting from there would be. I still haven't done it because while being a far lesser degree of faggotry than what you idiots did, it would still be faggotry.

>you idiots
I'm not sure exactly why you made this quest open in the first place, expect possibly to "prove" a point that everyone who isn't you sucks based on huge personal selection bias.
>>
No. 22116 ID: bf1e7e

>>331915

Because while I didn't expect it to work, there was a marginal chance that it would and it took basically no effort to give it a shot.

Unfortunately, the fucking 'tards have been driving away people who were previously interested in seeing what the quest was capable of. I know of at least two to whom I have spoken who thought it was a great idea and have given up on the quest altogether and agreed that it should just be 'put down' at this point.

I also like that you're trying to pretend that it's a personal selection bias just because you made one of the top 5 most retarded updates. Arbitrarily killing off characters is fucking retarded and you know it.

The only reason that the R death was worse was that yours at least required some other faggot to cooperate.
>>

To be completely honest, I'm kind of avoiding UQ mostly because I don't want to get bitched out by somebody (who will probably be you) for not doing a good update. :/

I mean, not that I have anything against you, or anything, but, I mean, between this thread and IRC I'm gonna have to admit that I'm kind of cowed.
>>

I don't bitch about bad updates, the quest isn't worth the time that would take.

I just bitch about the criminally stupid ones.
>>

Because it blatantly is selection bias when you draw the conclusion "yup it failed what a surprise" based entirely on cherry-picking bad posts. You won't shut up about how it confirms your hypothesis that it can't work, WHAT A TRAGIC COMMENT ON QUEST'S POPULATION, despite the fact that your experiment is completely flawed.

Your incessant bitching (and the stupid bloody drama like this which I'm currently failing to not get caught up in) has put me off wanting to invest any effort in this quest far more than rabbit sex or death have.

Of course, you probably consider that a good outcome because "anyone can update" is now augmented with "and you're stupid if you do because I'm not getting my own way all the time".

>Arbitrarily killing off characters is fucking retarded and you know it.
I was waiting for that. Go look at the length of the fuse again and tell me getting it to blow up in S's face was the intent.

Or, hell, look at who grounded us back in the rooms-of-buttons settings after the whole rabbit sex part. Or who tried to tie "SUDDENLY NEW CHARACTER" into the existing setting. Yeah, clearly I was trying to derail the thing here.
>>
No. 22123 ID: bf1e7e

>>331919

>"yup it failed what a surprise" based entirely on cherry-picking bad posts.

It didn't fail, it is failing. There is a difference, as the nature of the quest means that it is theoretically always salvageable.

>Of course, you probably consider that a good outcome

Basically, yes. Toodles.

>Go look at the length of the fuse again and tell me getting it to blow up in S's face was the intent.

Instead of bothering to type it out, I'm going to point out that intent is impossible to know and that turning around and sticking an active explosive into another character's mouth is fucking retarded and you don't get to pull the 'I was doing it so that someone else could pull it out and have nothing bad happen!' card.

>Yeah, clearly I was trying to derail the thing here.

Reka made a few decent posts earlier in the quest too, then arbitrarily killed off R and awesomeface'd about it. Doing something right one time doesn't give you the excuse to be a fag other times. Every single post (except for pushing the button) after the dynamite was lit and before Z is a terrible stain on the quest. Yours included.

>You won't shut up about how it confirms your hypothesis that it can't work, WHAT A TRAGIC COMMENT ON QUEST'S POPULATION, despite the fact that your experiment is completely flawed.

I was saving this for last to address a few things.

1: That isn't my hypothesis
2: This isn't about making any sort of statement about /quest/ over how likely a quest like this is to work here
3: The experiment is not flawed, it just isn't about the conclusions that you think it's about.
>>
No. 22124 ID: d677cc

I do find myself wondering exactly what your hypothesis is, now, though. :vc
>>
No. 22125 ID: bf1e7e

>>331924

My hypothesis only concerned how long it would take for the quest to either get trolled into the ground or degenerate into introducing a character and then immediately having sex with it.

I actually radically overestimated the length of time it would take for that to happen =V
>>
No. 22126 ID: d677cc

>>331925
Ah.

Oh wait you actually already said that at some point I think and I just have shitty memory.

(And it turns out that the length of time is exactly equal to the length of time it took Gnoll to post. 8V)
>>

I know you really don't like Reka and all, but the way it reads there doesn't look to be any actual sex until Gnoll's update.

Although I don't know I can barely tell what the hell is going on in Reka's but it looks more like "tickling" than "sex." :V
>>
No. 22129 ID: bf1e7e

>>331928

It is true that Reka's post taken in a vacuum can be taken as tickling, and that was what I did.

Then there was the IRC discussion about ALRIGHT TIME TO FADE TO BLACK INSTEAD OF DRAWING THE SEX and the fade to black update.

hence: I counted that.

It's only one update separated from gnoll's post anyway =V

Also I don't really hate Reka, but he has made a couple of tremendously retarded posts and I'm not going to just pretend he didn't.
>>
No. 22130 ID: d677cc

(I seem to remember hearing from LionsPhil that he was going to follow up the fade to black with something that would indicate that nothing had actually happened as some sort of subversion of expectations, but I can't be certain and don't really want to get in a fight with someone over something this pedantic anyway.)

And okay maybe it just seems like you really don't like Reka Iunno.

I was, but Gnoll beat me to it with breasts.

But, hey, I posted the Intermission before starting the next frame precisely so that people could interject and throw my plans off, because that's the point. The worst thing Reka has done IMO was tha three-in-a-row update simply because it was a three-in-a-row uploaded with no gaps.
