I was gonna try and write up a long thing but it sounded stupid so I'll just put it bluntly.

Hey, all you authors who are voicing concerns lately that /quest/ is too slow: If you're not yourself suggesting, you are pretty much part of the problem.

Agreed. I suggest (without my name/trip) in everything I read.
>>
No. 26538 ID: bf1e7e

Yes this is pretty much exactly the case.
>>

True. I barely suggest.

I agree and am a hypocrite

Oh no. This is starting to remind me of a Play-by-Post forum I frequented before I came here. Ended up where everyone was writing huge reams of text that hardly anyone was actually reading.

Oh god it's me I'm the reason!

I'll suggest more I swear! D:

if you guys want i could drop my trip and look like 3 or 4 different dudes postin because of my dynamic IP '0'

or i could start a quest. not that it would help.

Ugh, I tell you what, every pbp forum seems to think 'literate' players means PARAGRAPHS FOR THE PARAGRAPH THRONE.

I don't suggest much but I also don't complain does that mean I'm off the hook <:3

That cat is off-center! Why?!

Also Test has told me horror stories of that play-by-post forum and it is the LAST thing we need.

Quantity has a quality all of its own.

Unfortunately some people think this applies to writing.

Hey me too! I am slower than the suggesters, I am all good.
>>
No. 26587 ID: 80a165

Well I only follow a ahndful of quests, all of which I read more than actually participate in. Then again, I never had the idea to complain about the pace.

>>336355
Well, then there's at least one that doesn't. I'm playing on one and a good part of DMs write walls of text only as introductory or establishing/exposition posts.
>>336363
But yeah, I can reinforce Test's rumors. Play-by-post forums are slow as fuck. More so when you compare them to live sessions, less so when to text quests, the likes of which can be found here.
I can tell from personal observation that it's slow regardless of rule system too: D&D, GURPS, WoD - it's the people that slow 'em down, not the crunch.

Ok, I'm just putting this here.

I don't actually read much stuff at all D: And suggest even less because, y'know. Sometimes, you just dont have anything to say. u.u;;

Besides, suggesting requires to know whats going on, and I already have my stuff to keep track of >.>;
>>
No. 26623 ID: dc2802

quite frankly sometimes i dont suggest because i feel like im going to screw up everything.

most of the times i dont read all suggestions, only the recent updates and the recent suggestions.

its nice to put things in perspective but it takes a lot of times, and the disc thread are not always helpful when trying to organize one's thought regarding the quest.

I mostly suggest in the quests of people I talk to on IRC, and my suggesting has dropped since I started running a thing (somewhat related).
Recent developments still make me wonder if I did something specific to run off so many of my other, non-quest-running suggesters seemingly overnight. Should revive my /dis/ thread to ask.

>make me wonder if I did something specific to run off so many...suggesters
I don't know if that's worse or better than wondering if I did something specific to attract so many despite my quest so far being terminally uninspired.

The one that started with a Flash animation, then quickly squandered that first impression on LOL DWARVEN LEVERS, massive update delays, and a sequence where the only sensible course of action was basically "==>". >>/quest/227544

It's also in a temporary art downgrade, and yet people stick with it. Which is worrying when I don't know what I'm getting right and will probably break that just as I think I'm fixing some of the wrong.

>>336459
I'm pretty sure it's worse.
As anyone who is on the IRC and has not ignored me out of annoyance yet knows, I am in a sort of slump regarding suggestions and I'm not entirely sure why.

Eivr's got 7 suggestions so far, and that's for a fairly straightforward decision where we don't have a ton of relevant information to discuss. That's not bad.

Straightforward decisions really help, as long as they're not too straightforward. The ideal, I'd say, is giving people situations where there's 3-4 options, each with benefits and disadvantages we can make educated guesses about, with the possibility of someone making up something out of left field.

Ballad's not doing as well, even though it's fun to read. (I thought the hand signal fuckup was great) It's just not as clear. This whole nonstandard thing where Sofiya can hear Aldo's thoughts sometimes and Aldo thinks about himself in third person... or something... is neat, but is kind of confusing. (it's sorta like where you've got two narrators and they argue, except that it's present tense and they're surprised by things, so not that) That probably leaves more than a few people too uncertain to know what's going on.

On top of that, I'm not really clear on what's up with that black and yellow construction stripe. It's a loading zone so there wouldn't be a big wall where you pull the trucks in, but it looks a lot like there is. <pic attached>

If I'm the only one who was confused, I'll shut up, but I think it makes us less able to devise a plan for how to get a car down there. We also don't know from which direction we can come, or whether we can crash into the other side of the building where there isn't a guard watching, or what.

...also, it looks like a brick wall, which means our folks might not be in fighting trim after crashing into it. They seem to think they'll be okay, so we can take their word for it, but it plants a seed of doubt. Maybe even a sapling.

That's the rub with confusion. Even if someone has enough information to make a decision, they'll think they could be missing something important and not suggest.

The construction stripe is supposed to be painted along the sides of the wall
soz for any confusion

Oh, I get it now.

Before, I had figured the spaces between the ramps were for more vehicles to pull in.

I'm just fresh out of ideas for getting in that place for Ballad. I threw the car plan just to throw it in for fun, then the skiff when it seemed like it was the only plan going through. Even though now we know we can't get the skiff to crash through the building, I had to try then simply because I wanted to mow some muthas over just in case a crazy-ass, improvised plan was going to take place (I also wish we didn't let Shitstreak go and tied him to the front of the skiff, to send a similar "message" the druglord was going to send killing Henry and his wife).

This shit is hard. Damn there isn't even a fire escape to use to our advantage, that building is secure as fuck both in realistic terms and genresavvy terms.

Yeah, I had severely underestimated how tall that vehicle was.

I should have figured only I would be confused.

Why would you say your quest is "terminally uninspired"? You've got entertainingly written characters that are fun to read and some general explore/puzzle things going on. Both of those are things that get people to suggest. It's not ridiculously open ended or anything. You also have a nude furry protagonist, and this is tgchan. Also, an Alceris Quest parody? I mean, that's gold.

>>336513
I literally only stopped reading because of the unicorn slaughtering. I don't think your quest is bad or stupid for doing it, it's just not something I want to look at, so I don't.

Death to the sparklehorse menace!

Because an awful lot of it is horrendously generic, and there's enough little references in there that it makes me stop and go "oh god, I'm in danger of writing the image version of Golem Quest".

Also I object! The furry protagonist has totally been wearing clothes at least most of the time.

No. 26748 ID: 383006

>>336546
It's an easy-to-understand, lighthearted quest with clear goals that seems to be focused on problem-solving and exploration. This makes the quest accessible, and thus, suggestions.

>Golem Quest
I have to assume you are either being hyperbolic or fishing for compliments at this point.

I mean, CBSF is a lot of people's favorite thing. References are fine. Your characters are all original and the writing is entertaining. What do you want from me?

N, the real issue is that your quest is sort of the opposite of the above. I really enjoyed the first bit, but even then there is lots of text, the situations are complex and the setting is very alien. This doesn't mean that your quest is bad, but it's a bar to entry. The newest chapter seemed to get even more confusing as to what exactly was going on. You did rein it back with a situation that was fairly straightforward and required direct action, which is good, but you have to be aware that these boards are always going to be a little schizophrenic and ADD. I don't think you're a bad author at all, and I really like your setting. Some types of stories will always have fewer readers, though.

I'm not really fishing for complements---I've had those. I know I'm doing something right because of that (and the suggestions). It's the what. But you've probably covered it.

Oh also testPattern i feel like I should clarify the Sofiya/Aldo mindreading thing. They can't do it, it's just that I write their narration arguing instead of dialogue sometimes because it's fun and I feel like the two-narrator thing is Ballad's gimmick. It's nothing major in the actual adventure, it's just how I tell the story. They can't read each others' minds and if they're apart, then don't assume either one knows what the other does.
